Fantastic! A friend recommended the Beehive and it was everything and more than it was billed. I had the lunch special which was the Salisbury Steak and it was phenomenal. Horrible experience. During our drive through downtown Abilene!! 3 hostess girls perhaps school-aged made an effort to ignore us, it seemed like. After a long time of them having hushed conversations, which they seemed to run out of after a while, one of them seemed compelled to ask what we wanted since we were occupying space in their place of business. Not sure which genius of them came up with that question to ask but it was a result of sustained effort between those brilliant minds. With visions of promises awaiting us based on that interaction, I immediately wanted to leave but my company thought they were playing in a different game with better outcomes. After a confused while they offered a place near the bathroom/kitchen area where a lot of the waitstaff hung out and filled drinks, etc. Reluctant service, seated near the bathrooms....what does all this sound like? Only thing missing was the sign about preferred customers - no thank you. My company was forced to admit that we were in the same game that did not pay out a lot. So we moved on - willing to part with my dollar only for a modicum of respect - call me crazy! read more

Honestly, the best steak I have ever had at a restaurant. It was perfect.... Located in an Up N Coming Downtown area of Abilene, TX. Love the Downtown of Abilene. It has so much potential. Great little bar when you walk in to the left. Bartenders are friendly and willing to mix it up a little. They also know how to make a nice drink. Appetziers: I had the Smoked salmon, escargot, and a small dinner salad. All three of these got the party started right. Main Course: 14oz New York Strip was cooked like it was touched by God. I have had Perry's, Ruth, and many many more. This medium rare steak had the perfect amount of pink when I cut into the strip. Every bit was heaven. I accompanied the strip with a loaded baked potato. I would highly recommend this place if you have time to stop in Abilene. Here in Abilene on business for a couple weeks. I have not reviewed all the places, yet, but will. Walked in with a party for two and we were seated within 3 minutes. The server took about 4-5 minutes to get to us. He seemed a little behind or maybe just too many tables for him to handle. We ordered drinks which were slow to arrive the entire meal. We just ordered a little early to offset the delay. Once we ordered the food things began to roll out smoothly. Salad came out and fresh bread right behind it. The beehive salad was a perfect combination of greens and egg plus a little blue cheese crumble. For the entree I went with the smaller 10oz ribeye medium rare and grilled asparagus. WOW! Best cooked steak I have had in a very long time. Cooked perfectly, very tender seasoned well and the asparagus was perfectly cooked just a tad crisp but not soggy! My guest's meal looked great he ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. The fries looked average but the sandwich itself appeared amazing and succulent. The service seemed a little slow and on a date night with my wife it would probably have been OK. On the way back to Dallas from a football game with my son, I decided to make a stop in this location of The Beehive after my mixed experience at the location in Albany. This one was a big improvement. I didn't get to go it, but it looks like they have a pretty nice bar. The service was very good. My waiter was attentive without being a pest. I had a filet that was prepared very well. My son had prime rib, and after he let me try it, I almost wished I had ordered it instead; it had an excellent flavor and was cooked perfectly (you often get prime rib overcooked). They serve it with Yorkshire Pudding, which you don't see nearly often enough. Our sides were very good too. I was impressed with the prices...lower than you would expect for this quality. No real downside to the restaurant at all. The only low spot were the four middle aged skanks seated next to us who were talking about their sex lives at the top of their drunken lungs. I really didn't mind, though. It saved me from having to explain the facts of life to my son. I probably should have picked up their tab. read more

