I don't know exactly what has happened to some of the foods I have had here recently. The one in particular I am going to mention is the cold salad plate. I had it myself a couple of weeks ago, and could overhear another customer complaining about the taste earlier this week. I don't know exactly how one makes a bland and tasteless macaroni salad, but they have done it at Bellevue Cafe! Some onions and celery would help flavor it up, along with some judiciously used herbs and salt and pepper. The "mayo" it is made with is tasteless too. Just a huge disappointment. Chicken salad and tuna salad are strange and hard to tell them apart. Again, onions, celery, herbs and salt and pepper could do a lot. It's not something I will be ordering again, for sure. I will say that their baked apples (like eating a pie without the crust), and their pickled beets are outstanding, though. read more

Great little diner. Stopped in for dinner. Had typical diner fair: burgers, etc. the portions were generous. They had a large specials menu that looked very good. The waitress was nice, but never offered refills on drinks and disappears for a while. I'd return if I was in the area again for its sizable menu and cleanliness. read more

Use to Love eating here but lately things have changed. New wait staff not the best and quality of food is slipping. I ordered cream of chicken soup that came to me looking like a bowl of just thickened rice, definitely was not soup no broth at all. Standard diner fare. They move you in and out pretty quick. Especially on weekends with big breakfast crowds. I've only been here for breakfast, but probably at least a dozen times. Really inexpensive for big helpings. My fav hash browns in town. Crispy, shaved potatoes that are well seasoned. Yum! One of my go-to spots for breakfast when upstate. read more

Great food, great service! We came here on a Saturday morning at 10:30. We immediately got a booth, and drinks. The menu is simple but has variety. Prices are really good, and he portion of food is great. The waitresses all work together which makes service smooth. We love that this is a mom and pop kind of place, with a nice local atmosphere. read more

Once you find your own seat, you'll be 'greeted' by your waitress. Very friendly and personable...wait, no...it's all a rush. The push people through, so you get your food and drinks quick, but wow! I think we spent a total of 42sec with our waitress taking our three orders. The food arrives in under 5 minutes! Super fast! That was great. The hash browns were mushy and I don't believe that they season their food when it's cooked. Great for the older crowd, I suppose...but not for my taste buds! Haha. Nothing a lot of ketchup and salt & pepper couldn't fix! The wheat toast was good! The 3 egg ham & cheese omelette was good, when flavor was added. All in all, the Sunday morning breakfast was ok considering Broadway Lunch is closed on Sundays. No refills offered on our Coke, Tea, or even the water. If given the choice of eating here again, or two blocks away at Broadway Lunch (yes, they have breakfast!), we'll take Broadway Lunch every time. Now, in a pinch on Sunday morning with no other options, we'd eat here again. The price was good ($30 for 3 including tip), the food was ok, the service was 'meh' at best. read more

My wife and I go here regularly. They make killer soup which is always homemade. Their lunch and dinner specials are a bargain. My all time favorites are saulsbury steak and stuffed cabbage. My wife insists that their chicken parmesan is better than the local Italian restaurants. Beware of a young blonde waitress named Tiffany, she has a major additude! Get this: for $6.75, you can have a cup of H.M. soup (choose from 4), a half a roasted chicken with broiled taters, and a choice of tapioca, jello or chocolate pudding! Yes, $6.75. It was Greek style chicken, perfectly roasted, falling off the bone, juicy, flavorful with lemon, garlic, O.O., and crisped potato- finished off with tasty tapioca.The vegetable barley soup was good not great, but my gosh, it was so much food and pleasantly served. I like this place very much for what it is- a 60's throwback diner with 60's prices. Bread slices come individually wrapped in saran- go figure. I take it all as part of a peculiar charm. Rotterdam is a blue collar town that feels like it is dying. Well, it is after G.E. pulled out and so many people lost their jobs. This is a local little diner, where people can go to get some comfort food that won't hurt the wallet. All the food passing by my table looked delicious. Triple decker sandwiches or burgers seem popular here. Across the street, is a charming little Italian deli that sells very good bread. Clean comfortable family owned and operated diner in the Bellevue area. Have been here many many times back when I worked nearby and it was a fav for lunch for me and my staff. Everything is homemade soups are included with almost everything. The specials are cheap with good size portions, the staff is friendly and efficient - not just one waitress per table they all help each other expedite proficiently, Perfect place to take my handicap mother because it is small and we can park right in front of the door and its just a few quick steps inside and to a table. Highly recommend for some cheap yet substantial eats that beats having to cook and clean my own kitchen some nights. Much cheaper than Top's with limited evening hours - they close at 8pm. read more

very disappointed that they do not understand food allergies! I am gluten free and need to take care of myself which I understand but they tried to remove the season fries by talking them off the plate and still giving me the same food. A waitress there has the same allergy and you would think in today's time with the number of people who have allergies they would be more sensitive to "our" needs. There was not one soup out of three that I could eat, either cream or noodles..... Yes people are happy there because the portions size and specials are great for the average person but really now, can't we get with the times and meet the needs of everyone! As far as diners go this one steals the show! An absolute must! There homemade soup and bread start every meal right. We've not had better soup anywhere! The dinners are huge portions and we've not had one bad thing yet. The chicken soulaki salad is HUGE and one of our favorites. The lunch time specials are not smaller portions (dessert includied) and there is always a crowd. I eat at the Bellevue Cafe several times a month with coworkers and my wife. By far the best diner in the Capital District! The food is homemade and delicious and the soups are "Soup Nazi" good. The servers are all great (especially Tiffany) and the owners really know how to run a diner. I have never had a bad meal or bad experience. read more

