We had a good time. Kayaks were so so. For the money kayaks should be in better shape. They gave no help launching.

The company's website says you are required to cover your face at the canoe rental and while on the bus. They are not enforcing this. When my group was the only group wearing masks on the bus, I asked if they are enforcing the mask policy. The employee haphazardly said "if you aren't wearing a mask we are going to assume you have a medical condition." I guess the entire bus except my group had a medical condition. Staff doesn't help get you in the water or your canoe even remotely close to the river. If you're lucky, they'll forget your canoe and you get to hang out there until they decide to bring you one. Staff rarely have their masks on. If you're at all worried about following protocols, don't go. If you have trouble dragging a canoe including down stairs, don't go. Otherwise you'll have a dandy good time. read more

Although we had an absolute blast, we were never apprised about the dangerous conditions on the river. It was running high and fast. There was debris EVERYWHERE and conditions were hazardous, to say the least. We capsized twice, even though I'm experienced with canoeing.....and there went our life preservers and one paddle. Fortunately, others who were on the river were kind enough to grab them and return them. It would have been wonderful to have a river guide somewhere along the trip and some instruction for those inexperienced with canoeing. I realize that the waiver states the risks, but many don't bother to fully read or comprehend what they are about to undertake. Safety was definitely not taken into consideration. Choose this place since the pricing was on shorter end for tandem kayak. We chose to wear masks although we seemed to be the only ones. The driver did but pulled it down as he talked. Everything was cool and awesome, as any other canoe/kayak place, tons of people, water, and sunshine. My only complaint is that some staff members came across stuck up and rude, could be because of age, but some acted like it was too much of a task to answer a question. Staff was super at the livery. Check in was easy and quick. I was pretty disappointed with the drop off. Once we arrived at drop off, very little direction. I think this was the largest number of customers dropped off at a put in I have ever seen. Since there were no instructions, we waited politely as the crew unloaded boats. After about 10 minutes we realized it was a grab a boat in the frenzy but, by then we were stuck with one sit-on-top and 2 sit inside kayaks. Thought we had rented 3 sit insides but, hey it worked. Then the wait....As soon as the boats were unloaded, staff was gone leaving us to fend for ourselves getting on the water. 45 minute wait while inexperienced paddlers, families and others got on the water. No help from staff instructing or directing because they were gone. The quality of the equipment was subpar in my opinion. The kayak I got had no foot pegs, the paddles were all like 135's or bigger...Way to long for a lot of people. Had the weather not been perfect and the river running hard and fast, I think this review might be different but, Mother Nature saved the day. Needless to say, I was lazy this day and decided to rent rather than load and use my boats and equipment. I now realize in the future, load and use my own boats. read more

Was able to rent a canoe and kayaks for the family Labor Day and we had a blast. Fast, easy and accommodating for our need of a 3 seat canoe. The river wasn't crowded and we floated at our leisure. The river was low in several places but that's not the fault of Bellbrook. We still had a fabulous time and good stretch of the river to enjoy. Will go again. read more

I find it absolutely absurd to allow people to rent canoes when you (the ownership) KNOW that the water is too low. I looked all over online for river conditions or low water warnings and found nothing. I mistakenly assumed the business wouldn't rent equipment when it CANNOT be used safely or effectively. We were told the water was low as we got on the bus and that we may have to get out a few times to get through the shallows. What really happened? We basically took a canoe for a walk. We walked at least 1.5 of the 5.2 miles. read more

Overall a good value for the money, friendly staff, etc. The only thing I would point out is that we are told to be at the site 40 minutes before the time we've scheduled to start. The staff wasn't there and we weren't processed until about 10 minutes before starting time. Not a big deal overall but that kept me from giving 5 stars. read more

Definitely recommend! The trip took about 3 hours. Wasn't sure how nice it was going to be by the reviews but the place was great! The river was fantastic. 1) The instructions to be at the business 40 minutes early is not well advertised. I know now. 2) Their website says everyone has to have masks on (covid-19) while on bus and at the rental site. My group were the only ones wearing a mask. No staff had masks on either and they didn't tell anyone to put them on. 3) The company drops you off at The Narrows, which is steep and hard to get in without help. Would have been more helpful it the staff would actually help get you in the water. Other than that, it was a wonderful time. I didn't feel rushed to get back. It would have been helpful to have mike markers so we knew how much longer we had so we could have adjusted our time. The kayaks and paddles were in decent shape. read more