They don't take reservations, but dang the food is worth it. This is a must eat place in downtown Abilene. They have the strongest long island iced tea I have ever tasted. I love the home style feel and the country twang The Beehive has. This is one of two of their locations. The other is located in Albany and is the original Beehive. They have everything from healthy salads all the way to steak and chicken fried chicken. There is something here for everyone. It is a sit down restaurant that won't hurt your pocket book too much. They have never in the many years of me eating here gotten my order wrong. That is a big deal. I am kind of a diva when I order that usually changes one thing or another about my entree. Came across this place on a business trip. We came straight here after leaving Abihaus (see review). The building is beautiful. We came a bit later at night so things were pretty quiet and relaxed. We were seated and there was a busboy bussing the table beside us. He was an older gentlemen and immediately began speaking to us and telling us some of his favorites on the menu. He also told us if we like a bit of spice to order our steaks "peppered", which isn't stated on the menu. He said they dry rub the steaks with a pepper blend before grilling. We continued to chat with him and he went on his way. When our waiter came to the table we complimented the busboy's knowledge and attitude. The waiter proceeded to tell us that he was the OWNER. We were blown away. The owner was at the restaurant around 10pm bussing tables. It's a small thing, but something you don't often see. Now, to the meal! Make sure for your salad course you go with the Beehive salad. You wouldn't think ranch dressing and blue cheese crumbles go well together, but they do. The salad was excellent. The NY strip was the best steak I have ever had. It was charred to a delicious crisp on the outside and pink and juicy on the inside. It was beautiful. Let me start by saying I really like the owners of this establishment and want them to continue to do well. However, my experience tonight was truly awful. The Beehive does not take reservations, so I showed up fairly early on a Thursday evening (6:30) with a party of 7. Although there were numerous tables available that could have been made to fit 7 it took 50 minutes to be seated and this was accomplished only by asking for status from the host. Once seated the service was as expected until the meal was complete and then took forever to get our check and pay out. So, it took 2 1/2 hours to have dinner when it should have easily been accomplished in half that time. Ali and Nariman, please pay attention to your staff. This was a completely unacceptable experience while trying to celebrate my son's acceptance into a university and made for a very trying evening. read more

Well we finally made it up to Beehive last night for dinner. In a way I'm upset we waited so long. On the specials board it noted a stuffed pork chop dinner that ultimately was my choice. It came with cheese mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a salad. After reading the reviews here I got the bleu cheese salad and in my opinion it tasted like ranch dressing with bleu cheese crumbles, good but not great. The pork chops came out and were stuffed with andouille sausage plus some type of breading and cheese mixture. I thought it couldn't get any better, but wrapped around the whole thing was a piece or two of bacon... Our waiter told us they usually only make twenty or so on the night they serve them, and I was order eleven. The taste was outstanding to say the least. It had the perfect balance of spices that didn't overpower and the meat was cooked just right. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were delicious as well, but hard to focus on with the pork being the star. Other than that my iced tea was great, service was awesome, and somehow we managed to try a piece of oreo cheesecake for dessert that ended the experience on a high note. We went to dinner on Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 and went to the hostess to give our names. We would be a party of 5, but 3 hadn't arrived, and there is a clearly posted sign saying they only seat complete parties. The hostess said there was a 5 top available but encouraged us to have the rest of our party hurry. While we waited, several groups of 2 and 4 people came in and were told there was a 30 minute wait. Thankfully our other 3 arrived before any other group, so we were quickly seated. We decided to skip appetizers, as we always feel we fill up too quickly on them. Our order was taken by a very personable lady who was consistently patient and attentive throughout. Two of us opted for soup instead of salad, and the soup was a beef potato soup that was very good and not overly heavy/filling. One of the salad eaters selected honey mustard dressing and said it was delicious. Husband had the ribeye and it was very good. Teen had the sirloin and it was good also. Two of us had chicken breasts and they were decent. Chicken fried steak was huge and good. The sweet potatoes were delicious but VERY tiny. My husband could not get any craft beer or local beer; the only out of the ordinary beer was Samuel Adams Boston Lager. I had a pineapple juice and Malibu drink that was very good. We shared two desserts-cheesecake with raspberry compote and seven layer chocolate cake. Both were good-but the seven layer cake was amazing! Really moist and delicious. We had a party of nine, and it was grad day so obviously