Having both been MTSU students and having met in Murfreesboro, we were both more than familiar with the original Sir Pizza on Main St. Been many times and love it always. Unfortunately, neither of us liked our pizza and we hadn't been again since. 10 years... If you are familiar with the original Boro location, then you know this (Old Hickory/Hermitage) spot is just a little bit off. We recently went back to the one in the Boro a few weeks ago and loved it so much we figured we'd give this location (literally a mile from our house) a try again. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you see it), our pie was admittedly better than our first outing 10 years prior. BUT... having had the OG in the Boro so recently, we could tell a huge difference in the taste. For starters, the Boro's crust is nice and thin, quite crispy, and has a great 'munch' and crackle to the mouthfeel. The Old Hickory location has a very much thicker dough base that when cooked, turns out rather fluffy (despite still being a relatively thin crust... go figure), and when we bit into the center pieces of ours, some of the dough felt a little undercooked. The cheese and toppings are the same as the Boro, small minced meats and tiny pepperonis, just like it has always been. No issue there. The final and (in my opinion) worst offender of the slightly better, but still off, pie we had was the sauce. In comparison again to the OG Boro spot, Old Hickory's sauce was SUPER sweet. It tasted to me like whoever makes their particular batch of marinara adds WAY too much sugar to the recipe. Pizza sauce/marinara should not be sweet IMHO. I also echo the comments from another reviewer. We got a side of meatballs (don't do this), and it came with a little cup of marinara for dipping. It was, in fact, super chunky. I get that some people like this, but I've never cared for large chunks of tomatoes in my sauce. Just like the pizza sauce, their marinara, even with the chunks, was VERY sweet and quite off-putting to add to the meatballs to give them any semblance of flavor since the meatballs themselves were clearly just reheated, frozen, very small meatballs. Overall, the place made the pie quick, it was hot and fresh, and we had no complaints with the staff or customer service. Unfortunately, despite a better experience than a decade ago, we still didn't like this location's food and, since that's the only reason to go to a restaurant, we will just continue to frequent the OG Boro location when we're hanker'in for some Sir.

My server had one of the large groups, which usually means that as a lone patron you get little attention. Not the case here, multiple servers would check in on me. As I watched the floor, I could tell this was just the culture of the business. My server and another one that waited on me confirmed this, they talked about they all covered for each other as well as managers and owners jumping in to bus tables and help, and doing it happily. They talked about how different it is working in this environment vs other places. Kudos to the staff, owners and managers!

I ordered the Sicilian pepperoni pizza, which was a large portion and tasted very good, although it appeared to have been sitting in the case for much of the day. How you make a meat lover's with no flavor, I'll never know, but here we are. Then out came the finale - the chicken parmigiana pasta entree, which also came with 2 garlic knots. (Don't get me started on those - more to come about that.) As for the chicken parm, we got a decent amount of food - which we absolutely should for $25, but the chicken itself was dry as could be, hard to even cut through & - to keep on topic - had ZERO flavor. The pasta itself, just the same - dry, no flavor, & you could tell it was boiled in water with NO salt. Just dry, limp, tasteless noodles. The sauce is harder to deconstruct, as we DIDN'T get any! I am being slightly facetious, as you can tell by the picture posted with this review that there is in fact a modicum of sauce on the plate, but sparingly too little for the amount of food. We badly needed sauce to help the entire dish from not being so dang dry that it was hard to swallow, but alas - not much by way of tomato puree on our plate. Back to those garlic knots I mentioned earlier: dry, bland, & didn't taste like garlic at all. Just a big lump of dry dough, slightly covered in some type of oil that didn't taste like butter, a tiny sprinkle of parm on top, and - while these 2 came with our pasta entree - THIS is what they want to charge their patrons $12.50 for?!?!?!?! Every other pizzeria establishment in Mt Juliet carries garlic knots. The prices at ANY other italian/pizzeria spot? About $6 - usually for even more knots than the 4 you get here. So WHAT ON EARTH justifies the exorbitant price here? I have no idea, because they weren't good when they were free with the entree, much less if we'd spent $14 for an appetizer order of them after tax. Holy crap. Pass. ALL of their prices are OUT OF CONTROL. At that point we were just ready to leave, to which we got one final parting shot from the aforementioned rude teenager, which really settled the matter on whether or not we'd be coming back (spoiler alert: we will not). When we had finally had enough of the dry, bland, seasonless food, saw that our rude girl was helping other tables, we opted to get up, walk to the front cashier spot. Not impatiently, we weren't in a hurry. One of the nice guys we barely got a chance to speak with earlier saw us waiting, came over, & started attempting to check us out as best he could. One of my favorite restaurants growing up was this family Italian joint called Carmine's. My…read morefavorite thing to order there was what they called spaghetti with meatballs. But, speaking to that, it had a couple of intersting aspects. One, they would literally give you 10-20% more if you ordered that dish to go because their to-go containers when filled were noticeably larger than the dishes your entrees came on. And, two, their "spaghetti" was actually linguine and is 100% the reason linguine is my favorite noodle when it comes to traditional rope pasta. I told you that to tell you this, Fayzano's "linguine" is definitely fettuccine. Those noodles were super wide. Not that that's a huge deal, but much like getting linguine when you're expecting spaghetti, the mouth feel for fettuccine is not the same as the mouth feel for linguine. It holds the sauce different, it retains the clams different, and the proportion of sauce to pasta is super different. I mean--it was good. Clams in red sauce will always be my preferred go-to order, but I still would've rather had the skinnier flat noodles of a linguine than a super wide fettuccine noodle. It's just more satisfying to me. The service here was good. They got our food quickly and with minimum banter. And then they got out of the way, checking in maybe every five to ten minutes, which is the perfect amount. The ambiance was good. It's a good neighborhood pizza and pasta joint like Carmine's. It's not very big but it has a lot of spacing between the tables as not to feel cramped up in there. It's also deceptively laid out to feel fuller than it is, which is nice. It gives the whole place a nice energy. I still wish thru had real linguine, but if that's my chief complaint then you know this place is doing something right.
