They are terrible and they have actually closed their office without notifying patients and we never received the results of the sleep study! Just terrible. Need to figure out how to report them since they already charged insurance for the sleep study! read more

First of all, I'd like to say that the sleep tech who worked with me, Galina, was perfectly awesome. She's completely professional, kind and helpful. She's the reason my experience is three stars, and not zero. The facility is very disappointing. I've done sleep studies where the bedroom is made to feel like a hotel room, comfortable, quiet and dark, facilitating the best sleep possible. This is not the atmosphere at all at Bel-Red. There were no sheets on the bed, for a start, just the mattress cover, pillow cases (thank goodness) and a thin blanket. I asked the tech about this and she gave me one sheet, which I used between myself and the blanket, but there was no sheet on the bed between my body and the mattress (disgusting to think how many other patients had slept there with no covering). The room was warm and there was no way to adjust the temperature without doing so for the whole suite. The room was too light, as the curtains did not shut out the street light from outside and there was a lot of equipment in the room that also shed light. The room was not soundproof, so I could hear the conversation of the other patient as well as every foot fall near my door. To call the tech, there was a button that emitted a loud phone call sound, which I could also hear from across the suite when the other patient called the tech. Also, the one shared bathroom in the suite was down the hall. In previous sleep studies I've done, I was given an en-suite with a private bathroom and shower. Taking a shower in the morning after my sleep study was not an option, so I went home to shower, with the adhesive on my skin and in my hair. Again, Galina made my experience the best it could have been. She was solicitous, brought me the one sheet and tried to help with the air flow using an air purifier. All in all, I was very disappointed with the facility and will not do another sleep study at Bel-Red. read more

Looks like they may be under new management now which is great because Once upon a time they diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea and really put the pressure on me to buy some kind of nightguard device they were selling. Beause of the sales pressure I went to Swedish Sleep Center which my doc said was the only accredited sleep center in washington at the time. They said, "We have to retest you because these results make no sense. It says you have a sleep apnea incident every 50 seconds all night long but your oxygen levels never dropped." That's not possible, because oxygen levels are the very heart of apnea issues. Turns out I don't have apnea at all. I have restless leg syndrome! read more

Dr. Suresh Mereddy is extremely thoughtful and caring. He's very thorough and listens to his patients. He has a variety of methods of solving sleep apnea, and he works hard to find the best treatment to suit the individual patient. He offers in person and online evaluation's. I found the online evaluation to be extremely helpful since he has all of the data at his fingertips and he can easily show you what works and what doesn't. 5 stars! PS. I read some of the other reviews and I think they have this sleep center confused with one that is in the same building. Dr. Mereddy does not push any type of equipment onto patients and offers both in lab and at home testing. The at home testing was extremely easy provided tremendous data about my sleep without ever having to leave my home. read more

Positive: The staff was very kind and helpful when I had questions. Negative: I was told that I couldn't do an In-Lab study until I failed or had an inconclusive At-Home study. The reasoning they gave me was because my insurance needed proof of a failed test before continuing to an In-Lab study. I called my insurance to verify and they denied this claim and said I should be able to do in In-Lab study if that's what I desired. Overall, I'm disappointed that I was pushed in the direction of doing two tests when I could've/should've just done one. I returned the equipment before it was too late and was fully reimbursed (aside from the $50 consultation fee). read more

I worked with this office for a while several years ago, trying to treat my sleep apnea. I tried a mouth appliance, and that dried my mouth out so badly that it kept me awake. I tried a CPAP machine, and felt like I was constantly choking and unable to exhale, even on a very low setting. Eventually, I gave up. This week, I decided to try again with a different clinic which is much more conveniently located to my current job, and which has excellent reviews online. When the new clinic requested medical records from Dr. Chen's office, someone from that office left me a voice mail that said they have better mouth appliances now, and they would be happy to work with me. I didn't return the call, because I didn't see any point. However, the new office needed a referral from either my GP or Dr. Chen's office in order to be able to bill my insurance. The new clinic said it should be no problem, sleep doctors refer patients to each other all the time. But sure enough, Dr. Chen's office refused to give me a referral. I ended up getting one from my GP. But had I not been able to get a referral elsewhere, trying again to treat my condition with a different doctor would have cost me thousands of dollars out of pocket. I was dismayed that Dr. Chen's office outright refused to give me that referral, and said they "just don't do that; we can't refer to another specialist." The person on the phone did not give a legal reason or an insurance reason; she just kept insisting that they don't refer to other sleep doctors. read more

