Everything about Sierra Sky Lodge showed the host's friendliness, creativity, attention to detail, and hard work in providing a cozy "home away from home." Our cabin #6 was decorated and stocked with a hundred thoughtful touches. The linens were luxurious and every surface was spotless. Breakfast service was truly remarkable, from the first cup of delicious coffee to the homemade bread, fresh fruit, and yummy egg dishes. I look forward to returning with my wife, who was so jealous after seeing my photos. This was my first visit to Plumas County. Autumn colors made it especially stunning. What a special lodge. The people who own it are absolutely amazing! My husband and I stayed one night right before the High Sierra Music Festival. Our room was spacious and clean. I slept like a baby in the bed and I can go on and on about their breakfast. They make the breakfast from scratch every morning. It was delicious. AVOID. This place is uncomfortable and overpriced. No ice machine or microwave and the bed was very uncomfortable. The internet service is terrible. The owner will also enter the room against your wishes and move personal items around as she sees fit...it was honestly one the strangest and creepiest things that has ever happened to me at a motel. For my 50th birthday, we had gotten a room near Bucks' Lake so that I could celebrate my big day by hiking the PCT. With the COVID-19 crisis going on, you'd think the proprietors of this unnamed place would take basic measures such as wearing masks while in the accompanying general store, and not mocking those who did. But no. And because of that, we found ourselves looking elsewhere. While it was a bit of a drive, it wound up being well worth it. Sierra Sky Lodge was like a person helping you with a flat tire who thought of bringing pizza and beer with them. Well, not quite that literal, but it could just as well have been. Well-organized parking spaces. Comfortable rooms. Free breakfasts with nice fruits and breads. A well-looked after swimming pool. A wonderful host. A reasonable price. Friendly people as other guests. Spacious back area with plenty to do for all times. In spite of the heat, we found ourselves very comfortable. Maybe we'll go there even if there isn't a specified 'special occasion'. read more

Super cozy, low key place right in the heart of nature. We stayed here for my husband's birthday weekend, stumbling upon it after a mishap at another lodging. It was like discovering a best kept secret that offered no pretenses. However, what it did offer was a quiet, clean room, a delicious home-cooked breakfast, and grounds that offered a variety of activities. There rooms come range in sizes, with 8 total. Some have a kitchen and living room with an outdoor seating area. Some, like ours, are perfect for those that need a place to lay one's weary head with the basic amenities (fridge, tv...etc.). The grounds offer space for an outdoor barbecue, for a fire at night under the canopy of trees and stars, for outdoor relaxation on hammocks, and for the kids to play (play structure, basketball area, and volleyball court). There's also a perfectly sized pool with lounging chairs to soak in some sun or swim. While under the current restrictions due to COVID19, the place seems to have made smart decisions to make the site feel safe. Their usual breakfast room is available for seating but the buffet breakfast it used to serve is now put into individualized baskets. Wendy, the owner, is quite friendly and willing to make the breakfast basket according to one's diet. She also wears a mask and has signage to remind people to respect the distance. She also has a great knowledge of the land around and offers suggestions for hikes and walks. We felt safe enough to stay two nights here. All in all, it was a great experience. We'd definitely go back when we're back in the area. read more

I don't even know where to begin! Our stay here was unbelievably horrific! They were extremely unprofessional. We were absolutely mortified by their complete disregard of the "Do Not Disturb" signs on our doors, invading our privacy and entering our rooms without consent, as well as touching/moving our belongings without permission. That's wrong on so many levels! Moreover, that's illegal! They also left passive aggressive notes on our beds, expressing all the "things" they did not like about the condition of our rooms, and I must say our rooms were extremely clean and tidy, except for a dirty dish or two, which they decided to move from one of our rooms to another with a kitchen sink. In one of the letters written to my coworker, they suggested going through the back door to my room to use the kitchen sink was an acceptable solution to washing his dishes in his bathroom. They have no qualms invading their customer's privacy. And I think that suggestion really highlights that fact. They are also extremely over-priced for not having all the basic amenities a lodging should have. With the exception of the two rooms with a kitchen, none of the rooms had microwaves. There were other huge deficiencies! They also had extremely spotty internet and reception, which made it extremely challenging communicating with our work and more importantly, our loved ones. They also will charge you a $50 cleaning fee regardless of the state your rooms are in because they want to charge people hotel prices without actually doing the work involved in running a lodging business. I would highly recommend not ever staying there, unless you don't mind them invading your privacy and try to passively exert a trifling control over you. That place by far provided the worst lodging experience I have ever had. They are an abysmally atrocious business! Oh, just wanted to clarify, I give them zero stars! read more

