My second one star review. The food and service are sooo average. With the exception of the hummus, I wouldn't go back. I ordered a shish tawook sandwich it was advertised as being chicken breast meat, pretty sure it was breast and thigh meat, certainly not a crime, but NOT what was advertised. I also ordered a side of onion rings; I questioned my server "are these made in-house, or frozen from a bag" she assured me that yes, they were made fresh. Seven bucks for onion rings, which is why I asked. Folks, I could have walked down the street to Burger King and gotten that same exact plate of onion rings for $2.50. When I pointed this out when she brought my bill, she mumbled some crap about "not knowing" when she'd positively assured me they were homemade. So one star. Questionably truthful about the chicken in the menu; lied about the onion rings to my face. But damn, their hummus is awesome, best I've ever had. Sadly it won't bring me back. read more

We've been coming here forever and we've introduced the food to numerous friends and family members. The food is truly very good. The lamb kofta, chicken shawarma, and hummus are some of the best I've had. However: Here's a recommendation: do NOT eat inside. It is filthy. The bathrooms haven't been cleaned in a decade. The sockets and baseboards are black throughout the restaurant. The worst? The kitchen. How do they pass health inspections? The last thing - and this goes so far in my book - I want to say to the owners is this: the two young ladies manning your front counter do not give a crap AT ALL about your business. They spent their time eating behind the counter then counting money then serving with zero hand washing. They gossiped, flirted, ignored people at the counter while orders were piling up. Do something about your service and cleanliness, Beirut. What a shame. read more

My last visit there was May 27 dinner time. I've eaten there many times over many years. Every time I land at Detroit Airport I have stopped here for a meal. The food was as good as I remembered. The service was not just awful but right down dangerous. The server refused to follow Covid CDC protocols even after the woman behind the counter and I asked him to at least wear the mask he had hanging around his neck. "I don't see why I should have to wear a mask", he proclaimed loudly and arrogantly. What about for costumer service? After that exchange he failed to refill my water glass even though I asked repeatedly and he intentionally ignored my table. If this is how unsafe it is in the dining area I can only imagine what goes on in the kitchen. So, not returning. I'm sad at the death of a long tradition but there are plenty of other great Middle Eastern restaurants in the area. read more

The service was excellent and fast despite it being very busy. I got the wrong salad given to me and they gave me my salad and the shwarma I ordered also bread and dip. This is 3 stars for some of the food and 2 stars for service and atmosphere. Was very disappointed to find one of our favorite places here had changed. I'm not sure if it's new owners or a new chef but it was definitely off. There was a young guy yelling back and forth across the restaurant to the young gal manning the phones and doing the take out orders. The guy would occasionally clear a table and set up a new one. The gal also was the server for the whole restaurant at the same time. The focus was that their private conversation -- inappropriately loud for a public restaurant -- not on the few diners that were there. And it showed. They were doing a big takeout business. And there was no personality in the order taking etc. not a thank you or any sort of courtesy. I had a kibbe appetizer. It came 6 to an order. It was fried as usual and fine. We also ordered a ground meat kabob that came with a rice pilaf. Without the added spice (sumac) which we asked for, it would have been flat and tasteless. Same thing with the salad that came first with the dinner. They put lots of feta on the salad which was okay but not usual in this Lebanese restaurant in the past. The food just wasn't as flavorful as it used to be. They also didn't give us any warm pita bread. One little plastic bag of thin pieces was on the table in a basket -- who knows how long. The most disappointing thing was that we asked for chai tea. The gal said said, "yeah yeah" when we explained to her what we wanted. We certainly didn't expect to get cups with Lipton tea bags in them!! After we asked, she said they didn't carry the tea that they used to -- but she didn't seem to really know or care. After coming here for years, I'm not sure we will go back. They used to be packed all the time. I think that soon if they continue their lackluster service without warmth, and so so food, people will find other places to go to... read more

