Meh - maybe it was the set menu we got as part of the tour deal but based on what we got, I would not come here again. Our meal deal include the local sweet wine - which tasted more like watered down wine and no wine glasses were provided. Secondly the food was super pedestrian, stale bread and indifferent service. This restaurant was recommended by our host Stephen. It did not disappoint. Food and service were excellent. I had the black and white pasta with mussels, which had such good texture and flavor. My gielfriend and I had dinner here during a two week trip to Italy. We had about 90 minutes to kill before the train and this place had some decent Yelp reviews. Up until this point, each restaurant we visited in Italy had been fantastic. Belvedere - however - was a complete outlier. The restaurant was about 2/3 full at dinner time. After being seated, we waited about fifteen minutes for our waiter to take our order. My girlfriend had a question about one of the items on the menu, which only seemed to annoy the waiter. She ultimately opted for the stuffed muscles while I chose the veal scalopini. It took about 35 more minutes for our food to arrive. By now we were becoming concerned that we may miss our train, so we immediately requested the check. We both began to eat our meals while we waited for the check. To say that the food was worth the wait would be a complete understatement. Both of our entrees tasted like something that came out of a frozen microwave dinner. Fifteen more minutes went by and I had to remind the waiter that we needed to catch the train. That finally prompted him to grab us the bill so we could pay and leave. Overall, this was easily the worst meal I had during our two week trip to Italy. The quality of the food was abysmal and the service was lackluster, at best. read more

We waited for check bill more than 30 minutes. During this process, we noticed that one Asian face couple came here, the black girl waitress said sorry, we'll be closed within one hour and no more open to new comer. Pornagrafio di Mare. I'm not sure if that's Italian for seafood porn, but that's what I'm trying to convey. Wonderful beachfront location. Our group of 5 had several fine dishes: Pesto, anchovies, calamari, prawns, etc. But my daughter and I split the show stopper: the house special. The restaurant advertised it as a fish stew for 48 euro which feeds 2. This is one of the most fantastic cases of underadvertising I've ever encountered, and one of the best dishes ever. The presentation is fantasically unceremonious: The server comes out with a vat of stew and dumps it in your bowl. And what comes out? The entire f*cking ocean, that's what. Floating in a rich, killer tomato seafood broth was: 4 huge prawns, 6-10 abalone (or at least we think) 30-40 mussels, several generous fish chunks, an entire baby octopus, and a small, albeit whole lobster. Again, fish stew is a massive understatement. 48 euro is a steal. In the US this type of seafood haul would cost $100. Lordy. And can 2 people take down this much tasty ridiculousness? Sure.....if they've just hiked the whole Cinque Terre. This meal can feed 3 for sure, maybe 4. Augment it with some basic pasta, and for 75 euro, your group of 4 can eat like sea royalty. We spent two nights in Cinque Terre and I was craving mussels. BAD. I did a quick Yelp search and before long we found ourselves running through the pouring rain to the front door of Belvedere in downtown Monterosso. The restaurant has an authentic and lively feel to it. The place was packed, even on a weeknight. We ordered the Penne with Prawns and the Black & White Spaghetti with Clams. Man oh man. Both were absolutely outstanding. The Penne was made with a sweet tomato and garlic sauce. (I licked the plate clean with my bread, with zero shame I might add). The Black & White pasta was perfectly cooked with rich olive oil and plenty of local fresh and salty clams mixed in. The ambiance of the restaurant was so fun and made for a great date in the middle of a great Italian coastal town -- highly recommended to anyone lucky enough to travel to the area! read more

Walked by this place and saw the seafood clay pot being served to a lunch group, had a serious case of food envy and had to get it. The seafood was some of the freshest, tastiest and well cooked I have had. The seafood dish comes in a clay pot in a bit of a soup and had the full works from lobster to full octopus, calamari, shrimps, etc. Moreover, it can easily be shared by 2-3 people and is great value! While it is touristy, like most of cinque terra, I would highly recommend the place both for the experience overlooking the water, clay pot and for the food of course! read more

We agree with Joe B. The food was ok. We had the Sea Bass which was very bland and the Pasta with Scampi and tomatoes which was ok. Bolognese was edible. The only vegetable choice was boiled vegetables which were way over cooked and salad which was ok. The view was nice read more

