Really got a skin crawl type of feeling. They gave me a marketing form and called it a medical form. The front desk accidentally gave me a surgery intake form. I had to remind her I was there for a cleaning. My hygienist asked me about insurance several times. I don't know why her quality of care would depend on that. The only reason I can figure is she wanted to recommend non medically needed treatment so that she could bilk the insurance company. Either that or she gave me inadequate care. read more

DO NOT GO. They were bought out about 2 years ago and their care has plummeted since. I recently broke off a piece of my molar and was told without hesitation that I needed a crown, and needed to pay half of it that day. I went and got two other second opinions, both of which said I only needed a simple filling. $30 later my tooth is fixed and I saved $700 and a huge pain in my butt. Never going back. read more

Absolutely the worst ever. Fillings failed leading to a crown when a crown from the get go would have worked. Billing said we have not submitted your claim so ignore the bills until submitted to insurance, got collections notice....to my wife (not a patient) because she is my "emergency contact", which apparently is billing code for guarantor. I recently switched from a chain dentist to Belknap Dental and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was in the process of switching when I needed emergency care. Belknap got me in quickly, and assisted me with a hole in my tooth and fitting for a crown. I've had crowns in the past and this was THE BEST fitted crown and experience I've ever had. Had a CAP prep done. The tooth was left too high for a month while cap was being molded. This picture exhibits the head, tooth, and mouth pain from the tooth trauma not properly leveled for my bite. It was a foreign dentist on a visa from Russia and believe he did not have experience in leveling. The procedure took twice as long as expected. My dental assistant had tattoos all over her arm which I don't observe as a professional appearance for a dental office or any medical facility. Word of advice: never do business with a company that do not give their last names its reason to hide their identity because they have unethical accounting practices, practitioners and administrative staff. read more

In December I missed a cleaning. Belknap decided to charge me $40 for the missed appointment. Disappointing considering how much of my time they have wasted. I had a $24 credit, that they applied leaving the balance at $16. I called to apologize and book a new appointment. They told me I had to pay them $16 before they would book a makeup appointment. Not a great way to treat a 7 year customer. I had not missed appointments in the past. I have had them call me and cancel my appointments in the past without concern for my schedule. I have also had them tell me my appointment isn't the day that it says on the card, it is the day that it says it is in the computer. I have a new dentist....I won't miss this business. read more

Brought my son and daughter there for orthodontics. They glued a bite plate into her mouth that wasn't fitted properly causing a huge sore in her mouth. We would show up to appts and they would have no idea why we were there. My daughter went through the full 2 years of braces and we were just told by another ortho that she needs to go through another 2 years because her teeth are all wrong. My son was made to wear head gear and a bite plate...he was 8. After almost 2 years of fighting with him to do this, we asked Dr. Lee if there were any alternatives, she basically said no and that he had to wear it. The new ortho Dr. we are seeing is using springs on the braces to fix his underbite. So after using up all of our ortho benefits on a Dr. that screwed up my daughters mouth and did nothing for my son, we now have to pay out of pocket for another orthodontist to fix what she messed up. Terrible communications and bedside manner, and questionable quality of care. We tried to become Belknap Dental patients but they dropped us after my daughter had already had 3 visits! Maureen, the office manager, left us a sticky-sweet voice mail saying that she has found another orthodontist for my daughters to see. I can't say that I'm upset about it because our initial two orthodontist visits left me with many questions and feeling awkward. WHY the breakup, you ask? Maureen said that it was for our convenience, but I have a better guess that it was because I asked too many questions during my daughter's consultations. First of all, my daughter had an appliance in her mouth that was placed by her previous orthodontist (we recently moved to the area) that needed to come out. Dr. Lee, the one and only orthodontist at Belknap Dental, extracted it, but she looked awkward in her motions, took forever to get the appliance out, and did not seem comfortable around my daughter (barely any conversation or eye contact, along with excessive and oddly timed questioning about my daughter's comfort level) . Furthermore, when giving her assessment, Dr. Lee took a longer-than-normal amount of time to communicate her plan of care, and I had to push her to give me any details beyond the fact that she would like to have impressions and X-rays done. I thought that she most likely had just graduated with her degree (she looks young) and that she is still getting her confidence and footing in he field. But when I asked Maureen, the office manager, how long Dr. Lee had been in practice, she shocked me and said 8 years! I definitely have higher expectations for manual skills, bedside manner with children, and ability to communicate a plan of care for an orthodontist that has been in practice for 8 years. Secondly, things got weird quickly with Maureen when I asked her gently why both she and Dr. Lee had mentioned repeatedly (2 times each) that the initial orthodontic consultation would be free for our family. It was they were shoving the marketing down our throats and it was getting kinda awkward--I was left wondering if we had been the lucky winners of some secret contest that we were not told about. "Are we special?", I asked. "No, you're not special", said Maureen, and that initial consultations are free for all families. Then she proceeded to spew marketing mumbo-jumbo that lasted for a minute or two...and it didn't make any sense. Awkward. As if that were not enough, I was not pleased that we had to make a special trip to Belknap just to get impressions and X-rays done. Why could those not have been done on the same day that we saw the orthodontist? The answer is that Dr. Lee only has one tech working for her, whereas at every other orthodontist office I have ever been to there are several techs or assistants working so that routine things like impressions and X-rays can be done on the spot. No need for an extra visit (which is 20 minutes of driving for us each way, plus a 10 minute wait in the waiting room). Then the most awkward thing of all was getting the voice mail that Belknap Dental is breaking up with our family. Not only did they recommend a different orthodontist for my daughter that had the appointments with Dr. Lee already, but they also canceled my other daughter's orthodontic appointment for next week, which would have been her very first visit ever. My two daughters have already seen the dentist for cleanings at Belknap Dental and I think that went reasonably well (my husband accompanied them and he had no complaints). I am not sure if the dentist is also breaking up with us?! Overall, if you see Dr. Lee for orthodontics, expect that she will function like a new practitioner--I honestly can't evaluate the quality in depth because we did not get a chance. And if you have to deal with Maureen, expect to be confused, disrespected, and frustrated. read more

