Love love love this hidden gem in Wilson! The Ribeye's are always perfection plus there is no fresher salad bar in the entire town! The kitchen staff only puts out about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of any salad bar ingredient at a time, so it is always fresh and delicious! With prices starting at $25 a person, it is not the cheapest steak in town; however, it is the best & worth the added cost! read more

I had the good fortune to eat here in 2002. I was just telling the story and decided to google it. Here is how I remember it from back then. We arrived at a small business that looked like it started out as a house. We were offered a 1 choice meal, carved tableside by the owner. The whole experience was priceless and It's a fond memory and a great story. If you're in that neck of the woods check it out. Amazing food, even better experience. My friends and I had been hearing about this place for years and finally took a road trip to visit. It's a small place, so you can tailgate in the parking lot while you wait for your table (which is honestly half the fun of going). Once you get inside the only choice you have to make is how big of a ribeye you want. You'll want to go big, because the steak is absolutely superb, crusty on the outside but perfectly cooked within. I recommend medium rare for ribeye to get all that extra fat rendered nicely but still keep it nice and moist inside. While they are fixing your steak, do hit up the salad bar. You really can't go wrong with any of the toppings or dressings (my table loved the French, Ranch and Thousand Island). There's no desert at Beefmastor, but feel free to bring your own along to top off your meal. I promise a meal here is a night you won't forget, run don't walk there as fast as you can. read more

My husband and I were looking for dinner on our anniversary in the midst of a long road trip. We read other reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The building is small and unassuming. It was a Monday night and the parking lot wasn't full but deciding to embrace the adventure of the unknown, we ventured in. As other reviewers stated, the dining room is small and modest. Once we chose a table, the chef stopped at our table and asked for our steak size. From there we were directed to the salad bar, which as everyone stated offers a surprising variety of garnishes. In fairly short order, our perfectly prepared steaks were delivered to our table. Steak, baked potato, bread - that's all. We opted for the baked onion which was delicious. It was a substantial portion and everything was tasty. The service was polite and responsive. The atmosphere is no frills and casual. The cost for an 8oz. steak meal was $28 which we considered reasonable and comparable to similar meals we have had at other restaurants. Overall, we had a wonderful dinner and if we're in the area, we'd visit again. read more

The steaks at Beefmastor are excellent...the best I've ever had, on par with the white table cloth steak house I visited in San Antonio which is nationally ranked. It is like eating at your poor Grandmother's place in Flint, MI in her double wide trailer. The decor is non-existent and it is meant to be that way. If the food lived up to the hype I would be all in for five stars but it is decent food, the steak which they will cut to your taste is a fair cut of meat (not great, but probably a select cut, not what you would see at Morton's, Ruth's Chris or Shula's but decent). The salad is basic iceberg lettuce with various fixin's, it is about the same if not a little behind the Ponderosa Steakhouse (if they are still in business), no I take that back the Ponderosa had a pretty darn good salad bar and this was not. The bread is decent, but they do not have real butter. The beer is cold, limited selection. The price does not match the meal. You are paying for the experience. It is good for a one time visit so you can tell your friends. My wife and I went twice, the first time we were starving and it was our first night in Wilson so we thought a little more highly of the experience, but on a second visit and not starving and just wanting a good steak, it was less enchanting. Long wait times and the most entertaining thing is the alcoholics hanging out in the parking lot using the bathroom right out in front of everyone. Best steak around! I have to travel the world in my business and always compare steaks to Beefmaster. Maybe it just fits my taste but its the best steak out there even among the high end places. People in on business from all over the US come there to eat and talk about it positively and always come back. I've eaten at high priced places like Ruth's Chris and the steak was not as good in my opinion. If you want a menu, stick your head in the door and ask. They serve RibEye steaks; that's it for meat and they cook it right in front of you. My steak is always just right and the salad bar is tiny but super fresh and great tasting! The building is very very small; but that's half the fun. Most people sit outside and mingle, have a few drinks, enjoy conversations, tailgate, etc. Be prepared to wait. If there was no wait, I'd be worried right? If you want quick, try the local McDonald's. read more

