I had cosmetic surgery paid cash and spent the night due to the length of the procedure. The day nurse as well as night nurse were very delightful.I was discharged the following day at 1230 pm waiting for my husband to pick me up. The day RN was all but cold to me obviously more interested in dealing with mother baby patients.. Even had the nerve to ask me if I needed the plastic surgery or did I just want it.I felt very insulted. She offered no assistance with locating my husband or showing guidance in the process. I even asked her if they took me out in a wheel chair ect... Her response was "you walk in you walk out" I am an RN myself and was horrified with her treatment. I took my belongings and tried finding my way to the lobby, I was very light headed and weak two staff members noticed I was not doing well and questioned me why I wasn't in a wheelchair, I told them what the nurse had said , they righted her wrong and were extremely apologetic. read more

I love the care Bellevue gives and comfort for patient during delivery but they really need to provide better accommodations for family. I have been 4 times and had to beg for uncomfortable recliner chair. My daughter there now for my 5th grandson and they don't even have that uncomfortable recliner for dad. read more

I gave birth to my first child at Bellevue. Prior to that, my fiancé and I attended the Prepared Childbirth, Breastfeeding, and Infant CPR classes on site. All were well done and informative, taught by knowledgeable staff. When I arrived, I had to check in at the front desk and fill out paperwork, even though I was very obviously in labor. Annoying, considering I had preregistered to avoid this. Labor and delivery could not have gone better. The room was comfortable and quiet. All nurses (especially Beth) and Dr. Tang the anesthesiologist were amazing and so supportive. I was handed my son right away and got lots of skin to skin time. I wish I could've stayed on the l&d floor for the rest of my stay because the recovery floor was not so great. The bed was older than dirt and just as uncomfortable. I actually slept in the recliner the second night. The room itself was noisy. I could hear everything going on in the hallway and next door, all day and night. The shower was smaller than what you'd find on a cruise ship... not fun for a new mom in pain. Staff was mostly good. Our night nurse was apathetic, but our day nurse (I wish I could remember her name!) was fantastic. Dr. Levine and Patti the lactation consultant were also great and spent a lot of time with us to explain everything in detail. The food was actually really good (mac and cheese!), but I wish food for spouses was free. Poor fiance got less sleep than I did; paying for meals just added insult to injury. I was disappointed that I wasn't wheeled out and had to walk out. I mean really? Two days postpartum? I barely made it to the car parked right outside the front door. I did appreciate the Halo Sleepsack parting gift though, that thing was a lifesaver the first few months. Despite its flaws, I'd recommend having your baby at Bellevue. Just be realistic with your expectations. It's a hospital, not the Four Seasons. read more

I delivered my baby here, as this is where my doctor worked. There were some pro's and cons. The labor suite was nice and calm. I got an IV, epidural, and had constant monitoring (which I did not mind at all). The nurses were very nice. I had no complaints during the labor portion, except that it can get a little noisy (thin walls). I could hear the lady next door screaming during labor...which was kind of scary. The recovery rooms were OK. The bathroom and shower are so small, I couldn't believe it. Seriously - if you had a pregnant belly, you couldn't fit in there. The food is pretty good. You can pick what you want from a menu and it does taste pretty decent. I also got a visit from the hospital nutritionist asking me if I had any aversions or allergies - and that was really nice of her to do that. There will be people coming into your room constantly. Nurses will come check on the baby. Lactation consultatns. Doctors. Etc etc. It can get noisy and feel intrusive...but I didn't mind. I just wanted to make sure everything was OK, so I welcomed the constant monitoring. CONS: Asked for an extra pillow during laboring - and the nurse said no. I don't know if they didn't have any extra or if it is just their policy to not give any extra. Either way, this felt kind of weird. The nurse did try to position my existing pillows to make me more comfortable - it didn't really help that much. This hospital is pro-breastfeeding. You will have lactation consultants see you all day to make sure you are breastfeeding. If you ask about formula or anything other than breastfeeding, you will not be given any information. If you are in pain and want to stop breastfeeding - you will be given pain killers to help with the pain. They will do anything and everything to make sure you keep breastfeeding. I felt like that is a hospital that puts baby health first and foremost, but once you deliver, mother's health is not taken that seriously. read more

Delivered my twins at Bellevue in October, and everything from start to finish was great. The L&D nurses were very kind and patient, and helped me immensely when I was in a ton of pain. The doctors and nurses present during my c-section made me feel at ease despite me having to undergo a major surgery. The recovery nurses were really on top of checking in on me and keeping me up to date with the appropriate medications (I know this is their job, but they did a great job at it). Lastly, the NICU nurses and doctors who took care of my babies for 9-11 days were amazing. They did a fantastic job monitoring them, keeping us up to date, and were so helpful to us as new parents, teaching us things that we ended up taking home with us. Although having babies in the NICU is not an ideal situation, their personalities and just overall demeanor made things much easier. L&D rooms are pretty big, and the staff were accommodating to let my rather large family visit me in my room. The chair in that room wasn't the most comfortable for my husband to sleep in (since I was in the hospital overnight before actually delivering). Recovery room was great, again decent size, and we had the entire room to ourselves, so my husband was able to sleep in the other bed in the room, which was much more comfortable. Food was pretty good - although I kind of got sick of having the same thing almost every day for a week. The staff bring you menus and you select your meals for the day in advance - and you get an entree, snack, drink, and dessert pretty much with every meal. Can't complain :) Overall, a fantastic experience geared towards women's health. I highly recommend Bellevue to any mom to be looking for a comfortable option for delivery and recovery. read more