everyones going out trying to have their celebratory dinners etc but come on now you told us an hour wait . . . and we were there for almost two hours. During a recent road trip, we had tagged Beehive as our dinner spot for Abilene, based mostly on online reviews. After checking in at our hotel, we also asked the local staff for recommendations, and the Beehive got 2 thumbs up. We expected more of a "hole-in-the-wall" type of joint, but the restaurant is very nicely appointed and more upscale than we were prepared for. However, none of the staff batted an eye at our less than casual dinner attire. We shared the filet oscar, which was cooked to perfection and quite tasty. On the server's recommendation, we had the sauteed mushrooms as well, and the wine sauce they were prepared in was a perfect complement to the steak. The salad was a typical caesar, although we were given the option of anchovies (yum!). A selection of bread rolls was provided, and they were all tasty, though one variety had a distinct pre-frozen aftertaste. We selected a piece of carrot cake to go as our dessert, as we were quite full from our meal. It was a bit of a disappointment, being dry and not having much flavor. This is a fine dining restaurant near downtown Abilene. Plenty of free parking. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated in a quiet area of the restaurant. They had several large parties already seated this date. We ordered the mushrooms from the appetizers and they were fantastic. We ordered the large NY strip, medium, and it comes with baked potato or fries - we opted for the baked and soup or salad. The soup this night was a creamy florentine. The soup was DEE-LISH as well. The steak was presented and came out rare, so we had to send it back, but on second delivery it was almost perfect...almost. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The long island ice teas are strong, limit two. they have a nice bar area that is first available, if you are going to go for dinner you will have to wait a while. Gets pretty full when they are open for lunch. I had to go with the chicken fried steak after I heard the fascinating story of the founders of the Beehive Restaurant (give it a read!). This was the first sit-down restaurant I went to with my wife when we moved to Abilene. The food was great as was the service. I went another time with a couple coworkers, and it was just as good as the first time. I got a side of vegetables which was also cooked perfectly. I would rank Beehive at least 4.5 stars for service alone. We eat there every couple of months and have NEVER had a bad waiter or waitress. I'll just talk about this visit in this review. Special for the night (Saturday February 16th, 2016) was Prime Rib and a Veal Porterhouse. We always go with fried mushrooms to start things off. U can't beat $6 for an entire plate full of these little darlings. Always delicious. The wife went out of her norm (steak) and ordered the cheeseburger. She said it was very good and she could only manage to eat half before filling up. I did as I generally do and took whatever the special was. I have yet to be disappointed. I will admit (even being a foodie) that I have never had the opportunity to eat a Veal Porterhouse. It was about 1 3/4" thick, cooked perfectly (medium rare,) and I would estimate it weighed around 12-14 oz. It was delicious. Very tender. Came off the bone very easily and was very juicy. A very nice mesquite grilled flavor as well. It was topped with grilled mushrooms in a marsala sauce. The sauce was just rich enough without overpowering the meat. The grilled vegetables went well with the Marsala. The veges were also a nice surprise. Both purple and yellow cauliflower mixed with broccoli and bell peppers. The new potatoes were also very good although I only had one (don't eat many potatoes anymore.) The best part was our waitress. She was a lady that had worked with my wife and I both at a local restaurant while we were working our way through college. She called us by name!!! It's been 20+ years. She was fantastic the whole night. Very deserving of the tip she received. So as usual, the Beehive was top-notch. read more

I must say that for the price...this is easily the best steak I've had. The restaurant is nice, quiet, clean and welcoming. You are greeted warmly upon entering and treated as an important client throughout the meal. The owner does not only greet you, but serves dishes and works alongside his employees. I can't express just how impressed I was by the service. It was genuine and well-appreciated. Now to the food. The salad was nice...a bit too much dressing, but it didn't bother me as I came for the beef. The bread was delicious and was served promptly. I ordered the ribeye and was not disappointed. It was cooked with a very nice sear and was well-marbled. It did not disappoint. I have had better steaks, but at a much higher price (and without the service).