I stayed at Sky Lodge while attending golf school and really enjoyed the hot breakfast every morning that was included. Every morning a different kind of quiche-style hot dish was served ... just great. My room was very nice with queen beds and lots of pillows. The fridge kept the chardonnay cold to treat sore golf muscles. And the ceiling fans in both bedroom and kitchen were a real plus. read more

Just spent 5 days and 4 nights at this wonderful family style B and B. We had never been there before and found them online when looking to get away for a few days without going a long ways away from home. We had a great room with a full kitchen and two beds. The breakfast was super with fresh fruit, homemade quiche, muffins and breads. Their pool is good and there are play areas for children. They are located between Portola and Quincy on Hwy 70 in North Eastern California. If you like lakes and fishing this is a great area for it. It's only about 70 miles west of Reno. We will definitely be back. I think they are open from about May to early November or end of October. read more

The beds were extremely comfortable, it was hard not to stay in bed except there was a complimentary breakfast we just couldn't miss between 8am-10am in the common room. Everything about our stay was wonderful. You don't find this kind of personal hospitality very often. Room was Exceptionally clean.

A cosy little spot, nicer than a motel by a long shot, but not too spendy. Wendy, the owner, is very friendly and laid back. Fresh baked muffins in the morning, home made quilts for extra warmth, and a very nice shower all contribute to the homey atmosphere. We got lucky because on Sunday morning two of the other guests got together and played music and sang. We sat in the sun drinking in our coffee and the sweet mountain air. read more

We came on a business trip and decided to stay at the Sierra Sky lodge. It was GREAT! I usually cant get any sleep unless it is on my own bed, however the beds at this lodge was so comfortable. I cant remember even remember the last time I had such a good night's sleep! Felt like a Tempurpedic! The hospititality couldnt get any better! We woke up to a delicious breakfast in the common room. I booked a two night stay at the Long Valley Resort, which is the sister place of Sierra Sky Lodge. Wendy was very nice on the phone and accommodated the guests for our friend's wedding. We checked in on a Saturday at Sierra Sky Lodge to get our key for the motel part of the Long Valley Resort. Both places are not that far from one another, maybe about 5 mins. Wendy also provided home cooked breakfast for those that stay in the motel. It was so worth going to Sierra Sky Lodge for Wendy's delicious breakfast. Long Valley Resort has cottages as well. The motel room was very accommodating. Since we had a toddler, Wendy noted to place us in the handicap room since that was the only room with a bathtub. Of course if there was a guest that is handicap, we would gladly give up the room. There was a TV, fridge, coffee table (coffee maker/coffee/tea), towels, A/C, shampoo/conditioner and info book. Since the wedding didn't start at 4:30pm on a Sunday, Wendy suggested some places for us to do in the meantime. Thanks to Wendy, we went on a hike to Frazier Falls and took a drive to Sardine Lake. If we are ever in this part of California, we would surely stay at the Long Valley Resort again. read more

I love this place. I have stayed here once/year since 2006, as my kids go to camp in Portola. So my ritual is to drive up, sometimes with another kid and her mother, sometimes just with my daughter, and our annoying dog, and arrive at the lodge before dark. The kids swim and play on the playground. The other guests are always friendly and interesting, and Wendy is a great hostess. (Breakfast is included and very good.) The cabin is really comfy and we always feel well taken care of. If only the restaurant a short walk down the road were better -- due to the dog, we take out and eat in the cabin. read more

When you go to rural areas this is exactly the kinda place you want to stay. Rustic feeling but clean and pleasant. Includes direct tv, pool, and outside games for your pleasure. There is even some wifi access if you need to check your email, because AT&T phones don't work well in the area. As well there are a few nice golf courses within 15min. The owners are amazing and very accommodating it feels like you are a house guest with new friends. And to top it all off you get home cooked breakfast in the morning. Our cabin was a very charming and tasteful blend of natural pine and color palette with a cloth covered dining table, roomy closet, and fine hospitality tray. While easy to access just off the road, the lodge gives you the feeling of being in the woods and is surrounded by forest with a backyard lounge and play area. Top quality bed and extra bedding, super clean room and bath, CoVid safety precautions are practiced here and we felt confident in the protections and sanitation. Wendy helped us get oriented to the area and find a great restaurant for our anniversary dinner. She prepared a breakfast basket of egg casserole, homemade bread and fruit that we picked up at the front and took to our room. Great coffee !! The quality of the room and delicious breakfast made this place great value for the price. We want to come back, stay longer and explore more of the area nearby. read more

