Before our trip to Maui, I posted in a local Facebook group looking for a photographer to capture some family sunset photos. Nicole was the first to respond, and she immediately began communicating with my wife. She answered all our questions and made the decision to book with her incredibly easy. Once we arrived on the island, Nicole stayed in touch--discussing possible locations, weather concerns, and the vision we had for the shoot. When the scheduled day came, the weather was awful. Nicole called us to reschedule, and we agreed to try again the evening before we flew back home. Unfortunately, that day brought two new challenges: a difficult family situation and even worse weather than before. We were completely deflated--disappointed, sad, frustrated, and unsure if the shoot could or should even happen. Nicole was amazing. She remained understanding, compassionate, patient, and completely willing to adapt to whatever we needed. As we stood in the parking lot of DT Fleming Beach in the middle of a torrential downpour--just an hour before sunset--Nicole encouraged us not to give up. She and I gently persuaded my wife to at least walk down to the beach and see if the storm might pass. We were already there, with nothing to lose. As the rain began to ease and Nicole started guiding us, what followed was nothing short of magical. She captured a once-in-a-lifetime series of photos that we'll cherish forever. Two rainbows appeared, and she photographed us walking toward them, with the vibrant colors illuminating our backdrop. As the sun tried to peek through the clouds, Nicole made the most of every moment--capturing stunning images that perfectly told the story of our family's resilience and love. Even after we returned home, struggling to decide which photos to choose and wanting to purchase more, Nicole's kindness and professionalism never wavered. We're absolutely thrilled with the final results. I can't speak highly enough of the way Nicole managed the entire experience--from before we arrived to after we left. Nicole was incredible from the start. It's overwhelming trying to find someone to capture your special day, especially when there are so many options for photographers. Nicole is your girl. She responded quickly to my initial inquiry. She stayed in contact and was extremely thorough with her instructions, recommendations, and knowledge of the island. We ended up going with Kapalua Bay, a beach that Nicole recommended for our vow renewal. It fit 13 people perfectly and had a lot of opportunities for a variety of photos. We ate at Merriman's afterward (make a reservation if you decide to do this!). Nicole (and her assistant) captured our day beautifully. She has a keen eye for light, landscape, and people. Our photos were ready for viewing less a week and a few days after our renewal. I didn't expect to see them for at least 3 weeks, so that was a pleasant surprise. Nicole has a variety of picture packages available and prices that will not break your bank. The packages are reasonable with a lot of options. I truly love the moments she captured and would definitely recommend her! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I would have appreciated a little more direction in certain poses. There were some pictures I looked hunched over or had a weird stance and I would have loved for her to tell me a little adjustment to do. I am not the best at getting my picture taken so I probably should have asked for her to be a little more direct at correcting something I was doing that looked funny. Did some research on photographers in Maui because I wanted to take professional, family photos while we were on vacation. Decided to go with Nicole and Behind the Lens because they seemed to offer exactly what I was looking for. Contact was mainly through email, but she is very quick in responses. With me being a very picky and indecisive person, I kept asking her questions about location preferences, top places to shoot, etc. She was so nice about answering my needs and even gave me tips on things to do and places to eat in the area. She was my ultimate Maui guide. Finally met with Nicole for our family shots and she was just as awesome in person than just through emails. We have a 21 month old who doesn't want to cooperate all the time, but she was super patient and just made our entire shoot feel like a family outing. Let me begin by saying that my (then) fiancé and myself were not your average casually-wealthy Hawaiian wedding. Nope, think of who in your circle of friends you would expect would be LEAST likely to afford a Maui wedding...Yes THAT couple. That's us. From the beginning, Nicole was beyond patient and very responsive (unusual with the typical lack of hurry particular to Hawaii). I initially emailed her MONTHS before my 9/24/2014 wedding as a referral from my fabulous caterer/wedding-planner-extraordinaire (that's a whole 'nother review). Due to lack of funds (#StoryOfMyLife) I *gasp* flaked on actually booking until literally a few weeks before the actual date. She was good enough to never mention my flakiness. In fact when I finally did get around to confirming, Nicole insisted on a full interview with me, expectations, family relations, any unusual bickering, photo ideas...I couldn't believe how thorough and professional she was. I felt like a million bucks. She had no problems cutting corners for me, and creating a package just for me and my fiancé. When the wedding went late (VERY late- no finger pointing but the groom forgot part of his suit), she stayed late for the cake cutting insisting that those pictures were priceless. I'm a believer, and I know that God was with us in that we were truly blessed by every vendor and especially by our wonderful photographer. I would not hesitate to recommend Nicole and company. I was planning to propose to my fiance on Maui and was looking for a local photographer to capture the moment. I had the venue selected at Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm so in contacting several photographers, many of them had a travel fee. After browsing the internet and reading some reviews, I found Nicole of Behind the Lens Maui. She had very competitive prices and did not charge a travel fee. Her website is very accessible and had lots of photos for me to view. Although we were doing an surprise proposal shoot and she could have charged me like an "engagement photo" session, she was very reasonable in offering me a "family portrait" package. We communicated via e-mail and phone for several months prior to the day. Because I live on O'ahu and had not had a chance to meet Nicole prior, she was so nice to go to the the Lavender farm to check out where I was planning to propose (the gazebo near the top of the property). I had been there before with my fiance and knew it was a special place. The afternoon of the engagement, we got to the farm about 15-minutes prior to closing (planned that way) and Nicole and her two assistants were already in place. She was texting me her status so not to tip off my fiance. Nicole and her assistant captured the whole proposal with two different angles. Then we spent about an hour taking photos around the Lavender farm which was gorgeous! After returning to O'ahu, Nicole was very responsive via e-mail about the photos and even paid for an 8"x10" photo. She was very prompt in sending me the photos from the engagement. They were very beautiful and she really captured the excitement and jubilation we were feeling throughout the property.
