A lovely place. We stayed in the separate cottage, with its own little patio and garden. It also gave us the option of having breakfast brought to us at the cabin. The breakfasts were wonderful. They have a wonderful chef who incorporated produce from their garden and ranch into her dishes. 5 stars for the hammock! Everyone who works there is really nice. Why only 3 stars? The price. Not quite sure it's worth it. I would go in the off season when the prices are more reasonable. Most weekends are booked for weddings, so call way ahead or plan to go on during the weekdays. read more

From the garden where you can pick your own fruits and flowers to the best breakfast (all from ingredients grown on the property) I've ever had, it's a truly relaxing, enchanting place to stay. My boyfriend and I stayed in the cottage and had an amazing experience. We were welcomed by Joy, and every staff was super nice. We were offers a chord bottle of their famous SB and then went to check out the room. It was so beautiful and quiet. We had our own private patio also. In the mornings we had coffe at 7:30 and breakfast at 8:30. Breakfast was delicious. We then took a cup of coffee and sat on the porch to listen to the birds and relax. After we would then grab apples and carrots to feed the cows, Bob and Paisley, who were super friendly and loved to be pet. We had an amazing trip and it was super romantic. We also met a group of girls who have been going there for 8 years in a row. Perfect place for mom and daughter, or a romantic couple. Highly recommend!!! read more

My husband and I eloped to California to have an informal civil ceremony, just the two of us, in wine country. We wanted to stay at Glen Ellen's Beltane Ranch since he had attended a wedding there in 2000 and really liked the site. Although Beltane Ranch is not a high-end hotel -- it is more rustic than "brand new" and it doesn't offer every amenity imaginable -- we really enjoyed our 5-day stay and recommend it for those interested in a nice, charming place to stay while experiencing wine country that won't break your bank considering all the other more expensive options in this area. We stayed in Room #2 upstairs on the 2nd level, which is quaint, clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. Since it's an older ranch, you can faintly hear your neighbors but the noise level is not out of the ordinary. Breakfasts were homemade and very good. Although if you are vegetarian, please let the staff know so they can accommodate you if necessary. We had a little trouble with the internet access being very slow since we were looking up different vineyards to visit every day online. But toward the end of our stay, it seemed to be remedied/working faster. The grounds are so beautiful/bucolic, the staff was great and treated us very well, our room was cleaned well every day, and we met other wonderful guests including an artist, gallegoart.com, who was visiting with his wife as well. His art is beautiful and they were nice to meet while visiting this B&B. I definitely recommend Beltane Ranch for it's cozy, romantic, the staff are nice, respectful and helpful and it won't break your bank while visiting this lovely area of the country. read more

Though Beltane Ranch is located near some large scale wineries, the property is tucked away and has a quaint, charming vibe. The relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings compelled us to stay on site and explore the grounds. We checked out a hiking trail, vineyards, pond and gardens. Since our room had a great balcony view, we got cheese and wine from the market in town and enjoyed the sunset from there. The staff members were welcoming and helpful, and they made a tasty breakfast in the morning using ingredients from the garden. read more

SO MAGICAL! We are always a bit leery of B&Bs because you never really know what you're going to get, but we really enjoyed our time at the ranch. We stayed in both a regular room and a cottage and both were comfortable and well-equipped. The room in the inn was a little more noisy with other guests moving around in their rooms and the windows don't really completely shut which can make for chilly mornings but the space heaters worked just fine. The gardens and property are beautiful and breakfast every morning was superb. Can't say enough good things about this place! read more

