First time in and by all appearances and smell had very high expectations. The counter person bragged about the "fall off the bone ribs". Unfortunately that meant overcooked and dry, and the same went for the brisket which was also literally fell apart. Maybe this degree of cooking ribs and brisket is something some people enjoy, but ribs should have some 'tooth' to them, and brisket should still have juice and still hold together. They were both so over cooked the only flavor came from dipping them in the sauce. Good smoked meat should be edible without any sauce at all. Both the hot sauces were good, although neither was particularly hot, but the sweet was almost bland. The mac & cheese had decent flavor, but was almost the consistency of paste - the Mac had no chew left to it at all. And the slaw was over powered by onion. It's a nice place and I'd like to see it succeed but the execution needs some work. read more

Probably the best coleslaw I've had in a long time. I ordered beef ribs, potato salad and coleslaw. The service was fast and friendly and the environment was clean and welcoming. We spent about 40 minutes there, tried all 3 sauces (they have a mild medium and spicy sauce although the spicy isn't spicy at all). Will be returning, want to keep more local places open in the area. There's been some turnover in that building... hope this place sticks. Great addition to the neighborhood! read more

I am a pilot so I travel all over the country. I love to try different BBQ wherever I go. Who knew some of the best BBQ I've ever had is right here in Madison. The quality of the food was good. For $33.00 for two people, the portions were very disappointing....4 ribs for a rib dinner and 4 small pieces of brisket for a brisket dinner. Hopefully, this will change when they are on full operations again. read more

Now about my first and only visit we walked in 2 days after Thanksgiving now when I say it was empty it was empty the 4 workers where standing staring at us like we were the first humans they have seen all day we did not care about the prices we just wanted to try a lot my brother got a 1 meat plate when I saw the serving size I had to get a 2 meat plate the workers were nice and it was quick but to quick they went in back pulled my ribs out of some old tinfoil wrap in a heater wow appetising when I sat down my ribs were bone dry i said to myself these mfks just gave me jerky ribs not worth 2 bucks the beans were cool not amazing i liked the apple chunks the mac was not as good as i thought it would be wish i got those chips the brisket was good melty butter deliciousness thank you well also I tried some jalapeno sausage killer I could die with those those made up for the forgetable ribs but that's not all me my brother my mom and little brother 2 one meat plate a 2 meat and a 3 meat 67 bucks over 70 after tax I fell out of my seat not only were my ribs fucked but now my wallet to now I had to complain about those ribs the looks of their faces was yup knew they were bad the next ribs i got were amazing it fell of the bone when I picked it up hands down the best ribs of my life worth the money no are they good yup thanks for fixing my order guys but for how much you get for what you pay I will not be comming back hey guys please just please your food Is amazing if you lowered the price or at leased gave more food you would see so much more business thanks for the great meal but my wallet is still crying read more

Disclaimer: I am sort of a regular. I usually order just the meats to go, mostly the BBQ ribs and brisket. Well, Uber Eats send me a $30 coupon, so I ordered. I forgot to specify which sauce I wanted, so I didn't receive my usual spicy sauce. I'm not sure if I just missed that option when ordering online. I understand the comments about brisket being dry, and that has to do with how it is cut. I've seen the server cut the brisket horizontally before cutting it into slices, and I mostly always forget to tell them I like the fattier part better. One server asked me if I liked it leaner or fattier. If I get the brisket part with little to no fat, it can tend to be on the dry side if you eat it without sauce, but it is still good. I just prefer the other. I love the jalapeno smoked cheese sausage. Super amazing. I save it for a treat. The ribs are fall off the bone tender. Today I had the chicken wings. I've passed them up every time because wings are wings, right? Ummm at the risk of making these too popular, GET THE WINGS. They are unlike any other wing I have ever had, and these will become my new favorite. Try them plain, with no dipping sauce (mine came with Blue Cheese). Eat well and buy local. Cheers! read more

Excellent food. Lots of choices of meat and sides. Everything was delicious. Only a couple negatives: kettle chips were super salty, they just need to put on less. They use plastic disposal silverware and sauce cups. It would be nice if they provided environmentally friendly products. read more

Madison barbecue has a new beef barbecue king. The brisket and beef ribs have no peer in this area and are some of the best I've had outside of Central Texas. The pork ribs are also fantastic, though I'll have to have a taste off with what I consider to be the other good barbecue joint in town. The apple in the beans were also a new thing for me. Really great combo. Don't forget to try the draft Point Root Beer. Nice open and big seating space. Watched the football games on one of the three large TVs. I had Beef Butter cater an outdoor work picnic for 100. They arrived on time, offered many great suggestions but most importantly the food was awesome. We offered brisket, pork and barbecue chicken. The potato salad was the best, the Mac and cheese platter was licked clean and the corn bread was outstanding! I would recommend Beef Butter for great barbecue and great service! read more

