Wish I could give ZERO STARS! The owners are rude and irresponsible!! They allowed a customer to sit in their outdoor cafe with 2 dogs and one of them bit my husband who was sitting at the next table. He asked the bar owner for the dog owners name (dog owner wouldn't exchange information) so that Animal Control for NYC and the DOH could have the dog quarantined at home for 10 days. The owners of City Swiggers refused to comply and so my husband needed to go for rabies shots as recommended by the DOH My husband likes the beer but be warned that they allowed a dog with a history of biting and their answer was to ban my husband from the store. We just wanted to avoid the rabies shots. Thanks to Alan and Pam the owners he had to go to the ER and get the rabies series This is how they treat a long time customer!! If you're wondering, my husband likes the beer selection even though it's way overpriced! Some of the same beer at Fairway is cheaper. In a city filled with excellent beer bars and bottle shops, this was a highlight. City Swiggers is in a bustling area filled with restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating. This place has a few tables on the sidewalk outside, plus a seating box in the street, and cozy tables at the back inside. They also have restrooms for customers. Coming in off the street, you'll find their excellent bottle shop selection. Cans and bottles line the walls and island; the island is used for free tastings hosted in partnership with different breweries - be sure to check their social media for times and dates. The bar area is small with about ten stools; the low ceiling makes the whole place feel cozy. The highlight of course was the selection of beer: they also have a number of drafts, mainly from New York and the surrounding area. The bartender was super friendly and happy to chat about their beer. We sat outside in the afternoon air and enjoyed a few flights including some rare styles that were fun to share with the family. Today I stopped in for a free Austin Eastciders tasting and absolutely loved it. The place itself had a really chill and welcoming vibe, and as a younger woman who's relatively new to the craft beer scene I didn't feel like an outsider at all. The bartender was really friendly and helpful, and the Austin Eastciders rep was super fun to talk to and knowledgeable about her product. I also found the sheer variety of beer they had to be outstanding, and picked out a few new IPAs to try at home. I only wish I'd found this place sooner! read more

Glad I found this place that's so conveniently located on a route I travel frequently. It became my number one destination for all things pumpkin as I stockpiled pumpkin flavored beers for the season. I found them because I was hunting down Schafly Pumpkin Beer, which I had on draft last October and thought it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Sadly, getting a true seasonal draft served with a cinnamon sugar rim while sitting at the bar was not in the cards during "these unprecedented times," but being able to at least buy a growler size from City Swiggers to enjoy at home was nearly just as fun. The selection is great for someone who isn't much of a connoisseur, but likes to browse and try new labels. It's easy to buy single cans instead of packs at a time, which is also fantastic! I visited again when I was putting together a variety pack as a house warming gift for some friends. It was also just so easy and convenient. City Swiggers is a great find! read more

What can I say, the formula works well at City Swiggers. There are approximately 20 beers on tap to try, which are constantly changing, giving even the most discerning something interesting to try. The bar is a place where you can meet some great folks, some regulars and some passing through. Everyone is very friendly and chilled, both staff and customers.. I've never heard a raised voice in the place to be honest. Prices are in-line with crazy NYC pricing so this isn't a place to get loaded on cheap beer but you will definitely enjoy what you consume or take away.. Almost forgot, they do have brewers coming in to explain their beers and give tasting sessions for those who are interested in the finer points of brewing!!! Pretty good beer store with a massive selection. Good if you're into weird shit like sours (like I am). I would say the prices are Manhattan prices. You might find some beers on par with the outer boroughs, but for the most part, you're looking at $6 minimum for a 12 oz can. They have some specialty bottles going for 3-4x that as well. They have outdoor seating if you want to sip on beers there. I've been looking through some old pictures and memories and came across this one. I came in five years ago and my cousin took me over for a drink, and it was nice because my cousin made a big deal out of it since he was hosting me and the day we came here was St. Patrick's Day. This review is also five years overdue, but I had a great time and the staff was really friendly. Since I'm on the West Coast, it was really fun to hit up a New York bar and brewery. I can't remember the name of the beer I had, but I think it was something from either New York or Boston, maybe Vermont. Whatever it was, it was a really nice beer and I'm glad my cousin brought me here when he did. A worthy destination for the uptown beer explorer. Prices are pretty reasonable by NYC standards ($3-4 for "common" finds, $6-10 for most items, and up to $12-20+ for limited bottle releases and the like). Really great selection with a good amount of local stuff, but we also found plenty of beers from breweries all over the U.S. that we hadn't been able to locate at other beer shops. Outdoor seating is available, but it's pretty exposed to the elements, so we'll definitely be back once the weather's better. Have also heard really good things about their tasting events, so I'm excited to return and check those out post-pandemic. All in all, one of the best beer selections this far up. read more

