SYMPHONY OF HANOVER PARK / 3RD FLOOR NURSING…read more I would agree with all the negative comments here. Many of the nurses aren't attentive, there is no communication and they simply don't care about the patients or the facility. It's impossible to find out any information. I came here as a cardiac patient (Heart failure) and had to wait numerous times for a nurse to answer my call light. The last straw was today when I waited over 1 hour and 22 minutes. Some of the nurses were nice and attentive but most don't really care. Sometimes this is a earmark of the people that own and manage because they purposely under staff, over work and under pay nurses, particularly the foreign ones. You can forget about your room being cleaned, bed made or a bath on the weekends. If you have a love one take them somewhere else. ***** 5 STARS go to Carol, Ashley and Stacy for the Rehab Unit (Different than the overnight nursing unit at Symphony) I came in not able to get into or out of a car, do stairs or walk very far. In just over two weeks I am now able to get into and out of our car, do stairs and walk further. Wish this rehab had out patient.

But this Facility apparently was done with me. I understand going down to one day a week sessions, but what I couldn't understand was, why the deceit or run around. On July 05 at the end of my session I asked the receptionist if we could schedule my next round of appointments. She informed me my therapist wanted to discuss with me going down to one day (he was unexpectedly off after the Holiday) on Monday so she wanted to wait until I talked to him. So after my session on Monday I went up to her desk again and asked to schedule more appointments; this day she told me she couldn't schedule (apparently from Fri. - Mon. her story changed), anymore appointments as I needed to get approved first. I asked her. Approved from Who ? My therapist had mentioned the potential of Medicare being an issue. I informed I have TWO insurances and Medicare is Not my Primary, (in which they have this info.) they basically have nothing to do with this. So she says, hold on let me go check and she walked into the back, returning to tell me to call in 3-4 days to see if an approval came in. Again I asked approval from Who? (I know my 2 insurances were still covering this) She proceeded to say I had to wait for the Manager and due to the Holiday (4th of July), she is running behind so give her a few days. Really, this is how they operate? Knowing my insurance was still paying (& I even called them both to verify what I already knew), I called to schedule more appointments the next day. This particular women scheduled Two sessions for me and informed she was allowed to only schedule Two. (This was the very next day After the in house receptionist didn't want to be bothered scheduling the two allowed.) Then I was assured someone would call me to make the next set of appointments as soon as I was approved for more. She couldn't tell me either WHO exactly this so called approval was coming from. So I waited and waited, no one called. Plus the 2 I did get scheduled were 2.5 to 3 weeks away. Why does an established patient need to wait almost 3 weeks to get more sessions started? As I never heard back from anyone, I went elsewhere. But on July 22nd I received a phone call from Northwestern asking if I could take an appointment time available That day due to a cancelation. I informed I never had received a call to schedule more sessions and she informs me that they Are Indeed scheduled. I asked How? She then tells me her co-worker scheduled them for me. I asked, without talking to me? She sounded embarrassed and could only say her co worker must have thought she'd discuss it with me when I came in. I'd like to know if I couldn't do any of those days was I going to have to wait another 3 weeks to get in? So apparently it's the management who decides who's worthy of their time, they can push aside existing patients to allow room for New patients, so beware. Actually there is no really concern or care for their patients. I tried to send a letter to upper management but was only able to find a Patient Relations department for the hospital. I explained to her I did not want to discuss this with the local Bloomingdale office as they were the cause. She said she'd pass my name onto the next in charge. I never heard back, I sent a note telling the Patient Relations person that I didn't want to leave a bad review because I didn't want it to reflect poorly on my two therapists. Still I never heard from anyone. Now looking back at that environment I can truly say if you have a major issue this is not the best place to go. It's a large facility set up badly, i wanted to discuss the safety issues but no one wanted to call me and there were the bike that was positioned too close to it. Another time I had to use the Pullies directly after someone stopped using them (only one set !) Same thing with the armbike: None of the equipment is wiped off after use. No disenfective wipes are available in the therapy rooms for the Patient to wipe down. I saw a lot of Elderly people here, covid may not be raging but germs always exist. This facility has no weight bars for use and about daily I was given a Cane to use that surely was never wiped off from me or the last person who used it before me. My therapist attached a weight to the cane in which the velcro on the ends was worn down and it dangled over my face. When is it just going to fall apart onto someone's face? That's not all about the safety issues I spotted there but I'll just say I looked down when I walked I'm obviously highly disappointed in Northwestern but I think now they did me a favor because I'm in a much better place.