Buy and Generously use a can of WD-40!!!! Fucking hell, how do you expect your new born child or the mother to get any rest to help them recover when there is constant noise from poorly taken care of facilities and equipment. The doctors and nurses are fine and so is the medical equipment so having a baby here isn't entirely out of the question, but "smart" people are not necessarily the ones with the most common sense for sure. Also, they have the worst quality of toiletries possible, 1/2 ply tp and cardboard paper towels about as absorbent and comfortable sandpaper made of plastic and the WiFi is worse than crap, hope your unlimited data doesn't get slowed down if you have to be here for any length of time. read more

I was hospitalized due a complication early in my pregnancy. The nurses that cared for me were some of the most compassionate I have ever encountered. There was no judgement from them and then went out of their way to make not only a very very nervous first time pregnant woman comfortable; but they also went out of their way to make my nervous husband comfortable. I am glad I chose them as my birthing option and should we have more children they will be the first and only choice for the care I receive. If I was able to rate zero stars I would. On monday October 28th, I brought in my 2 year old little boy to get his blood drawn, because I was referred out by his pediatrician, due to the fact that the nurse wasnt able to find a vein on his arm. The procedure was just routine with his two year check up. So we checked in, and where taking up to the middle floor to this waiting area which was filthy, cold and had nothing to entertain child in. Like coloring books, toys or any sort of colors on the walls. So after a good 35 minute wait, while my child grew restless and tired. We were taking in by the phlebotomist who never said hello. Never greeted my child, was the most cold, non-empathetic individual I have ever meet in a lab coat. I should at that point listen to my gut and left. But I was there with my mother, my sons grandmother and figured it would be a quick procedure and we would be out of this place. Well not so! My son at this point was already crying because he wasn't comfortable. She instructed me to sit on the table with my son in my lap, hold his legs down while my mother held his arm. She banded up his arm, and stated I found a vein. Stuck this needle deep in my son's arm for a good minute in a half, searching for a vein. My child almost passed out. Again hes 2 years old. My mother demanded she stop,while I was in tears because of the shear pain, she was putting my son through. I have never seen something so disheartening, appalling and quite frankly disgusting in my life. She didn't draw any blood. We refused to continue. This woman had zero remorse. As we left my mother asked if she ever worked with children before. She stated in a cold manner I work with people of all sizes. Usual protocol is having at least 4 people assisting in taking a blood of a baby. She NEVER should have continued and then as a medical professional should adviced myself (my sons mother) and his grandmother that she is not comfortable drawing blood. But never did so. She fished around my childs arm for so long I almost threw up. When we left we contacted client services, which then were told that this woman had only been in the field for about 6 months. Wow. So scary, my son ended up being okay, but as a first time mom that was a very traumatic experience. I will never go back to Bellevue women's hospital. Please as a parent DONT EITHER. read more

Bellevue Women's hospital is a dedicated facility, which is fantastic. After touring the hospital we committed to delivering our baby there. There are many wonderful things about this hospital, such as the lactation consultants, however a few things happened during my delivery that result in me not recommending this hospital. Albany Med may not be as fancy, but the staff is organized and monitored considerably better than Bellevue (based on my experience) and I would have chosen to delivery there had I known. Positives: (1) Lactation consultants on site are fantastic and you can see them any time. Breastfeeding is challenging and being able to attend support group meetings in addition to scheduling 1:1 visits with a consultant postpartum are invaluable. Plus the lactation consultation staff is phenomenal. (2) Birthing facility is nicely maintained (3) Nurses who supported postpartum were kind (4) Great classes for new parents Negatives: (1) Delivery experience was horrible. Was told by a nurse that an epidural was on the way. Three hours later they came. The hold up was due to circumstances beyond their control (another delivery). However, during that three hour period the nurse did nothing to communicate the delay to me and my husband had to search her out multiple times. I have no experience with how many people a hospital should staff to give epidurals, but one person was not enough that time. I ended up having a very long delivery possibly due to the delay of the epidural being administered. During the pushing stage one nurse kept telling me she didn't think I was doing it right (she was getting frustrated) and was generally negative and demotivating. I had a nurse communicate to me that I should stop pushing during the last stage of labor and, "let the contractions work the baby out." The nurses then switched shifts. I ended up vomiting considerably from the pain. read more

Delivered my son in February of 2015 and have no complaints. The nurses were generally nice, although I was in too much pain to really take notice either way, I guess. The food was decent. The kitchen calls multiple times until you answer to take down your order. This can be annoying, but at least you will certainly get food! The lactation consultants were AMAZING! I am certain breastfeeding would not have worked out for me if I had not been able to have help from those awesome ladies! The rooms were clean, although the chair for my spouse to sleep in was extremely stiff and uncomfortable. read more

So far my only scheduled class has been canceled and when I went to call to see if we could just stop by to look at the place, the woman on the phone was no help. She didn't have an answer one way or another and just transferred me to the voice mail of someone I had already told her i had been unable to get a hold of on that same day. read more
