Our Airbnb was just around the corner from Da Eraldo and I had discovered them based on their high reviews. As we walked by, we noticed some of their employees inside so we asked if we could make a reservation for dinner for 6pm or 6;30pm. They recommended 6pm and took my name. We arrived promptly at 6pm and were the 2nd table seated. I'm so glad we came early. Over the next few nights we noticed so many people waiting outside all night long. I will tell you that my branzino was amazing. Fresh and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed my healthy meal and I don't mind deboning a whole fish myself. My daughter had the linguine with clams which was also very delicious. My son had the pesto lasagna which was so-so. We were expecting red sauce bolognese so it could just be that we just had different expectations. He also ordered the steak and enjoyed it. My husband had the fruitti de mare and thought it was just okay. Something to know is that because they are so busy with so many people waiting, they like you to order everything together. We noticed a server who got frustrated with another table who tried to order apps, and then tried to order the main meals after they finished them, then dessert. These employees are hustling and trying to turn tables, as you see the queue outside waiting. It's a tiny cozy restaurant with a lot of demand. Good reviews so we decided to try it. Bread was weird more like a biscuit than bread. I had gnocchi with meat sauce and my husband had the spaghetti with clams, white wine and chilis. Gnocchi was okay. Huge portions - I couldn't eat a third of it. My husband's pasta was okay but pretty bland and didn't have much sauce or spice to it. I did notice people did have reservations, however my daughter and I were able to squeeze in without one. Sitting outside, this was exactly what I was looking for: excellent Italian seafood, al fresco dining experience in a coastal town. Another Excellent Dinner Choice - And It Opens Early! Monterosso al Mare is the biggest town in Cinque Terre and has a ton of restaurant choices for dinner. For our 3rd of 7 nights, we chose Da because it had great reviews and opened at 6 PM which is very unusual for the area. Maybe that's why people were lining up at 545 PM? Here are some of the pros and cons: Pros: - Most of the food was heavenly, including a shared Vegetable Platter and desserts. Why can't they offer such a platter in the US? - Service was friendly and helpful...especially for 2 people with very limited Italian. Fortunately, the server spoke English and smiled a lot. - Bread tasted great which is an important factor for gluttons like us - Value was excellent - Seating is both inside and outside, but we made sure to go out given the warm weather. Cons: - The main one...really the only thing worth mentioning...was my wife's Ravioli with Pesto was drowning in sauce. She loves pesto, but it tested her endurance. - Outside tables and chairs were on uneven pavement which made our meal "fun" or challenging...depending on how you view things We'd go back to Da Eraldo, but ask them to tread lightly on the pesto. read more

Made a reservation for outside. Host seated us inside. Showed him the confirmation email with an outside table, but he said he had us down for inside. (It was hot and stuffy inside.) It was actually our least favorite meal out of the 6 days we were dining in Monterosso. This may say more about the other restaurants however as this food was still good. We had a reservation, arrived on time, and were told our table was paying their check and would be ready in a few minutes. 15 minutes later, we were summoned in and given a choice of three tables. I didn't know if the tortelloni was unavailable or what (the waiter didn't mention it), but I didn't want my partner to wait while a new dish was made for me, so I ate the ravioli I didn't know I wanted. (Also, I'm starting to learn that this is common in Italy, but a scallop shell of Parmesan cheese was on my plate with the food. I don't eat meat and wish they'd reserve the sea creature carcasses for people who order seafood. What's next, serving bread in the skull of whatever animal was killed for the ragù?) The service was okay, really kind and I appreciate how sweet the ladies were but all the other tables got bread except for us. The service was friendly, but they didn't have enough servers and so it took a long time to get things. When we asked for salt and pepper, it never came. The food either had no taste at all, or was too pungent. And when we got home, three of the four of us had very upset stomachs. read more

The pasta tasted fresh but the ragu sauce was average and the carbonara didn't have pieces of bacon, it was just strips. We sat outside and the seats weren't comfortable either, my dad was sore after the meal.
