Ham and cheese omelet, fig, orange
    Dale W.

I recently stayed one night (all that was available in late August to book - in March! so you know this is a wonderful place) at Tanglewood House in August 2014. John and Mary were wonderful hosts. Their guest suite is almost like a little attached cottage, in the middle of a lovely wildlife preserve. Although it is minutes away from Hwy 12, one of the main 2-lane roads between Santa Rosa and Sonoma, it is peaceful and quiet. I won't mention all the other amenities I enjoyed because other reviewers have already said it very well. What was really memorable about my stay was first, John and Mary and their beautiful peaceful energy. Their two dogs are proof of this too, and they love greeting new visitors they are meeting for the first time. Brooklyn, their young tricolor collie (with the longest nose I have ever seen!) came by the evening I arrived, and came in to spend a few minutes. The next morning, after Mary's delicious breakfast, I asked John if he would bring their older black poodle, Shadow, over to meet me, which he did. I am a lifelong dog lover and really enjoyed seeing and petting these wonderful creatures. Mary's breakfast for me was lovingly prepared and delicious. John asked me when I arrived if I had any food dislikes. I mentioned I liked my orange juice without pulp and that's what I received. The first course was Mary's home baked zucchini bread (as good as my mother's) and rye toast with homemade preserves, then a fruit course of fresh picked raspberries and blackberries. She said she thought she would make me a ham and cheese omelet and she did, served with an orange slice garnish and a beautiful star-shaped-cut fig, which was no doubt from their tree too. I especially loved sitting at the two-person dining table in the corner of the main room by the fireplace. There is a 2-wall corner window, floor to ceiling, and a perfectly placed bird feeder - there is nothing more relaxing than watching birds. I only live a couple of hours' drive from John and Mary's wonderful haven, so you know I'll return. By the way, in the guest book on the desk, I read many entries that said how many times they had returned - I think the record for one guest was over 50 times! I can definitely understand why. John and Mary, Brooklyn and Shadow all make you feel like royalty.

She was incredibly kind, warm, and knowledgeable, and she took the time to tell us all about the property and what makes Gaige House so special. The property itself is absolutely stunning. It truly feels like you've walked into a little land of peace - calm, beautiful, and so thoughtfully designed. I'm so grateful we had the chance to stay here. We also had dinner at Glen Ellen Star, which is only about a three-minute walk away, and wow - what an incredible restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious! We stayed in the Ryokan Zen Creekside Suite and were both smitten the moment we walked in. The room was spacious, and beautifully decorated. We also loved all the extra amenities, from happy hour with wine and cheese to fresh-baked cookies and a port bar in the evening. The breakfast spread the next morning was equally wonderful. This stay felt like such a special way to celebrate a milestone birthday. I highly recommend spending a night here for any special occasion. It was incredibly romantic and truly memorable.

But first, the good: their accommodations remain fabulous. We stayed in the Upper Poolside Cottage (Room 10) and it's just wonderful. The Comphy sheets are just heaven. Their bath towels are also plush and luxurious. Two thumbs up for in-room linens! Heated floors in the bathroom and 2-sided fireplace provide nice warmth and comfort. Complimentary snacks and fizzy water in the mini fridge are a nice bonus, too. The poolside cottages are the cat's meow, and just a short hop to the pool and hot tub. But there are several things that I noted during our last visit that made me feel like maybe this may have been our last visit to the Olea. First, there was a goodly amount of trash strewn about the property. At the hot tub, there was a wine bottle cap on the bench (I know, wine country, to be expected, right?), but what truly grossed me out was the wad of used athletic wrap right next to the hot tub. Blech! As I grabbed both of these items and took them to the trash (all of five or six steps from where they had been scattered), I noticed even more bits of trash in the corner area near the planters. Like more trash than would be expected by just one party being messy. (Also, the planter area was weedy and just seemed neglected.) I dismissed it as just not getting some needed attention, until I returned to our cottage and noticed several more pieces of trash right by our front door that I had missed earlier. And apparently so did housekeeping and management. Plus broken tree limbs atop the roof of the main building. And a huge rip in one of the pool lounge chair pads. And a very large hole (~3") in a pool towel. Just signs of general neglect and subpar for this place, especially at their price point. Second and perhaps even more disappointing is how much the included breakfast service has changed. It's gone from a 2-course, made-in-house gourmet affair to a continental style DYI breakfast, apparently now even on the weekends. The only thing made to order is the avocado toast (for obvious reasons). For those guests who hadn't enjoyed the previous offerings, perhaps it doesn't seem too bad. Nice spread. But I sorely miss the delectable morning meals and the awesome homemade chai along with the service for breakfast. I'd give this an updated 3.5 stars but will round up to 4 because I still really want to love this place. Also, Star provided friendly and welcoming service at the front desk, which was appreciated.

