The guests whining about the food and service at Belden are missing the entire point: this is no place for a foodie or one who demands luxury accommodations. No red carpet treatment for snobs who think they're worthy bloggers here. If that's your jam and you cannot hang, then I suspect Belden does not want your patronage. Belden town is my favorite destination for camping, I've attended multiple camping festivals at this location and the river and views are absolutely divine. They have onsite general store for any needs you may have forgotten and a full bar ! read more

Definitely worth a detour off Hwy. 70 to enjoy a unique, historic location that serves delicious food and beverages. Candy, our friendly hostess and bartender, made sure we got everything we needed. Next time, I'd like to stay longer, in one of their rental cabins or rooms. read more

A quirky place. Belden Town is unlike anywhere I've been before. The landscape in Belden is great for family camping, but ultimately what makes Belden Town and Lodge Resort so unique is their lodge resort restaurant.The interior is full of historical randomness and the staff that work here are just as interesting. So, a Beautiful area of granite and Water...think Yosemite without the crowds....with a downhome staff that's knowledgeable and friendly, but not that fake friendly.( hey this is real Old school gold mining hydroelectric Power country; nothing fake going on here!) The staff try their best and I appreciate that but the hotel rooms smelled like a wet dog and the only food options were fried things or burgers. Belden is a small town radiating warm and comforting vibes as soon as you turn off the main road. The newly hired staff at the Belden resort are extremely kind and generous. I was pleasantly surprised with how social and communal the little town was. My group was camping right down the road from Belden so we stopped in town frequently to make calls and grab food/drinks. We were sad to leave at the end of the week and will definitely be coming back again. Fun stuff happening @ Belden Town! Especially for the Sunset Campout. The weather is about 100 degrees man. It's July 18th. 11:30 AM: I have a bottle of Malbec in one hand and two water guns and my friend has 2 liters of vodka in the other. We're heading to Feather River just after eating a nice breakfast of eggs, toast and fruit hopefully delivered by one of the local farms to the restaurant. Listen Belden is a diamond in the rough. Outdoor dining only at present. Stopped for lunch. Deck was pretty full when we arrived but thinned out within 20 minutes. However, service was awful. We sat at our table for 15 minutes before a waitress stopped by, then another 15 minutes for ice tea. Waited over an hour for two burgers which were greasy with tasteless potato salad when they finally showed up. No condiments brought to the table, and when I asked for some, waitress returned and threw a couple of packets of salt on the table. The excuse was that large parties were ahead of us, but those folks left way before our food arrived. Place seems under new management and it's not a change for the better. It's only about a 2 hour drive from Sacramento, it is very beautiful and scenic drive up Hwy 70 through the Feather River Canyon, if you get motion sickness these roads twist and turn so I recommend taking some anti-nausea medicine. My fiance and I were looking for somewhere (anywhere) to get out of town and spend a night elsewhere. Belden Town seemed like a place to start. It's off the beaten track for sure. I think we picked a bad weekend to be there because the manager was celebrating his anniversary with a bunch of his friends. It's no exaggeration to say that the place was virtually shut down to paying guests. We were hanging at the restaurant bar to get a salad and I had to get up and flag a waiter to get service and then flag the same waiter to pay. It was a big hassle and it's weird to feel guilty when you are asking for service at a place that advertises service. Anyway the free buffet and kareoke for all of the party guests and the singing went long into the night. Also there was a brawl or something at one point and one guy left in a hurry. We weren't expecting an upscale experience. We understood that the wifi was out of the question and that this would be a cabin, not a hotel. That was in fact the purpose of the trip. Having said that, the bedsheets were ripped (by a dog, we think), the toilet hadn't been cleaned, and none of the kitchenware was safe to use. Just really pushing health codes in every way. What's the point of having a kitchen on vacation if you have to clean it? I know that place has had some glory days, but they are long gone. Save your money. Keep driving. read more

Been here twice in the winter. Make sure you wear full ski or cold weather gear. All 4 of us had hats, jackets and scarves, we damn near froze. This was New Years Eve Afternoon 2016 There were possibly 4 others in at the bar. Drinking, not eating. We ordered 3 Cheeseburgers and fries, 1 chicken sandwich and fries. It took nearly 45 minutes to receive the food. Then we had to eat as fast as possible, to keep the food from freezing over. This may be a small town with few people but friendly may not be a word to describe the guys well into their NYs at noon. I have MS and while I walk just fine, I may fall if all is not steady. I got up to go the bathroom ( first time ever I've seen steam come from the toilet. It was THAT COLD) My family were wandering near the tiny wood stove about 20 feet away. I went to sit down and the wobbly table and chair sent me right to the hard wood floor, hard! My family were too far off to see me but the locals never made a move to offer to help. They just took another swig off the bottle and ignored me. The food is good and if u like rustic and old, this is it! I think we will eat elsewhere...... read more

