After the adventure to find the location, I was greeted by Shelley and Ken. Such nice people with almost 30 years of experience in the bed and breakfast side of hospitality. The food was excellent! The carriage house is very cozy. There is a small refrigerator, ironing board, microwave, and even bottles of water for the guests in a shared area. The room I stayed in twice was on the main floor with a very comfortable bed with nice linens, sofa, and table with good lighting. The bathroom is small but had everything I needed including a nice shower. The entire place was spotlessly clean. Access to the carriage house was easy. Parking is in the driveway. I felt very safe at all times. The outdoor gardens are beautiful. Shelley shared books of pictures of the storm that went through a few years ago and destroyed a lot of the trees. The damage was terrible but seeing their place now you'd never know that storm ever happened. I was heading north and stayed at Belmont B & B on the way up. I loved it so much I wanted to stay on the way back. They were booked full so I changed my travel dates so I could stay here. If I'm ever passing through Cedar Rapids again, I'll hope to find a room open so I can stay a third time. The location is not far off the beaten path and a short distance from Amana Colonies. I almost forgot to mention the other guests were so nice. Both times our breakfast conversations were interesting and genuinely enjoyed. Stay here! If they have an opening book it as soon as you see it so you do not miss out! read more

I did an overnight trip to Cedar Rapids, and am very glad I found this B&B, rather than staying in a soulless hotel. Shelley and Ken have converted the carriage house of their historic home into comfortable rooms with period furnishings but also modern amenities like WIFI and satellite television. The grounds are extensive, and must be a great pleasure in warm weather. Breakfast is awesome! Delicious food and plenty of it. I enjoyed chatting with the other guests, and hearing the history of the property from our hosts. Though I don't have any dietary restrictions, Shelley did ask about that, so I'm sure they could accommodate those if necessary. Belmont Hill is an unexpected bit of Victoriana in a neighborhood of '70s ranch homes, though separated from them. If you are looking to be "where the action is", it may not be for you. But if you want friendly people, a comfortable room, good food, and a relaxing "no pressure" atmosphere, Belmont Hill is definitely your place. read more

Great experience here. History abounds: we learned so much about the property itself, and Cedar Rapids in general. This was my first time in the area, & it was amazing to see how much the town has come together after the flood. Note: the place is tucked away within a neighborhood of midcentury ranch & split-levels. You'll think you're in the wrong place...but once you turn onto Cherokee, you'll see it! Such a welcoming Bed and Breakfast!! My best friend and I stayed here as part of a girl's weekend and it was really wonderful. We felt safe and welcome, the breakfasts were excellent and homey, and everything was clean and neat while still maintaining a cozy 'at-home' feel. Ken and Shelley (the owners) offer historical insight to the property as well as showed us pictures and regaled fun facts. My friend and I stayed here for 2 days and enjoyed our stay enough to want to stay here again in the future. the belmont hill B&B is a gem in cedar rapids, the sort of place which makes me look for reasons to return to the area. i'd reserved one of the smaller rooms downstairs for two nights, but a cancellation had made the belmont suite available and i was offered and happily opted for the upgrade. the suite spans the full upstairs of the carriage house, is very well furnished, and was clean and well-kept. i'm particularly impressed by the small details of the building, restored woodwork and hardware. the hosts, shelley and ken, are simply great people. as friendly and hospitable as they come, and they know the area well. breakfast every morning was delicious, fresh fruit and yogurt followed by an omelet the first morning, and french toast with apples the second. also, their yorkies are adorable. read more

We stayed at Belmont during Christmas week. The inn keepers are such warm people, staying in their carriage house was so pleasant. They fixed a great breakfast of fresh berries and cinnamon apple french toast and told us stories of their inn keeping over the years. Staying here will be a new tradition for my husband and I during the Christmas season. read more

This lovely home and amazing hosts lack for nothing! First, you'll be so surprised when you arrive after winding through a typical neighborhood -- to find a hidden hilltop treasure house. The upper suite in the carriage house makes you wish you'd booked for a month! The other rooms are equally lovely though smaller. The hosts -- none better. Breakfast, have it as you like. A little too much carbs for me but that's just fixed by asking for something different. The place is beautiful, well kept, loved and full of happy returning customers. A convenient, in-town, location, and a very pleasant experience. I was reminded of the walk-in doll house in my grandmother's attic. Very comfortable bed, rather small bathroom, but with some thoughtful touches like a toothbrush holder and cotton balls and cups. And your hostess made that charming needlepoint sampler on the wall. Great place, you'll think you're lost driving through the neighborhood that surrounds it, but it's a real gem tucked in around the corner. The historic buildings are beautiful and full of history. The sleeping rooms are in the carriage house, breakfast is in the main house. Breakfast was outstanding and the owners Shelly and Ken are great people, we had a nice visit with them. My wife wanted to take the Yorkies home, so yes they're cute too. If we had one complaint it would be temperature control in the carriage house, but in their defense it was below zero at night and only single digits during the day when we were there. Oddly the room seemed to get warmer at night and we were gone sightseeing most of the day when the room was cooler, so it didn't matter much. The bed was comfortable and the down comforter very warm, nice! read more
