The receptionist, Shamsiu, was friendly, caring and every efficient. My appointment was for 11:45 a.m. and I was called on time. The x-ray technician, Sonia, was friendly, answered all my questions regarding x-raying my left knee and did the procedure very quickly. I really feel that the staff run an efficient, caring and well run office. Bravo to you all!!!! I was originally tried to book an appointment at West Coast Imaging located at Guildford in Surrey, B.C. However, I was put on hold for several minutes, and then an automated voice instructed me to leave a message and a staff person would call me back. No one ever did. Long story short I've been to many, many labs and imaging places. This place in particular is so awkward to get in to because of motorized wheelchair. Two rows of plastic chairs right up to the reception. Granted it's not the receptions fault that I'm in a wheelchair but the fact that I called out to her when I couldn't go further than a couple of feet in to the room and she didn't respond. Thanks to another customer? who went to both rows of chairs turning them sideways so I could get through to the reception desk. I told the receptionist who seemed completely oblivious to my plight and she smiled and proceeded to ask for my care card. I thought public businesses were supposed to be accessible. To make things worse when I was shown in to a change room my eight year that it was a good thing that i didn't have to remove all of my clothes because I couldn't get in to the change room in my chair. My daughter had to hold the curtain back to give me some privacy to take the upper part of my clothes off and put the paper gown on. Technician was quick and thoughtful and professional. But the rest of the ordeal was demeaning and uncomfortable. When standing I'm only four foot tall. So when was ambulatory I could fit in a lot of places where other "normal" size adults couldn't. Now that I'm in a motorized wheelchair I feel like a bull in a china shop as it is and so when I find places that don't even try to be accessible it drives me batty. Will I go back and get my dose of radiation again? Not likely!

Our first conversation started with the staff member asking if I had a referral. When I asked if I needed one, she responded, "That's not what I asked you," immediately setting a hostile tone. She then repeatedly talked over me, cut me off mid-sentence, and responded in a condescending manner. Although I became frustrated and told her she needed to be nice because I am the customer, her response was to hang up on me. That kind of behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable in any business, but especially in a medical setting where patients are often already anxious or frustrated when calling in. I was simply trying to schedule an appointment in the Smokey Point office, and instead I was treated with complete disrespect. Patients deserve to be heard and treated with courtesy, not hostility. To management: Please address this issue. Front desk and phone staff represent your entire organization, and if this type of behavior is allowed to continue, it will drive patients away. A medical facility should be a place where compassion and professionalism are the standard at every level of care.