Honestly a bit hard to see because of how dim the lights are. Worst yet, extremely pretentious. I enjoy coming to city swiggers because they always have local businesses sampling their products on wednesday and friday. The vendors are always so friendly and knowledgeable and give out free merch often! Apart from the free tastings, city swiggers has such a huge variety of local beers. From the outside, City Swiggers appears to be your average beer shop. Once you step inside, though your whole opinion changes. The walls are lined with various craft beers. You want Budweiser or Corona? Take your sorry ass elsewhere. They also offer quite a few ciders alongside the beers. There is just enough seating in the back for a small group of people who love GOOD beer. Soft music plays in the background, which is a nice touch so you don't have to yell in order to have a conversation. Every week or so, they change the beers on tap. They are all $7 (or at least they were when I visited) and you're allowed to try before you buy (like you should have done with your wife, ayooooo). I was glad I was able to try one first because the first one wasn't up my alley. I finally found one that I truly enjoyed and ordered that instead. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They close at 10 during the week and I believe 11 on Saturdays. It's a great place to stop by before your bar crawl, especially since most bars don't always offer what City Swiggers does. This place is fantastic except for this one bartender/cashier. Extremely rude. I accidentally sat somewhere I wasn't suppose to and he was very very rude about it. He is not what customer service is suppose to be like. Very unprofessional. He has a beard and wears transition lenses and a blue trucker hat. Avoid when he is there. Very unfriendly. All the other staff members here are fantastic, why can he not follow suit. I sat on a case of unopened still packaged beer. Next time just be like "hey man, I'd appreciate if you didn't sit there". I haven't written a review of City Swiggers yet? I don't know why I haven't. I've brought in out-of-town friends, bonded with co-workers and even been there for the BCS release and drank myself silly over glasses of Madame Rose. I think as a bottle shop and a tap room it's a good place to come to and even when it gets super crowded it's, well okay, it can get super crowded but when it isn't it's pretty easy to strike up a conversation with folks. The staff there is nice and friendly even during some pretty hectic times (BCS raffle) and honestly, never had a bad experience. My only hang up is that if I want something to eat I have to close out and go somewhere else, although they recently started serving empanadas but I've yet to try them out. I do agree with the sentiments of a lot of the other reviewers regarding the staff-when we first got there and asked a few questions they were very standoffish and just seemed annoyed that we were there. Once we had a beer and started asking about good beer bars in NYC (we're from Chicago) they opened up a bit and gave us some really good recommendations. The next day we went over to Good Beer and the friendliness of the staff was like night and day compared to City Swiggers. My first time they had a local micro brewing company from upstate come and do a tasting. First time trying an agave aged brew. As an aspiring beer connoisseur, I always find something new every time I go there. They have 14 different beers on tap for people to try. The staff is quite helpful and suggestive depending on your taste preference. So far they've given me good suggestions on the IPA end of the spectrum. Keep it up staff! Excellent selection of beer! They have many bottled beer that you can create your own 6 pack (mix and match style) or just purchase individually. The bottled beer a piece is pretty cheap ~$3. They offer beer flights that change each day, and plenty of space to sit, like a normal bar. (They also sell beer by the growler if you're one of those type people). We came with a big group and had plenty of space at about 2pm on a saturday. They had a few food options, but no one ordered (pretzels, empanadas). We had so much fun looking through all the beer the have and picked our 6 pack for trial. We ended up with 5 bottles of beer and 1 bottle of cheerwine soda. The beer varies by sizes too and in total we paid $20bucks (sounds expensive, but seriously not too expensive because i had a bigger bottle that was $4.50). They also have a mini-bar where you can order flights, get a growlers (buy one 32oz for $3bucks, 64oz for $5), beer to fill your growlers varies, but in the $17 range. There are sitting at the back, not too loud but not too quite. We will come back to check out more craft beer or get a couple of growlers next.! read more

We just went here for a friend's birthday, and it was my first time here. We had a group of 10 and we split our group between two tables, but it was the perfect place for a celebration. The tables are not reserved (first come) and there is no time limit for you when you are at the tables. We got there around 2pm and stayed till 7pm - you can't ask for a better spot during Covid times & regulations. Also, you get an enormous amount of craft beer and cider selection all night long. As far as food....they have little baggies of snacks but I would advise eating beforehand or bringing food with you. They are pretty chill about all that. I had an OK time here. The person behind the bar counter was very nice, and the craft beer selection was certainly vast, but I felt a bit of out of place here. I'm big into craft brews -- specifically NC craft beers -- but City Swiggers doesn't have anything from NC. No biggie though. I was just really underwhelmed by this place.
