The salon owner was very accommodating to me, and the services she provided were personalized to my liking. The hair colorist (summer) worked very quickly, and my hair came out incredibly beautiful. I have been going to this location and the one on Oak Road for eyebrow threading for the past 10 years or so. However, I have consistently seen Sana just the past couple of years. The other eyebrow techs are great, but Sana is my favorite. She plucks just the right amount and gives me great shape. She is always pleasant and friendly. Now my mother and sister come with me to see her. I always call ahead to check which location she is working at that day. This layout is more open compared to the other. This location has a much smaller parking lot than the one on Oak Road. Entrance/exit is a bit tricky off of Five Forks Road, especially during rush hour traffic. Making a left out of the salon can be a challenge. The parking lot can get full easily especially during busy/holiday weekends. Fortunately, most people only come for eyebrow threading which only takes a few minutes, so people are in and out. The salon is clean including the bathroom. I've never tried other services, so I can't speak for their wax services or waxing room. If there's a wait, it's usually just 5-10 minutes. Sana now recognizes me and will usually update me about the wait time. I hope she never leaves! read more

It was ok! I truly wasn't impressed! I got a full face threading. The lady moved my hairline back--what the what!! I've had threading before so I know what to expect, but it was hurting. Then I told the lady I COULD NOT use wax because it breaks out my face. As I sit with my eyes closed, this (nice lady) attempts to use wax--strike 2!! I told her NOT to use wax and she insisted, saying, "just a little bit?" Ummm, I SAID NO FOR A REASON!! The third strike was the cost!! The cost specifically said $25. The first Lady said $35! I referred her to the price list that said, $25! She tells me that the prices were subject to change ANYTIME!! So, again, I was not impressed and would NEVER go back, nor would I recommend this place to anyone!! read more

I'm on my way to a meeting and I completely forgot to get my brows threaded. While in Lilburn, I searched for the closest salon. The Begums Salon popped up. I went immediately. Most salons are closed on Mondays. I was fortunate to find this one open. There was virtually no other businesses open at this hour so I wasn't sure if they would be open. They were. I'm never the one to write reviews like this but I've never had a worse haircut in my life. One side is longer than the other and it's very noticeable. The front my of hair is longer than the back and it looks like a rat chewed off my hair. I had to go to another salon to get this fixed. Moreover, the owner is just plain rude. This salon does hair, facial and threading. For those who aren't familiar with threading, it's an Indian technique of using thread to remove facial hair without leaving red bumps and future ingrown. Ingrown sucks!! Anyways, I found this place through google search and have been coming there for over a year now. I've only done 2 things there: threading and 1 Indian-style Pearl facial. That was the most interesting facial I've ever gotten. I'm not sure if my face felt cleaner or more clogged with pores. Let's just say that I would only go there for the threading. I recommend Minoo - she's the owner and she does a really good job with my brows. I also recommend you calling in advance to make an appointment with her because they always seem to be short-handed. The owner commented and said I had never been to any of their salons and accused me of being a promoter for European wax center.. I went there under my maiden name Leonela contreras. I'm not trying to promote European wax center. In trying inform the customers of the horrible wax jobs I've gotten there that's left me with permanent scars on my face. Beware folks. See ELSEWHERE for waxing. I've gotten underarm, face and lip waxing all of which left me with scars and burns. So, while I was in town visiting family, I figured that I'd go get my hair done at a Dominican salon since there are none where I live. I had a the best hair cut of my life when I was in Dominican Republic, so I keep searching for someone with similar skills. I went to one Dominican salon with high hopes, you know, positive vibrations = good hair cut, right? Wrong! My hair was awful. Could I wait until I got home to fix my hair locally? Absolutely not. I am of those who can't sleep well when I have have a bad hair cut, regardless of who will, or in most cases, will not see it. So, I turned to yelp looking for a place to fix my hair and I stumbled across Begum's and decided to give it a try. And I'm glad I did! I got to the salon and they immediately took me back. The owner not only fixed my hair cut, but also requested that I either stop back by or call after wearing the cut and/or styling it myself to let her know how I liked it. Was this request a direct result of her knowledge that I had looked up reviews of the salon