Coming from Texas, I have very high standards when it comes to BBQ. I ordered the 3 meat plate (moist brisket, pulled pork and ribs) with apple pie baked beans and white cheddar mac and cheese with a short rib on the side. To me, this is a new brick and mortar with a lot of potential Let's start with the pros list. 1. The brisket is as advertised. Moist with a nice bark. I would say needs a bit more salt but overall very good. 2. Both the white cheddar mac and cheese and apple pie baked beans were delicious. The beans is a tad on the sweet side for me but the mac and cheese was bang on! 3. Friendly staff. The staffs there were nice and attentive but not overbearing. They were happy to explain the choices and offer their recommendations. Cons. 1. The biggest one to me would be the short rib. I was very excited when I ordered it because they are soooooo good when done right. The rib I got was a dried out hunk of meat that ran for about $20. It has the ring and the bark of a well smoked beef rib but it didn't have the tenderness or the flavor. It could be due to the fact it was the last one of the bunch when I got to it but it was sooo dry. It was like eating jerky on a bone. 2. Overcooked meat - both the pulled pork and the rib was overcooked. The pulled pork was basically a pork mush. The individual muscle fibers on the pulled pork are indistinguishable from each other and has no texture. The pork rib suffered the same fate as the beef rib. It was no longer fall off the bone tender but was just a hard piece of protein. 3. Check out process. Not sure if it's in response to the other reviews bashing on the pieces, but the check out staff pointed out that I don't need to tip. That was just very awkwardly done and there is already a sign there stating that. Also, the machine is prone to messing up and not very intuitive to use. read more

I came here with high hopes. Walked out feeling like shit. The pulled pork tasted like seaweed. It was wet, had no flavor, didnt even taste edible. The rib tips were soggy also. They fell off the bone (and not in a good way) it was like I was eating mashed potatoes. It was soft, and it didn't have any type of flavor. The "hot sauce" was not hot. It had nothing to it. I don't get why they call it hot. Taco Bell has better sauce. And that's just sad. The Mac and cheese was about the only thing that had some south in it. The chips, were soggy and greasy. The fries were seasoned well and we're actually cooked. I would not call this place a barbecue. There have been better bbq joints in the Madison area in the past, and this place doesn't even come close. I would say the food from thus place comes from the trash. My highschool class could make better food than this. I don't understand how people actually come here and enjoy it. Wouldn't recommend. read more

This is hands down the BEST bbq beef brisket in the Midwest. It is too delicious for words. It is also the ONLY beef brisket that I never put barbeque sauce on, because that would (IMO) destroy the absolute perfection taste of this brisket. I have never found anything in the mid-south that remotely compares to this Midwest BBQ house. Highly recommend. It is probably the best brisket you will ever eat in your lifetime. read more

Spring is in the air and Beef Butter BBQ is back smoking delicious BBQ. Went back to try it again as Beef Butter opened up shop in front of Woodman's Sun Prairie this past weekend. They continue to offer samples before you buy. The brisket was even better than I remembered. YUM! I also tried the smoked chicken and that was great. I had to get the brisket and also picked up some baby back ribs. If you love ribs, you have to try these. Melt in your mouth smoked deliciousness! I'll be back this weekend for a smoked chicken meal. The food is great and the staff are wonderful, but they need to get their act together if they intend to stay open during the Covid-19 crisis. Their website and a sign in their window advertise "curbside service" but that's not true--you have to go inside to pick up your food. Inside the restaurant, there's a barrier to keep people further back from the employees but nothing to control the movement of customers; I had to walk through a bunch of people mingling directly in front of the door as I entered. There were many walk-in customers with no separate area for those like me who wanted to quickly pick up a prepaid order. Because the seating area was closed and the employee barrier took up space, the area for customers was small and crowded. The restaurant had lost my order so I had to stand in this crowded area for 5+ minutes while they prepared my food. For over 3 weeks I've stayed home as requested by the mayor, being extremely careful and selective about the few stores I've entered. I placed an order with Beef Butter BBQ with the expectation that it would be no-contact curbside service. Standing close to others in the unmanaged crowd was so distasteful that I won't go back until all Covid-19 cautions have been lifted. read more