Just returned from a fabulous two day get-away at the Sierra Sky Lodge. We had attended the Taylorsville 4th of July rodeo, and were so delighted to arrive to our cozy room. Wendy ,the owner is a true angel. She explained the near-by eateries and sights to visit. After a restful night sleep, we were truly amazed by the excellent home- made breakfast. Delicious Quiche, fresh fruit, blue berry muffins, French toast bake, banana bread, yogurt, hot oatmeal. plus cereal. Wow, we were full clear to dinner time. Wendy even gave my thirsty companion fresh ice from her fridge for his five o'clock cocktail. She obtained prime 7 o'clock Tuesday dinner reservations at Cuccia's. The view from the outside deck was stellar, combined with superb Italian cuisine. We even had the delightful presence of Wendy's daughters Gracie Yates and her sister serving us at the dinner.er service. Above and beyond customer service. I see all these great reviews and I think it's just been some time for any update. We arrived mid day and the person who checked us in, failed to give us our room key, unit was unlocked, no instructions and messed up informing us on how the complimentary breakfast works. I was told it would be delivered. Ok so there are some mistakes, I wasn't aware until the next morning after breakfast. The room smelled like weed a bit and the furniture was torn in many places on most items. I get that it's an older cabin type but it was lacking the charm with all the upkeep that it's been lacking. I would say maybe due to COVID it's been some time and just haven't gotten around to the minor upgrades or corrections. Bathroom seemed a little better but the floor was uneven and it kind of gave you vertigo... super cute and that type of thing going on up there. I hoped they had explained a little better how it works, they don't accept Amex too btw. We actually left a day early and just strayed the one night. read more

I am blessed to count myself among those who have benefitted from the generous hospitality of Sierra Sky Lodge. On my way here, sometime after 9pm, I pulled over to call Wendy, the owner. She was a gem. She was happy to hear I was okay (she knew I was on a motorcycle) and fine with me not getting in until after 10pm. She also mentioned she was praying for no deer. Which moves a motorcycle mama's heart. When I arrived here 10:30pm, she was there to meet me in the driveway. I was a tired, aching wreck, and I asked if my room had a tub or if the motel had a hot tub. She said no, but she would let me use a tub in an unoccupied room if I wanted. Then she told me there was only one other couple staying here that night, and they didn't want breakfast, so she would just bring it straight to my room in the morning, and what time would I like it? I wanted to kiss her for her kindness. When I got to my adorable, cabiney room, it was faintly illuminated by Christmas lights, and a much-needed warmth greeted me when I entered. There are no phones here, certainly no cell reception (with AT&T, anyway), and spotty wireless if you sit right next to the office (which turns out to be the pool area, which is perfect, or the breakfast room, which is cozy). You check in here, you check out of everything else. When I made this reservation, I really had no idea what I was doing. I found it on Yelp, and it seemed like a sweet family-run, country motel, way up in the mountains, and it was on my route. I don't know why I was impelled to reserve this for four nights; I just did it. And I didn't know how therapeutic it would be to have unlimited moments for thinking and not-thinking. I am so, so grateful I made this reservation. The thing I love the most here is the air. It is intensely aromatic with the smells of mountain life. At daybreak, the clean, promising fragrance of greenness, and as the day warms, the heady scent of hot pine needles in the sun. In the evening, when I look up, I am surrounded by towering ponderosas that hover over me like powerful bishops, and beyond them, a cathedral ceiling of stars. I am instantly right-sized. Wendy brought me breakfast two days in a row, because I was the only guest having breakfast. (The breakfast spread here is righteous, by the way - homemade, fresh, and lots of protein.) On the second day, she lingered a little, and we got to chat. She told me the story of how she and her husband Wayne came to own this place nine years ago, and how today, they have five beautiful children, three scraggly but affectionate cats, and three good dogs. If you want something fancy, please don't come here - you'll ruin it for the rest of us, who see generosity of spirit as a priceless commodity. read more

AMAZING HOSPITALITY!!! On a recent fishing trip, we tried out SSLodge. Facilities we rustic and very clean. The owner, Wendy, was so friendly on the phone and even friendlier in-person! Such a sweetie. Made us feel welcomed. As their hospitality house was under construction due to winter's water damage, Wendy would deliver a DELICIOUS home-cooked breakfast sandwich with juice, fruit,snacks,etc. in a little basket. Very clean and quiet place along Hwy 70 in the northern Sierras. The breakfast put together was very good, definitely had a homemade feel to it. My only suggestion is that the wifi coverage be extended to the rooms. There is basically no cell phone service in the area so without the wifi (only available in the breakfast area) you are back to the 1990s. Which isn't exactly a bad thing, but having wifi would be nice. read more