Great food. I would probably give the food about 4-1/2 stars. The reason for 3 stars is because of the waitress. It was the worst service I've had in a very long time. She forgot to put the pita basket on the table, never said hello and didn't bother to come back to see if we needed anything. She was too busy sitting in the corner doing something on her phone. I ordered the Charbroiled Chicken... the half order (2-pieces) to be specific, along with almond slivered rice and a fresh salad which were options for the entree. In a little strip mall with planes landing overhead is the Beirut Restaurant. Super clean, great ambiance and very energetic staff. I had found it in a search through my hotel that listed "restaurants nearby". I was eating alone and sorry I did. I wanted to try more of the appetizers which looked amazing. I ordered the Shawarma platter which came with tahini sauce, garlicky yogurt and a very special rice with toasted almonds. There's no liquor, but you'll have an amazing selection of juices, tea and coffee. I had no room for dessert. Try the baclava and let my know how it is! We are from NY and found ourselves delayed by flight rescheduling in Detroit. It is not often that a restaurant exceeds our expectations, but the Beirut Restaurant way exceeded what we expected! My husband & I ordered the most delicious Lamb Shawarma and Chicken Shawarma with Hummus and vegetarian grapes leaves we've ever eaten, and the garlic sauce was to die for!! It is always useful to find a decent quick eating spot near the airport, as food costs inside as always expensive and unsatisfying. The menu choices are decent, service is decent and prices very reasonable. Visited only once, tried the falafel sandwich and lamb kafta sandwich. Wished they were warmed up (it was carry out), and the bread be a little firm. They were a bit generous with the sauce, so got a bit soggy, but no big deal. This place was absolutely delicious. We were welcomed into the restaurant by a very "mom-like" waitress who I assume owns or manages the place in some fashion. She takes you under her wing to make suggestions and does a great job of intermittently checking in on you as you munch away (often times pressuring you to finish what's on your plate - in a loving way). Found this local treasure thanks to you Yelpers! Small and unassuming, humble and friendly, tasty and filling. That's it in a nutshell. There is a lot of variety on the menu, and our colorful hostess recommended the combo platter for 2, which ended up giving us the full measure of the restaurant but unfortunately was way to much to finish although we did our level best. A variety of kabobs, falafel, stuffed grape leaves and more on a base of Arabic rice. Baba Ganoush was our choice of appetizer so my companion could try it for the first time. A generous amount of pita for dipping and eating. The service was very friendly and shared a bit about their backgrounds as we shared ours as well. We could have skipped the dessert because we were full but the fresh Rice Pudding called out to us and we couldn't refuse. Fresh, with honey and cinnamon, it was the perfect way to finish the meal. Would definitely return if I'm back in the area in the future! I did find it odd though that pita bread is smashed in plastic bags on the tables. The lentil soup is awesome, hot, flavorful, and perfect for my sick self. Tabouli salad was nice and bright, it hit all the refreshing green notes I crave. I've tried the lamb shawarma with hummus. The hummus is thin, not what I'm use to, but it was soooo good. A must try. Beirut is quite close to the airport and well worth a taxi/Uber ride if you have a long layover. Or maybe stop here before dropping off your rental car. I was very pleased with the meal here. Service from a super nice lady who could well have been my grandmother with the super attitude and the way that she kept bringing me more huge food portions. I had a hummus to start. A little thinner texture than I usually like, but the flavor was all there. Some hot pita to scoop would have been nice, but I lived without. Main course was a mixed shawarma platter of both chicken and beef. Piled high with rice too. Enough here for two people. Seriously. And the tabouli was awesome. Although we have previously had very good experiences with both dining in and carrying out, today's lunch was quite a letdown. The service was slow and it took our server an hour to bring out our soup and appetizers despite there only being two of us and one other single person in the restaurant. They might have had a rush before we got there because most of the tables hadn't been cleaned yet. The pita tasted like stale grocery market bread, the lemon chicken soup tasted like warmed up artificial lemon syrup, and neither the hummus nor the lamb had any flavor or seasoning. This poor place wasn't staffed to keep up with the dine in and take out demand. It was a full restaurant and lots of orders were coming in which is a great sign, but sadly it missed for me. I got the lamb and hummus dinner with a falafel and baba ghanouj appetizer. Dinner was supposed to come with a salad (it never came) and I was given rice when supposedly you could choose potato or rice. Normally I don't like rice, but it was quite good: buttery, with some noodles and fresh! The falafel was unimpressive: overall bland and very dry. The lamb and hummus dinner was decent, but nothing over the top. Portion size good, restaurant was filthy. Again they didn't have enough staff to keep the tables and drinking glasses clean. I couldn't drink my water because it looked like it had been a used glass. And I got a peek at the kitchen which looked worse for wear: completely wet floors with boxes and some garbage in the ground. It was a very busy night, so I want to cut some slack, I just lose my appetite when I eat in a dirty establishment. read more

My friend and I shared the beef shawarma plate, and still could barely finish it, there was so much food.
