We went to Beefy King a few years ago and it was really good. Only complaint at the time was that the buns were soaking wet by the time we got home. So, today we went with a game plan. We decided to eat in. We ordered a ham sandwich, a few beef sandwich platters, and a lemonade. I will say the lemonade was really good, sweet, not tart. Perfect. Our food on the other hand... As soon as we got our food we sat down, the sandwiches, which were all made to order, were ice cold. The buns were not toasted or grilled, and there wasn't much difference in the amount of beef they give you from the regular size to the extra. The buns were also already soaking wet. Like a number of other Yelp reviewers, I've driven past the classic Beefy King plenty of times but never stopped. Until this time. Like stepping out of a time machine from a block away, Beefy King welcomes you with a classic mom and pop diner look and feel. The food prep and set up area looked modest but seemed very efficient. My Junior Platter containing a roast beef sandwich, cole slaw, large Beefy spuds and kosher dill pickle arrived in a short time. The roast beef was sliced fresh and was tasty and juicy. The spuds were crispy and firm, the cole slaw hit the "classic" button, and the dill pickle was crunchy and "dill-y" as expected. I went heavy on the sandwich with a mixture of barbecue and horsie sauce, just because I really like sauce! I love this place. The tots, the sauces, and the sandwiches are great. However they usually mess up my takeout order. Today I ordered a turkey pastrami and when I got home and started to eat, they gave me a beef sandwich instead which is disappointing when I was craving the item I ordered. Last time they forgot a sandwich from my order. The time before that they gave me the wrong side item. They work really quickly but in that rush they seem to not get the correct items. I'm not exactly sure what the 5 star reviewers are eating, because I was not very impressed with the food. Maybe the hype is the fact that it's an 'ol school diner type of establishment. The onion rings were very greasy. I bit into one, expecting a soft fat ring of deliciousness, and got a very skinny onion "skin." No onion, all breading. I was advised that their sandwiches were served hot. Although there was a good amount of meat, it was lukewarm on the outside, and cold under the mountain of meat. There wasn't any flavor to the beef, sadly. It came with cheese and onion. I felt like they were boiled onions, so no flavor either. We were recommended to beefy king by the late great Adam, the woo of YouTube fame he did a Vlog about it and said how great it was. So we decided to check it out and he was right we love the place. The service was good even though it was crowded it went pretty fast. The sandwiches were darn tasty. I had the beefy king and my wife had a turkey sandwich. We really enjoyed it. The soda insides were good too. I highly recommend it if you're in the Orlando area even if you're not it's worth the trip. read more

This place seems to be a staple in Orlando...everyone seems to rave about it. Until this year I have not been. I ordered and sandwich and fries and ate in at the restaurant. The restaurant is no-frills for sure. It reminds me of an old-school sub shop. Wood gain laminate tables and all. The sandwich and fries were nothing special if you ask me. They were fine and I enjoyed them - but truthfully this place is over-hyped. The service was friendly - I believe the owner was there and seemed to be attending patrons there (including us) to ask if we needed anything. Didn't realize that they close at 5:30 most days, so had to change the time frame when to visit. We arrived around 3pm I think planning to sit inside and there was a sign on the door that the dining room was closed and had to use the drive thru. The price of a JR beef is only $4.50 which is a great price, you can also get meal combos with spuds (tater tots) and a soda. I wish I had thought to ask for rare beef because it was too overcooked for me and some pickles but I think that would have charged extra. Because we had to eat in the car, we ate it within a couple of mins of ordering and I just felt like my bun was soggy. I don't think I would go out of my way to try again but it is a local shop and the guy who took our order was very nice. So support local and maybe it will be just your kind of meat! Only problem is I don't see a huge difference btw the jr vs XL. With it being an Orlando legend, I'd presumed Beefy King's reputation to be more a function of nostalgia than of the quality of its food, so I wasn't in a rush to try it after moving to Orlando. When I finally did, though, I was very pleasantly surprised. The beef is deliciously seasoned and very tender (surprising in itself, since it's well-done and seemingly low in fat), and the pillowy bun and tangy slaw compliment it nicely. This place was a blast from the past but in a good way and the name of the place doesn't lie. Finally we