Dropped by the other day for some gelato. Got a medium-sized cup with a scoop each of the vanilla and strawberry cheesecake. Both flavors were delicious. The gelato itself was dense and very creamy. The shop offers gelato in three cup sizes: small (one scoop), medium (two scoops), and large (three scoops). All three cups look tiny, but they give you generous scoops of gelato. The service was slow as molasses. I seriously thought the employee assisting me was moving in slow motion. Service aside, I think this place is worth checking out. The woman who took our order did not greet us, she just stood at the counter in front of us until my friend and I asked for samples. In the heart of El Segundo, in Main Street. Really, you can't beat the gelato here. The owner served us (I think it's the owner) very generous scoops--not like some of the other ice cream places in town. I ordered the raspberry sorbet, which was delicious--thick and rich in flavor, even a little tart, which I loved. I've been to Italy a half dozen times and I'm a huge fan of gelato. This is the closest I've had to the real Italian dessert in a long time. My son ordered the strawberry chocolate chip, and a second scoop of Ferrero Rocher, I have to say the Strawberry was delicious; while the FR was less spectacular. We met up with friends for dinner but didn't want the evening to end so walked here for a sweet treat. Fernando was so kind and patient while we tried a few flavors. I asked if he gave a senior discount, he said no, but he gave me one anyway! How kind is that!! Also provided a bag for my dinner leftovers which I didn't ask for and made sure I received a loyalty card. Customer service was golden. The gelato? So good!! We had Dubai chocolate, pumpkin spice, straccielli (totally spelled that wrong), marshmallow (yum!) and a couple others that were also delicious. Yes, there is a cigar shop next door. Yes, you can smell smoke. It actually made it feel more authentic. In Italy so many people smoke so we were reminded of our trip to Italy. Will be coming back often. read more

Service announcement for anyone considering trying this place. If you see some old ladies sitting in the shop don't bother. There were two old ladies sitting in this shop when I walked in. I thought one of them looked at me disapprovingly. I guess sweat shorts and a sweat shirt were not acceptable to her? Anyhow, the lady at the counter rushed me through the order limiting me to two rushed tastings, telling me to hold onto my tasting spoons and couldn't get to the register fast enough. I wish I hadn't ordered. It was a bizarre strained interaction that I can only assume was a result of her judgmental customer sitting in the shop. I ordered the cappuccino for my daughter and I. Well, taste was great and mine was made with whole milk but she ran out of milk. So she made my daughter's cappuccino with some almond milk. It was before noon so how did she ran out of milk? Other than that everything was great. Love the espresso machine. Wait time was not bad either though she was the only person working there. Avoid this place if you or your family have food allergies. I visited with my family and made it clear before ordering that my child has food allergies. The employee (possibly the owner) texted the owner or someone to verify the ingredients and assured us the item was safe. I'm always aware of the possibility of cross contamination. Within seconds of eating, my daughter began coughing and showing signs of a reaction. I calmly asked to see the ingredient list, but was told they didn't have a hard copy. How does a restaurant not have ingredient information on hand? That's basic food safety. When I asked her to double-check and confirm whether the marshmallows contained the allergen, she texted again but never received a response. I explained that I just wanted to understand what caused the reaction in case it worsened. Instead of helping, she told me rudely I "shouldn't be taking my kid anywhere " if she has food allergies. Completely inappropriate and unprofessional. All I wanted was information to keep my child safe--not judgment or attitude. We left with no answers, wasted money for all our orders and even more food anxiety. Recommendation: If you or your child have allergies, avoid this place. They're not equipped to handle allergy concerns or provide clear ingredient information. read more

Such a cute, cozy spot! I came here with some friends to grab some dessert after dinner. There was a family that was in here already enjoying their time, us, and a group of teenagers that came in after us. I thought it was nice that it's a spot that's good to come with family and friends, no matter what age. The store itself offered a lot of different dessert options. One of the best dessert spots in the South Bay. Came here with a friend on a Saturday post-dinner in Manhattan beach to satisfy our sweet tooth's. The shop owner is from Naples and you can tell that she's very proud of her Italian heritage. There are various gelato and sorbet options (no sampling) so you should be able to find something you like. She mentioned that the stracciatella was her favorite, and so I opted for that, pistachio, and bacio (a chocolate hazelnut flavor). Every single flavor was rich and creamy. You can get up to three different flavors if you get a waffle cone. My friend got the marscapone and Nutella, which was also very sweet and heavy. They do have actual food available as well. If you are in the area and haven't tried this place, well, I'm not sure what to say other than you need to. But I will warn you, if you do try it once, you'll be back. Three different cup sizes, waffle cones, about a dozen different Gelato flavors and some surprising food items should make you want to visit at least once. Conveniently located in cozy downtown El Segundo, Gelato-go is a very clean and friendly place. I say convenient because El Segundo does not charge for parking in their downtown area. Parking is a little more challenging now because they have built outdoor dining areas for several restaurants, taking away a number of those spots but I have always been able to find a spot not more than 3 blocks away, usually within a block. The Gelato is great and to make sure you get the one you will thoroughly enjoy, they give free samples. To save the environment a little, you might want to hold on to your last sample spoon as it is the exact same spoon they will give you when you finally make your choice. But, don't let the gravitational pull of all that Gelato in the front display stop you from wondering farther into the store. Did you know they have food items as well? Lasagna, meatballs, breaded rissoto balls, cannolis, cheesecake? Well, now you do. As mentioned, parking is free and easy to find, walking along Main Street is very safe and there are several small business to gaze into while you enjoy you choice.