Belden Town has been a family tradition for me since I was a small lass. Not much changes and I get the feeling not much ever will. That's the beauty of this hidden gem in the sierras. While they do host some pretty killer music events on an off weekend you can ride up and find Belden doing what it does best just chilling in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Situated on the banks of the feather river, Belden is steeped in history and you need do nothing more than get out of your car to begin your journey back in time. Old stage coaches and Dr. Beetlejuices magic medicine show carriage litter the backyard and a tepee sits next to a totem pole on the green grassy knoll. An old gold mining town that used to house a brothel, a bar and a gold changing station looking down the main road you expect a stagecoach to come turning around the corner any minute. There is a huge bar with a wrap around deck overlooking the river, and the locals here are some of the warmest people you will ever meet. They serve 3 squares here, although most of the time there is only one person in the kitchen running the bar and handling incoming guests. So if your in a hurry or expect some kind of specialty catering act you might wanna go back to the city. Food is great, in a mom just made it kinda way. Stacked high sandwiches, perfectly cooked bacon and eggs, and steaks for dinner. The cabins are quaint, some with views of the river and relaxing decks. They sleep a sizable group and are easy on the wallet. Perfect for birthday group trips or just taking ten of your favorite people on an adventure. The music events are always killer, I recommend checking them out if you get the chance. In addition to that there is always hiking,fishing,gold panning, rafting, kayaking, swimming and many other activities to entertain yourself with here. Belden is actually on the pacific coast trail so you'll see hikers coming through from time to time. Interesting hike trail stories abound. There's rumors of a beaver in Belden town but I wasn't ever able to spot it. But its been told that if you wait around the discarded apple pile right about sundown, a giant beaver will appear out of the forest. Never a dull moment in Belden Town, I never want to come home whenever we visit. A must see for any traveler through California. read more

Just got back from the Priceless music festival at Belden Resort. Very nicely done. A big crowd but no so overwhelming for the lodgings. Yes - kitchen service is slow. However, use this time to chat with friends, watch the river flow by, play a game of pool, practice your piano playing skills, or even improve your ping pong game by challenging one of the local champions. If you see Ivan, make him an offer for the entire property. He knows everything about the region and is related to the original Belden homesteaders. Menu is limited, the beer is cold, and the TV carries all the major sport channels. The town dates back to California's gold rush. Enjoy the local history and scenic river overlook. Belden Town is a great value and a ton of fun, but I can see where it would NOT work for everyone. Why? I'll review the bad first - the cabins are definitely a bit shabby (we called them shabins) and the property has a couple dilapidated buildings on the premises. The cabins were definitely clean, but simply not made for luxury use. For example, you'll probably need your own pans/utensils for any serious cooking. Finally, in the restaurant, your food can take a little while, since there is usually one cook on hand. If you're familiar with most of the properties in the Sierras, then this probably doesn't shock you. That said, if you're looking for a low key place to hang out close to the Feather River, this place rocks. The cabins have large porches overlooking the river or a creek and full kitchens. The bar is great and funky with strong, cheap drinks and all kinds of odd memorabilia on the walls. The restaurant food is great diner food (burgers, omelets, chicken-fried steak). The staff is really friendly and a lot of fun. The beach is small, but fine for most purposes and the river location is very pleasant. Plus, you're close to other fun sites like Indian Falls and Lake Almanor (we went to both in a single day). All in all it was a low-cost way to spend a low-key weekend. Belden Town, frankly, is our once-a-year escape from the Greater Sacramento Area. It's one of the few chances we get to really let loose for some fun adult camping in the mountains. And at this point, a camping trip anywhere else just wouldn't do the trick. The drive is about two hours, passing through Marysville and the Plumas National Forrest along the way. The last thirty minutes are spent traveling alongside the Feather River. Even at the height of fire season, it is a wonderful drive with an amazing view (the last half is at least). Belden has many features. Aside from hosting several music festivals throughout the Summer, they have cabin rentals, RV hookups, a general store, a restaurant with full bar, working bathrooms with hot water, showers, and more than enough room to camp. Additionally, they've been renovating and building what appears to be an on-site hotel. But if you want to rough it, you can camp out along the county road which heads up into the mountains. Early August weather in Belden is never above ninety degrees and makes the nearby Feather River beach that much better. We spend almost the entire day down at the water, and if the sun gets a little too unbearable, head back to shore where it's nice and shady. At night, the temperature drops significantly, around sixty degrees. Jacket weather, definitely. My one complaint is their restaurant. Their service is just unacceptable. One year we had to get up and get ourselves coffee. When your order is finally taken, you're waiting over twenty minutes for your food. As one camper said, 'fifteen minutes for a BLT?' Don't expect anything groundbreaking here... we're talking the basics: bacon, eggs, omelets, burgers, sandwiches, etc. Though the diner is a glaring problem that needs fixing, Belden is more than accommodating. If five-hundred guests showed up on my doorstep, I'm sure I'd fumble once or twice too. Moreover, the restaurant could not even exist and it still wouldn't stop me from showing up every year. Apparently zero stars isn't an option, so I had to give them one. Stopped there for lunch today and the service was ATROCIOUS! As Jon from Sacramento noted, beyond slow. So slow that we finally left before getting our food. The waitress was rude beyond belief, obviously preferred that we didn't order and made our wait so unpleasant that we just left, not a problem for them as they hadn't begun preparing our food after 30 minutes. I will never return, there is a nice little cafe 2 miles up the road at Caribou, nothing fancy, but they treat you like family. There are numerous other lake and riverside resorts in Plumas County where the food, service and ambiance are ALL wonderful. Do yourself a favor and avoid Belden. read more

