During our trip to Sudbury, we had the pleasure to dine here only by luck. It was a Friday night and reservations were full but the owner came out after seeing us with a baby and pulled a table and made space for us three. The service is impecable and the food is beyond amazing. I have travelled to Italy and had the finest Italian restaurants but their Gnocchi is by far the best we have ever had. I don't usually write a review, but I can't stop thinking about my experience here. I was looking forward to it for several weeks and very excited to try their menu. First, we tried the calamari. Now, if there's calamari at a fine dining restaurant, I'm trying it. I've had some amazing calamari. This was not amazing. It was so rubbery that I had to swallow my first bite whole after chewing it for so long. We were hungry so we kept eating it. The light coating and seasoning was actually great but the texture sucked. If you know calamari, texture is a big deal. When asked how it was, we were honest but our server replied that no one else complained. So? I'm not speaking for anyone else. Anyways, she did apologize and said she'll let the kitchen know but no offer to discount it or take it off the bill. Whatever. Moving on. We ordered top sirloins. Medium rare. I chose to upgrade my side to risotto. When our meals came the steaks looked medium rare like we asked, but my husband got 3 little burnt potatoes and soggy vegetables. I got a messy pile of risotto and they took away my vegetables AND my potatoes and charged me an extra $11. Really? There was no mention of that. At least leave me the vegetables. Most sides are max $5 unless they're a protein lol. It gets worse, unfortunately. The risotto was undercooked. My husband didn't even touch the potatoes because they didn't look appetizing. And the steak... although cooked to our liking, somehow was tough. Very chewy. So disappointing. I didn't complain or send any of it back. When the server replied the way she did about the calamari, I knew she'd probably just argue and think we just like to complain when it came to everything else. I paid close to $200 for this experience and was very disappointed. Later realized the server was the owner. My husband and I went with my parents after a very long day of driving. I was a bit cranky to start but their food and the service was just so good that my mood was elevated significantly! We arrived about a half hour before closing with no reservation on a Sunday but they were incredibly accommodating! Drinks were and apps were great and the mains were amazing! I had the Chicken Valdostana which we had all been eying and everyone agreed that it was delicious. Everyone was thrilled with their meal which included the the Sole, the chicken fettuccine and the gnocchi. Our waitress was very helpful with suggestions and was in fact Italian (I believe from Calabria). We absolutely loved Bella Vita Cucina so if your in Sudbury give it a try! read more

