This is an Italian restaurant right on the beach in the Villa Del Palmar resort in Cabo. It is quite a large location with a rustic theme and in the morning they serve a traditional buffet breakfast. Five of us came here for dinner and had an assortment of cocktails along with different Italian dishes. We thought the cocktails were good and the Italian food was very good. This is a restaurant on the property of the Villa group hotels. It is easy to get to with the trolley or you can simply walk even though we were staying at the Villa Del arco. It is not a long walk. This place is pretty casual, although you will find that a lot of people get dressed up. The reason we came here in the first place was because they have a real outdoor pizza oven which they make all of their hand tossed pizza. I have to say the pizzas definitely did not disappoint and surprisingly enough where is big is a plate and more than enough to share with two or three people. As expected, be prepared that since this is on the resort property, the prices are significantly higher than if you walked 20 minutes into town. Service was quite slow, but we found out that that's the norm here at the hotels as they do want you to take your time. We did not order any alcohol is our group really didn't drink alcohol much, but always order the bottled water. Hopefully the menu pictures help as well as the prices to put things into perspective. We had leftovers from all three of us and we're able to eat the next day for lunch, which was just as tasty as it was the first night. read more

Bella California was one of the restaurants at the Villa Del Arco. We went there few times for breakfast and once for dinner. They have the same variety of food for breakfast as El Patron but the service was so much better here. Staff were friendlier. As far as the night time when it becomes an Italian restaurant, I thought it was okay but dessert were good. We had salad if I recall, also had the Alfredo Pasta which was okay for me. We had the Lasagna and I would give it 4/5. Overall for breakfast was good but for dinner I would say 4/5 read more

I only had the breakfast buffet but I was never left hungry or unsatisfied. They keep a lot of the same items but they do switch out a few every day to give you some different things to try. Everything was pretty fresh even though it had to sit out due to being buffet style they kept things on ice or heated. The bagels and bread however did taste a little stale. The first day they had these breakfast potatoes that were AMAZING. I was sad to see they didn't have them again any other days that we were there and only had hash-browns which were just okay. I put some salsa verde & cotija on them one day and I'm not sure which but one of them had a funny taste that I didn't really enjoy, I think it was the cheese. Overall, good buffet with a lot of choices and they change out the meat options daily. Also, there is an omelette station and they do a great job! Located in the Villa del Palmar resort, Bella California overlooks the Sea of Cortez and a view of the famous El Arco rock formation, and the food and ambiance gives new meaning to Molta Bella! Bella California is actually the main dining room at the Villa del Palmar as it serves as the outdoor breakfast buffet in the morning as well. The ambiance during dinner time is really nice as not only do you have the great view accentuated by moonlight and the waves crashing below. Be forewarned, you're out on their stone-based patio right by the pool which was filled with about hundred people just a couple of hours ago in tandem to sitting what is basically iron wrought lawn furniture. We managed to get a late evening reservation for our group of five because we were not only guests of the Villa del Palmar, but as an all-inclusive resort we decided to purchase the all-inclusive meal plan which gives you all you can eat for no additional cost because you already purchased that in your meal plan. Upon being sat, our server only brought us three menus, which light up which is convenient because it's really dark out there and you're basically dining by moonlight. The food at Bella California specializes in Italian cuisine from the Piedmont region of Italy. We decided to go all in with our appetizers and ordered a ton of them to see which ones we liked the best. So we opted for their Bruschetonne, Calamari Trifolati, Fritto Listo di Mare, Insalata Caprese, Funghi Trifolati, and for good measure, the Bella California, Pepperoni and Margherita Pizzas. I suppose you could say we were famished after a long day of activities. This was on top of an entree in which I ordered their Ravioli di Granchio in Brodo, which was their ravioli made with a delicate crab filling served in a seafood based broth, potato and celery puree, and mussels. In hindsight, I'm glad we ordered so much because our server got a little