My wife and I have been going to this place for years, and we have seen some changes. Price being one of the biggest changes. When we started going there we could get out for around 30 to 35 dollars for the two of us. Not now. It's that much for each of us. I realize prices have gone up but for a place this size it seems high. Price aside the steak, potato, onion, salad and service are as good as they get. I love how the system works at this place. If you have to wait to get in you leave your name and type of car you are driving and return to your car. It's possible to get a drink to enjoy while you wait in your car. One of the first times we visited there was a young blonde girl waitress's that would stick her head out the door and yell your name. I could not believe anyone her size could yell that loud. It was nothing like I had ever seen or heard before. The blonde is gone but the name calling still happens. Once they call your name you go in and they will seat you. They ask what you would like to drink and your drink arrives very quickly. The chef comes to your table with a slab of rib-eye steak. He shows it you and ask what size steak you would like starting at around 8 ounces, more if you like, and how do you want it cooked. Once you have all of this out of the way you may visit the salad bar. The salad bar is small but everything is super fresh. you may return to the bar if you wish but I never do. I save room for my steak . The steak is very good and I have always gotten it the way I like it cooked. The salad bar has real bacon on it which you do not find any where else that I know of. The potatoes are always hot and the optional baked onion is very good as well. You can do as we do when we eat there, my wife orders an onion as she gives it to me. I love baked onions. They always have a new stick of butter on your table as well as salt, pepper, and sour cream. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is the price. Our bill came to more that 60 dollars before the tip. I new the price before we got there so it was not a surprise. All I'm saying is there is no menu to alert you to how much your bill can be. So if you get an 8 oz. steak with a tea your bill will be between 25 and 30 dollars each. Have a couple of beers and I'm sure you will have a nice bill. Is it worth it? Only you can decide. In and out in about 45 minutes. I love the place but I can't afford to eat there that often, but I wish I could. I know the price of beef is high but for 60 dollars I can get more beef to cook at home. All and all we love the place, but it's getting pricey to eat there. Once a year for us is about all we can stand. We ate there for our 46th wedding anniversary. Maybe next year maybe not. read more

I don't really know what the "Inn" part of the Beefmastor Inn is, but they certainly have the "beef" part nailed down. If you're the sort of person who agrees with the phrase 'do one thing and do it well,' the Beefmastor is your kind of place. They do ribeye steaks; period. Okay, that's a bit of a lie -- they also serve baked potatoes. And beer. And there's a salad bar over in the corner that you can munch on while your steak is cooking. But really it's all about the steak. There's no menu at the Beefmastor, because menus are for wusses. Instead, they just bring an entire ribeye primal cut over to your table on a massive wood cutting board, and let you indicate how much of a man or woman you really are. (Man-and/or-womanliness starts at 8 oz and goes up from there; at some point I suppose it would stop being "steak" and just becomes "roast beef" but they don't seem like the kind of people who are going to hold you back.) There are also no reservations, at least that I've ever seen. Instead you just show up, open up a tab, buy a couple of bottles of beer, and stand around in the parking lot until your name is called. The only thing that's not completely, aggressively and ridiculously awesome about the Beefmastor is that there's no non-smoking section. Depending on the night and how crowded it is and who you're sitting next to this can sometimes be a non-issue, but one time I visited, the air started to get pretty thick, to the point where it detracted from the meat. And given that "meat" is what the Beefmastor is all about, and how focused everything else is around that one thing, it seems like a fairly glaring omission. read more

There is simply no other place in the world like Beefmastor and that's why it gets 5 stars. The place has no menu. The waiter brings out a hunk of raw meat and you get to decide how much of said raw meat you'd like (cooked obviously). While they go ahead and cook your meat (rib eye steak) you go to the salad bar which is pretty small and has the basics but you should get some ruffage in before you eat your body weight in meat and potatoes. The meat then comes out with a huge slab of toast and baked potato. They leave sour cream and butter in little packs on the table and cheese and bacon bits are part of the salad bar so you can go get those toppings if you choose. The meat itself is out of this world. I'm pretty sure they smear butter all over it and that's the seasoning. The grill is right when you walk in the restaurant and you can go over and watch your meat being cooked if you so desired. The place itself is pretty small and crowded. There's also usually a long wait but the thing to do is BYOB and tailgate in the parking lot. This isn't just dinner, it's an event! read more

So so so good!! You start with the B.Y.O.B. Tailgating to kick off the fun atmosphere! This steak is just as comparable to other fine establishments, yet the Beefmaster has its own homegrown kitchen table feel to it! The meat's not great. The buffet salad bar is more funny than food. But I give this place a total 5 stars for business plan. It will live forever in Wilson, NC. Patrons don't care that "Mastor" is not in the dictionary, Beef or otherwise. Based on the one time I ate there, there are approximately 20 seats inside the restaurant. They can probably turn those tables maybe three times. We're looking at maybe 10K per week? Consistently, week after week. Low overhead. Don't get me wrong, the one time I ate there, the food was okay. The "theme" is reminiscent of English steak houses where the side of raw beef is presented at the table and the patron chooses the cut. And that concludes the "quality" quotient. The brilliance of this restaurant isn't in the food; it's the longevity, the legend, it's iconic nature. In an industry as volatile and vulnerable as the restaurant industry, we should all be lining up at BeefMastors with our notebooks. And have a half decent rib-eye while we're there. read more

Ate here this past weekend to celebrate my 50th birthday and it would be difficult to find a better cut of beef anywhere. Medium rare is the only way to go and the steak melts in your mouth! We were so thrilled to get in without a wait. The chef and server were so accommodating. The salad bar was very fresh and had all the accoutrements including peanuts, raisins and yummy bacon.