Beltane Ranch was a beautiful location for a recent wedding for clients. The overall wedding was wonderful. It did get a little windy so flower centerpieces and lighting candles were a challenge. Just wish they had better restroom facilities and more market lighting over the reception area. Probably the most amazing place I've ever stayed at - it's surrounded by a stunning array of natural beauty, including a fantastic garden, horses and vineyards. It's in the valley, close to to Sonoma the city, but a bit of a drive from the Russian River and the west side of the 101. That being said, it's still the perfect place to stay if you're looking to really get away from it all. The room I stayed in was super cool and old school...and the layout of the place was really awesome. Breakfast was spot on. This was about 2 years ago, so I can't remember their names, but the people that worked there were super friendly and accomodating. I can't recommend it enough. Truly worthy of 5 stars. read more

Loved this place! Our stop after a busy weekend in San Francisco. Super relaxing, very laid back, comfortable beds. Love the private entrance to your room, wraparound porch area, picking our own raspberries, and the tiny town. Plus, their wine is fab. Wish we had maybe a map of trails on the property. My mother-in-law and her fiancé announced recently that they were getting married one week after her 70th birthday. This was a very big deal for our family, but by contrast, they wanted a very simple, quiet, informal and private ceremony. There would only be children, spouses and grand kids in attendance. They made several trips from the East Coast to scout out a location that would accommodate our small group. They found the Beltane Ranch to their liking and booked the entire ranch for this past weekend, Thursday through Sunday. 12 Adults and 4 children, coming from all over the globe, to gather and meet one another, some for the first time. They get 1 star for their beautifully kept grounds, their friendly staff and the comfort of the room we stayed in. The breakfasts were decent. That's the most I can review in the positive. On Saturday, the proprietress told us that they considered our informal ceremony an "Event", and "we make money on events." The communication from Beltane Ranch became overall more negative and she returned several times to add or alter the direction our stay was taking. We were told that there was now a wine tasting group coming by that afternoon which they had not told us about. We were told that they felt "scammed" by what they called a "Bootleg Wedding" which would have been insulting, had it not been so ridiculous. There were no commodities to bootleg, we weren't selling brides, and the paperwork for the marriage license was legal. A contract was shoved under the door in a passive aggressive gesture to suggest that they were now going to pursue a new route to collect more revenue. They wanted us to now agree and sign a contract promising to pay another $1200 dollars to what they considered an "Event fee" though we were not requesting any of their wedding services, we didn't need chairs, catering or parking, there were no outside guests coming to the ranch other than those who had bought and paid for a room there, including the officiant. We weren't picking flowers; we were standing next to them. There was no clear understanding of what the $1200 was for since everything we were using or making use of came with the rental of the ranch for the weekend. And everything for the wedding we brought ourselves (including the Officiant). It would have come to an extra $100 per person to stand in the same gardens that we had been in up until then, standing in. The only guests in attendance were already staying at the Beltane Ranch. We were further disturbed at the experience of the proprietress becoming unhinged with anger. She was insulting, rude, and alarmingly hostile. We made a gesture to cover any costs, if any came up because of our hand holding in the garden, but she wouldn't talk about that. She would not rationally discuss what the limitations now were on our stay. She told one of our party to get out of the kitchen, when he tried to rationally negotiate with her. We felt tremendously violated and unwelcome in our stay there, to the point of locking our doors because of such an unstable outburst. (even when we were in our room). Finally, two hours before the nuptials took place, they announced that nowhere on their grounds would we be allowed to gather 10 adults, 1 child and 3 toddlers together to hold hands around a couple while they exchanged their vows to one another in a 20-minute time span. Because we wouldn't pay them more money. The bride and groom to be, in spite of this incredible negative move, rallied together everyone to move our hand holding to a lovely park in Sonoma. It is due to their strength and dignity that they didn't allow this day to be ruined. A florist in town even gave the bride her the bouquet and the sky turned out some sunshine for 90 minutes. After booking the entire place for the weekend, our private ceremony was forbidden to their guests, unless we complied with the extortion of money. To do this to any bride on her wedding day, let alone a mother and grandmother, was a very mean spirited gesture in my opinion. As a native Californian, I know that the hospitality of the Sonoma valley is better represented elsewhere. Clearly review the policies at Beltane Ranch before booking, and know exactly what the guests are entitled to do there during their stay, even if it is holding hands in the garden, practicing the right to a peaceful assembly or a family gathering. Hostility replaces civility and the lesson learned is that civility costs extra. A sad and unexpected disappointment to have booked and stayed there, more disappointing than their private label Sauvignon Blanc. read more