I saw Dr Chen over a period of several months after years of poor sleep and at the recommendation of my Naturopath. First, I'll say I'm not the easiest case. I am like the princess and the pea-super sensitive to even the slightest thing- so needless to say the cpap machine didn't work for me. My breath in didn't match my breath out and so Dr Chen got me using a bipap machine which he was able to set great but then I couldn't deal with the tubes. I am just too sensitive and too light of a sleeper. On several occasions throughout the process of finding what would work for me, Dr Chen suggested trying the sleep apnea mouth piece and for some reason I was resistant. He was very patient with me throughout the process and listened to my concerns. After many challenges sleeping with the bipap (despite it being set perfectly for my breath), I finally decided to try the mouth piece and I love it. He made the molds in office, sent them out to be made, made sure they fit just right (even having to send them back for me - being so picky) and I'm very happy with the solution. The office staff was also great with me, getting me scheduled and dealing with any billing inquires that I had. If your looking for a sterile medical office feel, this may not be the place for you. This is more like the old fashioned family doctors office - feeling like a well loved home business in a office building. Having grown up in the country with my family doctor being a home practice, this worked for me. I will say that everyone at the office seemed genuinely concerned with helping me find a solution to my sleep issues, which is what I was looking for. Thank you! read more

I can attest to the same billing issue - defective equipment rendered an inadequate test. I was billed in full and had to call and threaten legal action multiple times before this charge was resolved. This isn't really the whole of the issue. The whole of the issue was the poor hygiene and patient care on behalf of the office manager (also the owner - a serious WTF moment). He looked like he hadn't showered in weeks, wore soiled clothing, stank, provided the demonstration of the equipment in one of the sleep rooms where he had been watching daytime soaps before I arrived (where the tv was still on and the volume BLARING so I could barely hear or understand him, and had to ask him, TWICE, to turn the TV off. He seemed confused as to why it would bother me), was apparently preoccupied with patient cleanliness as he had an overwhelming focus on the practice shower facilities (I don't shower anywhere other than home, no matter how many times you tell me it's nice and insist all the patients shower in the mornings before leaving), pushed drugs I was not in the habit of taking to assure me I would have a comfortable nights sleep... Needless to say, I had the creeps before I became irate over the billing issue. So much I mentioned it to my therapist who validated my uncertainty by reiterating that someone who cares so little for the care of their BUSINESS (these concerns were also brought to Dr Chen directly when I decided to switch practices) likely has much less concern for the patients in their care. As the failed test seems to be a common occurrence, with the solution being an overnight at the clinic (which I was unwilling to do under ANY circumstance due to the bad feeling I got when in this practice)...it makes you wonder! However, I HIGHLY recommend the practice that ended up diagnosing my apnea properly and fitting my CPAP - the overnight there was like staying in a 5-Star hotel! I loved all the doctors, nurses, and medial assistants who I worked with for my fittings and reorders. read more

I decided to visit Bel Red Sleep after having poor luck in the Swedish and UW systems, it's a little out of the way for me since I live a little north of Seattle but it has totally been worth it. Dr. Chen and his staff spend time with you and really get into the different factors that are affecting your sleep. I'm pretty young and was admittedly a little shy about trying out a cpap machine when I had originally come in for insomnia and restless leg but the staff was empathetic and very good at explaining to me how it can help in a way that let me feel open to trying it. They have helped me to figure out what lifestyle changes I need to make for a better sleep (choosing foods with a higher iron content such as beef liver or hemp hearts) and I have left every appointment feeling heard and hopeful. They have a very patient friendly billing policy and are so much cheaper than other sleep centers in the long run. Dr. Chen works with you and listens to your needs, I can happily say that I now have the tools I need for improved sleep and my mood has drastically improved as a result. I would not reccomend any other sleep center and I hope more sleep centers begin to follow this type of practice instead of the typical "spend 15 and throw an expensive device at patients". 10/10 go here. read more

