I made the mistake of not requesting her the 2nd time I went & walked out wanting to CRY! I finally had free edge by the 2nd appointment thanks to the amazing job Clair did... (Lasted well over 3 weeks!) But Angelica filed them down to stubs again!!! :'( (sad day for a nail biter) On top of that she put like 6 layers of polish (minimum) on each nail & 8 layers on the ones with glitter!! They looked chunky & uneven! I tried hard not to judge her when I found out how recently she began doing nails but I've never been so disappointed over a no chip manicure. Ugh. Not really sure what happened to this place... I've been coming to Bella Pelle regularly for over 4 years now and I've seen all the changes this salon has gone through, most notably their front desk/management. And its for the worse. The current front desk/receptionist is not friendly at all, and has this vibe like she dreads being there or she thinks she's God. jeez. The only reason I keep returning is because of my girl Joanna - she's legit in all aspects of an aesthetician and the price for a Brazilian is quite reasonable. But I'm writing a second/updated review because of the following incident that LITERALLY just happened minutes ago... They close at 7. Knowing that, I called at 6:55pm to schedule an appointment. Front Desk chick answers and asks if I can be placed on hold. I said sure, and she places me on hold. I waited. And waited..... and waited. I was on hold for 7 minutes when then I heard 3 beeps and then the call ended. Front desk chick never took me off hold, b*tch just hung up on me. I, of course, call back, but by then it was after 7 pm and eventually the call went to their voice mail. I'm done. After 4 years and so many changes, their customer service is appalling and this was the last straw for me. I've been a loyal client for over 4 years - but you failed at the basics of customer service. I don't care if I called 1 hour before or 1 minute before you close - as a business whose hours of operation are made public, you're still considered open and you need to acknowledge all clients, in-person or over the phone, as such. Return the damn call. If you're debating whether to try this place, I hope my experience seals the deal for you. Look the other way. read more

I came in as a walk in on a Monday afternoon for a pedicure. Had to wait about 20 minutes but I expected that, being a walk in. I was offered tea or coffee for my wait, which was a very nice courtesy. Atmosphere is very classy and nice. The music level was perfect! It was lightly muted so that it wasn't too loud. The decorations were very nice and the equipment all was of a very good quality. The brands of polish are very nice, but there were more dark colors then light colors. More deep reds and bright pinks then light pinks. The prices are reasonable, pretty median compared to other places I've been. I felt very pampered here. They seemed very concerned with whether I was was satisfied, asking if the foot bath or the hot towels were too hot, or if I was satisfied with the polish on my toes. read more

Ugh, I hate writing bad reviews, and usually I try to give a place a few chances before I make a final conclusion which is what I did with this place. This place has so much potential to be great. Honestly. The spa itself is cute, and they have these cool big chairs to make you feel like a princess if that's what you're going for. Service on the other hand, much left to be desired. My colleague got me a gift card here because she knows that I love getting manis/pedis during lunch after a rough week. I normally go to the west loop at my usual spot, but when I'm on a time crunch, this place is conveniently down the street for me. I scheduled an appointment, arrived on time for my pedicure, and was greeted by a lovely receptionist. Once I was checked in, my nail tech lady brought me to the pedicure chair. The water was boiling hot, but I'm a grown woman so I politely asked if I could make it cooler. No big deal. She kept on critiquing on how I cut my nails which fine. That's not the first time someone had made a comment about it, but the way she said it made me feel like I had just failed in life. My last request was to have my nails cut just a tad shorter because I like to keep my nails short. She made me feel like I took so much time out of her day. That's where my last straw was. As far as the pedicure went, it was average--nothing to write home about. For a regular manicure, it lasted about 2-3 days until it started chipping. Kind of on the low side if you ask me. read more

