I'd occasionally have my shoes polished in a style similar to in a mall or hotel lobby. While they'd look fine in the short term, one ride on the El later and they no longer look as glamorous. After moving away from home, I no longer had my own cobbler for maintenance. My poor footwear was downright embarrassing! Yelp pointed me to Beehive, and though my wallet is lighter than I expected, I couldn't be happier. I was taken aback at the initial price, but Sam explained the process to rejuvenate the leather. I decided to go for it. They do have stations for a quick mall-style polish as well, if that's what you're after. What I got back was three pairs of shoes that looked [almost] new! I realized that the heel cap on my Allen Edmonds dress shoe was coming loose and figured I should address it before I lost it. After my last meeting of the day, I called Beehive as they were the nearest repair shop, they told me to come in and they would be able to fix it. Without any discussion of price I handed over my shoes to a staff member and they put me in a seat to watch Knight Rider (I mean, it was on the TV, what're you gonna do?) while they repaired it. I was thinking a heel tack and some shoe goo...but they whisked them away behind the front counter and we were off to the races. The longer I waited the more I became moderately concerned that this might cost a lot more than I had bargained, but, in for a penny, in for a pound. Ultimately they replaced the heels with actual Allen Edmonds parts so while I thought $50 was a little steep (they replaced both heels and it looks brand new), it is more likely this was totally in line and I'm just cheap. The real kicker here...I had called them before I stopped in to make sure it was a "while you wait" situation. Thank goodness I had, because I subsequently left my sunglasses in the store. They found my phone number in from their recent call log, called me, and I was able to run back and grab my Oakleys. So ultimately they saved me close to a hundred bucks on glasses, if I had to replace them. Without a doubt, FIVE star service. I was extremely satisfied with my shoe repair at Beehive. The pricing was fair, turnaround was about two days & the final product was amazing. Not only did they repair my shoe but he explained to me why it happened & what to look for in the future. I've needed several shoe repairs over the years & I usually end up begging the original manufacturer for assistance. The same goes for this situation however the manufacturer suggested a local "shoe cobbler" & after a quick Yelp search these guys were #1 & I can clearly see why. They have everything you need for the upkeep and repair of your shoes. They have about a half dozen shine chairs lining the wall, and an army of guys that make your shoes look like mirrors (Just like Spit Shine Tommy). They even took particular joy in breaking in my boots with their first shine. I've brought in shoes for various repairs and always left pleased with their work. My tiny little wife walks like an elephant and has had a bunch of resole and heel repairs here too. They have all the shoe trees, polishes and brushes that you could need. If you have any shoes that need repair and even if they seem beyond repair, bring them here! I brought in a really worn down pair of wooden heels/clogs. The heel tip had fallen off at some point and I was basically walking around on plain, untreated wood. The heel was pretty bad and I didn't think they'd be able to do anything with them, but not only did they fix them, they added a leather piece between the heel and the tip to prevent it from happening again! I was so, so happy and impressed. I also brought in a pair of wedges with a broken strap that were fixed up like new. I love this place and I love their customer service. Great place for a shoe shine and heel plates (the spot at 35 N Wells).....the guys who work here are fast, have plenty of news papers to reads, and do an EXCELLENT shine. I believe its only $4. I also have my golf shoes done here...and while the work is GREAT its $16.....a bit on the high side.....but shoes are always ready when promised. **"Lost" Shoes** I'm honestly sad to write this review because I initially had great experience and was looking forward to somewhere I could count on as I get shines regularly. I initially visited the shop for a shine and everything turned out great. Then, I HAD a pair of Magnani's that I needed repaired / freshened up so I dropped them off for service, was given a "ticket" and told that I would be contacted once the cobbler returned. They were a little stand offish and not very welcoming but if there's great service I'm willing to look past personalities. A few days went by and no contact. Then I found my "ticket" with the number, called and nothing...they couldn't find my shoes and didn't have a record of the "ticket number" but would research and call me back. I never heard back from them AND it turns out THEY LOST MY SHOES!! No recourse, no remorse and I honestly don't think they even care... Horrible experience and I would highly recommend either A. Not visiting this shop, especially not for "drop off repairs" or B. If you do choose to drop off MAKE SURE to get the name of a specific manager, not just the "ticket" (this is worthless if they can't find or even look for your shoes) and follow up IMMEDIATELY to make sure they don't lose your shoes because they won't care if they do. Do not trust them to follow up or search on your behalf. Very unfortunate and sad because I was looking forward to a great local shop I could visit on a consistent basis. read more

I've been going here for years. I walk heavy and can't stay out of my 3 1/2 heels, so I wear them down pretty quickly. Before Beehive, I was having to get the heels replaced several times a season but they do such a great job that I usually only have to get them fixed once a season or twice for fav pairs. Once the closed toe shoes come out, I get them shined too. The guys do excellent work and get all of the salt from Chicago's city streets off plus they literally shine for days after. It used to crack me up when my boss thought I got new shoes all the time and it would be days after I took them to BeeHive. Now I usually take me favorite 3yr old in with me. The customer service is so outstanding that she says the shoe place is 'her favorite place in the whole wide world'. How often do you hear a kid say that when no one is giving her candy or sweets? Beehive's leather repair service is beyond comparison. They were able to repair a very badly damaged, old, and expensive boxer's headgear. I brought it in extremely worn with missing chunks of leather and a shredded chin strap. Sam was able to fully recondition the leather, repair the missing and/or ripped leather with high-quality leather, and replace the chin strap. It looks better than it did when it was new! Sam is like a leather magician! I am very very impressed. The repair work didn't take long either.