We eloped here, and loved everything about Beltane. From the elopement planning process to arriving on the ranch, we felt welcomed as if we were family! Every detail of the ceremony was planned perfectly. Not to mention, the property is so stunningly gorgeous. We were married here in August with approximately 45 guests. It goes without saying that this place is one of the most stunning venues in Wine Country (and maybe anywhere!). It just oozes charm. We actually booked it site unseen a year in advance, and we were not disappointed in the slightest when we arrived. The rooms are very comfortable and vintage, the gardens are amazing and the areas where you get married and have your dinner are not only beautiful in themselves, but have vineyard and sunset views that cannot be replicated. The best part is that while it is beautiful and well kept, it is not in the least bit pretentious. My husband and I agree that Beltane could not be more perfect for a relaxed, yet beautiful and refined Wine Country wedding with so many great places for pictures. Our guests also got a kick out of the horses and chickens on the grounds! Further, Anne at Beltane was a pleasure to work with from the beginning, and was extremely helpful to both us and our coordinator along the way. She was accommodating with requests and made the whole process much easier. Anne really knows what she is doing, and works with you/your coordinator to make the wedding run like clockwork. The same can be said for the rest of the people at Beltane. They are also the BEST cooks! I still miss those breakfasts. Overall, the venue is definitely on the expensive side for wedding (but the normal room rates are otherwise incredibly reasonable for the area!), but it is absolutely worth it. It was wonderful to have our immediate family staying on site with us for the weekend in such a lovely setting, and the people at Beltane are some of the friendliest you could ever hope to meet. read more

Just returned from the Beltane, and it is superb. We stayed in the back room, #4, and it was a great place. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast is great; always someone in the kitchen when you wake up making something homemade. Because it is an old house, you can certainly hear others. The rooms, ceiling, and walls are easy to hear through. One last point, everyone around Glen Ellen and Sonoma responded great when they found out that we were staying at the Beltane. They would offer us more help, specials, etc... Beltane seems to have a great rep in the area. I would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking about Sonoma. read more

I looked into having my wedding at Beltane, and there are a lot of great things about this location. It is far enough from the road that you feel very remote, guests can stay here, and there is ample parking (a rarity with remote locations.) I asked Anne about the yelp review regarding the bathroom issue, and she said it was a fluke incident (I didn't ask for details) and she assured me that would never happen again. I believe her. Vendors and wedding coordinators in the area also love working with Beltane. They usually book up for weddings up to ten months in advance. It is expensive and be careful that you are sure about it before you put down the deposit because you won't get it back if change your mind. read more

We loved rustic and cozy atmosphere here. the breakfast, waffle with all naturally grown fresh raspberries was awesome. only one reason of scoring 4 stars is the noise coming from the next room at midnight. too old and thin wall to take comfortable/deep sleep at nigh. if your budget is okay then I'd recommend the Kenwood inn (read my review on kenwood in sonoma) better than the beltane. read more

We are from Chicago so most of our planning was done from a distance, and the owners, management, and staff were accommodating, responsive, and attentive to all of our needs. What was even more impressive, however, was their genuine kindness, warmth, and sincerity. What I love about Beltane Ranch is that it's chic, without knowing that it's chic. There is no pretention, and we never felt like we were just another "guest" or "wedding" to them. The shear goodwill of everyone at Beltane is tangible, and they made us feel, for those few days, like the world revolved around us, and our happiness. There is an authenticity to Beltane Ranch that truly can't be quantified; it can only be experienced. While there are many places to have a wedding in wine country, nothing compares to Beltane Ranch - it truly was a dream. It is extremely unfortunate that a reviewer told brides to "beware." Take it from someone who actually did have their wedding at Beltane Ranch, there is nothing like it in the world, and you will not be disappointed. read more

