As you get down to the main lots there are a TON of different trees to pick from. It was a bit muddy when we went so be sure to come in walking shoes/shoes you don't mind getting dirty. The ranch has your standard douglas firs, turkish firs, and even special variety for you to explore. The staff mentioned there wasn't as much rain this year so there weren't as many trees but we were still able to find one we liked. Prices range but are $60+ You can cut down the tree yourself but they also have staff driving around offering assistance with cutting if needed. They also help wrap your trees to compress them in your car and even have rope if you need assistance to put it on top. Really great service! As you explore or are waiting for them to put it on your car they offer free hot coco & cider for you to self-serve by the fire pit. It's a really cool experience to bring your family and even dogs as you find your perfect tree. Once you find your perfect tree and have it all ready to go you go back up to the main house where you picked up saws to pay. In the house they also have wreaths, yule logs, etc for you to purchase if you need anything else to spruce up your tree. Overall really fun experience and staff was great all around!

Unfortunately, there were few trees that met this low bar. After looking for a long while with a cold toddler, we finally succumbed to a much higher priced tree that seemed healthier than others - even though the price tag was a whopping $100! (We were clearly desperate at that point. In past years, we've never paid more than $60.) When we got home, we noticed it was awkwardly "manicured" such that it was flat in some areas and not others. We did our best to turn it and trim it so it looks more natural - to little effect. What's more, for some reason, it has absolutely no scent, which, for us, all but defeats the purpose of having a live tree. The fire pit was a nice touch but definitely not worth any price - much less the exorbitant price we paid - for the tree we ended up with. I sincerely hope that this review can help them improve their price tags and trimming process in the future. It would also be nice to inform customers about how different varieties may not have a scent. Thanks for reading!

We…read morewanted the freshest possible tree because we like to keep them up until 12th Night, and it seemed like the best way to do this was to have one that was in the ground the day we took it home. We were concerned because I've never cut a tree down, my knees aren't great, and I didn't know how much crouching and lifting I would need to do. I didn't need to worry! They gave us a business card with their phone number and directed us to the area where the type of trees we were looking for were located, and told us to call the number when we found it. They then drove an ATV up, cut & loaded our tree in, and drove us back down. Once there, they shook and baled the tree for us. I was happy that it was such a fun and stress-free way to get the freshest tree that fits our house AND fit in my hatchback. I highly recommend Hughes Family Tree Farm for both people who want the Full Family Tree Cutting experience, as well as those who just want a better, fresher selection than pre-cut tree lots.

Thankfully we had some help locating the size and shape we were interested in and our girls got to see all the sizes of trees before we used the provided saw to cut ours. Unfortunately our tree was large enough and far away which made it difficult with the freezing winds, to actually push the tree all the way back up to the barn, alone. The friendly crew saw we were struggling and literally ran down the hill to our side and helped push the cart for us. It allowed our kids to get out of the cray strong winds we had the night of our visit. Once selected they shook, trimmed, and drilled our tree for us! This was much nicer service, nicer tree, and supporting our local washougal businesses and families which all are a win. The tree still looks beautiful and our family enjoyed the barn photo ops once warmed up and out of the cold. We will be back next year!

Hot chocolate and coffee are free too. It's a fine place for the basic mechanics of getting tree. They offer a shaker and wrapper for your tree too. The entrance is not well marked, so pay attention. We felt like we might be in the wrong place or the only ones there until we arrived in the main spot. It's about a 15-minute drive from the core of Sandy but it's a nice little adventurous drive to collect a tree. The ambience of Christmas with all the bonus accoutrements wasn't really there as there was no music or fun little things to do for the kids, but it was fine for the mechanics of getting a tree, but it's about a 45-minute or so drive from Portland.
