After having some sea food on Christmas Day, I was in dire need of something sweet. I saw options for soft serve "ice cream" and churros. I wanted neither. Unwilling to keep looking, I settled on Bella Gelato and I'm so glad I did. The employee was friendly, greeted us and provided samples. I got a small scoop of mint chip on a waffle cone and paid about $6. This was more than enough. The serving was pretty generous, I thought. The place was clean and easy to move through. The good: I had the pistachio gelato and strawberry cream gelato. The strawberry one tasted a bit artificial but I liked that it was very creamy and milky. The pistachio one was great because they had real chunks of pistachio nuts in it. This place is located on the pier so it's a fun area to walk around with some ice cream. They don't have outdoor seating but there are tons of areas along the beach where you could enjoy your ice cream. You're not allowed to enter the store to view which gelato you want. Instead, you order from a list outside and they bring it out to you. The bad: The flavors weren't very interesting. On Yelp, I saw photos of more interesting flavors but of the list I was given to choose from there were only basic flavors. Perhaps the flavors were limited due to COVID. They had some sorbets and then regular gelato but all of the flavors were quite standard. I didn't see the Nutella, ube, coconut, or matcha flavors that I saw from photos online. This little shop on the Redondo pier serves up some delicious & smooth gelato. I got a medium sized cup with 2 scoops, hazelnut and expresso bean. Both flavors were vibrant and pleasurable with each and every bite. The bad stuff? My friend got a small cup with two scoops and had an equal amount of gelato as my medium with two scoops. So don't waste your money on a medium, get a small! Also, they only have a couple of tables inside and they were filthy. And what's up with only having one guy working on a Saturday night? My lady and I came across this awesome gelato place last month after watching "This Is The End" with my sibling/apprentice Mikayla & her boyfriend L.J.. Bella Gelato is located at the Redondo Beach Pier, right next to the store that sells those trendy CALI FOR NIA shirts, tourist souveniers, etc. It's a nice, simple and small, cozy place where you can satisfy your taste buds by clensing it with some Italian gelato. The gelato itself here is very rich and creamy, just like the ones over in Italy! I love how the servers here are Italian, because it gives me a nice vibe, as if I'm really back in Italy during the duration of my stay inside of Bella Gelato. Basically, ANY of the gelato choices are worth buying, especially if you want a great alternative to Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen & Yogurtland. If you bring a chick here while she's on her period, (we're all adults here, right? lol! Let's be REAL!) she will probably love you forever. All you need to do after or before your trip to Bella Gelato, is take her to Target, and in the words of my boy Patrick: "DONE!". Very disappointed and disgusted with the awful customer service here. I respect the Covid, I am not in fear of it but I respect it. I walked in with my two daughters, 8 and 3 yrs old. My first gelato is handed to me and I handed to my youngest, she starts to lick her cone. I order my next gelato and my oldest starts to lick her cone as soon as she gets it. As I am ordering the last order, the not so nice young man tells me that the girls must eat their cones outside- in a very rude and snarky attitude. I ignored him because I pick and choose my battles, I know we won't be in there long. My oldest puts her mask back on and stops eating her gelato and I am just not going to fight with my 3 year old. Mind you at this moment indoor and outdoor dinning is available. As I am paying for the order, the guy stops taking the next order and looks to me and says something along the line I already told you they can't eat their cone in here, he was firm, rude and insensitive. At this moment, I got snarky back and told him what do you want me to do I am paying for my stuff and I am not leaving my kids outside by themselves. His response is what really was just the cherry on top " well maybe the older one can watch the younger one " This young man was seriously trying to tell me what to do with my kids. Mind you it's a busy 6 pm afternoon on a Saturday. I work in law enforcement and have watched one too many murder mystery shows to know danger is all around us and it takes seconds for kids to go missing. Plus we were visiting so this was not a familiar place to us. I was so furious. I get there are precautions but come on. When everyone is opening up and having indoor dinning, I felt it was uncalled for. I will never go back. I hope management reads this and gives this kid some customer service training because he sure needs its. White Chocolate Nutella! I've only been here once, but I was amazed at the deliciousness of the white chocolate nutella gelato. My BF and I were kinda on the fence about getting dessert, because we were pretty full, so we opted to "share" an order of gelato, but this gelato was so delicious that we had a hard time sharing, and had wished we had ordered our own. I don't even usually really like sweets, but this was really good. I loved that the white chocolate nutella gelato had texture, I tasted pieces of chocolate and hazelnut. After eating some seafood, ice cream seemed like the perfect dessert to eat while sitting on the pier looking at the beautiful ocean. We didn't feel like eating dipped ice cream cones or anything too heavy, so we stopped by here. The service was pretty nice. The lady was very nice letting us sample the flavors. We ended up getting a large, 2 scoop gelato cup: Mocha Almond Gelato- 2.5/5- For some reason this gelato melted REALLY fast. We literally got the cup and this was dripping all over our hands. It didn't really have a solid taste too it. There was no rich or creamy taste to it. Neither mocha, coffee, nor chocolate. Very confusing watered down flavor, but it didn't taste bad. I did enjoy the small pieces of almond inside. Green Tea Gelato- 3/5- This matcha tasting green tea flavored gelato was pretty sweet. The gelato wasn't formed well...there were pieces of ice stuck between the gelato. It felt like chewing ice. If you need a gelato fix while hanging in Redondo, then this place will do! As far as the scale of gelato I have tried, this was no where near the best. I had a medium with one scoop of strawberry sorbet and another of hazelnut. I tried several flavors and all of the chocolate flavors had a very artificial taste. The strawberry was overly sweet as was the mango sorbet. And the hazelnut had an odd aftertaste too. Not sure if they were frozen and unfrozen one too many times - but for almost $5, really not worth it. That being said, it was a hot day and the ladies on staff were really lovely and warm and this is the only gelato in the area so go for it! They allow you to try the flavors so you can make sure you get the one you like. Also, the serving cups are hard plastic and were pretty cool.