I had horrible experience at Belknap Dental and I will not be back ever. I tried Belknap Dental in the Spring of last year and my hygienist, Heather seemed very angry the entire time (probably because she was working there) as she was cleaning my teeth. She also stated I had a cyst in my mouth (now I have NEVER felt a cyst ever in my mouth nor was I in any pain) and even convinced the dentist I had one. Now six months later, I come back and I get a new hygienist, an older woman (forget her name). She was incredibly condescending and rude regarding the "cyst" in my mouth. She continuously complained I didn't have old dental x-rays that they could compare my current x-rays with. Now I didn't have dental insurance for many years so I wasn't able to go for awhile. I explained this to her, when she once again rudely interrupted, "Well you had your wisdom teeth out! Where did you go to get that down? You didn't get it done on the street did you?!" I then explained to her I was originally from Connecticut and it'd been 10 years since I got my wisdom teeth out and I had no idea where I had them removed. She then stated, "Well your mother would know. Ask you mother." At this point I was SO annoyed so I said, "Sure." Throughout the visit with her she constantly said, "Don't forget to ask your mother where you went for your wisdom teeth." SO condescending!! Meanwhile, this woman just drove me crazy in general but the "best" part was when she discussed flossing with me. Now every dentist does, but this woman went above and beyond by physically flossing my teeth (roughly and rudely I might add) all the while seeming very, very rude and once again condescending. I could not stand being there, so that was my last visit. My boyfriend also went and had a similar experience. He had to get some cavities taken care of and instead of mentioning the difference in price between silver and white cavity fillings they just asked him what he wanted (who would chose silver?) without mentioning the $200 difference in price (even with insurance!) It was absolutely ridiculous to have this bill and for them not to mention the out of cost fees. Lastly, they harassed us for over a week (mind you this was in a week) to pay our bill. They even sent letters during this time as well. My boyfriend also said BEFORE he went to the dentist his teeth were fine, didn't hurt, etc. After he went and got his fillings, he said he constantly feels a numbing pain in his teeth. He stated the the dentist seemed to be using old tools & practices. Horrible! So yes, Belknap Dental we paid your stupid bill but we will not be back. You are an extremely money-driven company who has no respect for the comfort and care of it's patients. By the way, Belknap I DO NOT have a cyst in my mouth, as my new wonderful dentists (Associates in Family Density) pointed out. If you actually knew you were talking about. read more

I went in expecting the same type of service and, instead, I was greeted by a team of professionals that conducted a thorough exam, actually discussed my concerns and goals for my dental care and was attentive to my needs. I truly felt "heard" by the team that included a hygenist, dentist and orthodontist. The cleaning was painless and pleasant. An issue with a crooked bottom tooth was discussed between my dentist, the orthodonist and myself. We agreed on an approach that took into account my personal concerns, cost and time. On the whole, I couldn't have imagined a better transition and would highly recommend the practice to anyone unhappy with their current provider or seeking a dental practice.
