Handel's Homemade Ice Cream - Redondo Beach…read more Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place, it's one of my favorites. I especially love the Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, which is always delicious. One of the reasons I prefer this Redondo Beach location is their generous portions. They also allow you to choose two different flavors on a sugar cone, which some other locations (like Glendale) do not allow, they require the same flavor. That flexibility definitely makes a difference. Parking is plentiful, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is nice since you're enjoying your ice cream outdoors. Overall, it's a great spot, and I highly recommend it if you're in the area.

I had a very disappointing experience at Hansel's Ice Cream Redondo Beach Location…read more I came in to order for my two young children and was simply asking questions about portion sizes since they don't offer kids servings. The employee refused to accommodate a simple request, then accused me of having an attitude and closed the service window in my face. When I asked for a manager, another employee came out and said they supported the coworker and also refused to serve me. I was eventually served only after being told to "not have an attitude." I only completed the purchase because I had promised my kids ice cream, but the overall experience was disrespectful, unprofessional, and felt discriminatory. I would not recommend this place, especially for families.

Love that they rotate their flavors and that their ice cream is freshly made. Definitely check them out when you're in Torrance. Staff was friendly and courteous while their service was fast. Line can get long but since their staffs hustle, wait time is not overly dramatic. You can also buy their ice cream in pints for to-gos. It is small inside with linited seatings and parking can be tight, it is a small complex shared with other businesses so definitely cannot accommodate too many occupants all at once, so plan accordingly! It is the absolute perfect dessert to follow up a savory bowl of ramen! The matcha flavor is spot-on--rich, authentic, and not overly sweet. But what really makes this parfait a standout is the incredible mix of textures and toppings: The Mochi: Incredibly soft, chewy, and fresh. The Azuki Beans: Perfectly sweet and traditional, pairing beautifully with the green tea. The Corn Flakes: A genius addition at the bottom that gives every bite a satisfying, nostalgic crunch. It's layered beautifully and hits the spot every single time. Kansha Creamery is an absolute gem, and this parfait is a must-try!

The self-serve frozen yogurt machines stood before me like gleaming monuments to dairy perfection. I grabbed a cup with trembling hands, positioning it beneath the first dispenser. The creamy ribbon of vanilla descended in a perfect spiral--smooth, pristine, impossibly white. I pulled the lever on the chocolate swirl. The moment it touched my tongue for a test taste, time stopped. Rich cocoa notes exploded across my palate, balanced perfectly with tangy yogurt cultures. Not too sweet. Not too tart. The temperature exactly cold enough to refresh without causing brain freeze. My taste buds sang in harmony! But the true battlefield lay ahead, the toppings bar. Fresh strawberries, gleaming like rubies. Mochi pieces that promised chewy resistance. Chocolate chips, cookie crumbles, crushed Oreos, gummy bears in every color. Nuts, almonds, pecans, walnuts waiting to add textural complexity. And the sauces! Hot fudge, caramel, strawberry syrup, positioned like weapons in an arsenal. With surgical precision, I assembled my masterpiece. Fresh fruit for brightness. Mochi for chew. A strategic drizzle of caramel forming golden rivers through vanilla peaks. At the register, the final moment: the weigh-in. Worth. Every. Ounce. As the first complete spoonful entered my mouth, all the elements united--creamy, crunchy, chewy, fruity, sweet--a symphony of texture and flavor that could only be described as... PERFECTION

Alternatively, it feels more expensive than Ice Cream you can buy at a supermarket or a parlor like Handel's or Baskin Robins when you're paying over $20 for 3 kids. However, it is a fresh experience I guess and is perceived as fun.

There was a new flavor called pineapple upside down cake that had caught my eye so I handed him my credit card and told him to hook up the household. It's nice that you get credit toward future purchase discounts which are appreciated. I ordered a large that comes with 4 scoops. Besides the new item, I added cherry vanilla, rocky road, and butter pecan. Guess I was feeling a bit nutty. The pineapple was a little too cakey for me but I'm glad I tried it. Variety is the spice of life right? Hadn't had butter pecan in ages so that was a walk down memory lane. A Bruster's day is always a good day. Love my ice cream.

I was right, but that still may be a bit unusual in SoCal, where we all scream for ice cream all year 'round. Large parking lot was mostly empty when we arrived and only filled in slightly for other businesses by the time we left, around 3:15pm. It took a minute for us to get noticed by the one person working, who we called out to a few times. She took our orders and got to work filling them. While we waited, I did a bit of inter webs research on why Bruster's resembled the same set up as Handel's. Turned out Bruce (the man behind Bruster's) worked for Handel's and had some of his own ideas about changes to the Handel's way of operating that, let's just say, Handel's wasn't open to trying. So Bruce went his own way, building on the same concept of ice cream made fresh daily in-house, unique flavors and a walk-up window. Interesting. Also interesting was the small portion in my waffle bowl. It was meant to be Medium, 2 flavors, but it looked more like a small, 2 flavors. In addition, the 2 scoops were offset with one flavor hanging over the edge, rather than in the bowl. Wonky. Lots of room in the bowl, why was it hard to aim the scoops into it? No one was being rushed, no line forming. This is a treat. Something special. Take a beat for the presentation. Especially if you're not giving full scoops. Make that bowl look like you filled it as best you can with the small amount you're dishing out. I haven't had this experience at other Brewster's, so maybe it's just how this location is run, or maybe just the person on this day. Don't think I'll return to find out. Cheers! "CC"