When it came time to pay she said she had to charge me an additional dollar per nail because I got them done at another salon. I made an appointment for a bikini wax--my first time getting one. I went in and the wax tech began to do a full wax. I don't really know the difference between the different styles of waxing so I didn't know what was what. About halfway through I told her she might've done too much and she said for a Brazilian this was normal. I told her I had booked a bikini wax and if there had been a mistake that was fine but what she had done already was OK. She was very argumentative and was pushing me to do a full Brazilian. I had to tell her 3x that I didn't want to before she backed off. At the front desk, they confirmed I had been scheduled for a Brazilian even though I am 100% positive that's not what I asked for when I made the appointment. I offered to pay the price of a French wax since she had done more than a bikini wax and it was an honest mistake. The front desk woman was incredibly rude and insisted I pay for a Brazilian even though that's not what I asked for and the aesthetician didn't even give me the full service! In the end it's a difference of $12 so I just paid it (and tipped) but it was a bad experience and I definitely would urge first time waxers to stay away from here. read more

Cute neighborhood salon on taylor street. I believe they have 3 pedicure stations and 4 manicure stations. They offer a wide variety of services from waxing to spray tans. I got a no chip manicure here. They didn't have a huge selection of colors and although the spot is cute it's not at the level of a full service 5 star salon. Reception staff is friendly and professional. I thought my no chip was not bad considering I paid $ 19 for it, but no hand soaking for relaxation while they cut your cuticles was offered. Great for college students looking for a budget. I really would give this place 3.75 stars but not 4. Best wishes! read more

I used to be a regular patron but now I'm not. Monica and her sister are great, but I don't trust anyone else there. My usual was a Brazilian wax and an eyebrow threading when a woman that no longer works there was my regular go-to person. Upon finding out she was no longer there I thought I would give her replacement a try. Why not? I warned her that my hair may not be long enough for a good waxing. But I told her to be the judge since she's the professional and I can always come back in a week. She pulled and ripped and waxed until she looked at me with what seemed like pity and said "You will probably be sensitive for a while." Needless to say I didn't get my eyebrows done that day. What followed was nothing I had ever thought possible. She had ripped off layers of skin and that caused the under layers to burn from her overzealous waxing attempts. I ended up in the closest Urgent Care facility I could find and missed a day of work due to the pain. The doctor said if I wanted to pursue legal action she would write a letter for me. I decided to let it go and just never go back. But I promised to write a review and let others know so hopefully the same thing won't happen to them. read more

Total Nightmare: BEWARE!!! I came in for the most simple thing (something that most people do at home, with not much more than a box of dye, toner ((if even needed)) and a good conditioner). I decided to come in here because it's close to my house, and had trouble with my busy schedule getting an appointment at places I trust, before a very important milestone in my career next week- I will be in front of a television audience of thousands and the job is dependent on my looks. I came in just to ask if there was an opening for walk-in and check the prices. They're VERY sketchy and misleading with their prices here. Nothing is listed- all orally given. The stylist sat me down in her chair (good sales move!). It's like she was already getting started on taking me, so I felt pressured to stay there. I think she was trying to upsell, and gave me something I didn't want! I showed several pictures, and I thought my verbiage was clear enough in what I wanted (simple dye job- all over color...is this something that should be $180 at a salon that isn't even nice as a chain like Ulta??) She DESTROYED my hair, wasted my time, and I was charged WELL over what any simple full hear (short hair, keep in mind) dye should be..she didn't even blow dry completely and had my do part of it myself!! I do modeling and television work and can't afford to look like crap. I don't know what kind of clients the stylist normally has, but she tried giving me an outdated look from like the late 90s-2000! ...Now that I think of it even more, I realize another thing I told her that make it clear that I just want a simple dye job..like why on earth?!?!.... I recently relocated to Chicago from Philly. I came here on the recommendation of my esthetician in Philly. I should preface that I've been regularly getting Brazilians for several years. I had an appointment with Anna. I was seen promptly on arrival. Throughout my entire appointment, I had to suffer through "the rules" speech from Anna. As I said, this was not my first time at the rodeo, but she still felt the need to run me through her waxing rules. She also repeated several times that I need to get waxed every 4-6 weeks. I understand this and explained that it had been just 7 weeks, but I had JUST moved and was still finding my way around. She didn't seem to listen as she needed to continue on with the rules. I'm realizing how spoiled I was in Philly as I had a great relationship with my esthetician, but Anna's gruff mannerisms made for a rather unpleasant experience. The wax itself was lackluster. Anna rushed through and didn't do ANY touch up with tweezers. I had to do that myself. If I'm paying all that money, I want everything taken care of. Wax On Wax Off is not super convenient for me and given the mediocre experience I wouldn't head back here. read more