My experience at Bella Vita Cucina was alright. It started with the phone call. I saw on Google they closed at 9:30pm. I called them to confirm their hours as well as if they would have room for a party of 3, seated at 8pm. They confirmed they in fact closed at 9pm and would have space for us yet they didnt take my name or number for a reservation. Odd, I thought. So I phoned back. The second phone call was very awkward. The communication between myself and the other person felt off; choppy. There was interrupting, no flow, no cohesion, not the best phone call experience for a dine in restaurant. Sometimes its just off the mark and you gotta go with it. So we did. We were hungry! When we arrived we got seated almost immediately, which was great. The posters that were up, stating masks were required confused us and we felt kind of bad for not having any masks on hand. Yet saw others without theirs and it was a policy that was not enforced. So, a-okay with me. Polite waitress came around after 5- 10 minutes once we were seated. We asked about the soup of the day- Carrot and ginger. She wasn't sure if they had any available and needed to check with the kitchen. We ordered our starters and began the wait. The waitress came back around and offered us the home made bread they make in house, with butter. The bread arrived cold. This did not impress us. Isn't it customary to have bread be warm? When it arrives as a pre-appetizer? Especially at an "authentic" Italian restaurant? 10 to 15 or so minutes later, the salads arrived. Garden salad, beet and goat cheese salad and cesaer salad. My salad, the beet and goat cheese was pretty dowsed with dressing. To sop up the rest of the dressing and cheese at the end I used a peice of their cold bread. The guy who had originally seated us came back around to collect our plates. And made a comment to me, "you know we have a dishwasher for that" he said. He meant it as a joke. Yet to me, I thought it was a rather unnecessary comment. I did not appreciate it. How rude! I thought. I felt embarrassed. Here I was sitting with 2 guys and a third guy had the audacity to comment on how I was eating! I promptly stopped, handed him my dish and sat in my mortification in silence. Closed mouth, chewing on the rest of the peice of bread. Baffled at such an occurence. While customs are different everywhere. It's actually a compliment to the chef, to not wanna waste any part of the meal or have anything remaining on the plate. Not even a single drop of dressing. Furthermore, how is he to know I do or do not have weight issues and saying a comment like that, to a womxn is just a plain fuckin' NO! There wasn't a consistent waitress for us. It switched between the woman and the fella who originally seated us. Both of which may or may not be the owners. In addition to the busser staff they had on for the night. The pizza came after another 10 to 15 minute wait, once they cleared our plates from the salads. Two calabrese pizzas and a margherita were ordered. There was confusion between the calabrese and the canadese pizzas. One of my friends desired the canadese, the pizza with the salami, bacon, mushroom, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese and instead he got the calabrese; roasted red peppers, soprassata salami, black olives, tomato sauce and goat cheese. The pizzas were tasty. And the ambiance was about a 2.5 outta 5 for me. They had these gorgeous fire cracker like lights, yet they were LEDs and kinda hurt my eyes. The music was lovely, I remember asking them the name of a couple of songs I liked and they were kind to accomodate acquiring that information for me. At the end of the meal, the friend who got his pizzas mixed up that's when he mentioned something. And the waitress we had, it felt like she was trying to make him "wrong". Unfortunately the timing was off for my friend, as it's best to do that kind of thing after a couple bites. Instead of at the very end. Regardless of the timing, its proper server to guest etiquette that customers need to leave feeling positive about their experience. Guests are always right, even when the staff beg to differ. We've all been there. Ultimately, it's about how staff handle the guests requests or inquiries. And this was not handled very well here, at all. We took a look at the menu on the way out to see about the pizza order. This place left a sour taste in my mouth. Their manners was not altogether. It's about mindfulness. Be aware of the impact your words can carry! Needless to say I left them a more than generous tip, when the over all experience was less than favourable for me. I don't know what the fuxk I was thinking. Perhaps I wasn't or I was thinking I like supporting family run businesses. Although, I will strongly re-consider in the future. My lesson: be assertive! This place is fantastic! Everything is made fresh and it shows. We used to always dine in but we ordered take lately and the food arrived piping hot and displayed almost as elegantly as it is on their china plates. My family and I had dinner Saturday night. I chose this restaurant based on good reviews. It turned out their patio seating was awful with a lot of noise from the cars passing-by. It was a last minute reservation and there was no seat in-doors. If I knew how their patio was like, I would have not gone there in million years. If you want to have a meal in a decent atmosphere, avoid their patio. The indoor seemed to be nice. Ok. Their foods. I had a really high hopes. The pizzas we ordered were mediocre. There were salty-side. Their pasta was better. The chicken fettuccine was good (the cream souse was nice). The seafood pasta was okay. I was not impressed by their tomato sauce which I was not sure if it was made in-house or store bought. The veal scaloppini was so-so. The veal did not taste fresh. Not worth $27. We had a table of five on a Saturday night. We made a reservation because we had a function to attend later in the evening. The service was excellent with attentive and knowledgable staff. I had the veal and it was delicious! The server was well versed in pairings and the contents of the dishes and visited our table frequently. The food is delicious and homemade however I find the prices keep getting more and more expensive which isn't impressive. My parents used to go there every Friday night for dinner and the prices kept going up so they stopped going which I completely understand. A touch of Italy in a small restaurant just around the corner. My favourite dishes are all the fresh pasta and sauces. You just need to try them for yourself and then thank me later.. (lol) there is a large room for a group and they really know how to take care of groups. read more

Ask for what dishes come with whole made pasta, as you have to try those for sure. that and the pizza is fantastic!

We just happened to find this restaurant through an internet ad and thought we would give it a try. We are so glad we did. It was the best dinner of our entire trip. The menu was original with an adequate number of choices. Our server Veronica was terrific. She was pleasant, and just the right amount of attentive. We never had long to wait for anything, but she didn't hover. When the food came it was hot, looked good on the plate and tasted fantastic. If we had any complaint it was the quantity in the bowl of soup. My husband order it, but is did seem pretty skimpy. When we mentioned it to Veronica, she whisked it away and came back with a really full bowl of soup. Now that is great customer service. The price is a little higher than we usually try for, but it was worth it. If we get back to Sudbury, we will come back. read more