The attitude of administration. That was LAURA. I got him returned to his 2 person room. When asked about tv and phone was told again he never had one and I would have to pay extra and since "they remodeled they weren't available." REMODELED WHAT? First and 2nd floors were, and lobby. The 3rd floor is dismal! I'm not done here. I'm pursuing this all the way. Lost glasses, missing clothes, missing wedding ring, wallets disappeared and when brought up got blank stares! Again administration. Falls, dehydration, weight loss and now wheel chair bound. Lies about calling me and no response from me is crazy! I keptva landlines just for their contact, with an answering machine. No calls/message from administration or billing ever were made. I thought this was a good place for years. Previous administration was available and helpful. They changed it over time and the interaction stopped. Now administration hides in offices. They should be up on the floors to understand what their jobs really about. PEOPLE. REGARDLESS OF WHAT FLOOR THEY ARE ON, OR FOR WHAT REASON THEY'RE THERE ARE IMPORTANT. they deserve respect! I am careful about going in because I don't want confrontation or worry about how his treatment could be a affected. But I will be pursuing this matter thru proper channels. Not just for my relative - for anyone on that floor. Nurse Debbie, Denise, and a couple others could teach compassion!

They enjoyed their patients and responded nicely to them. Family were able to ask questions and got responses. This is NOT JUST ONE family with the following. You talk with others while there: The "Social Worker " is not certified from what I was told. Rolando, is USELESS. He says he will help find a place once the patient is leaving. He DID NOT. We had to push, ask questions, meet, etc. NOTHING was really offered. He finally said he had phone numbers to give us. That piece of paper with 10 facilities on it, was USELESS. I found 2 to be possibilities but those didn't pan out. On most, there is no distinction which are rehab, asst living, nursing. WHY THEY HIRE SOMEONE in this position, I do NOT understand. Anyone can hand out a paper or cards and leave if up to the family. He DID NOT make call/connections for us. He did tell us that they have info for those WHO CAN PAY which I figure is probably their 1st or 2nd floor residents. BE CAREFUL as Rolando will have an exit date. IF it is NOT reasonable, speak up. He was going to send MOM home by AMBULANCE as she was not mobile. I asked what we do once she arrives. He then changed the date. She was able to walk with assistance when she left on a later date. So, the patient is treated well, and rehab is good. IF you have lots of money to cover for residence afterwards, it's probably OK. However, there are even NICER places if you search ALDEN, Arbor Terrace in Naperville, Sunrise, some of the Heritage Woods, Asbury Gardens, Victory Center of Bartlett. Research and find one.

Due to the global pandemic, our application and move-in process was complicated and delayed, so our family was very stressed. I cannot say enough positive words about Starr and Vicki. They communicated with me regularly throughout the process to ease my stress and offer comfort. Even now, a few months after Dad's move-in, they still email or text me just to say hello and see how my Dad and the rest of the family is doing. These two women are kind and compassionate, and they truly helped our family through a very difficult time! There were times when I felt discouraged, so I would call Starr because I knew that her positive encouragement would make me feel better. She even called Dad to encourage him when I was worried that he was getting disconsolate. Now Dad is settled in at Victory Centre and he is very happy! He tells me that everyone is so kind and helpful. He says that the food is very good and he is happy with his apartment. He told me that it is perfect for him because he has privacy and independence in his own space, but he feels safe with the regular check-ins. He put it this way: "the staff makes themselves quietly known throughout the day." The staff is kind and they treat the residents with respect. I have been able to relax knowing that his medications are administered on time every day and he is being well cared for. The staff communicated with me regularly about my dad, and I have had wonderful conversations with Lora and others. One last note, we really appreciate that Victory Centre is taking the global pandemic seriously. They are taking every necessary precaution to keep their residents, caregivers, and staff safe! In comparing numbers of cases at local facilities, it is obvious that Victory Centre is taking the right precautions. I miss my Dad, and I wish that I could go and hang out with him in his apartment, but I know that he is in excellent hands! The caregivers and staff at Victory Centre are true heroes and wonderful human beings!

The warmth, concern, heart, and genuine care they feel is palpable throughout. As a result, she and her friends are comfortable, engaged, well-fed, observed by such loving, caring, dedicated nurses and sweet aides, and I have such relief knowing that she is living a life with purpose and activity, and constantly tells me how much she loves it there, and raves about the staff and the residents. Actually, a client of mine told me how much his Mom loved it there years ago, and I thought of that when I first brought her to visit. Best decision ever!! She was very scared, hesitant, but they turned her around gently but quickly and she is back to her fun self again, and it is just wonderful. There are no words for the peace having her there gives me. It's a blessed Victory! When I asked one of her now great friends about his experience living there her first week as a resident he enthusiastically said "best group of people I ever met" - so true. Smiles are all over both staff and residents and I love just being around them, but my Mom is so busy now, I have a hard time finding her when I visit - I love it!! Once again, without mentioning names, if they are employed there, I'm describing each one with this glowing review, and because they mean so much to me, and consider so many dear friends now, I will not leave anyone out, because I will run out of room. Just know this attitude started at the front door on the first day, and never disappointed since. I know she is in good hands, and it means the world to me - and so do they.