I wanted the same color for both my fingers and toes but they didnt have many colors available for no chip... not even a neutral pink! My pedicure was not relaxing. No massage chair and your feet are propped on this tiny unstable stool the entire time. The nail tech was way too soft on massaging and exfoliating. Barely cleaned my toes before quickly putting on polish. No chip mani was painful. Literally. Had 2 cuticles cut and been feeling like I have a papercut in two different nail beds since. She put 3 layers of polish on but not great quality or coverage. Fyi I get regular no chip manis at another salon. Overall, its a never again for me. read more

I have never given a bad review for threading. Threading is threading. Its fast and it hurts a little. Wipe those tears, and suck it up. But this was the worst threading experience I've ever had. I went in for a quick threading, it was fast alright but SHE RIPPED OFF A PIECE OF MY EYELID. I was like oww. and annoyyed. I have a high tolerance for pain. I'm like ok whatever. I check the mirror and I see the skin was a little raw and I did not see the nick. The next day, I see it. its like scratching the skin with a needle and cutting through the skin. crusty with blood after 1 day. I found my go to place for brazilian waxing. I ended up here after bouncing around between salons and don't ever want to go anywhere else. Anna is very nice, clean and thorough and it's all done so quickly. If you're going to use hot wax to rip out unwanted hair this is definitely the place to do it. Yes it's a little painful but when you're done in 10 minutes it's not that bad. Scheduling has always been super easy and the receptionist is always friendly. DO NOT GO HERE!!! HORRIBLE BUSINESS. I came here today to get a french manicure with a glitter overlay, and Angelica, the manicurist said the charge for glitter was $2. I said that it was fine. She finished the manicure and I went to pay. The total came to be $55. I was surprised by the extra $20 charge, and I was told then, AFTER the service, it costs $2 PER NAIL. I was shocked and told the receptionist I never knew about this charge and she REFUSED to change it for me or help me at all. It became obvious to me that this business is run by THIEVES. I paid and left, but came back within the next 5 minutes because I saw she MESSED UP my no chip manicure, and had her fix it for me. I told her how I felt CHEATED out of my money and that for future reference to tell customers the charge BEFORE you do their nails. She said "I thought you knew what I meant." WHAT? I responded with "How would I know something if you did not say it?" She then changed the story and said "I DID NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THE CHARGE BECAUSE I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT ENGLISH." Which tells me that she is a LIAR. We just spent the past hour talking! She ONLY said "It's two dollars." and made no attempt to say "each" or "per nail". If she does not know those words, she must be unintelligent. I assured her that it was not an issue of a language barrier and to not lie to her customers. I got NO apology. NO money off. NO refund. When I went to a different nail salon that same day they informed me that the job they did was horrible and looked like an amateur did it. I'm giving this place one star only because I actually enjoyed my first no chip with Rose. They looked great but they did begin to chip after 8days or so. I called over a week ago for another appointment with Rose and it was all set. Then today I was running late but did get a voicemail stating that my no chip with Natasha was at 1:30! I never requested Natasha. The service is poor, the receptionist has an attitude. When I was there last she was getting her own nails done while having to get up and answer the phone or greet customers as they walked in. I went here for a facial (Groupon deal) and an eyebrow threading. This is only the second facial I've had, so I'm not an expert or anything. But both the first time and this time I've broken out afterward. I've heard that this is a sign you're detoxifying your skin, but I think it could also be that they didn't use the right things for my face. I don't know. But I might pass on future facials because I don't feel like they do anything for me. The location is on Taylor Street and parking can be tough. My facial took longer than I expected and I got a parking ticket (partly my fault for not overloading on time, partly their fault for taking so long to do everything). The spa is nice and clean. It has a cute feel to it inside. After my facial I was going to get my eyebrows threaded. I've decided I like this better than waxing because my skin is pretty sensitive. The esthetician said "well, you should get waxed because it's faster." Well, I don't want to get waxed. She seemed annoyed that it was close to closing time (never mind that I had scheduled this beforehand, so she knew how much time she had left) and I said, well, I had scheduled for a threading. And she said, well you should really wax. So I got waxed. And she didn't do a very good job because there were stray hairs. And she didn't even show me the finished product when she was done, so I didn't get a chance to say anything. I probably won't be back because I've decided facials aren't for me. And after the eyebrow thing, I'd rather try to find somewhere else to get threaded. But I'd invite other people to try it and see what you think. read more