I feel like this restaurant has high ratings based on location. Only giving one star because there is no option for no stars. We waited for a table for 10 minutes and the wait staff would not help us and no one would acknowledge we even existed. Perhaps good food but being completely ignored made it obvious they were not concerned for customers. We would recommend going up the roads into old town. Giving four stars for the food and the view. We had the Calamari fritti (best ever), the swordfish (excellent), and the linguini with pesto (hearty and delicious). We were very lucky to get a seat outside with a view of the ocean without a reservation. As the night went on, most of the other outside tables were reserved...so book ahead if you really want to sit outside. This was probably one our favorite dinners in our two week trip in Italy. Our server was very nice and suggested the pesto and black and white pasta with mussels. Both were very good. We also started with the fruit of the sea salad which was very refreshing. An amazing view - food was okay. Shared the bruschetta with pesto. Now maybe my understanding of Bruschetta is wrong - but we were just served two pieces of toast with pesto on the side. The house wines, both red and white were pretty good. As for mains - I had the black and white pasta based on all the Yelp reviews from previous posts. I found it overbooked and kind of plain. Great place with a beautiful waterfront view. Had the pesto in just about everything I ordered and couldn't get enough of it. This was better, dare I say, than my homemade pesto! Another restaurant that is a classic tourist trap. While the food is alright, and the view is decent, it is more than outweighed by very very slow service ( they have 3 servers for 60 people ) and by the fact that the restaurant is below the train station so your dinner is interrupted by very loud freight trains. We had the black and white pasta and the bolognese. Both were ok tasting , not that special, and I cannot comment on the other dishes since they came 1 hour late so by that time it was just too late to eat ( it was like 940pm). Food was ok at best ordered spaghetti di mare, swordfish and veal. The food wasn't the problem. We sat next to the beach and we were swarmed by bees and fly's. It made the evening very miserable. The food was good, but it is a tourist place, and the service was slow because they did not have adequate staffing for the size of the restaurant, and the atmosphere was not relaxing. It is basically across the street from the "beach" in Old Town", and your view is more of the street and sidewalk than of the ocean (Tortuga offers the best view). We found several other smaller places with the help of Yelp that were more to our liking. read more

We had the Fish Soup and Grilled Swordfish. Both were amazing and the portions are pretty large. Came to this restaurant partly because Hotel Punta Mesco recommended and said that we could get 10% discount because they own the restaurant. So good we ate there twice. Seafood special (48 euros) and two orders of seafood pasta fed 5 adults to the point of food coma. Second night ordered the grilled mixed fish, linguine with pesto, fried calamari and prawns and steamed mussels. Every dish was delicious. Each night they gave us 15% off our bill which we returned for the tip. Don't miss the chance to eat here. Fills up fast so reservations may be helpful with a large group. read more

We came here because of the great reviews but left with a bad taste in our mouths. When we arrived it was fairly uncrowded but we had to flag down out waitress, who doubled as the hostess to get our order after sitting for quite a while. She showed up, took our orders, and we didn't see her for quite some time after. The vegetable soup was ok although to was decidedly sweet. For our 2nd course, she served 3 out of 4 of our party and had to be flagged down a couple times to get the missing dish, which she insisted was coming. When I tried to cancel the order, she would not let me and chose to bring it to the table then. Of course, the rest of my party had mostly finished their dish. Since I lost my taste for it by that time, I asked for a doggy bag and was told no-they would neither box nor bag my leftover dish. Of course there was no apology nor any break on the bill. So.. my take on this place is mediocre food, bad service and rude wait staff for tourist prices. read more

We came to Monterosso for then night but didn't have a dinner reservation set. Belvedere was recommended by our hotel and we were very glad we found it. The stuffed mussels, a local specialty, were fantastic. Perfectly cooked and and a good-sized portion for the price. For our entree, we shared a double portion of the seafood spaghetti (the minimum order was 2 servings). It had plentiful amounts of mixed seafood, including clams, mussels, and octopus. The sauce was delicately seasoned--not too strong so that it didn't overpower the seafood. The house wine was very good as well. Sadly, we were disappointed in our meal and overall experience. We made reservations a few days in advance. We walk by the restaurant on our way to our hotel and had been seeing amazing food, including the "house special" which is a clay pot full of seafood. Needless to say, we were looking forward to it. Ultimately the house special was ok - a lot of food, ok flavor and a pretty high price (compared to pretty reasonable prices on rest of menu. Added to that, the service was poor. The waitress had an unreasonable amount of tables and it showed. It felt the closest to a US restaurant chain experience - quantity of food over quality. Lots of better choices in town. read more

This is the first time that I have felt strongly enough to do a yelp review. We were recommended this restaurant by several people as well as the Rick Steve guidebook. We were so excited to eat their" house specialty soup that we arrived early and were the first table seated. Per Rick S. This 2 person dish was more than enough for 4 people. As soon as we ordered the waitress frowned because we asked for only one order for the 4 of us. After this we waited and watched as every table around us was served and 3 of those tables ordered the same soup and had appetizers as well. After this hour wait we were so happy when our soup arrived only to find that a majority of the mussels did not open. We mentioned all of this to the "manager" who gave us a scowl and said you so wanted your food faster or ordered appetizers!? We explained that it had nothing to do with the speed but the fact that we were dismissed. He walked away and returned with our check saying nothing. Slow to start (hence the 4 stars).. But the food was delicious! I had the black and white and pasta with muscles.. Really good. My husband had the pasta with scampi and said it was good but not great (also why it is 4 star). View was great, staff was friendly, and great water views from outside. We would recommend trying something a little more off the beaten path.. We saw "la smorfia" a short walk away with a lot of locals and good looking food! Might be a good place to try:) read more

Bad service, unfriendly and we had hair in our food, the server took our plate without an apology and left us without food. Overpriced as well. We had to wait 15 minutes till the waitress slapped the menus on our table and asked 10 minutes later what we wanted. 20 minutes after that they put our food on our Tavel. The owner of our b&b recommended this place and it was fantastic. We have the house white wine which was cheap and tasty. Then we had the marinated anchovies (lemon and vinegar) and they were divine. My wife had the penne with scampi (she doesn't normally order sea food) and she loved it. I had the grilled mixed fish and again a great success. I finished with a glass of grappa.
