WOW... I'm stuffed. Great food and great service. I had 3 huge catfish fillets that tasted great. They were also will cooked. We had tenders and the fried chicken. The sides were great too. Green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The best part of the meal by far were the yeast rolls. If you add butter to them....Oh Boy! Portions were great and everything was well seasoned. When we are in Abilene this place will definitely be on our list of places to eat. read more

Stopped by traveling to AZ just to try the Chicken. Grand parents owned a restaurant and bar that had broasted chicken and you don't see much cooked this way anymore but however Belles does it was one of the best yard bird I've tasted! read more

This was a most pleasant surprise! We went in at noon, on a really hot and bright day, so it took our eyes awhile to adjust to the dimly lit barnlike, rustic dinning room. We walked past the desserts on the way to our table, but unfortunately they didn't register since we were trying to not stumble. Anyway, once we were seated our very friendly server informed us that all we needed to choose were our entrees because the side come family style, until you yell "Uncle!" The yeast rolls were amazingly good -fresh and hot! We ordered fried catfish and fried chicken. Both were generous portions, fried to perfection! The veggies, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, corn off the cob, and green beans were the perfect comfort foods. The fried chicken, chicken fried steak and chicken dumpling heaven!! This place is like sanctuary in an industrial park. Totally family style restaurant and serve mass amount of sides. The fried chicken and chicken fried steak were so juicy and crispy. I love their homemade mustard sauce with my fried chicken. I don't like chicken dumpling personally but their chicken dumpling were amazing. The biscuits, sorghum and rich butter were the best combination. All the sides were just as good. The banana pudding and coconut pudding were the killer. The lastly, the service is top notch. All the ppl were super friendly and sweet. we love our waitress, Robin. It has been a few weeks since my visit to Belle's but I do remember the good food and friendly staff. The manager/owner personally came by to make sure everything was satisfactory. The way it works here, is you order our entree (chicken friend steak, chicken and dumplings, chicken tenders, etc) and then the unlimited sides are served family style (green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and fresh rolls). Great homemade cooking. Part of the tradition, I guess, is at some point during my visit, the entire waitstaff lines up to sing the Village People classic, Y M C A, with motions, while the management looks on to critique. Overall, good place and good food. It is not a place that I would eat at every week, but once a month or so would be a nice treat. read more

We asked to be moved, and the accomodated! We ordered our food, All was good... UNTIL the waitress in the sparkly base ball cap showed up! "HELLO GIRLS!! Heck my sister is 60, I'm 59!!!! Been a VERY LONG TIME SINCE WE HAVE BEEN "GIRLS!!!" I was taken aback because the previous waitress was very respectful. So, when our first waitress came by and asked us how we were doing, I expressed my dipleasure of being called "girls", when that waitress was possibly younger than us! I told our original waitress our ages and our experiences! She apologized! We accepted. Sparkly hat did not come back to our table! Thank goodness, because I am not known to hold my tough! Now to the concept..you pick a meat entree, and you get unlimited family sides...mashed potatoes, corn, green beans...gravy if you get the chicken fried steak, and unlimited rolls and drinks! My sister chose the fried chicken, I chose the chicken fried steak. The CORN WAS AMAZING!!! The chicken was great! The chicken fried steak tasted of OLD old! Time to change the oil! I did not care for the other sides! Now get this, you can take your leftover meat in a "doggy bag"! AND THEY MEAN BAG! Plastic bag! They remove the sides from the table, throw them in the trash, and allow you to take the meat home in a plastic bag! All leftovers after service are also put in the garbage! This past weekend my family reserved the John Wayne room at Belle's in Abilene, Texas. Belle's is a family style restaurant, with bottomless sides (which are great) and a few entrees - most of which are chicken. Two things, the food is good and if you leave hungry it's your fault, the portions are ridiculous. That being said, the rating I'm giving has nothing to do with the food. My granddaughter is a little picky when it comes to food, and wasn't interested in anything Belle's offered. The manager asked her what she wanted and she said tomatoes, which they don't have. He went to his house and took tomatoes from his own garden, cleaned them and brought them to her - she ate them all by the way. So, while the food was good and they even had songs and entertainment for the kids, the manager and his staff make this a place you must visit. We will make this a regular stop when visiting Abilene in the future. read more