Two of my friends have gotten their hair colored here and I thought I would give it a try. The decor is modern and beautiful. I went in on a Saturday and was surprised it wasn't busier. Marlena did a blonde ombré color to my hair. I showed her a few pictures and she had amazing input to achieve my desired look. Then she began her magic. She was fast, friendly and I felt confident in her work. She left me in anticipation because I did not see myself until she was done styling it. WOW! I hadn't had my hair colored in 3 years and I was so impressed. I will be telling all of my friends about her! She is fantastic! To seal the deal, it was under $100 for the color and my eyebrow threading. If that isn't heaven I don't know what is. read more

I absolutely adore this salon and everyone in it {with the exception of a horrible manicure I had where the technician kept spitting on my hands while speaking and cut up all my cuticles....but she no longer works there, so all is forgiven} I have searched long and far for a consistently reliable place to get my eyebrows done, where I can walk in and know that I will leave happy and not have to worry about looking like the 60 year old Russian grandmas with penciled in brows. Both Marlena and Monika are amazing and eyebrow threading - quick, relatively painless, and always with a perfect arch and shape. I also came to the salon to fix a bad color job, and the colorist (I can't remember his name now, unfortunately) did an amazing job, and Marlena gave me a perfect blow-out. Called in this week for a last minute Brazilian wax. It had been awhile so I was incredibly anxious all day awaiting the painful experience! They were able to get me the same day and had a few options for me for times which was nice. When I arrived I couldn't find the place (they haven't changed their new address on Google apparently and I was on the wrong side of the street. A nice man asked me if I was looking for a nail salon across the street and I was back on track). Minus half star there. The inside is really cute, trendy chic and was clean and nice smelling. I went on back for my appointment and got undressed. I'm used to getting a wipe or two to clean myself before. One wasn't available but not a big deal. The woman that was to do my wax came back in and immediately propped my legs into place, slapped on some wax within a couple of seconds and had the first one ripped off before I even knew what was happening. Same for the next one. In the end it took her probably less than 10 minutes for the entire wax. No small talk, no gently putting on wax and then rubbing the pad for 30 seconds or cooling the inflamed skin after each tug. I was little disoriented at first when she started but I mean less 10 minutes!!! Yes please! I am in love with this woman!! Now minus the other half star because a few spots already feel a bit like she didn't get them quite all the way (this could also be because it's my first one in long time), but over all she did a great job, and i mean, again, less than 10 minutes. For a long time, Wax on Wax off was the only place I trusted to get my eyebrows threaded. They do a great job and the pricing is great. I discovered this place when I was a student at UIC (they offer a 10% off student discount!) I used to drive into Chicago from the burbs after I graduated just for the threading and waxing. Be forewarned, however, they wax very efficiently and, for some people, that might equate to very painfully. I don't really mind though because they do a nice job and you're in and out pretty quickly. read more