They just endded up dropping everyone off and no one stayed to help get people into the water. So it ends up being me and another person helping just to get people moving. The customer service at Rivers Edge is way better and the people friendlier. Stick with them. read more

This was my first experience canoeing and I must say, I had a blast. The cost was $45.00 (plus tax) and I thought for the money, we got a great experience. I would like to recommend a little instruction on which end is front and which end of canoe is back., nothing was said when they dropped us off. They just dumped the canoe onthe side and it was up to us to figure it all out. I did like the freedom of getting to take our time getting back., the guy on the bus told us that it would take anywhere from 1 -2 hours, but we had 7 hours to get back. Overall pretty laid back environment., but was shocked that we were the only ones wearing masks, including employees. Our state recommends it and thought employees were supposed to wear them. ? read more

This was the only place around us that took reservations which we really appreciated since we weren't interested in waiting for an hour or so to get on the water. The staff was friendly & helpful. They were running a bit behind schedule but were upfront about it & got us on back track quickly. Everything was great, only wish there was an employee there to help customers get their canoes in the boat. There were quite a few older people around us that struggling to get into the boat so it took awhile for us to finally get in the canoe because we were trying to help the people in front of us. Rented a canoe with a friend on a Saturday morning. Arrived at 9:30 and was heading out at 10:00 when they take you and your canoe to The Narrows for launch upstream. Very peaceful and relaxing...even saw a few deer in the shallow water getting a drink. You could paddle at your own pace as you weren't expected back until evening if you wanted to stop & swim, picnic or just chill. The price was $39 for the 2 of us to rent the canoe for the day which included your life jacket. I'll be back! read more

Great trip on the river. Rented a tandem kayak with backrests was super. Entry location down muddy huge steps was a bit challenging but the staff was helpful. Trip was quiet and serene with hundreds of turtles on downed trees. Staff was lukewarm on arrival. Owner, who we met at departure, was very friendly. I grew up about 3 miles from this place and have gone out of here literally hundreds of times. This past Sunday, was the worst experience. I had made a reservation for 8 and only 6 were able to go because of an unexpected emergency, they said they would not refund same day cancelations so fine, I ate $60 bucks. Then another man accidentally booked his trip for the following week and the older man, I think the owner, literally yelled at him. I don't know why, it was just a mistake, plus there were 2 openings anyhow because of the 2 in my party who couldn't make it. The staff were all a bunch of grumps. Once we got to the Narrows everyone had to more or less fend for themselves getting their kayaks/canoes, which doesn't bother me because I am physically able and don't mind. However, there were older people and young children who needed help and the staff wasn't willing to lend a hand. In fact, my friends and I stayed at the launch ramp for at least 45 minutes carrying kayaks and canoes and helping everyone in. Once we finally got on the river, the trip itself was great. When we returned, to no surprise we did not get any help getting our kayaks out of the water. It's a shame the the man who runs it is so grumpy, he really puts a damper on what can be a fabulous day on the beautiful LMR. I know when Charlie was there, he never acted like that. Although it is quite a bit further for me to drive, Adventures on the Great Miami up in Tipp is owned by a very friendly guy named Chris and his staff is a great group who makes it a much better experience for all. To me it is worth the extra 30 minutes to drive. read more

Enjoyed a relaxing afternoon kayaking down the river. Everything went very smoothly from making a reservation to check in to getting on the bus and getting in the river. I arranged a kayak trip for my husband's birthday. It was for the two of us and our kids aged 8 and 10. We had a great trip just the four of us. Putting in and getting out went smoothly and there was a gentle stream of water throughout. We saw a deer, ducks, and a lot of birds and pretty trees. I do wish the teenagers riding the bus with us had been seated for their own safety as I can't always turn off my mom brain. read more