Bella Vita is our favourite restaurant in the city and we've been there at least a dozen times. The food is excellent, value is tremendous and although the location sucks the place is constantly packed. In particular the half size orders let you pick and choose exactly what you want. Typically we'll order the antipasto for one to start with (enough for a snack for two), a pizza and 2 half orders of pasta. The half orders are still quite large and are well priced at $9 instead of about $16-17 for their normal sized pastas. My wife and I have been going to Bella Vita for about eight years. Generally our experiences have been good, but our last visit (June 2017) was disappointing. This review does not reflect our other experiences, just our most recent. Pros: good food (for the most part); good selection of mixed drinks / wines; ample parking Cons: water and bread were placed on the table before we arrived (see below); waitress was somewhat "snippy" and not terribly attentive; food was not cooked as ordered; restaurant was very warm (air conditioning either not on or not functioning) As I said, my wife and I have visited Bella Vita several (15 - 20) times over the past several years. Generally, we have had positive experiences (which is why we have returned!) Our past couple of visits have not been as good as we remember with a gradual decline in service and food, but we wanted to come back thinking that we may have hit a couple of "off nights." In our years attending, this was our least pleasant. When we arrived we had water and bread out on the table (before we were seated). The water had clearly been sitting for some time (it was tepid). My wife and I thought that the table may not have been cleared from the previous guests, so we asked the waitress if the water and bread were for us. She was not pleased with the question and indicated that this was standard practice in the restaurant (it appeared to be as we saw water and bread being placed at empty tables throughout the night). I found this practice a little off-putting (as I said, the water was tepid and we were not sure on how long it had been standing, uncovered, on the table). We had never seen this before when visiting Bella Vita (usually water was poured as we sat and bread was brought before the meal). Our waitress was not especially attentive (we had to seek her attention to ask that our water be refilled and when there was an issue with our order), and she was not terribly friendly. When delivering our dishes, both my wife and I thanked her (saying "thank you") without response. We also experienced this when she brought us our drinks and salad. In terms of our food, I ordered a grilled seafood platter, which was well prepared and quite good. My wife ordered a filet, medium-well. The steak arrived clearly under-cooked (when she cut it, the centre was uncooked, red and cool; the steak was rare at best). We informed the waitress, who did not apologize, but was quick to blame the chef, telling us "I did put medium-well on the order." She brought my wife's plate back to the kitchen, where the steak (including the portion that had been cut off) was reheated (through the pass, we could see into the kitchen and it appeared to be placed in the oven). In my experience, when this situation arises, a new steak would be prepared, cooked to the proper temperature. This option was not offered. The steak was then returned, cooked more but still not medium-well (still quite red in the centre). Having now been heated twice, it was quite tough (particularly for filet). The waitress did not apologize, and again, seemed put out for the inconvenience. The owner / chef (Filippo) did visit our table and asked us how our meal was. We let him know about the steak and he graciously offered to remove the cost from our bill. He genuinely seemed to appreciate the feedback and was concerned about our experience. We will likely return to Bella Vita again, as it has been our "go to" spot for many years. The chef is extremely talented, but we have certainly noticed when he is not in the kitchen as the standard seems to slide quite a bit. I do hope that the service improves, as this was our major issue during this visit. I would recommend going to Bella Vita, particularly if Filippo is in the kitchen. read more

My girlfriends and I stopped in at this restaurant for a late lunch and couldn't have been happier with the service and the food is to die for! Everything is homemade and certainly tastes like it. Just had dinner in this restaurant, first, we were excited because the food on the menu sounds really good. My wife ordered seafood risotto and I ordered Mixed Seafood Grill. When the order came in, they made a mistake and gave my wife risotto with beef. We told the waiter and he took it back, but when my wife got what she ordered the risotto was hard, we told the waiter but he said that's how they cook it and according to him that is al dente which obviously he has different meaning of al dente. Now onto my order, my Mixed Seafood Grill looks really good when I got it, but as soon as I sliced the grilled tuna, it was raw. I eat sushi especially sashimi and my grilled tuna is exactly like sashimi (if I wanted sashimi, i would have gone to Japanese restaurant). The head waiter said they don't cook it pass medium, it wasn't medium, it was raw (not rare) - the middle was cold. The lobster looks really good but when I tasted it, it was so salty. I guess you would love it if you like really salty food. Lobster usually has its natural saltiness, multiply it by 10 times that's how salty my lobster was. We were not happy with our dinner and we have tried so many different good restaurants in Toronto which definitely does not taste like this one. I would say the price is too much for the quality of food we got.
