To get away when I was off work after 10-hour days in testing sites, the husband and I were going to Vegas monthly and I thought, hey, maybe I should just get my hair done here in Vegas. I started by checking out reviews for the Wynn salon since we were staying there at the time. When I read the reviews all the good ones talked about Paul and how amazing he was. I started doing some research. Who is Paul? Is he still at the Wynn? No. Where is he? Found him. I called Paul Juma and made an appt for the following month when I was returning to Vegas. BEST. DECISION. EVER. On my first visit, I went in with an idea of what I wanted, but we talked about it and decided to use my base color to brighten and low light/highlight to a really pretty natural color and he chopped off all my ragged, uneven ends, leaving me with lightweight hair, that styled easily into my standard do or into new styles. I LOVED IT! Plus, it was a really enjoyable experience. I'm not really that social, but I enjoyed chatting with Paul during my visit and we talked about food, and wine and travel... all of my favorite topics! The price was right and it was a fantastic experience overall. I know it seems weird to go out of state to get your hair done, but apparently, this is pretty usual for Paul and his clientele, so I'm now on the client list and I see Paul every other month. On the one hand, its kinda crazy to fly or drive to Las Vegas every other month for a hair-do, but besides it giving me an excuse to get my Vegas on every other month, Paul is amazing. He's taught me how to dry my hair better, how to clean my brushes, how to keep curls with my round brush and the cold button on my hair dryer, introduced me to Olaplex and overall, my hair is healthier, more styleable, and overall awesome. During our visits, we talk about travel and music and sometimes we watch tv shows or movies or concerts! He shares fruit from his backyard trees with me. I mean, he's my hair stylist and he's the best I've ever used, but he's also interesting and entertaining and engaging. I've recommended two other friends to him who have seen him as well, and I will recommend him to ANYONE who is looking for the absolute BEST colorist/stylist. NO CHECKERBOARDS!!!!! Oh, and I didn't mention the hair extensions! He is an absolute EXPERT in hair extensions. He uses micro products and high-quality hair. You simply cannot find a better hair expert. The dye left visible staining along my hairline, temples/sideburn area, and behind my ears, which I wasn't informed about until after everything was done and I saw it in the mirror. The stylist did try to remove it, but it didn't come off easily, so I left with noticeable staining on my skin. I understand that things can happen, especially with different products, but I do wish there had been more communication in the moment and a more thorough final check/cleanup before I left the salon, especially since the staining was visible in multiple areas. Unfortunately, I'm not very comfortable waiting for it to fade on its own, and I'm also not inclined to return for a future service. Before booking, I specifically asked Bonnie whether she had experience working with Black skin. She confirmed that she did. Her technique and product choices did not reflect any real familiarity with deeper skin tones, I even gave her my own foundation but that didn't help and we were ultimately left to do our own makeup. What concerns me most is not the skill gap itself, every artist has limitations, but the lack of honesty when asked directly. Misrepresenting your experience to a client is a serious breach of trust, particularly in the beauty industry where your work is tied to someone's most meaningful moments. I also noticed that other makeup artists present did not appear to recognize Bonnie as part of the local Vegas makeup community, which raised further red flags. We were fortunate to be members of the bridal party and not the bride herself otherwise she could have really ruined someone's special day. Bonnie please be transparent about your experience level with diverse skin tones. Honesty and transparency should be the foundation of any client relationship.
