I called All Comfort Services today and they were able to send Monte A. on the same day. He's the man! All he had to do was be in the house and his aura was enough to bring that dead unit back to life! (Seriously!) He said he just checked the outside unit and it seemed to be blowing hot air indicating it was working. Honestly it wasn't working when I checked it the evening before - my aura must be old & tarnished. Like me. Good thing Monte's isn't. Just the trip charge - worth it. I've made a service appointment to get the oil changed and tires rotated on the furnaces and air conditioning unit and I'm certain whomever they send will bring the aura, too. We are comfortable once again.

I arranged for an inspection through All Comfort Services to determine what could correct the problem. Two electrical technicians, Devon and Caleb, came and inspected the light. They determined that the light sensor was defective and that the fixture needed to be replaced. If we bought new fixtures, All Comfort Services would be happy to install them. Devon and Caleb were personable, knowledgeable, and efficient. We were happy with their service.

I really wanted someone local, independent, and that I could call and they'd answer -- and be honest. But... I was incredibly underwhelmed. I was after a full replacement system, with a slight preference toward replacing the AC unit with a heat pump. I also wanted a two-stage system due to slight temperature imbalances in the house. He very quickly dismissed heat pumps, saying that they're "worthless" in Wisconsin, and he also didn't entertain the idea of a two-stage system. I asked about going from a 1-inch filter to 4-inch, and he said, "No, I wouldn't do that. The thicker filters restrict airflow too much; I would just get a higher quality filter." This is just blatantly incorrect and the exact opposite is true. 1-inch filters with higher MERV ratings are what restrict airflow. I also had a 45,000 BTU furnace, which had had no problem heating our home (and it was 20 years old! -- both the unit and house), but he very quickly said, "Oh, that's too small. You should get an 80,000," without taking any sort of measurements, asking any questions, or looking at the rest of the house. You can't do a load calculation based on...nothing? And you can't just nearly double furnace capacity without causing issues (mainly, that it's going to short cycle from being oversized). And, as mentioned earlier, it wasn't going to be a two-stage furnace, so it would have run at that full 80,000... Maybe he's good at repairs (I don't know), and maybe he's well priced (he came in second cheapest out of the four bids I got), but these were all just fairly big red flags for me that he wasn't a match for me for doing a new install. I got a two-stage heat pump and two-stage furnace setup from elsewhere and so far am very happy!

They told us that it was a blower motor and it would cost about $1500.00 to get us up and running. They said we were better off getting a new furnace costing about $6,000.00. We decided to check around and decided to call seasonal survival. WOW. I called and they were able to come out later the same day. It was the circuit board. He happened to have one on his truck. $375.00 and 20 minutes we are up and running! We even tried to give him a tip and he said nope, we don't do that. I had a clog in my sink drain that was too far down for my snake to reach. He measured from the sink and the main, cut out a bit of pipe, cleaned it out, and then installed a T joint with a plug I could take out if I needed. Now, there's no part of the pipe I can't reach with the snake. That was the first of many great interactions. At this point, I tell them what the problem is, and they come fix whatever it is, and I pay them. I trust them so much that I don't need to talk to them before they fix something.