The people who own this place should be ashamed. I hope them and their family gets carried off by ants to be put in their own canoes and ride down this stupid river for eternity. The river is so shallow that we had to constantly get out and push the canoes, there was a deer corpse just sitting along the river, the canoe constantly got stuck, and it took around 5 hours to get to the end. I was canoeing with my brother and we each want through all the stages of grief at least twice along this river and an hour before the end I wished I had a gun with me to put a bullet in my own head. We had a ton of fun! We got a groupon which made the price insanely reasonable. Even without the groupon their prices are still pretty great! All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. You take a short bus ride up to a park where they bid you bon voyage and send you on your happy way in one of their cool water vessels. We chose a canoe for two. The view was beautiful and we took our time leisurely paddling down the river and taking in the sites, sounds, and smells of the river. I saw a lot of people with coolers. Alcohol is prohibited on all Ohio waterways but...that didn't seem to stop many. We were good boys and girls and sipped on water throughout the ride. Definitely bring water!!!! The trip down the river was about 2 hours. We were not in a rush but we didn't really stop and get out anywhere either. It was the perfect pace...mostly because we set it :) Why not 5 stars you ask? I wish they would have a chalkboard or verbally tell you what the river conditions are. There has been a drought but I didn't think it would affect the river this bad. There were parts that there was ankle deep water (maybe even less). We had to get out and push the canoe because our butts were too big to float over. It got a little frustrating to be reminded for the 5th time that I am carrying a few extra pounds. On a serious note I do have back problems so fortunately I had my big strong husband to push us to a spot where we were at least able to float again. Pheeew! I knew I married him for a reason!!!! Overall, we will definitely be back! Hopefully when the river is a little higher though! read more

Friendly staff - but a great addition to the service would be some assistance getting the kayaks into the water at The Narrows. Without the help of fellow kayakers, I'm not sure we would have made it into the kayak without getting soaked in the cold water, or losing the kayak to the current. read more

The bus driver was reckless, she drove the bus so fast that at many times while taking turns the bus was on three wheels. The staff was also very rude. the bus driver was the main concern do to the fact that she should not have her license. seeing that it takes a class B to operate a school bus I am pretty sure she does not have one and if she does she should lose it. So the first time we went they took our money, because it was thundering and lightening. We were told that they let people canoe on a body of water when it's lightening and wouldn't let us reschedule. That was our first experience our second experience was slightly better if you negate the fact that Mario Andretti was driving the bus with canoes on the back way to fast to the point that we almost lost a canoe completely. Definitely was a scary bus ride. Then we requested sit in kayaks and they said they would have them for us and when we arrived at the river after several panic and anxiety attacks due to the piss poor driving they didn't have the canoes we asked for. We gave them a second chance and overall a pretty crappy place. read more

The trip on the river was good... that was about it! Initial greeting from the staff was non-existent, no good morning, no thanks for choosing us, and didn't provide any direction or instructions once we arrived. When I asked where the paddles were at, I was told "down there" like I was an idiot and should have known. Then they asked where are your life jackets, like we should have known to grab them. Then as we were loading up, we were standing off on the side of the grass as one of the workers was moving a small bus, and rudely told us "MOVE".... Bottom line, we felt like a hindrance the entire time. The staff was rude and ungrateful from the get go.. on the bus, on drop off, dropped the canoes off and left, without providing any direction or instructions. I wish I would have not wasted my money at this place. Absolutely no customer service or respect. Go elsewhere, same cost and hopefully better service! read more

We very much enjoyed the stretch of river we canoed down! If you are into social distancing though you won't find it here. People were crammed onto the busses with no masks and no open windows. This was the most inexpensive canoe rental location in the area so we said let's go for it! We missed the statement at the bottom of the confirmation email that says to be there at least 40 minutes before your reservation. Our fault, but definitely something that should be more prominent through the booking process online and on the confirmation emails. So keep that in mind! They were really nice about it and got us rescheduled for a later trip. Wonderful people at the livery. The river in that section was pretty rough and we found ourselves constantly having to paddle and strategize to keep from being swept into debris scattered in the water. Definitely not a good section of river for leisurely paddles for people inexperienced in canoeing or more used to kayaking like myself. But that's not on the livery at all! Would go again if I'm up for a challenging paddle. read more

Fun on the river, but the experience to begin was stressful (if you care at all about precautionary guidelines right now). Patrons were not required to wear masks, so only half of the people standing around waiting and then on the bus had them on. None of the employees wore masks, except the bus driver AFTER he was done talking to everyone to give them the rundown. Didn't see any sort of sanitation measures taken for the paddles and equipment. Everyone just grabbed whatever. I was pretty disappointed for an outdoor recreation facility to do so poorly in an area where it wouldn't even be much effort. read more
