I love beer and am not of the hipster swilling Pabst crowd. Beer Table Pantry has a modest selection of well chosen beers. It is a tiny space, and gets a little awkward if more than two people are in it, but the location is good. So why two stars you ask? These folks think it is okay to rip you off. They have beers selling for nearly three times retail prices. It just isn't okay. I'm not a cheapskate but I'm not a fool either. Vote these arrogant greedy fools out of business. read more

Great beers to go but Beer Table Pantry is a cute name even though a pantry never holds beer although most of them are this size though. Just make sure you're not lugging around a postman size man purse or you might destroy hundreds of dollars of precious beer merchandise on display in one giant swoop. Craft beers here are not cheap yet that's the cost you pay for such high end variety, breathtaking depth and for the luxury of sipping on a rare find like a Greenflash Belgium Pale Ale on the Metronorth ride home. They constantly replenish the rotation of new kegs for Growlers to go. Growlers are basically mini jugs meant for the transportation of fresh, tapped craft beer. Thus far, I've seen everything from Ithaca Flower Power to Dogfish Raison which is a real treat to get straight from the Keg's flowy mouth. Bottle selection is pretty great. Bear Republic and Firestone make regular appearances along with Founders from Michigan. All of the Founder's beers kick consistent big ten ass. Founders Breakfast Stout is last meal worthy for sure. Also, the can selection of craft beers is superb and always includes beers by the king of cans, 21st Amendment from San Francisco. Also, all the cans and bottles are chilled and ready to go even though you don't see the fridges, just the beers on display which are chilling and waiting to be picked up, only in New York City baby. My only beef with Beer Table Pantry is that the beer sales merchants aren't portly enough to be considered credible beer representatives. I'm sorry but I can't believe that the L line, rail thin Hipster that can fit into his own sewn sweater has tried all the beers he proclaims with such assured nonchalance unless those sweater buttons start popping off. If they have tried all of these mouthwatering, holy shit generating beers, than screw them and their Eurorail fast metabolisms. The craft beer revolution continues to pick up steam and its rapid acceleration into the mainstream is readily apparent at the Beer Table Pantry which has bourbon barreled stouts, Date fruit flavored ales and toasty, pine rich, double IPA's for all. Just don't ask them what type of beer they order whenever they go out. Its goes against the hipster code of conduct to emote on any particular favorite. Overall, the best thing about Beer Table Pantry is that it makes the ride home from Grand Central that much more triumphant and eventful knowing that your streak of knocking back Budweiser Tall Boys have come to an overdue, close. On top of that you can freak out everyone in the train by popping open a bottle of Firestone IPA with the end of a highlighter to show what an enlightened, resourceful drinker you've been for all these years. Bottle openers at the Beer Pantry are a buck but the reaction you get from the highlighter trick is priceless. read more

As a mild craft beer fan (I'm more of a "wine please" human) w/an *avid* craft beer fan partner, Beer Table Pantry has made our commuting lives much, much easier. They not only provide cold or warm craft beers of such luminary breweries as Dogfish Head, Baladin, and Allagash - they also have a small growler selection. This means I can pick up a good bottle or growler for my sweetie and then, if I want, get something for myself. The single star I took off is for two things - one, it's hard to browse in such a small place... two, do they SERIOUSLY think anyone is going to buy pickles here? Really? Put some beer on those shelves, people!!! read more

This place was great! They had a wide selection of craft beers with a range of prices. If you are looking for something cheep and watery, go somewhere else because they only have fine beers here. The least expensive was around five bucks but worth every penny. It's the perfect place to dull and pick something up before getting on the metro north where you can drink freely. They will even sell you a bottle opener for one dollar so you can open it on the train to avoid being fined for walking around with an open container in a train station. read more

Good selection, friendly staff, but if I am paying top dollar for an OK pilsener while racing for my train it absolutely needs to be cold. That's not been the case here on a few occasions which is why I will not be coming here any longer. read more

Super bummed. Not sure I want to knock this place as a whole because the guys here seemed super nice. Upon walking in I thought this place was super novel, allowing you to get beer on tap right at the train station. The guys working also seemed super knowledgeable and friendly. I went and purchased 3 pints "To Go" and they all seemed like they would be solid beers as a gift for my father. We never got to taste them though. I told the guy working the counter I was traveling and he assured me, "no worries the pints are spill proof, but not necessarily leak proof, so just keep them upright to avoid leaks." After that I decided to pop in one more shop before catching my train. Well, one subtle bump in a crowded store busted the pints all right open, spilling nearly everything on the floor. Not only was I super embarrassed and smelling like hops, I didn't even have time to go back; money down the drain quite literally. So maybe this place has potential, but just make sure you avoid all potential spill hazards. Good thing this place isn't one of the busiest train stations in the world. read more

This place is a gem in grand central. Can grab a stellar craft beer before you get on the train. Such a good selection. BUT...so freaking expensive. You pay double here what you pay at the other craft beer bottle shops in Manhattan. Dont rely on this place to stock your fridge or you will end up in the pour house. read more

Always full of a great selection of beer and cider. I prefer IPAs and they recently have upped their game. They had so many great ones to choose from (in cans) this past Friday I had trouble deciding which ones to get. But the gentleman working was helpful and I created a great 4-pack. Pretty sweet that you can mix and match. I've also been to the World Trade location and had a similar, great experience. A bit pricey, but the selection is top notch. read more

I just had a terrible experience with my friend here. We went to buy The Rick's Picks pickles and beets in the window that we saw and we were craving. So excited to get these, which we've had before from the Ricks Picks stand in the Union Square market, we went to Beer Table Pantry and bought a half pound of each. When we got to our office we opened up both products, the beets tasted absolutely amazing. When we opened the pickles, however, we were so disappointed. The smell of the pickles was rotten and we were too grossed out to even try them. As I said, we've both eaten these pickles before and this was nothing like what we've had. We went back to the store to return the pickles and received poor customer service. The girl helping us was dismissive, rude, and condescending. She did not address our concerns. It was less about the $6 we spent on the pickles and more about the bad experience and lack of customer service. I would not recommend coming to this shop. read more

great little (emphasis on little) shop with a shit-ton of craft beers, both available for purchase in bottles as well as ~6 to choose from to fill a growler. staff is super friendly and knowledgeable--i don't know a lot (read: anything) about craft beer, though i know what varietals i'm partial to. i described what i was looking for/liked, and they quickly had numerous suggestions for me. will certainly be back. read more