BEWARE OF THE SEWER ODOR: DISHONEST OPERATOR We booked the cottage for a birthday event. The location, grounds were beautiful in the Valley of the Moon. Upon check in the hostess said, "don't worry about the propane gas odor" as "its OK as we have had it checked out." Slightly confused she showed us the cottage. The cottage DID smell. We opened the doors and windows but the smell never went away. It smelled like ROTTEN EGGS. I went to complain and the hostess talked about it being Propane again. I said if its propane its a FIRE HAZARD but I knew its a problem with their septic system. I requested another room but they were booked full. They offered and I excepted a full refund. Fortunately I live only 1 hour away so we drove home.......if I live farther I would have been very angry. TO KNOWINGLY ADVERTISE / RENT THE MOST EXPENSIVE ROOM FOR RENT THAT SMELLS LIKE A SEWER IS DISHONEST. PLEASE SEE THE OTHER REVIEWS REGARDING SMELLY BATHROOMS ON THIS SITE. read more

Another spot I can't believe I didn't review. . . we had a Groupon type thing to stay here and came up last winter. The weather was mild, but a bit too chilly for hanging out in the gardens or on the porches. We did poke around the barns and feed the horses and marvel at the damage done by the local woodpeckers. This place OOZES charm. The rooms are nice, though don't feel very private - but how many b&bs are really private? Though they do have a small cottage unit that is more removed if privacy is key. As always, lively conversation around the breakfast table abounded, though breakfast itself wasn't too mind blowing. I love that you can access stuff in the kitchen and they have small fridges available for any wine and cheese you might pick up in the area, but think it's strange that that's where you check in. We wandered through the winery, out to a neighboring plot of land that had the shells of some old stone buildings that looked like a fantastic place to hold a rustic party actually. The big giant dog is super friendly. This is very nearly my ideal b&b. All they need to do is fix up the porch a bit, and maybe not make that flat and lifeless little quiche/frittata thing we had. :) Tempurpedic-esque bed was SUPER comfy, and loved the personal touches (we had the Heins' wedding license on the wall in our room). read more

We got married at Belatane in September 2008 and it was the most wonderful wedding I have ever been to. Everything was perfect. My wedding planner for sure also had something to do with it but Beltane is just so gorgeous and they are very well organized with weddings so everything runs smoothly. Family and friends stayed with us here for the whole weekend and everybody was totally in heaven about just being here. The views from the upper balcony, the peace, the fruit and flower garden and the cuteness of the rooms were all major parts of the experience. We, the wedding couple, were staying in the little cottage, which was wonderful. It has a little patio on the side. Every morning, a chef makes a creative seasonal breakfast with local ingredients. Most of the ingredients used for us were even from Beltane's own gardens. We are definitely going back this summer for a relaxing weekend and to enjoy the place a little more, as tourists, and not as the wedding couple. I would get married here again though, anytime. BEAUTIFUL! This place exceeded our expectations! The grounds are incredible. The history of the estate is so interesting. The homemade cookies everyday were wonderful! The only reason I deducted a star was for the bed. A King size bed, that is of higher quality would have made this the very perfect place. My husband is 6'3" and it is a tight squeeze in a Queen size bed for the two of us. That being said we would come back! We spent a lot of time just relaxing on the grounds. Picnicking in the sun, reading on the hammock! Visiting with the Clydesdales. Sipping wine and snacking on the porch swing. PERFECTION!! read more