behind and eventually brought our meal over the course of over two hours. I loved the pizza we selected which was topped with mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, ham, cherry tomatoes and arugula. The appetizers were fine, with the Funghi Trifolati, which were a variety of mushrooms sauteed in garlic, chili flakes, white wine, parsley and butter served with two slices of grilled sourdough being a real standout. My crab ravioli entrée was extremely rich and a little too soupy as it was served in a bowl style plate overflowing with too much sauce or rather gravy. Others in my party ordered the Bistecchina which was the flank steak, or they ordered pasta as varied as Mac and Cheese, Penne pasta and the Fettuccine with scallops. I washed my meal down with a lovely house Merlot. Since we were there for such a long amount of time, we were wary of ordering dessert but still went with Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, and for good measure an Éclair. We had a solid time at Bella California, despite the long wait time for our food and some dishes being hits and others fair misses, you cannot deny it's a beautiful destination for a memorable Italian meal. It's the wood-burning pizza oven that did it for me as we loved our one pie so much we returned to order to-go pizzas an evening later to enjoy in our room. It's just one of the benefits of ordering the all-inclusive dining package. Bella California is a wonderful place to end a long day of activities you can do in Cabo amidst the soothing warm air and the gentle sounds of the crashing surf below. read more

Look, I know that reviews are completely biased, and might sometimes be unfair because they are based on one visit in most cases. For this restaurant, the only reason I am giving it two stars rather than one is that the Bella California's pizza DOUGH was passable. I never thought I would say this, but there was actually too much prosciutto on the pizza, and a prosciutto/arugula pie is all about moderation. This excess pretty much exemplified the rest of the dinner. The fettuccine alfredo was pretty awful, and the vegetarian pizza was literally littered with vegetables and pretty much killed the ratio of toppings-to-pizza. The Neapolitan pizza dough is actually pretty good, but the kitchen needs to work on tastefully applying toppings, rather than reaching into the bin, grabbing a fistful, and slapping as much as they can onto the pie. Perhaps the most unmemorable part of this was the service, or lack thereof. Our server was in la-la land for the entirety of the dinner. We asked her three times for the bill, and finally our party had to stand up at the table, and then she came running over. Perhaps other people have had better experiences here, but I had to post this one because it was quite terrible from start to finish. The view is this restaurant's saving grace; but even with that, I would not recommend this to anyone who is either staying at one of the three adjoining sister resorts, or certainly not for people who are making a special trip to dine here. read more

The primary reason it's not getting 5 stars is because of the pricing - it was pretty expensive at ~ $55US per person for a main dish, dessert, and to share an appetizer (and 2 bottles of water). The appetizer (mixed tempura seafood+zucchini) and both of our main dishes were excellent. My friend had the ossobucco, and I had the fettuccine with chicken. For dessert, my friend had the affogato which was a cool show (flaming drink pour) but the actual taste and quality was mediocre. If you are staying here I highly recommend coming here for dinner, especially around sunset. You have such amazing views and its perfect for a date night. The waitress was very attentive. Considering the fact that it is in a resort and near the pool they have a ridiculous dress code and will not seat you if you are in pool/beach wear. It makes total sense for dinner but during the day it is inconvenient to have to change your clothes to eat lunch. The service is REALLY slow. At dinner we had to wait 30 minutes with a reservation to be seated then another 30 minutes to get bread. Once you pass that hurdle then things are relatively timely. Dinner at Bella California is beautiful! We had the all inclusive deal but from what I saw the prices were fair. All of the items we wanted to order were not premium items so that was nice. Most of the sit down dinner restaurants on the resort do require reservations so plan accordingly. We asked for ocean view and had the most wonderful view as the sun was setting. The food tasted okay. Because it wasn't extravagant Italian food. But it was great for hotel quality food. My favorite thing was the fried calamari appetizer. It was so fresh and flavorful. I would recommend eating here during your stay. They even have a pizza bar throughout the day where you can order