A must stop if you're in the area and have a BIG appetite. Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak get top billing but there's also roasted chicken and fried fish on the menu. The sides are served family style and are unlimited. Fresh baked rolls are served warm with plenty of butter and honey. We get a lot of chicken fried steak here in Texas so you gotta be a little more critical here. They say they use filet mignon and the meat is pretty tender but the batter to meat overwhelms the steak a bit. Fried chicken was good of course but the batter didn't seem to be seasoned much...with salt or pepper or anything. So here's the thing, they serve up pretty good comfort food in a family style setting so you can visit with your company. Came here for dinner last night and was blown away! The aesthetics of the place are awesome, very cool country feel! When I walked in the servers were dancing to the YMCA, which was hysterical! We were then seated and greeted by our server with fresh, hot bread (delicious). Our server could not get over the fact that my Mom and I, being from up north, had never had chicken fried steak. To our surprise the manager, Corey, came out and surprised us with some chicken fried steak to try! So nice! The manager also remembered our names as we left the restaurant, truly great customer service. The chicken fried steak was good but still weird for me... I'm not used to it! I got the chicken tenders and my mom got the catfish, both were great. What I really liked was that the breading and frying was light and not greasy at all. They also make their own honey mustard, so good! The meat came with unlimited sides: Corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. I particularly loved the corn. When we walked in, country music was playing softly and the waitresses were singing Happy Birthday to someone. What a fun, hometown atmosphere! The restrooms were clean too! Since it was our first time there, our sweet waitress explained things to us. You pick your meat. Then your meal consist of it, mashed potatoes, cream corn, the best green beans ever and gravy. You can take your meat home, what you don't eat but no sides. You get refills on the sides and can have all you can eat of them. My husband and I both ordered chicken fried steak. The steak was huge! I guess I just don't understand the hype behind Belle's Chicken. I have several friends who dine here frequently so I assumed it's good. I joined a friend there for lunch and I wish we had gone somewhere else. The place looks and feels dirty. While the chicken is decent, I can't say the same about the side dishes. Mushy canned green beans and boxed mashed potatoes. If that's your thing, then you might enjoy this place. As for me, that was the first and the last time I ate there. read more

Check your receipt folks, theres been a STEEP increase! Building is deteriorating. They CONSISTENTLY run out of tenders and other menu items around 1pm on weekends! Perhaps we're not ordering enough, hm?? Eh, who cares. Hostess never informs guests of out menu items when asking for a table either! Long waits. Want to take leftover chicken? Heres a PLASTIC SACK! We just can't risk you trying to take these sides were gonna trash and have 3 whole dollars invested in but charged you 10. Abruptly began disallowing phone orders. No transition of informing customers, no courtesy, nada. Already on the phone to ask about the changes? Order REFUSED! They cite lack of employment as the reason though they're obviously full staff when you go in! Believe we saw about 30 employees on our last visit and one at the register staring a hole into the wall so... The ONLY method of putting in an order before arriving at the restaurant is ONLINE! Can't figure it out? Drive to the restaurant and WAIT (for them to probably run out of what you wanted to order)! Not everyone is in a position to navigate the CUMBERSOME, 12 step, online process each and every time they order i.e. driving through without a copilot. Many older folks can't or won't navigate online orders. To top it off mgmt has the nerve to say they're doing it to "help you" as youre out the door with A SINGLE ROLL per order (that are now half the size they once were) and itty bitty side portions for the same price as dining in! Its all about them not wanting to deal with the phone while making extra $ off to gos to boot! You mean you dont feel HELPED by this? Then there's no ticket on the bag to check the order against at pickup, so who knows if its accurate. Lost our business and probably that of many other regulars! read more
