We contacted Beer Shop because we wanted to have our welcome reception here for the day before our wedding. They were incredibly accommodating and even offered to reserve the outdoor patio for us for free! It turned out to be the perfect space and everyone enjoyed the drink selection. Checked out Beer Shop the other night and liked it a lot. The bar is fairly small and the beer list had more IPAs than anything else (not my fav), but everything we did sample was great. The choices rotate weekly, as well. FYI - no food is served other than peanuts, but you can bring or order in your own. read more

What a cool little spot for the hard core craft beer lover. You won't find any bud here. I used work in the shoe store that was there a long time ago. And I could barely tell it was the same space. They ripped out the awful drop ceiling to show this gorgeous tin ceiling. It's amazing. Maybe a little dark but cool none the less. Anyway the beer is really what you're coming for. And they got it. And unlike some of the other bars in the area when they're keg kicks they take it off the list on the screen immediately and replace it with something else. Sounds simple but it's genius. I went here after work for a quick beer. The service was great. And I noticed you can but 6 packs there as well if you choose. They don't serve food but they will give you menus if you need them. Obviously much needed. I'm glad more businesses are finding ways to open actual bars in Oak Park. Great selection and knowledgeable servers. Comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Though I have to be honest, I like the idea of dogs allowed at the bar more in theory than in practice. When I go there and there are 4-5 dogs pulling on their leashes and filling the places with tripping hazards, it's kind of.... meh. Also, the dogs do not seem to be enjoying themselves. It seems kind of unfair to the critters to drag them to a place where there's nothing for them to do and they're overstimulated and confined to their leashes. read more

BEWARE! If you do not like dogs, are afraid of dogs or have allergies related to dogs this may not be the place for you. This is a great little beer bar, however the owners not only allow patrons to bring their dogs but also allow them to roam around the venue. We enjoyed our beers and the bartender was amazing, however when we first came in there was one small dog off leash. We were in the back of the bar, so within 30 minutes my husband started experiencing allergy issues. We decided to leave and on our way discovered there were at least 6 or 7 dogs in the place. My husband, who is allergic to dogs suffered a severe allergy attack! One dog, he would have been able to handle but a bar full was bad! Again, it is a nice bar, but it is a little disappointing that they assume that everyone can be around dogs. I understand if they let people bring their dogs on the outside patio...but inside is too much. Unfortunately we will not be able to take the risk of going again.... read more

It's difficult to put into words how much I love this place. It's my go-to place to unwind. The beer/cider selection is always changing and I have yet to have a drink there that I didn't like. It's hard not to smile whenever you interact with any of the staff there. They always make you feel like a welcome friend and they're happy to chat with you about anything and everything. Their TVs have shown movies, prime-time shows, sporting events, and event hosted few video game consoles from time to time. The decor is very modern farmhouse with industrial fixtures, weathered furniture at the front, high tables toward the back, and darker colors, but it's done in a way that makes the place feel comfortable rather than cramped. While they don't serve food, they allow you bring in food which, I feel, is fantastic as it allows me to go out with a group of co-workers while still eating the food I brought from home. If you have the chance, check it out. This place is very much worth your time. read more

Hidden gem! Beer shop is located a few blocks off of busy lake street. They are conveniently located right next to a green line stop and a big parking lot, which is extra nice for anyone not within walking distance. They are not a very big location and Thursday-Saturday the bar is normally full- and for good reason! They offer a large rotating selection of draft craft beers and wine. They also sell a variety of beers for carry out. Along with the beer the atmosphere here is really great. They have a stash of board games, they allow dogs inside, and the bartenders are always very friendly. They also will let you bring in food from any of the near by restaurants! The crowd here varies, but is normally a younger group. Overall, we love Beer Shop! It's got good beer and great charm- what more could you ask for!? read more

Literally the coolest and most welcoming/relaxed place to have a rare beer in the entire Chicagoland area. This place is puppy friendly and set up in such a way that it feels so neighborly and inviting. The beer menu is rotating constantly so everytime you're in, you can be guaranteed to try something different. Bartenders are really cool about letting you sample a beer if you're unsure about ordering, and they always have a good story to tell. This is my favorite spot for lowkey nights - and one of my go-to spots to take friends visiting the area. read more

I like this place. Nice look and feel, very impressive tap selection with a focus on regional brewers and an extensive bottle/can selection to go (including singles and bombers). It is worth noting that drafts are expensive $6-8, so with a tip, you're at @$9-10 a beer. My only reservation about the place is that I've more than once been in and shared the fairly limited seating (2-3 long tables) with 4-5 dogs. Last time in, one of the dogs barked at every pedestrian passing outside. Pet friendly is fine, and the dog owners are certainly part of the problem. But a small space, with limited seating, that seeks a conversation (not sports bar) ambiance needs to exercise a bit of caution about the size and number of dogs allowed in. read more

I wish there was an actual menu with prices on it. I ordered a pretty basic beer that was $8 to my surprise. I was so excited about this place but I probably wouldn't come here with friends for fear that a few beers would cost way more than expected. It's annoying for me to have to try to read the TV menu and I'd prefer a simple paper list, even if they had 2 or 3 binders to pass around with prices that would be cool. Service is okay, atmosphere is okay, I'd prefer more seating options. Another byof beer place has a list of food places w menus that will deliver...I'd recommend this as well. One of my favorite places in the Oak Park/Forest Park area. Friendly staff. 12 beers on tap that are constantly rotating and a good selection. There is also a large selection of bottle and package to-go beer. Does not serve food but allows you to bring outside food in (BYOF). There are plenty of food option walking distance (BBQ, Tacos, Chinese or Pizza) or you can just order delivery. Plenty of TVs and space to play board games. Constantly having events, like live music or book readings. Best part is dogs are allowed in. read more

Without a doubt the most approachable bar in Oak Park, and with the simplest (always excellent) beer choices. No food menu, which is as much part of the charm as it is a small disadvantage. Attempted to go spend some money here (need a new bottle shop to support my absurd purchasing decisions). Both Google and their website listed opening time at 9 am on Saturday. Gave it till 930, not a soul to be found and their VM isnt even set up on the listed phone number, let alone an outbound message explaining a late open. Not a great way to run a business. read more

This place has a very fun laid back atmosphere. Beer selection is always excellent without being overwhelming and they have bottles and cans you can take home too. They are kid and dog friendly (as in, you can bring your dog INSIDE). It's an informal hangout for cyclists which is fun. They're now open in the morning with iced coffee on tap and donuts etc. I don't know where the baked good come from but the banana nut muffin I just had was excellent; fresh, moist, and not too sweet. I really like this place and have been many times. Last night, however, was a little disappointing. My husband and I stopped in for a drink after a movie. We sat at the bar and from the get go, our bartender was incredibly rude (!). It was slightly amusing because sit was so unexpected, but also off putting. The highlight was when my husband asked for a recommendation for a "medium" beer and the bartender immediately repsonded that she has no idea what he was talking about. Again he said he was interested in a "medium" beer to which she replied, in what can be accurately described in a condesending tirade, as follows (and loudly): medium what? medium color? medium hops? medium ABV? It would have been so much better to have been educated rather than scolded. read more