The Bellevue Cafe is an exceptional diner. You are greeted and seated right away, even when there is a line out the door you won't have to wait long. And it is well worth the wait if you do find a line at the door! The servers are fast and friendly. You get a big bowl of the most delicious soup in town, along with a basket of bread, butter, and crackers when you order any of the lunch or dinner specials. The specials are very reasonably priced and you will not leave hungry. The portions are generous, to say the least. I always leave with leftovers. You also get dessert with the specials, usually tapioca or rice pudding or jello. They also have awesome cheesecake. The chefs salad is huge and the Greek salad with chicken is awesome too. Linda O I have had breakfast and lunch (2visits). The fries that came with my sandwich were actually crispy and light. Not those wimpy, mealy things you get other places. The fried potatoes with my eggs were tasty and also had some crispy bits. The staff are super friendly. It reminds me of small town diners where everyone knows everyone. After dining here at least once a week for 5 years, I am not dining here anymore. As the prices have risen, the service and food have gone downhill. On my most recent visit, the table had not been cleaned before it was reset. A passerby almost knocked my drink off the table before I moved it away from the edge where the server (Tiffany) placed it. The once excellent cream soups (broccoli and mushroom) have become cream of carrot with pieces of broccoli and mushroom. When I finished my entrée, my server ignored me for over 10 minutes while she chatted with other customers. Another server noticed me and brought my dessert and check. Neither she or the original server cleared the entrée dishes or refilled my drink. Fortunately we have many other choices in the Schenectady area. read more

Had dinner here last evening. Ordered minestra for the soup and Greek chicken and roasted potatoes for the entree. The minestra was unlike anything I had ever seen before. First it was thick. It had the beans. Plus carrots, broccoli stems and various other unidentifiable vegetables. It tasted (and smelled) like overcooked broccoli. Perhaps they put the 4 souips from the previous day together and hoped no one would notice. The "Greek" chicken forgot the Greek. It was nothing more than plain, underseasoned roast chicken. No lemon. No oregano. Just dry roast chicken. The roasted potatoes were not browned, but they were the best part of the meal. Came here for breakfast one Sunday and was pleasantly surprised! Instead of a hostess seating customers they yell at you across the room when a table is ready. Seems kind of abrupt at first, but once you are there for awhile you realize it adds to the charm of the place. I had an omelet with spinach and feta cheese. Normally I add massive amount of hot sauce to add flavor to omelets but with this one I didn't need any! I'm not a huge breakfast person but I was happy with my meal! I have been to Bellevue Cafe many times for breakfast. The breakfasts have always been on par with other local diner's and cafe's. But, nothing ever stood out as exceptional to me. I would rate the breakfast at Bellevue Cafe to be at 4 to 5 stars. On November 16, my wife and I went in for a late dinner at around 7:30 PM. She ordered a spinach omelette with toast, home fries and a side of bacon. Her meal was as expected (very good, not outstanding). I ordered the chicken and broccoli in Alfredo sauce over fettuccine. My meal came with choice of soup and a side salad. For the soup, I chose the New England clam chowder. It came out in a fairly large bowl and was quite good. The side salad was fresh and crisp, with a lightly flavored Italian dressing which was delicious. After the soup and salad, I was already feeling a little full. Then our waitress brought out my main course! It was a hub cap sized bowl of the absolute best fettuccine Alfredo that I've ever had in my life! I ate about half of it and was comfortably full. But, it was so good that I couldn't stop eating it! The chicken was lightly breaded and seasoned, then sauteed to perfection. The broccoli was steamed to slightly aldente' perfection. The Alfredo sauce was a perfect blend of cream, garlic and cheeses. It is not a heavy sauce. It is not a thin runny sauce. The sauce had a perfect consistency! The flavor combination was truly SPECTACULAR! I would order it again and again! The next time I order it, I will skip the soup and salad so that I'll be able to enjoy the Alfredo even more! I go here all the time and the food is always pretty good. I like lunch there the best, they have good specials. Once in a while you can even snag a good prime rib special here. Enjoy the diner style experience with good food and decent prices. It can get really busy in here however, but the staff is pretty accommodating during these times. read more

On 1/ 8/2014, I went to this restaurant for dinner. I ordered a turkey dinner with rice instead of potatoes. The stufing was absolutely terrible. It looked like soupy carrots. I've never seen so many carrots in stuffing. The turkey was fair and the rice had a hard lump of uncooked rice in the middle of the bowl. The gravey and most of the meal was cold and not seasoned. My friend ordered zitti with meat sauce. This came with no meat sauce and cold. We asked our waitress if we could have our food heated up and she said well I suppose so. I asked twice for a straw and napkins. My friends water glass was dirty. There were 4 very young ladies serving food. These ladies were more interested in a young man at the counter than they were serving the customers. I ended up eating only the turkey. Also the bread was very stale. What a waste of $23.00 read more