This is a local icon that used to have the best steak in town - hands down. They survive today due to their past reputation. The quality of the steak has been "okay" at best. The salad bar still lives up to its previous quality. But along with the steak, the previously low-key chef/owner and the cheerful, helpful waiters are gone. We eat here at least once a month (sometimes more) and it's my favorite place to get a good ribeye. My husband and I travel a lot and regularly try out upper-end steakhouses. I like a good steak and don't mind paying a premium for good meat. I quit ordering ribeyes anywhere but here because I am consistently disappointed with other steaks. Now, you can't get a filet or chicken here, but it will be the best darn ribeye you've ever had. It's nothing fancy, so don't expect a romantic meal or a string quartet. You are here for the ribeye. There may be a wait, but it's cool if you "tailgate" in the parking lot. Sometimes people bring for hole boards in the summer. Just don't get too rowdy. It's a small place, maybe 10-12 tables adorned with cute red & white checker boarded cloth tablecloths and a candle on each table. THERE IS NO MENU. You are here for the ribeye...which they bring to the table for your inspection and cut in front of you to your liking. The grill is IN the restaurant so you can watch your steak cook (if you're into that sort of thing). The salad bar is a giant spinning bowl kept on ice, but the produce is fresh and it's kept well stocked. They have have real bacon and homemade ranch dressing. Your meal comes with a baked potato and a piece of bread and a baked onion is optional. If you love good a good ribeye and are in the area, you need to try Beefmastor if you haven't already. read more

Way over rated. It is crazy to spend $25 bucks a person for only a 8oz steak. Would be more for a bigger steak. Got there at 4:30 when the doors opened to catch the first wave. We didn't leave until 7:30. No reason for a 3 hr meal. He made us wait the longest out of all the tables cause he didn't like the sweatshirt someone was wearing at our table and told us that. And we drove from raleigh to eat there and it was a waste of time. Will never go back and never recommend to anyone. Wish I could give 0 stars. read more

Wonderful steak! This place is simple in its menu and decor. The only steak served is a ribeye which is cut from the whole loin. They start at 8oz. and go up. Then you get a perfectly baked potatoe with bread and a baked onion if desired. There is a small salad bar with a fair amount of selections. It is always fresh salad with no white or yellow leaves. There is a small wine list and beer. They have mixed drinks also but I've yet to order one. You will not find dessert here which is the only reason I did not give it five stars. The staff are friendly but busy, there are usually only 3 or 4 guys. There are only 10 tables so when the doors open the place packs up quickly. We generally arrive 15 mins. ahead of opening so we are not waiting for an hour. Though it would be worth the wait, just bring beer and chill in the parking lot. Oh, there is no menu that states the price of the steak per oz. My husband and I each ordered the 8oz. tonight and the bill came to $61.32, this includes steak and accompanyments, the salad bar and tea. Others may think it's overpriced but we feel it's pretty fair. I think the last time we ate atTexas the steak was about $22 each, overcooked and the wait staff were just too untrained for me. I'll pay a little more for an accomplished wait staff. More lighting would be nice and bigger bathrooms but all in all its a good simple place with wonderful ribeyes. read more

I would like to start by saying that we had a great time at Beefmastor, it's an experience for sure! That said, the ridiculous 3 hrs wait for a table, the trailer trash atmosphere, and the 'ok' steak were definitely not worth over $100. My husband had 1 beer and I had a glass of wine..which the waiter managed to spill about a third of it when he placed it on the table lol..part of the Beefmastor experience! It doesn't get any better than this! Great food, great fun and great service! Everything on the salad bar is fresh, cut up, cooked and grated right in the restaurant. The steaks can be cut with a fork and are cooked perfect every single time! They are consistently delicious and taste the same every single time, a true testament to the quality meat they buy under patent year end and year out. The owner is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and the atmosphere is a fantastic blend of people dining in jeans to people wearing sequins and suits. The parking lot experience is part of the fun so don't get upset when you have to wait, grab a drink, pull out some fold out chairs and relax with your crew.