Three of us booked 2 nights at the ranch - a very pleasant and easy experience. The host was very helpful with restaurant suggestions locally and the directions were good. Our rooms smelled very musty when we first got there but were clean and well-appointed though decorated like a farm house (which makes sense). The bathroom was old-fashioned, shower facilities narrow, but the plumbing worked and there was plenty of hot water. Grounds are lovely and we picked ripe raspberries in the front garden. Unfortunately the weather was grey and sprinkley so we did not get to use the grounds much. The breakfasts were very good but it would have been nice to have had extra bread or rolls for those with bigger appetites, and the coffee was weak and disappointing. A jar always has cookies in it and there was a fruit bowl available. There is a common sitting area on one end of the dining area which was comfortable but not overly attractive, and we had to wait for other guests to finish chatting before we could find seats at the table, and then had to ask for our breakfasts. Service was friendly and quick though a little scattered at times. All in all it is a very pleasant place though a little more run-down than we expected for the money, but that is Northern California, I guess. Nothing special, though, and I don't think we would go back. read more

My husband and I were married at Beltane Ranch on September 1, 2009. We wanted a small informal intimate family gathering so we rented the entire ranch for four nights, and it couldn't have been a more perfect wedding. Because this was a destination wedding, most of our planning was done from afar, and the entire staff couldn't have been more accommodating, both on the day of our wedding and during all phases of the planning. It was a perfect day for our very brief (20 minutes) but meaningful and memorable ceremony. We were charged the same fee (as a previous reviewer points out) for what appears to be almost identical ceremonies. We had our dinner at Zazu Restaurant and Farm which is also exceptional. By comparison to any other venues in the area, this fee is a small price to pay for probably the most beautiful piece of property in all of Sonoma. Beltane Ranch is very accommodating to small gatherings. The owner, in fact, commented several times on how much she enjoys hosting small family gatherings, and how she was warmed by our laughter and friendly chatter throughout our stay there. I would encourage anyone considering a small gathering, wedding, handholding ceremony, or whatever you would like to call it to have it at Beltane Ranch. The setting is magical and truly unforgettable and the owners and staff will go above and beyond to make you feel special during your stay. read more

My wife and I stayed at Beltane Ranch over the President's Day weekend. We stayed the first night in the cottage and the second night in room #1. We actually liked room #1 better because it felt more "homey" and seemed warmer. Breakfast the first morning was an oatmeal pie, sausage, and hash brown potatoes. The next morning for breakfast we had a butternut squash omelette, bacon, and fresh fruit. They serve the best cranberry-grapefruit juice. If you stay in the cottage, you have the option of having your breakfast delivered to you. We requested that breakfast be delivered, but when it didn't come we had to remind them. Apparently, there was some miscommunication between people working different shifts. The ranch is family-owned. We read about the family in a Sonoma magazine and then recognized the daughter while we were eating breakfast. read more

I recently stayed here after proposing to my fiance. I asked in advance for several considerations from the ranch - cut flowers in the room, arrange a picnic lunch, private breakfast in the garden, etc. Every step along the way, they could not have been more pleasant and easy to work with. I even requested we fetch our own eggs from the chicken coop, which they let us do and then used those exact eggs in our breakfast! The B+B is beautiful, the bfast is amazing and the setting gorgeous. I would agree with some of the reviews that the rooms are modest, bit that is exactly what they claim to be and set their rates to be appropriate for. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend the same for anyone looking for a country house b+b in Sonoma. read more

This is the best B&B I've ever stayed at. The property and house are gorgeous, and we had a great time just walking around the property and visiting the animals (cows, chicken, horses). Breakfast is served in the morning (they will deliver it right to your porch if you ask) and is made primarily from fresh ingredients produced right on the ranch. The location is far enough away from the town of Sonoma to feel secluded, but close enough that it's easy to reach everything Sonoma has to offer. There are only 6 rooms, so plan on reserving far in advance if you'd like to have a getaway here. read more

While the grounds are attractive the rooms leave something to be desired. The grungy plastic shower stall and mildew on the bathroom ceiling were not attractive. The proprietress is not friendly and makes her guests fell like a burden to her. We learned that the property has been in the family for 80 years and suspect that she felt the need to open a B&B to hang on to the property.