Stopped for lunch a couple of months ago. Walked in and was handed two menus and we said we would be out on the patio and the gentleman said he would tell "her". After 15 minutes when no one came out we left. There were only 4 people at the bar so I have no idea what the problem was. Have been there before and while it does take a while to get food it was good. Even the campground was surprisingly empty for a holiday. Bathroom was a mess so maybe short handed. My boyfriend and I, as well as a great handful of friends, go on a motorcycle run for Labor Day Weekend. My boyfriend and I always get there the Friday before so that we can get Belden Town to ourselves before everybody arrives the day after. This year we decided to book a cabin to make our travel a little bit lighter on the bikes. Meaning, we didn't need to pack a tent, air mattress, kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, camping gear, etc. Because the cabin was going to have that all, right? Friday around 2pm comes, we hangout at the bar, grab a bite to eat, and just simply relax on the patio after our long motorcycle ride there. Cory, who is the bartender/manager, gave us our keys and sent us on our way to cabin #5. From a far we were pretty stoked, but once we started to walk up the stairs we were greeted by wasps. We shared the cabin the whole trip with these wasps, these wasps were also determined to come in and spend the night with, us which was fun. The air conditioning units were small and old, which was fine, but because they were just stuck into the windows there were major gaps with nothing filling them so, bug city. Anyway.. Friday night, we decided to go to finally go to bed after eating dinner at the bar, which the cheeseburger does not disappoint, got back to the cabin and instantly laid on the bed. I would have rather slept on a lot fire pit than the mattress that was offered in our bedroom. I even woke up after finally falling asleep, and thought I had fallen asleep on a slab of cement. There were stick on jewels still stuck to the comforter, probably from a previous festival, as well as a cigarette butt under the bed near my feet upon waking up. After waking up, one of my favorite things to do is shower and feel awake for the day. Main reason for getting the cabin because camping does not allow you to do so. My morning showers were not something I could partake in unfortunately on this trip due to the mold that was on the shower.. I honestly could go on and about our cabin experience, but lesson learned the hard way. Just camp. I would have never been disappointed with Belden if we would have just stuck to camping. read more

Just stopped In for lunch today from a camping trip. I had a great burger. The cucumber Bloody Mary was the best I have had in a very long time. Our waitress was super friendly and helped us immediately. Food came out quite fast. It was a interesting place with history. If you're ever tooling along the north fork of the Feather River canyon on Hwy 70, then you MUST stop to play horseshoes, soak in the scenery, and eat, drink and be merry at this unexpected respite from the surrounding wilderness wonders. Cross the bridge, and cross into a separate time zone that is Belden Town ... the resort cabins and lodge accommodations surround a sizable and museum-like bar that opens onto the deck facing the river. The restaurant serves some of the best onion rings (I recommend the Club sandwiches!) and will stick in your gut and memory for years as you wonder why and when you shall return. read more