I too recommend staying away from this place. In my opinion, they're NOT LEGITIMATE. I was referred to this place by US Healthworks in Puyallup, WA where I got a DOT physical. Even though a sleep apnea test is not part of a federal DOT physical, USH required it before they would give me my medical certificate, so I was at their mercy. I met with Dr. Chen at Bel-Red who told me a little bit about sleep apnea, but not much. He focused on the sleep apnea machines and how I would get a significant discount on their machines over the price from other providers. We went through the questionnaire that I filled out about my symptoms and he didn't seem to be be very pleased and it seemed like he didn't believe me. I didn't really have the symptoms it seemed he was hoping for. I indicated that I felt rested in the mornings and did not wake up with headaches and did not experience fatigue in the afternoons and did not require naps and that I only only required about six hours of sleep each day. He questioned me over and over about these things. It seemed like he was trying to trip me up or something. I told him I was only there because US Healthworks required it before they would give me my medical certificate. His medical exam consisted of listening to my heart from chest and back and looked in my mouth at my throat. That's it. Then, his assistant David, proceeded to show me how to work the monitoring device that I would wear for a night (I found out later that David is the owner of the place). This whole thing was very suspicious and I felt uneasy about it. As it happens, I had to get an upper endoscopy and my first colonoscopy requested by my primary care physician within my normal medical group provider. Those were scheduled the next day. As any of you who've had a colonoscopy know, I had to drink the most horrible concoction the night before to "clean" me out. A gallon of it. And so that night, in prep for the next day, I did just that. Just before going to bed, I hooked up the sleep apnea monitoring device from Bel-Red just like David had shown me and went to bed. The stuff I drank made me so nauseated and of course I was being "cleaned" out as well, so I was up within 10 minutes and for the rest of the night. I didn't sleep a wink. I watched TV and worked on my computer to try to take my mind off the nausea. In the morning after more than seven hours on the machine, I figured if it didn't work because I was up all night, I'll just do it for another night. A friend picked me up and took me for my procedures and then to Be-Red to drop off the machine. Of course I had to pay them before getting my results and that seemed reasonable. What didn't seem reasonable was that I had to pay in cash only ($180 for consultation with Dr. Chen + $150 for the machine, $90 for something else, I don't remember) $420. At this point, my suspicions are being realized, but curiosity got the better of me and, if this did turn out to be a scam, I wanted all the documentation I could get. So, I had to go out and find a cash machine. I paid Bel-Red the $420 a got a receipt. I didn't tell them about my experience the night before yet as I needed to get the printed results; I pretty much knew what was coming. But, David supposedly downloaded the results from the machine and printed them for me and said that I scored a 7. He said that meant I stopped breathing seven times per hour. I let him continue. He pointed out on the results page where I had 92 snoring events and 12 obstructive apneas and a bunch of other stuff. Of course this indicated that I needed a cpap machine and what better place to get one but their discounted machines? As David started talking about the machines, I interrupted and told David that's all a neat trick considering I was up all night; I didn't sleep at all. As a horrified look came over his face, he tried to explain it away by saying that the machine couldn't tell if I was awake or asleep. I asked what difference does that make? I said the machine still says I stopped breathing several times and that I snored quite a bit - all while I was awake. He started to sweat noticeably and called Dr. Chen on the phone to talk with me. He tried to explain it away as unsuccessfully as David did. David offered me a only a partial refund. I declined and told him that I will be forwarding this documentation on to my attorney and I'll take it from there and I left. As to the relationship between Bel-Red and US Healthworks, I don't know - draw your own conclusions. read more