have made the trip to Beefy King known for their steamed roast beef sandwiches. The wait was definitely worth it. We ordered the original roast beef sandwich, the Reuben and some tater tots. All of them We're delicious and fresh. The horseradish and the sweet heat horseradish went so well with the roast beef sandwich. This is a must if you're in the milk district area or traveling in Orlando. I have been going to Beefy King since I was born. Our families go back. Let me put it this way, I'm about 95% vegetarian. Mom's spaghetti and Beefy King are the exceptions. When my little sister was born she was named for the older sister of the founders... i happened to have already been sharing the same name as the younger sister. Yep, my little sister was named after Beefy King. That's dedication. That's how great that place is! My tip, whatever size sandwich you order, I always go for the classic beef (add cheese), have them put it on a bun for the next size up ... you're gonna get a lot of meat and the extra space helps. Also, Horsey sauce! It's a must, for both the sandwich and the spuds. Just grab a bottle and take it to the table with you. They do offer little cups if you're getting it to go, and you can get it through the drive thru, as well. I'm 40 now, and I live out of state, but every time I'm home I stop by. Without fail. Is this really my first Beefy King review?! HOW? How is that possible? Well friends, do not take my lack of reporting as any indication of how special this place is. Not that they need my endorsement, Beefy King is an Orlando staple. Legendary roast beef sandwiches (and more!) and the crispiest spuds (tater tots) paired with familiar faces who welcome you back every time...that is Beefy King. I worked downtown for 7 years and beefy king was halfway between my office and home, THAT was dangerous. The freshly sliced, juicy roast beef is paired perfectly with cheese and I add their horseradish for the perfect lunch. The portions are great whether you go for jr regular or XL you will have a good meal. If you're extra hungry you can get a platter, but the meal deal is just right for myself. The dining room is dated, but in a good way! It feels familiar and homey. The service can't be beat. Even if there is a line it will move quickly! The teamwork happening here is probably what Chick-fil-A modeled their service after. Tiny parking lot but if you time it right you can find a spot! I love that they haven't removed the 70's cafeteria glass and the displays of old uniform, etc. We happened to go for lunch between rushes so we were able to get a table, but it did not take long to fill up. My little had hot ham kids meal, came with plenty of tots & a extra small soda (juice & milk options as well). My teen & I had platters, one beef & one pastrami. Platter meals come with sandwich, tater tots, scoop of slaw & a deli pickle. Everything was reasonably price for today's economy (2023). Flavor sandwiches had good flavor, should've sprung for the extra meat. Sandwiches had similar flavor to Arby's, but the quality & freshness was 10x better. I'm sitting in the Beefy King parking lot typing out this review because I just couldn't wait to share the greatness of this place. It's like Arby's but with (1) fresh food and (2) employees who truly care. It also reminded me of In-N-Out burger in that you got a real sense of how much love this family has put into their business. The employees were prompt, courteous and polite. The interior was vintage-looking but sparkling clean. I ordered the regular roast beef combo platter which ran around $12. It included a sandwich, tater tots and cole slaw. This was more than enough for a hearty lunch. I was expecting cold deli style roast beef but this turned out to be piping hot, lean and tender. The cheese melted onto the meat perfectly. I cannot believe I've only now learned of this place after spending years in the Orlando area. My only wish is that they'd stay open late as I think they would make a killing. However I understand not wanting to deal with all the drunk UCF kids who would come with that territory. This is a very clean and family friendly restaurant. The sandwich was super tasty. The meat was fresh and pretty awesome. I liked the coleslaw on it as well. It kind of broke up the meat and bread typical combo. I did add a little horse radish. It's Beefy King and that means fresh sliced roast beef from a custom design mechanical slicer and a foot controlled steam releasing device that maximizes the tenderness and juiciness of the sandwich before it's wrapped and sent your way. It's fresh, fast, customizable, hot, juicy, and ready for you to top with any of their flavorful sauces. It's not a chain restaurant it's not open late but when you come in the staff is ready to serve and help you pick the right sandwich. This family has maximized the revenue from this old location without much modernization, it still feels like the 1960's still maintained and doing none stop business for lunch.
