In my casual search for the best small town hamburger experience, I drove the 45 minutes to try Bell Buckle Cafe's version. I had read many reviews about this small cafe and the many who enjoyed the home cooked menu items. My experience was very disappointing. I arrived just minutes after they opened and was number six to have a seat and yet my hamburger order took 25 - 30 minutes to arrive. Fries are extra which seemed odd. The bacon cheeseburger was just a bit larger than a slider. It was shockingly small. Though it was advertised as a 1/3 lb, it was a bit dry and so small. The bun was fresh and tasted good, but even with piling all the fixings on it, it had a slider experience to it. Ketchup and mayonnaise came in the fast food packets that you have to squeeze and the ketchup for the fries came in a plastic small container. I paid the typical $15 for burger, fries, and sweet tea as I do in all the locations. I would not recommend this place for their hamburgers. read more

Had a wonderful lunch today at Bell Buckle Cafe. This is good Southern food, nothing fancy. I had the chicken fried steak with black eyed peas, twice baked potato casserole, and sliced tomatoes with feta and balsamic. My wife had the chicken pot pie with green beans and fried okra. Everything was fresh, hot and served very promptly. To top it off we had the homemade oatmeal cake with caramel sauce. It was yummy and the highlight of the meal. Service was very friendly. The dining room is pretty small. If there's a wait, it will be worth it. The other highlight was the beautiful drive through the Tennessee hills once you leave I24. Bell Buckle is a nice little town to visit. read more

This little cafe is right south of the twilight zone, it's a few block passed Wally's Service Station in between Floyd's Barber Shop and the Drug Store - I jest of course but if you blindfolded me and dropped me off on the side of Webb Road I'd be on the shoulder waiting for the Darlings to drive by to hitch a ride into town so I could catch a bus to Mount Pilot...seriously this is way country, the food here isn't served, it's dished up. The selection of food is amazing they serve both comfort food and food that will make you extremely uncomfortable after you clean your plate, believe me there's reason the front porch is wide here - no kidding macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y'all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come w/ gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed and you'll never leave here hungry. I had the chicken fried steak with country gravy, white beans and ham, macaroni and cheese, a roll and a quart and a half of sweet tea all I wanted was a nap - it's true you might find yourself waiting on a table but once you're seated the service is outstanding. When reviewing any restaurant one must take into consideration the ability of the establishment to live up to the expectations in relation to the value of the food and the personality of the service. Walking in the door we had high hopes. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. Small town cafe advertising down home comfort food. We drove over an hour to visit Bell Buckle and to have lunch at the cafe based on previous reviews. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. The sign on the wall says "we serve comfort food" but honestly it should read we serve over priced cafeteria food. While the menu prices seemed average or even reasonable, they can be quite deceiving. The Hickory Burger says 4.99 , but what you get is a very small burger drenched in an off putting sauce. Think of the small cheap buns at the grocery store and a burger that doesn't even fit that space. Top it with a hunk of lettuce, not shredded, just an awkward hunk of lettuce made specifically to allow maximum slidage of the other toppings. This would all be acceptable for $5 but add $2.29 for an embarrassingly small amount of crinkle fries and another 2.49 for a sweet tea and your meal becomes over priced for a below average burger. Which brings me to the next item, the chicken fried steak meal. Now nothing is more comfort food than a good chicken fried steak. Many chain restaurants such as Cracker Barrel and Texas Road house pull off this standard acceptably. (and BBC charges more for theirs than the places mentioned) Unfortunately for my daughter what she received was more akin to school lunch than down home. A pre made, breaded processed beef patty from a box. Tasteless gravy over sub par meat and bland cornbread pancake turned out to be what we all agreed reminded us of school lunch. The green beans were just canned Italian cut seasoned green beans. I'm almost sure I can name the brand (Allens). So minimum effort at a maximum price. The meal ($12) with a drink was around $15 for something you could replicate with a $3 frozen meal. So you might think the service is what garners such praise from all the positive reviews, but on our visit even that was lacking. Not bad mind you, but just not there. The server stopped by twice for drinks but there was absolutely no personality to the service. None of that small town cafe charm. Just going through the motIons. On our drive to Bell Buckle I had high hopes of a four to five star down home southern cafe experience, and while the atmosphere suggests such a place it ultimately comes down to the food and service. In these areas both were below average. My reviews consider three stars being average, and though it pains me Bell Buckle cafe , I cannot grant stars where they were not earned. Stop by for grandma's home cooking in a quaint, southern cafe. This bustling restaurant located in historic Bell Buckle, TN, serves a variety of home-style foods (ranging from burgers, sandwiches, chicken, pizza, and meat n' three). The inside is nothing fancy, but walls are lined with autographs from music royalty (we were seated beside a signed Dolly Parton portrait). The wait time is always lengthy, so arrive early or prepare to kill time. We had a 45 minute wait for 2 at 1:30; however, there are plenty of antique shops and boutiques located in the same plaza. The waitstaff was stellar (friendly, hospitable, and hard working). I got a pulled chicken sandwich with macaroni and my mom got roast beef with fried okra-- everything was delicious and fresh. We also decided to get dessert! We left with full tummies and smiles on our faces. Bell Buckle is a perfect day-trip for the whole family. We were there on a Thursday for lunch, you would not think that it would be crazy busy in May, and it wasn't. We waited five minutes for a table. We waited for over 45 minutes for our food and went and got to our table it was cold. Nothing like cold chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with white gravy to make you feel like you will not go back. They offered to remake it, we had already waited 45 minutes. Their excuse was they had a lot of carry out orders. Really, all they need to do was carry our food from the kitchen to our table. They comped me for the chicken fried steak and potatoes and charged me for my corn nuggets and jello. I wasn't looking for a reduced lunch, we drove from Nashville to have a fun experience. This is going to sound crazy, and I just don't care anymore. The entrance to the Cafe is ridiculously difficult for older people to navigate. I understand that the step is bowed in the middle because of all of the people who have passed over it, but 1) it's high, 2) the screen door is too tight to hold back with an elbow, and 3) this means you don't have both hands to deal with the insanely heavy inner door. Many of their clients are 50+, and I'm astounded that more haven't fallen trying to get in or out of the place. Crazy disregard for their clientele. The food is quite good, but their not having done anything about that stupid door in all of these years infuriates me. read more