This s FRAUD. Office says DR Chen hasn't worked there in over a year - so I really suspect review from Jessica who says she's still seeing him? Possible FAKE review to go with FRAUDULENT BILLING? A year ago I wrote 1 Get your billing STRAIGHT Dr Chen! Stop billing for the other charges which have been paid. There are multiple reviews, about this billing issue. Employer refered and somehow this guy was the one referred to. Like the others I do not recommend him. Lack of effective communication on Drs part. Billing department is subpar. Read the reviews & make your own choice. The person you call to speak with Brianna, gets off the phone ASAP- don't trust it. And especially DR Chen why did you keep him so long if you knew what he was all about$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and fake ass billing. Issue resolved. I am so thankful for Dr. Chen and the Bel-Red Sleep Clinic. I haven't sleep well in years due to restless legs, snoring and having many trips to the restroom during the night. It took many nights to learn to sleep with the CPAP machine, but it was worth every moment. I'm saddened by the reviews here. I can only speak from my own experiences, which have all been overwhelmingly positive. For those wanting a quick explanation, the staff is extremely friendly and understanding, and in the 7 months I've been seeing Dr. Chen, he has always been extremely thorough, compassionate, and willing to solve problems. He genuinely takes his time with patients, which is something I can't say I've encountered much in my life. His personal experience with and devotion to treating sleep apnea is evident. As a more detailed run-down of my experiences: Costs were explained clearly to me before and after diagnosis, and I felt that Dr. Chen was considerate of our financial needs and of the cost of care down the road. I haven't received any unexpected bills or EOBs. There is some trial and error in finding the best treatment plan, because every patient has unique health and financial needs. Often chronic care relies on the patient to be their own advocate and choose options that are best for them, and to give the process time. Dr. Chen took more time to explain and ask questions than most doctors I've previously seen, and I was then allowed to make my own choices. Nothing ever felt presumed, and I didn't feel pressured. I was given choices, other referrals, and never left feeling like I wouldn't come back - especially because follow-ups were thorough, considerate, and genuinely helpful. I was referred to Dr. Chen for chronic fatigue and unproductive sleep, along with other symptoms that pointed to sleep apnea. The diagnosis seemed likely since my mother suffers severely from it. Sure enough, I took home the equipment for the overnight test, and the results were thankfully conclusive. Due to issues of handling, compliance, and indirect observation, at-home tests can be less reliable - I know this from working in vet medicine and it was explained to me before I chose to do the at-home test. If the results were inconclusive, I would then do an in-house sleep study. Following my diagnosis, Dr. Chen directly showed me the results of testing, spectrum of severity, and prognosis. I was given the option to pursue treatment. Considering my history and symptoms, I decided I wanted to try. I then had each option for treatment explained by cost and effectiveness, and chose to try a CPAP machine. It was difficult to find a mask that suited me, but I continued to look at different options, be honest if a mask I tried in-clinic felt uncomfortable, and adjust my sleeping space. Eventually I settled on a set-up that seems to be working for me. I finally feel like I've slept when I wake up in the morning, and can get out of bed and go about my day. I did also choose to try the mouth appliance to compare it to CPAP, since I also grind my teeth in my sleep and was hoping to kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately, I turned out to be one of the few who experienced TMJ pain + subsequent headaches following a month of use, so I am returning to my CPAP. Dr. Chen was very apologetic, and offered to alter the device so that it could be used as a regular mouth guard, which was really helpful of him. He spent a lot of time with me working on the fit, more-so than dentists have worked with me on appliances in the past, to the point where he involved the lab technicians to get it exactly right. So, I appreciated that instead of letting the appliance go to waste or leaving me to seek out a mouth guard from my dentist, he found a way to make the appliance useful for me. So, thank you to Dr. Chen and the staff that have been friendly, flexible, thoughtful, and caring. I am so glad I've found a clinic where I feel welcome, and where everyone seems to have the time for me as a patient. read more