pizza without a reservation. Their pizza is delicious and was pretty much all my husband ate. The service at Bella California and throughout the resort was immaculate. You feel like royalty. Please don't go here. Save yourself the time and money. The chessboard cheese had sat out for who know how long and was in that weird melted but not melted stage. The chicken Parmesan had a really weird texture to it and tasted like the chicken sat in a cardboard box for years. The Osso Bucco tasted like rib roast, the Beef ravioli had a weird gravy to it, and the Ferris was the best entree by far and not even near Olive Garden standards. The mark up on wine was 3 times market value regardless of Us or Mexico origins. The desserts were even worse. The pannecotta was so old and thick it tasted like a messed up toothpaste, the tiramisu tasted like straight coffee beans, the connolo was a weird nut paste. They were rude, slow, and messed up half of our orders. They didn't apologize. They just walked away. The food was not very good, but it was the service that tilted everything over the edge. We won't go back. It was so awful that I never want to give them a second chance. If you choose to eat here, please follow these tips... 1. Eat before you go to dinner. It's going to take about an hour before you get your first course. 2. Bring your own beverages. They will not refill your water glasses, or ask if you want a refill on your drinks. 3. Be prepared for a 3 hour meal. It's not a fine dining set of dinner courses. It's just a regular Italian restaurant that takes 3 hours to get your food. 4. Do not order any special modifications to your food. Don't order extra sauce. Don't order gluten free, dairy free, or any other modification. They won't get it right, and then it will take an hour to fix the problem. Basically, it's a "buyer be aware" situation. Hopefully, it was just a bad night, with a bad server, and a bad cook. Our last all-inclusive dinner was supposed to be special so the 12 of us opted to change our reservation from the great seafood restaurant, Neptune's at the Villa Del Arco, to Bella at the Villa Del Palmar. It was our opportunity to try a different restaurant other than the Neptune or El Patron, which are very good. Our 6:00PM reservation to Bella left ample time for us to be ready and Bella to expect a large family. In fact, we were the first people there to be seated. Our server Gilda Pena didn't appear like she wanted to serve us from the start. Her attitude and service was very unprofessional and seemed like she was more concerned with her posture and appearance. We were told that Friday night was family-style buffet dinner and we were not allowed to order from the menu. We were not given a option to select from the menu like other diners around us. She practically threw a fork at one of my son's plate. She even poured balsamic vinegar and oil onto my sister's dinner plate rather that in a fresh bowl. Instead, she poured this onto a small "flat" plate which looked the liquid would seep over the sides after requesting her to provided a different "bowl." This should have been common sense. We talked to Santos, who said he was manager, about our disappointing server and were not treated fairly when we were there on time and there to enjoy our last great dinner. He explained that it was the Concierge's fault that they did not tell us about a buffet dinner for large groups since the Bella was concerned about service being a timely issue. We were not concerned about time since we were there early enough to enjoy a relaxing, good meal with our family of 7 adults and 5 children. The server failed to ask us if time was an issue or given a menu to look at. Like I said, we were not given any option and not asked if this would be an issue. We waited and ate at other restaurants in the Villa group earlier in our week stay. Unacceptable excuses and passing the blame on to the concierge was unprofessional. Beware!!! It is too bad we can not give a good review of the food because we couldn't eat what we would have liked to try. We went for dinner when they were empty and almost got turned away because we hadn't called in advance. The bread they serve with dinner comes with many different kinds and is in a large serving. We ordered the calamari to start and although it was not what we expected, (we expected fried but it was cooked in this savory sauce) it was delicious! We ordered ravioli and pasta puttanesca for our main dish and were very pleased. We added chicken to the puttanesca dish and this was cooked perfectly and all in all both dishes were super flavorful and we cleaned the plate!! After being so pleased with dinner, we decided to order the apple pie for dessert. This was very disappointing. The pie slice was more like a tart (see picture) and shared amongst two people was not very large. It also had almost no apple filling.