We just returned from our outing to Graeagle. This was a welcome surprise. This is not a fancy place but a perfect, cozy place. The owners are very nice and you get a wonderful home cooked breakfast each day. They allow you to use their phone to call anywhere in the U.S. and are very helpful in getting you a place to eat dinner or somewhere to hike to. I really liked the cozy feel and the relaxed atmosphere. It was nice to sit out on the porch with coffee in the morning! read more

(the name escapes me) If you have kids who still go to the park to play, this is an excellent place to stay. They've got a large play structure out back for the kids (including the owner's kids) to play on. Don't come expecting lots of extra amenities like phones and wifi. What a fabulous place. It's like luxury camping. We had a wedding just down the road so we ended up renting 3 cabins for 4 days. The rooms are affordable and have everything you need - many with kitchens, patios and bbq's. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a small baggy of complimentary chocolate covered pretzel bark in our room upon arrival. All of us who stayed have children and I can't imagine a better place for them. There's a pool, a play structure, basket ball, volleyball, badminton and at the end of the day they will supply you with all the wood you need to spark up the fire pit and roast your smores!! The best part is really the people who are running the place. It's a family business and you can tell that they do this because they love it. They were always available to help us out with our needs. Every morning you walk over to the breakfast building where you are treated with tasty home cooked meals. My 2 youngest children are 3 and 9 mos. so after I got them fed I could eat in peace because they have a great little play area in the room stocked with really cool wooden toys and lots of books. On top of all that - Wendy (our host) made sure at check-in to find out if any of us had food allergies or preferences so she could further accommodate us. Our mother is diabetic and each morning Wendy made her a special dish to suit. The great service continued even after we got home. Wendy called to let me know that they had found one of my baby's shoes under a bed and that they wanted to send it to me. I just can't say enough about this place and the wonderful family that runs it. I hope we make it back that way so we can stay again. read more

I am writing this review while sitting outside of the recreation room at the Sierra Sky. This place is right along a lightly traveled highway. I was just going to spend a night, while driving through, but found this gem of a place and decided to give it another night. The owners are amazingly friendly and caring. Wendy helped me plan my day, find good hiking trails and hot springs in the area. Definitely worth staying another night. If heavens allow, I will come back next time around! About the rooms: the room is clean and dry. The beds are comfortable. Has a coffee maker, clean cups, tea, coffee, TV. Reservations are not needed, they take drop-ins. About the property: there is a small heated swimming pool, a makeshift volleyball court, a makeshift basketball court, a fire pit, and a playground. The trees are thinned nicely, so there is plenty of sun exposure. read more

We stayed in what I think is the largest room - Cabin #1. It had a great fireplace, full kitchen, etc. The owners are very friendly and made sure we were ready for the cold weather - how to use the heater and the fireplace! We ate at the restaurant down the street - we walked - Trattoria Rosa - very good. We were the only people staying in the lodge - whaddya expect for being miles from any big town in January? Place is clean, nothing fancy - but we had a blast together there - me and my family. read more

For quite a few years now, four with my parents and five with my own family I have enjoyed the pleasantries that this region has to offer. Being from the Bay Area it seemed like everyone went to Tahoe as did our family until a neighbor told us about Graeagle in the summer of "75. Our family never looked back at staying at Lake Tahoe and for five wonderful summers we stayed in Graeagle. Thirty years later, now with my own family, I enjoy it the same way I did years ago. Graeagle and the lakes basin offer hiking, golfing, bicycling, horseback riding and just plain relaxing among its many pine trees. The elevation here is high enough to enjoy cool evenings yet not too high where its too cold as one may find when they wake up in Tahoe. We discovered the Sierra Sky Lodge about six years ago, and absolutely love this place. The place is not fancy but its more than adequate for a nice short stay. Wayne and Wendy go out of their way to ensure that your stay is a wonderful one. The entire family is great, including their dogs and cats who greet you as if they were your own when you arrive. One piece of advice: Stay in a unit that has a kitchenette. It really adds to your savings when you can cook your own meals, rather than eat at the local restaurants. Oh, BTW breakfast is really good :) If you're in the area of Graeagle, take the extra nine minutes and go north on I70/89 to this place. Stay here, even if only for a few days. This is our family get-away spot. It's safe, clean, and comfortable. Aside from the walls being rather thin (between certain rooms) and the roar of an occasional logging truck down Highway 70 at 6AM, this place has all the comforts of home in a drop-dead gorgeous setting. Close to Graeagle, Quincy, Portola, Beckworth, Johnsville, and Blairsden, Sierra Sky Lodge is our base camp for hiking in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area.