and might actually review it myself? Quite possibly. However, maybe she really wanted to know if I liked my hair, you know, seeing as that what I walked it with resembled something a kindergartener would create with safety scissors. While there, they convinced me to get my eyebrows threaded. It was my first time with threading and I was not at all prepared for the discomfort of the experience as I often go the painless route and use a razor to groom my eyebrows. That said, I liked my eyebrows a lot yesterday, but I LOVE them today. My biggest problem in life now will be finding a salon of quality where I live. Driving 7 hours just to get my eyebrows threaded and a trim seems a little crazy. I've been in Gwinnett since 95 and I have passed this location more times than I am able to remember. I never knew this little gem was so close to me. I went in at 6:30 and didn't know they closed at 7 until I was leaving. I felt very comfortable and loved the attention to detail to my eyebrows. I did opt for a full face threading and wax. I went in yesterday 12/4/18 to get my eyebrows done. Waited 20 minutes before being told it would take another 10 minutes. After waiting for a good 15 min, a customer come out from the back. The beautician tells the customer don't worry I will take care of u those 2 can wait. Meaning myself and another guest. That's 30 minutes of my time wasted. Would not recommend going there. First off, let me say that prior to this visit, I was a long time customer of Begum's Salon (Lilburn location). I've typically had my eyebrows threaded there since they first opened. During my first visit, the threading technician did such a horrible job and I was so dissatisfied, that Minoo, the owner/manager tried to salvage what was left of my eyebrows. I was so pleased with her appreciation of my business, that I continued to patronize her salon whenever possible. That said, this review is NOT about eyebrow threading--it's about the henna application service I received. While I'm not new to henna application on my hair, I'd never had this service performed at Begum's. The day before I was to receive my service, I stopped by for a consultation, and spoke to Minoo, the salon owner/manager. She looked at my hair and quoted me a price, which was more expensive than I normally pay. At any rate, I called Minoo back the next day to schedule my appointment and asked if she'd applied henna to African American hair before and she said "yes." I asked her if she was going to be the one to apply it, and she replied "no," but said she'd be there when I came in for my service. I also told her that after my henna was applied, I was going to leave it on overnight, and then come back the next morning to have it rinsed out. And, here's where the proverbial wheel started to fall off the wagon: She had the nerve to ask me why I couldn't rinse it out at home!! WTH??? I explained I didn't want the mess all over my bathroom/shower. With all the money I was going to pay, me coming back into the salon to have it rinsed out should hardly have been an issue, right? So, the next day I showed up for my service and Minoo was NOWHERE in sight. She didn't so much as give me a freaking courtesy call to let me know she wouldn't be there. Two stylists were there when I arrived for my service. I'll call them stylists #1 and #2. I went to the back of the salon, where I saw stylist #1 mixing a vat full of henna that ended up being a gloppy, runny mess all over my head!! But, just to confirm, I asked stylist #1 if Minoo was there, or at least coming back and she said "no." I asked her if she was going to be the person to apply the henna to my hair, she answered "no" again and told me to have a seat in stylist #2's chair. By the way, neither stylist EVER introduced herself, and were incredibly unfriendly. To be fair, I didn't want to make snap judgments about the abilities of stylist #2 based on her personality. After all, I was there only for the henna service--no styling or anything else. Well, from this point on, I felt like a science experiment. Both stylists stood looking at my hair and slowly examining it as if my hair was diseased. My hair is thick, natural (no chemicals), and healthy. My hair was clean, dry, and conditioned, and I had slightly blow-dried it. I immediately got the eerie feeling something was amiss with stylist #2. She started tugging hair to the point I had to stop her and explain that my hair is natural, and it cannot handle all of the tugging. After about five minutes of her awkwardly staring at my head and periodically touching it, she finally got started. It was then clear to me she had never applied henna to African American natural hair. I thought I'd "go out on a limb" and ask her if she'd ever applied it to African American hair before and she (unsurprisingly) said "yes," BUT added that it was "well......umm......so much easier to apply on the other customer's hair because it was straighter." WTH?? Really?? Is it me, or is reasonable to assume that if you're in the salon business, you're familiar and comfortable with ALL hair types? And if