We looked at a lot of venues all over California and when we visited Beltane we knew it had to be there. We were looking for a venue that had nearby guest accommodations (200+ person wedding) but would allow for us to stay on site with our families and really slow down and enjoy that time with them. Beltane has a magic about it that can't be quantified and it's from the care that Lauren & the entire team put into every detail. We stayed with both of our families Thursday - Monday and hosted our rehearsal dinner there on Thursday night. The food was incredible thanks to Chef Neil, every detail was so thoughtful, and the whole thing just flowed. Our families felt completely at home. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are stunning, and we couldn't have been more relaxed. Lauren, Alexandria, Elise, Angie, Brian and the entire team are the best at what they do. They were flexible, responsive, and genuinely cared about making our weekend special. In an industry full of venues that feel impersonal and transactional, Beltane is the epitome of warmth and personality. We can't recommend Beltane enough.

They overdelivered on every aspect of our entire weekend and made us feel like family in the process. In a sea of wedding venues that feel like "wedding factories"- impersonal and transactional, Beltane is a absolute gem. We felt instant trust with Lauren and her team. They were incredibly flexible and accommodated our requests seamlessly. The biggest feeling that comes to mind when reflecting on our experience is "taken care of". The property is stunning and they really make you feel like it's yours for the weekend. Our guests, especially those staying on property, could not stop talking about how special it was. The rooms are luxurious and well-appointed, the breakfast they serve is amazing, and their staff are some of the most hospitable people I've ever met. The day of our wedding, the views were incredible. We were initially worried about road noise, but we didn't hear anything day of. The sunset was gorgeous. They really are in a special spot! Beltane also as fantastic relationships in Sonoma County. Every vendor I spoke with was eager to work at Beltane and knew the venue inside and out. We can't wait to come back, stay, and attend their events for years to come.

The location is excellent, with the plaza, downtown restaurants, shopping, and a lovely park all within easy walking distance. Parking was also convenient and free. Throughout our stay, the staff members we encountered were pleasant and welcoming. The inn also offered complimentary wine-and-cheese each afternoon, which was a nice touch. Our first-floor King room (number 7) overlooked the parking lot and was located right off the lobby. The room was dark, dated, and much smaller than expected. It felt sparse and lacked adequate horizontal surfaces. With only one luggage rack and limited space to set luggage, our second suitcase had to sit on a small corner table. We requested an additional rack, but none were available. The décor was underwhelming--blank walls with no artwork, covered hanging light bulbs instead of bedside lamps, and two chairs that looked in need of reupholstering. While there was a fireplace, using it comfortably required moving furniture, which then made circulation around the bed tight. The bathroom also needed updating; it was small with a tub/shower/plastic curtain, poorly lit, and had minimal counter space. A permanent sign instructing guests to run the sink slowly--due to known drainage issues--was an unfortunate detail that stood out. And the downside of a first-floor room with limited sound insulation was significant noise from the room above as well as in the hallway, which was at times disruptive.  Breakfast was included and changed daily. Chef Sal deserves particular praise--his breakfasts, homemade breads, and cookies were excellent and easily a highlight of the stay. The only disappointment at breakfast was the coffee, which was extremely weak and never hot enough. Fortunately, there's a Peet's Coffee directly across the street, and judging by the number of fellow inn guests we saw there each morning, we weren't alone in that assessment. Overall, while the location and breakfasts were strong positives, the room quality made this stay a disappointment given the price point. There are likely better options in the area. On a positive note, we continued on to Milliken Creek Inn in Napa (another Four Sisters property) which we found to be outstanding in every respect-a gorgeous, impeccably managed property.