Two years ago, my family physician referred me to the Bel-Red sleep clinic for testing for and treatment of sleep disorder. The overnight tests revealed sleep apnea. Dr Chen prescribed a CPAP machine. The clinic has been flexible in scheduling follow up appointments. Billing has been accurate, and the clinic provides by insurance provider with the documentation they need on a timely time . Most important of all, I now sleep through the night easily. read more

I wrote my original review BEFORE I received a bill for "services." Once I got my bill I had additional issues which the folks at Bel-Red Sleep Diagnostic Center (BRSDC) tried to pawn off as me just not wanting to pay. I have since reported BRSDC to the Better Business Bureau and to my insurance company. Here are some of the key issues: 1. On my first visit to BRSDC there was no effort by any of their staff to disclose the costs involved in the sleep test or possible subsequent treatment, despite the fact that their website specifically says: "We at Bel-Red Sleep Diagnostic Center work with most insurance companies and will verify all costs with you prior to scheduling your sleep study." 2. The sleep test device Dr. Chen sent me home with was defective. The device did not work at all until I put in my own new batteries, and even then it did not record an adequate amount of time. The first night it recorded for 2 hours; the second night, for less than 4 hours. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines recommend a sleep study length of at least 6 hours. 3. On my second/final visit to BRSDC, Dr. Chen either could not or would not clearly explain the test results so that I could understand the severity of my sleep apnea. Despite my repeated requests for explanation, he simply said: "You have sleep apnea." The following quote from BRSDC's response letter to the BBB describes the process as it should have happened: "Bel-Red Sleep Diagnostic Center are affiliated with several durable medical equipment companies (DME) that our individual patient can choose which company that they are qualified by their insurance and Dr. Stanley Chen will write the prescription needed and send to the DME company that the individual patient choice." In other words, Dr. Chen should have explained the test results, discussed my treatment options, and then written me a prescription that I could take to the DME provider of my choice. This is in stark contrast to what actually happened. Instead Dr. Chen immediately tried to sell me a CPAP machine without explaining costs or equipment options. He became agitated when it was obvious that I would leave his office without purchasing a machine. As I started to leave, he shouted: "You have sleep apnea! You need a machine! Sleep apnea won't go away!" 4. When I called BRSDC to complain about Dr. Chen's lack of professionalism and ask for a reduction in the billed cost. I was told I needed to speak to the "Office Manager," David Ilagan. David said that he could not reduce the cost but that he would personally re-do and interpret a new sleep test so I would not have to deal with Dr. Chen again. The interpretation of sleep test results is a form of diagnosis, which can only be performed by a licensed and certified physician. I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and David Ilagan sent a response letter to my complaint to the Better Business Bureau signing MD after his name. He signed: "David L. Ilagan, MD, CEO." The BRSDC website describes David Ilagan as their "Managing Director." David is NOT a doctor. Anyone using the title MD after their name in a healthcare setting is clearly claiming that he/she is a licensed practitioner competent to diagnose and treat illness. Posing as a licensed physician without the requisite training, certification and licensing is certainly fraudulent and is illegal in the state of Washington. The State of Washington Revised Code (18.71.011) says: "A person is practicing medicine if he or she does one or more of the following: Uses on cards, books, papers, signs, or other written or printed means of giving information to the public, in the conduct of any occupation or profession pertaining to the diagnosis or treatment of human disease or conditions the designation "doctor of medicine," "physician," "surgeon," "m.d.," or any combination thereof." Additionally, RCW 18.71.021 states: "No person may practice or represent himself or herself as practicing medicine without first having a valid license to do so." 5. Of the 21 sleep medicine centers listed in the Bellevue area, BRSDC is the only one that is not accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. In summary, I left BRSDC without a clear understanding of my sleep test results, with no idea of what costs might be involved should I elect to begin CPAP therapy, and without a prescription. I found the entire process to be confusing, frustrating, demeaning, and coercive. Because of my experience at BSRDC, I was forced to begin the diagnosis and treatment process all over again, at additional expense to myself. I contacted a legitimate provider, Swedish Medical Group, where I received professional care, with full cost disclosure up front, and am currently using CPAP therapy. read more