Been eating here for years. If you are ever needing a pit stop between Chattanooga and Nashville, this is you spot. Today we stop for lunch and it did not disappoint. The chicken pot pit could have had more chicken rather than the potatoes but all in all it was still a good lunch. The service is great, the prices are fair and tea is sweet & cold. Bell Buckle Cafe? More like, "Belt" Buckle Cafe...because you'll be adjusting your belt a notch after you leave here! Came here on a Sunday afternoon, right when they opened at 11am. We were seated right away with no wait. We were lucky we arrived so eary, because after about 11:30, there was a pretty decent wait-time to get a table...and it was non-stop after that as the church crowd was arriving. Food came out very quickly. I had the catfish filet , which came with THREE sides! My sides were mac n cheese, turnip greens, and creamy coleslaw. Overall, good tasting meal! Oh, and I had a bite (or three) of my friend's carrot souffle. That was yummy! I was intrigued when I saw "grits cake" on the dessert menu, and had to try it! Glad I did. My family has eaten here several times now and it's been spectacular every time. Service is always friendly, we haven't had to wait long any of the times we came (perhaps because we have had a large group), though I understand sometimes this place has a long wait. The food tastes just my grandmother was in the back cooking away, rest her soul. My top choices are the turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried corn, and vinegar slaw. Macaroni and cheese and chicken tenders is generally what my kids choose and they love it. My dad and husband tend to get the chicken fried steak with gravy and it looks delicious. Try the blueberry gelatin topped with cream cheese and nuts, as you won't regret it. The desserts look absolutely delicious, but thus far I've never had enough room after a meal to try any. Come on of course I had a five star experience, it's Bell Buckle y'all. I was told ...everything was made in house. Since I was going to a catering event, my parents and I needed a place to chill for about an hour. So we came to this little quaint cafe, that was full to the gills with both locals and tourists like me. I only have two four words: Grits cake with coffee!!! The waitresses, the cashier, the cooks, were so delightful, and as you leave they have a variety of Moon Pies. Bell Buckle is famous for their Moon Pie festival, so I bought like $10 dollars worth. It was nice because they had banana, salted caramel, and strawberry. They also have a small area of Bell Buckle goods to sell, like hot sauce, salsa, and pickles to name a few. read more

This was the first restaurant I've been to in six months and I enjoyed it. A three-hour wait on the Interstate (caused by a carjacking/murder) spoiled our planned trip to Chattanooga, so we went to the Bell Buckle Cafe for solace. The wait was short and our waitress, Amy, was great, Tables are separated and all staff wear masks; at my advanced age I do not want the "prevailing disease" and was glad to see that. The food was excellent; I had about the best cheeseburger ever. I like the way that all extras are placed by the burger in the basket and you fix it that way you want. My blackberry cobbler was good, too. The wait for food was long - nearly an hour - but,I don't blame Amy, rather the kitchen. We saw other tables come in, getserved, and leave while we waited. I know that place packs them in and I liked it and would return. I do think the men's bathroom could stand a redo. The ladies' had a long line. Space is limited there, I know, but... Great place for the best of country comfort food in a restaurant! I am still having trouble trying to order something other than the smoked chops, they are that good. Last night, I tried the smothered chops because they are not a regular menu item and a friend recommended them. They were great! Extremely tender, good sized chops with a savory gravy with mushroom pieces in it. As great as they were, I am going back to my smoked chops next time. The sides are good-sized portions and you get three sides with a dinner. This is enough for a normal person to wind up too full to have dessert. However, try to save room because the desserts are also good! I got the new potatoes, cuke and toms salad, and fried corn for sides. Ate everything and didn't have room for dessert. There was live music with Emilee and Big Mike and I believe they perform once a month. The restaurant is in little Bell Buckle and there are antique shops and an ice cream store at the location. Recommend getting there early on Friday or Saturday nights or be prepared to wait a little bit for seats. read more
