If you read any review PLEASE read this one. I brought in my favorite pair of leather boots which are 10 years old; the rubber soles were finally starting to give and it is my biggest regret that I trusted Gus to fix them. I asked if he could replace the soles with ones that were Identical to the rubber heeled original Blundstones I had and Gus said yes. The pictures speak for themselves. They came out worse than when I gave them to him!!! They aren't glued on properly & are already peeling off, there's glue all over the shoe, a completely different color, and they're a cheap material that was NOT agreed upon! (Someone picked up the shoes for me and sent me a picture of them) I immediately called them to tell him how upset I was. I asked Gus why he said he could do what I was asking for when he couldn't. He immediately made excuses saying "They don't manufacture the bottoms I had and that they were crap" I paid $125 to get my favorite pair of shoes ruined. Apparently there's no refund for unfinished, awful, and quite frankly not even what I asked for!! Not to mention the fact Gus had the audacity to ask for a tip. He offered good suggestions to address the issues I had with several pairs of shoes that would have been thrown out if not for his top notch repairs. The location at 540 W. Madison is horrible. They promote all this work that the man claims to do yet he's not the one doing the actual work. I went there to get my coat repaired & the job was terrible. It looked like something a kindergartener could've done. The thread was two different colors neither of which matched the coat & I was charged $40. The guy in the shop even said the coat wasn't done right & when I asked for half of my money back they refused. I don't recommend anyone going to use their service as the customer service was horrible as well especially after they had done a horrible job. read more

I was trying to find a shoe repair store that was open on Indigenous Peoples' Day but they all closed early. This store was closing but after I called, they said they would stay open for me since I was only 5 mins away (so nice)! The bottoms of my boots were worn down pretty badly but now they look brand new! The man who helped me was so upbeat and friendly too. read more

They repair, shine and resole shoes. The guys are pretty nice but the prices have gone up considerably recently. My shoe shine was $12. A few months ago it was $7. They have done a variety of things that have helped me get some extra mileage out of the shoes so overall it's pretty good and they are pretty fast with the repairs. read more

Gus did a truly phenomenal job refurbishing my white Giuseppe sneakers! When I had brought them in to him they were a complete mess, the bottoms had torn through, the lining was worn out, and they had started to turn yellow. He managed to completely change out the bottom to a highly durable rubber, repainted the entire sneaker white as snow, worked out the wrinkles in the leather and added a missing zipper. He even went above and beyond the original work description and changed out the inner linings for me at no additional cost! He did all this at a very reasonable price compared to other shops in the area that I had compared to. Couldn't be happier with the work that was done and will definitely return there in the future! read more

Brought my stilettos to them and paid $20 to change the heel tips. After wearing them twice, one of the tips simply came off. I came in and asked to redo since the work they've done was poor and of no quality only to find out that it's all "on me" and "it does not matter," and they have to charge me again. I booked Chicago Cobblers for my luggage using Radical Storage. I arrived promptly to see a sign that Gus left saying he would be back in 20 minutes. I called him and he said to give him 30 minutes and I was like okay. 1 hour later he did not show up and 3 others with luggage showed up. The 3 others called him for Gus to tell us to leave $20 with his friend outside. It was just a shady thing to do. anyways. I took a pair of Jordan X that the sole was coming off on the front. The staff was extremely friendly from beginning to finish. They explained exactly what they needed to do, why, and how long it should take and quoted me a very reasonable price. Instead of it being ready 2 days later, which was totally reasonable for me, they contacted me about 3 or 4 hours later saying the shoes were ready! Since I had given my contact number, they sent pictures of the shoes, looking good because not only the good workmanship that went into it, but also because of the shine that they applied to the shoes too, at no extra cost! Such a great experience, cannot recommend this place enough for the excellent customer service, great value and how above and beyond they went. Highly recommended!! read more

I am very pleased with my experience at Chicago Cobblers! The boys there were great to work with. Super friendly! Super fast! I wasn't sure what to expect and with a $300 pair of shoes was worried about the same day shoe service...to be honest. As a Hotelier, I need to look sharp and crisp. I notice the details, and these guys focus on the details. Gus is the man, and they had my shoes ready within a few hours. They even buffed and shined my shoes (which is standard) but their workmanship on both the replacement of the soles and the shine were at or above my expectations. I took a purse in to have a zipper replaced. I was told it would cost $45 to replace the zipper. I said forget it and walked out. I walked a couple blocks east to Sam the Shoe Doctor and got the zipper replaced for $20. read more

I took a vintage bag in that needed some repairs. The man who took it in said that for $100, he would clean it, condition it and make it look brand new. I should've know better but I agreed. Of course that didn't happen. They put some leather conditioner on the leather, which I had already done. Then they covered some of the brown piping with black goop. The repair was ok but the conditioning not so much, and the black on the piping looks tacky. I paid them $80 and felt like I was ripped off. read more
