Swain and Boschert's goal wasn't just to open a place for recreational pinball gameplay, but also competitive pinball gameplay. The name of the arcade is a reference to "entering the Sanctum", a feature on "The Shadow": a pinball machine adaptation of the 1994 film of the same name. The Sanctum is open every Monday night from 7PM to Midnight. It frequently hosts local leagues like the Connecticut, Rhode Island Pinball League (or "CRAP") who train to compete in regional and divisional pinball tournaments. However, customers don't need to be competitive players to gain entry. The Sanctum is open to all players (whether competitive or recreational) regardless of their age or gender. A $20 donation grants guests unlimited freeplay for the entire evening. Although food and beverages aren't served, guests may bring their own. I recently visited The Sanctum during one of their Monday night open houses. From the exterior of the old factory building, it's not obvious at all that there's a pinball arcade inside. After walking up the stairwell, and down a long winding hallway, I finally made my way to the entrance. I arrived shortly after they opened for the evening, and I felt like I was entering some sort of secret pinball speakeasy. I paid the $20 donation fee and began to explore The Sanctum's 50 machines. I was told that the machines get rotated out regularly. There was a good balance of new machines as well as classic ones. A lot of people were there to train for tournaments, but I was only interested in some old fashioned pinball fun. I had a blast! I ended up staying for almost the entire night and I probably tried just about every machine there. Some of my favorites included "Rush", "Alien", "Pulp Fiction", "The Shadow", "King Kong: Myth of Terror Island", "Godzilla" and "Evil Dead". Nice size stadium with plenty of seats and a great view no matter the spot. The bathrooms are located outside in the pavilion and they are disgusting. Old school urinal that looks like a giant sink. No soap or paper towels in the bathroom didn't help. The parking was conveniently located on a dirt lot outside the stadium. $10 to park and another $11 for the game ticket. Definitely worth another trip when Brown is back in New Haven.

This is a review of the Yale University athletic fields just across Central Avenue from the…read morestadium. During the 1950s, these athletic fields surrounded a complex of married student housing units. The address for this complex was 70 Central Avenue. The houses were quonset huts with corrugated metal roofs. In the summer, we threw punctured water hoses over our roof to keep it wet and to cool down the inside. Each quonset hut was divided in half, for use for two different families. The front door for each half resided at opposite sides of the quonset hut. The family occupying the other half of our quonset was the Anamunthado family from Bermuda. The inside of their home had a bad smell. My photographs show me, my mother, me and my sister at Halloween, one of my parties inside our quonset hut showing my friends from Edgewood Elementary School, and me and my sister inside the quonset hut wearing Davy Crockett hats. The athletic fields to the north were used for football practice, and I enjoyed viewing the large sleds with huge pads, where the pads were used for football players for shoving and pushing. Another athletic field was indoors, and this was an indoor polo field where students could ride horses and play polo. On a couple of occasions, I cut across the athletic field to the north on my way to school, and I crawled under the fence at the northeast corner of the field, but usually I took the sidewalk the entire way to Edgewood School. In one of my photos, you can see a girl (not a relative) wearing an Edgewood School shirt. In 1960, the quonset huts were torn down and we moved to Seattle.

This weekend fair is held in August, and just a few minutes from Plymouth. Follow the signs, help…read morekeep traffic down! There's a lot of parking and several different lots. The fair is about middling in size compared to other fairs in the area, but a very diverse collection of food and retail vendors. The deep fried devil dogs were chocolate, gooey, deliciousness (although seriously oversugared). There are a lot of rides for adults and kids, a wide variety of farm animals, and a good way to spend many hours.

There's plenty of activities for the 100,000 people that visits. There were plenty of food tents, a parade, fireworks, carnival rides, arts & crafts, live music, and more. There were parking ordinances throughout. I saw many lots charging a fee and free parking throughout. We were able to find free parking at a municipal parking lot, after some driving aorund. The event was packed! I had apple cider margarita at a booth with live music. Also, I had apple crisp with vanilla ice cream from a church; both items were good! My family had a fun time at this traditional event and glad to have checked it off our list.

The O'Connell Center is the home arena for Division III University of Saint Joseph's volleyball,…read morebasketball and swimming/diving teams. The gym has bleachers on one side of the court and they can hold about 500 fans. One interesting thing about the bleachers, they are marked with black tape to signify where your personal space ends and where the personal space of your neighbor starts. We just attended a St Joseph's Men's basketball game that was part of the USJ Holiday Tournament. If you've never been here before, you have to understand that Division III basketball at USJ is no frills - no snack bar (except for a coed selling bags of chips from a table in the lobby), no pep band, no cheerleaders, no video scoreboard, and no halftime entertainment except for a half-court shot attempt by a spectator. What you will see is a great effort by some real student athletes playing hard in front of family and friends. We also got to see legendary coach Jim Calhoun on the St Joseph sidelines, he threw a water bottle to the ground twice, because of some dubious shot selection by his team. St. Joseph had a strong game against Fisher College - they sprinted out to a 51-15 halftime lead, then traded baskets in the second half to cruise to a 91-56 victory. One cool thing we saw at the arena was a 1/10th mile jogging track suspended above the court in a balcony where lots of banners honoring various student-athletes were on display. Admission was just ten bucks. Not a bad way to spend a few hours watching these kids play.

Nice facilities with good concessions such as pizza, beer, wine, popcorn, fried dough, hotdogs, food trucks etc. Hartford didn't win the night we went but it was still a fun time and would recommend checking it out if you're looking for a fun night out. Dillon the mascot was so much fun and there were tons of people at the game. Like a whole world existed that I had no idea about. Food-wise, I tried a hot dog and popcorn. It may not be as fancy as the Hartford Yard Goats, but it is a super fun and clean stadium. The bathrooms were spotless. There was a beer garden and even a place to play corn hole. I had a blast at my first ever game and will definietly go back to another and bring some friends. The bleechers we packed with people and the energy was awesome.