not, let the customer know this up front!! No need to try to make customers feel that you don't want to be bothered or their hair isn't the "right texture" for your preference. Anyway I had to explain to her that my hair was in its natural state with NO CHEMICALS, and likely, the other customer's hair was RELAXED. At this point, I just wanted her to finish applying it so I could leave. I also told her I'd be back in the morning when the salon opened so she could rinse it out. She, (unsurprisingly) looked at me like I was crazy. Okay, so I showed up the next morning to have the henna rinsed out. Right after I pulled into the parking lot, Minoo drove in behind me. We actually walked in at the same time. She said good morning, but nothing else. She NEVER even acknowledged or apologized that she wasn't there when the stylist applied my henna. In any case, stylist #2, was at the front desk when I walked in. Please believe me when I say she was LESS THAN ENTHUSED to see me. She barely parted her lips to even say "good morning!!!" In the end, my hair color was satisfactory. The horrible, crappy, unprofessional service? Not so much. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS SALON!! read more

Service here is a hit or miss. When I got my underarms waxed, the lady left me with a dark scar. It may have been because the wax was too hot or she did not wax in the right direction. In addition, my eyebrows were noticeably uneven. I will not be back! read more

I've been coming here for 8 years even when I lived out of state I'd make sure to book an appointment for my time in town to get everything handled (though walk-ins are welcome and quick!). All the ladies in Buckhead charging $40 for brow threading and shaping most likely learned from the people at Begums. If you've never been threaded, be prepared to never go back for a wax again! The process is less painful (especially for dark haired ladies such as myself) and more accurate and the professionals at Begums know how to best shape your brows for your face and specialize in the full but controlled brow that is so popular right now. I went to this place today at 4:50pm on 8/1/19 to get my eyebrows threaded. I usually go to the one in lilburn off five forks Trickum. Anyways, this was my second time at this location. First, no one greeted me to to even say hello. But okay that's fine. I have never endured so much pain getting my eyebrows threaded. Let's be honest getting your eyebrows threaded can be a little painful. But this was not fun at all. Usually once I get up from the chair and look at my eyebrows I say whooo that was worth it because my eyebrows are awesome. But this visit that was not the case. Oh did I mention the lady the threaded my eyebrows CUT ME!!!! So now I have a gash under my eyebrow . I've gotten my eyebrows threaded for yearssss and this has never happened. Worst experience I have had here. As soon as I walked into the store, I was immediately racially profiled. I signed in, but waited over 30 minutes before someone could help me. Many customers came in after me and they were seated and got their services done, they also happened to be a variation of skin tone other than black. It was interesting to me to see customers who were white, Indian, etc served before me even though I signed in before them. And I am pretty sure they had no appointment. Finally, when I was served, I had to go up to the front and remind them, I was treated very poorly and I told them I wanted my eyebrows thick, to which they went on to thin them out very thin. When I asked them, to fix it they rudely demanded that I pay, threatened to call the police and promptly told me to leave. I felt misplaced and wrongly treated for the color of my skin. The oak road location is my favorite because parking is easier although traffic can get bad. All the techs sanitize their hands before your service and offer lotion afterwards which is amazing if you have sensitive skin like me. I have been coming to this begums location for almost 5 years now. It's my favorite spot to get my eyebrows done, however you have to be careful about who you get. Shanaz is my favorite she always takes off the the right amount,gives me a good shape, and is quick and friendly. Today when I went in she asked me if I cared who did my eyebrows, seeing she was busy I said no. A different women started doing my eyebrows. Right from the beginning I could tell I made a mistake not getting them done with Shanaz. This lady was working very very slow threading one hair at a time. Finally what felt like took forever, she was done and showed me the results. I was mortified to see she ruined my whole shape by making them too thin and botched up the front of my brows. my eyebrows are naturally very thick and have a arch and now they're thin and are not arched. They were not the same and uneven. I was so upset I cried on my way home because they're ruined. I told her they were uneven and she told me to lay back down but I said no you already made them too thin I don't need anymore taken off. Please be mindful of who you guys get. read more