I STRONGLY recommend staying away from this place. This place tries to extract the most money out of patients with really helping them. Doctor Chen recommended c-pap directly even though the patients condition wasn't as bad. Doctor was reluctant to give the mouth guard even a chance and when requested said that the insurance didn't approve mouth-guard but c-pap which is hard to believe. The patient decided not to go for any one of the treatment and is completely alright without any sleeping aid instrument. I'm writing this review to help other patients going through the same ordeal and wasting time and money. read more

Stay away from this place. I went for a study of sleep apnea, and was handed the home set for testing. Original cost was $400 for a home study. Doc/Attendent said that we suggest keeping it for 48 hours, since it takes time to get correct reading - I did that and returned it after 2 days. when I got the bill, I was charged $800, $400 for each 24 hours. I visited Bel-Red sleep Diagnostic Center for my sleep issues and I was so surprised with a very professional service I received from the whole staff, prompt scheduling and not to wait for a long period of time to see Dr. Stanley Chen. All of my questions regarding my sleep problem were thoroughly explained, I underwent my overnight sleep study and it is good experience working with a sleep technician who assisted me during my diagnostic test. Regarding about the billings, I have a huge deductible and it seems my insurance will not cover anything about the service, but the billing personnel help me out and give me a good discount. I really appreciate the help of Bel-Red Sleep Diagnostic Center and the whole entire staff. I am coming back for my follow up and my treatment for my OSA. I received nothing but a very compassionate and professional care from Dr. Chen and Brieanne (staff). I could tell they genuinely care about their patients. My visits with them were never rushed; they took the time to listen to my concerns and questions. Dr. Chen is a very kind and caring person; for example, he personally called me on a weekend to ensure I was doing okay with my new CPAP after the first few days of my treatment. I also noticed that Dr. Chen tried his best to understand what I was going through and tried the best to optimize care on his end to reduce any extra burden on me. It was very encouraging to know that this type of provider-patient interaction still exists in healthcare today. I would highly recommend this private clinic for anyone needing diagnosis or c-pap machine for DOT license or personal. I was stranded for attaining a machine for my DOT license requirment and they gave me a next day appointment. The staff is extremely polite and professional. Had my initial appointment with Dr. Chen... He clearly needs to work on his English AND absolutely his listening skills...Not to mention he was asking me questions that I had already answered on their initial new patient paperwork. I was referred for chronic insomnia and his solution was to only sleep for seven hours and to go to bed and get up at the same time Ah Insomnia means I don't sleep. In addition, he said he did not prescribe sleep medication...I advised him I had seen a sleep specialist a few years ago and was supposed to do a sleep study at the hospital but my insurance at the time would not cover it... he didn't even acknowledge that after stating it several times. He kept saying that a sleep schedule works for his insomnia patients...??? I had to point blank tell him I am not his other patients...would never recommend anyone to go here EVER! read more

I was referred here by my MD and did an at-home sleep study. I had a consult with Dr. Chen, did the at home sleep study, and got the results back. There were three issues I'm unhappy with: the batteries they supplied me with didn't last the night, requiring a do-over with my own batteries. Second, Dr. Chen is just not very communicative. I had to really push him for more detail to get a sufficient understanding of sleep apnea and my own particular results. Final issue was billing: I was quoted a rough amount for the sleep study and follow-up, but was charged almost double that. I was able to get them to remove the extra charges on my account, happily. Ultimately, this was not a positive experience. I wish I had read other reviews of this place first, as my issues seem similar to what other people have described. I haven't directly tried other sleep centers, but I have to believe there are better options. read more

A rip-off. They gave me a sleep tracking electronic device to take home for 2 nights and charged $1,350 before even talking to a doctor. Yes, I admit, I have never asked about price of the service. But I never expected it to cost so much. I would understand a charge like this for a night actually spent in the center with a nurse monitoring you the whole night, but not for an electronic device rental. read more
