I don't know if my expectations were too high or that I thought I was going to be blown away walking into this place or maybe I came during the wrong time but the food was pretty good. The person that greeted us didn't have the same energy as the other guy that helped the people that came in after us. I wish he did, because the other guy went through the entire menu and explained everything thoroughly and was very engaging. I thought the brisket was okay, I really liked the Sweet Amy sauce. That was DA BOMB! The jalapeño corn bread was AMAZING. Mac and Cheese was delicious and overall the food was pretty good. The place is really clean and the bathrooms were fully stocked and clean as well so that was a plus! The décor in this place is cute. reminds me of the décor you can get at Hobby Lobby or HomeGoods. Dang, I really wish this place gave me that "I NEED TO GO BACK ASAP" feeling because it is close to my home. (inserting sad face). The food tastes great, but be wary of the cashier over charging you, particularly an older female. I've been there multiple times and the prices seem to fluctuate at the cashier's desire. Today, I went there and bought 1/2 pound of pork ribs, which is approximately $7.75, a cornbread, and a small fountain soda. The cashier told me my total was $23 and some change. I asked her about my total again and told her the meat consists of 1/2 pork ribs. She then gave me a new total of over $12, but didn't give me the soda cup after I paid for it. I waited, ask her again for the soda cup and she finally gave it to me. The owner was very responsive and responded to my concerns; assuring this was addressed with that particular employee and she apologized. Other employees are very friendly and welcoming. For sure I will return there for more great food. read more

Omg!! This place is amazing! I haven't found a bbq joint in Madison this amazing! The Mac and cheese is amazing, the baked beans with apple slices is to die for and the potatoes salad is the best I have ever had, and I thought mine was! This is a unique place in Madison for bbq because it's absolutely amazing! Just to die for! I ate there yesterday for lunch and dinner! Update: Knocked this to one star because of recent changes, and food packaging for delivery. First, the delivery came with the beans and potato salad pretty much mixed together. Neither was good this way and essentially paid to toss most of it. The other containers were fine, so this can't be blamed on the delivery service, this was a sloppy as hell packing issue. Second, the prices. They are outlandish. We have ordered from here, eaten here, since they opened. They have raised their prices like 80%. They no longer use the "good" bread, they pack store-bought hamburger buns which are not great. Third, the quantity of meat is less. I'm sure they can say something about it, but the fact is it's less. So, to sum up, outrageous prices, no care in putting food into containers, less product, and just all around cutting corners. I cannot at this time recommend this restaurant. It will take substantial changes before we ever consider going here again. It's too bad, they took a good thing and utterly destroyed it. read more

We had Beef Butter cater our work event. Oh my goodness. I didn't hear one complaint! It was so delicious. I've been to all the bbq restaurants within 50 miles of this area and definitely better than any other joint! The brisket was extremely tender! The baked beans were so good with the apples in them. I WISH they would sell the apples as a side too. We also had pulled pork, Mac n cheese, potato salad, cornbread and a few other items. I loved everything. I was also super impressed impressed at how they set up and how they had extra long spoons!!! Happened to run across this place while visiting for work from the south. I was cautious about BBQ in the north, but I figured Wisconsin = Cheese = Dairy = Cows = Brisket. I haven't had brisket this good outside of Texas & much better than several places in Texas! The guys couldn't have been more friendly. Also, don't pass up the Smoked Apple Pie Baked Beans... and no, I didn't leave out a comma. Wonderful job guys. I am disappointed that I likely won't be back for work anytime soon. read more

Friendly greeting, and a nice over view of how they do their q and a small sample to boot. When trying s new place, try their top picks- so 2 meat platter, brisket and John's Cheddar and Jalapeño brats. The brats were perfect, spicy and an awesome snap of the casing. The brisket was top notch, I'd like a little more smoke, but super pleased. Two sides, Mac and cheese and the apple baked beans. Both could be meals in of themselves. I loved the brisket in the beans and the flavors were perfect, Just a great lunch, not kidding may be back with the family for dinner. DELICIOUS!!! Beef butter has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants on the northside. They're doing bbq right! The bbq chicken and the Jalapeño sausage are fantastic. We always get extra brisket to make brisket breakfast tacos the next morning. Thinking about the homemade chips and Mac n cheese make my mouth water. My fingers are crossed that the house cured smoked corned beef they had for St. paddy's day is a special sometime soon....I can't wait another year, it was SOOO good!! They are always busy, but with the counter service everything moves quickly. My only complaint is that the younger servers behind the counter can be a little disorganized, confused on what's going on. They need to be trained a little better. I do love their food most of the time. I tried the cheese curds today and they were definitely over cooked . I used Grub Hub to place the order and it arrived in about half the time promised, excellent speed. My issue today was that I requested and paid for 2 slices of Jalapeño bread as there are 2 of us and they only had one bagged up so we had to share. The beans are especially good. For starters my husband and most of his family smoke meat so I am always hesitant to go elsewhere because it normally doesn't compare. But WOW! Amazing high quality food that is just delicious melt in your mouth. Probably the best brisket I have ever had. But the pulled pork was just as the name implies butter. Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious and I had to go back for more. I don't normally eat baked beans, like ever. But these are unique and so good. My wife and I went here to check em out. I ordered a slab of four ribs which were almost a pound, and my wife got the pulled pork. The ribs were delicious, very juicy and fell off the bone. The sauces were excellent as well ranging for normal to super spicy. The regular spicy is not very spicy at all, but still very good. Next time I will try their hottest to see how that is. The apple beans were unexpectedly fantastic. Their coleslaw was pretty mediocre. It is diced up instead of typical shredded, which made the texture just too weird to eat. It was creamy but could be a bit tangier. Overall the size of the sides are just too small, they only give you a few spoonfuls of each which is kind of insulting for the cost. My wife really liked her pulled pork. Oddly, there are no hot potato offerings. I have a hard time eating ribs without huge meaty steak fries or a baked potato. I did enjoy the meal a lot, and now have somewhere to go now that Blowin' Smoke has closed up. But the high cost will likely make it every other month instead of every other week. We saw a lot of people come in and look at the menu and walk right out when they saw the pricing. The staff were all incredibly helpful and attentive. Big thumbs up for that. read more

Just tried the restaurant, after having only done the trailer several other times. It was nice to have a seating area. The food was almost Austin delicious. The brisket superb, the ribs very good, and the pulled pork good, but not outstanding. The sides were very good. I usually stay away from northern bbq, but this was very good.
