I've been here many times I should've reviewed it sooner. I stopped by today, Sunday, January 5. Light traffic because of the blue laws the malls are closed. So it's nice not to have to deal with all the lousy traffic and crazy drivers especially at 9 AM on a Sunday Almost nobody on the road. It's a little tricky to pull into the diner so I had to make a right turn and then drive straight across Route 17 and park in the diner It was pretty crowded when I got there around 9:30 AM. I sat at the counter and said hello to John. Got a menu and decided to order the veggie omelette. Add mushrooms well done potatoes and white toast with coffee, of course I talk with John and kid it around with him for a little bit in between when he was grabbing the plates from the cook then bring them out to the customers at the booth or sitting on the stools at the counter My breakfast came out and I was pretty hungry. Loved how the omelette looked. Nicely done on the grill some spots on the edges had a nice golden brown those potatoes look excellent also Very flavorful the omelette with the cheese, mushrooms and other healthy vegetable vegetables. Everyone was chatting and john was having a good time talking to everyone. But he had to pay attention to what the short order cook was saying to him so he could bring the plates to the right tables. Someone next to me was having sausage so I decided to order a side of sausage which was done nicely on the grill. Split and then put on the grill so it was nicely done on the inside of the sausage. Where it was split, of course. I even got one of the danishes for dessert. I'll definitely come back again soon. I know that the patty melt is supposed to be very good so I think I'll have an early breakfast one of these mornings this week. You can't beat a diner like this regular customers chatting John kidding around with the customers and the short order to cook Family places like this not many are left around in the area. I'd give the food a 7 out of 10... but the ambience of a New Jersey diner gets 1,000 stars. Classic, run down, a bit beat up with duct tape on seats, old tables and booths, old scary bathroom = perfection. Plenty of shiny diners in NJ with lackluster service, this is not that. Host and waiter were friendly and fast, with that fun east coast upbeat attitude about things. Authentic all around. Our breakfast wrap, soup, and grilled cheese hit the spot, very yummy. Go in expecting nothing fancy, you won't be disappointed. read more

They say that NJ has the most diners in the country, so how do we know what's what??? I've driven past the Bendix Diner NUMEROUS times and it oddly draws you in. It's it just a truck stop joint, is it a regular Diner??? We gave it a shot. Inside is VERY dated...... Just my style. Nothing fancy, just come in and sit where you want. Service is an interesting event. The owner, I assume, is also the host, server and bus boy. But what.... He's completely blind and works more efficient than most people I've seen work. He has your order memorized, does the math in his head immediately and is prompt and helpful. The food was off the chart. I got the the meat Supreme omelet and it didn't disappoint. ABSOLUTELY packed and MASSIVE. It came with home fries. I also got a side of corned beef hash but the omelet itself would've been more than enough. There are no accidents. Everything happens for a reason. Picture a diner just a minute from Teterboro airport and 8 miles from Manhattan. Huge delicious portions with the amazing, super sweet and creative chef Julio asking you what you would like as a side dish and how you want your sandwich or burger or omelette. He then suggests this absolutely stellar side of fried rice with mushrooms and broccoli in this special sauce. OMG( photo). Side more like an entree. It gets better. Your host/server/owner is John, who is blind. God blesses us with us gifts and experiences in many, many ways. John is one extraordinary blessing. He is the one of the sharpest, funniest, quickest, kindest, warmest and aware human beings and multitaskers I have met. He greets the customers, picks up menus, jokes with everyone ( wicked sense of humor btw), takes orders mentally, relays them verbatim to Julio, serves them, runs the cc machine, operates the cash register, takes a FedEx delivery from the awesome driver Fred; refills my strong and good mug of coffee, gets me a can of Pepsi and then requests his youngest son Michael to please get the dressing from the kitchen. By the way, this single parent John has raised three amazing boys. The eldest just graduated from Harvard and the youngest Michael starts college in a few weeks. When there is so much love and care, the entrees and the dishes that are prepared by Julio and Mom( John's lovely Greek mother) naturally taste amazing. The portions are huge. Bring your appetite. PROS: The staff here is nice while the prices and food selection was plentiful. Everything tasted good and the food came out fast CONS: The place is in dire need of renovation and the parking is scarce. they also just have a one person bathroom and its in a busy intersection so its tough to leave the lot OVERALL: Not crazy about coming back. So one would go to a diner thinking the roast beef would have mashed potatoes. Nah, we dont have them tonight is what I was told. Being from the south, I dont expect everyone to have the southern hospitality, but at least have some hospitality. When someone ask for ice, more than a few pieces is nice. I can say the hasbrowns were the only thing decent. Then I ask for my check, he just gives me a total of $19 for a gyro (ordered because no mashed potatoes), hasbrowns and a can Dr. Pepper, but you can look at the menu and see it's $11.95. So you are telling me tax and a Dr. Pepper is $7.05? I dont think so! I didn't argue with him. I gave him $20 cash and walked out because I knew that I would never be back and I hope that nobody else is either, if you're gonna rip somebody off like that. While the place is cute on the outside, I would NOT recommend it at all. The Gyro barely had any meat on it. In fact, it had more tomatoes than meat. Also, it had sour cream instead of the Taziki (however you spell it) sauce. read more

A classic very old school diner. The exterior and interior is in need of some refreshing but don't let it detract from what is a beautiful design and space. John the owner was delightful to speak with and friendly and the food was wonderful. If I lived near there I would likely make it a weekly stop as it was a great New Jersey experience. read more

He took our order then that was the last I seen of him but his dad jumped in and I was more then impressed he was running these tables and he is blind WOW !!! Excellent experience. My husband's riding buddy Kenny suggested Bendix Diner as a place he stops in often. Our breakfast was very good, and generous portions. Our server John was great with a great sense of humor. The cook is quick and very good natured. We will definitely come back and try out their burgers and/or cheesesteak. Don't judge a diner by its cover. Beat-up diner at a beat-up busy intersection, small parked parking lot. But the food was very good and fresh (we went for lunch), and very reasonably priced. Burger, omelette, fries, and hash browns all better than most. Better than say "Red Robin". I think the place gets a lot of locals, we heard several address the waiter by name and wish him well. He is blind by the way and did a great job. I THINK he used the honor system when you pay cash, please do the right thing. read more

This diner is as classic as they come! What a place. Some would see it as old but I think it has a great charm to it. The staff here are so nice and made the experience even better. My go to at diners is the breakfast and this one is no different. The french toast and omelettes are on point. Loved the greek omelette. Everything is fresh and cooked right in front of you. Ok.. so I recently moved to the area and passed this place about 20x before I finally convinced the boyfriend to try it out. It is essentially a 'truck stop' type of place... everyone in there was dressed in jeans & a baseball cap so I'd never go in there without another 'dude' :-) The very sweet lady (I think she's the owner) greeted us as soon as we walked in. We sat at a table past the breakfast counter by the windows. It does have a great 'old skool' diner feel. If you're into the nostalgia of it all, this is the spot The food? Everything I'd hoped it would be. We ordered blueberry pancakes (OMG!)... corned beef hash/grrreggs with nice serving of home fries. I ordered fried eggs & crispy bacon. Made mistake of not ordering my eggs right (I'm Spanish so when we say 'fried' eggs they are always cooked beyond recognition).. but I ate the whites and the man ate the yolks. Didn't care.. everything was so delicious nothing short of an earthquake would have stopped me from finishing this breakfast. I realized we may have overdone it ... $30 for bkfst!!! I love real diners. And this,my friends, is a real old school diner. Untouched by time. Not influenced by current trends. The friendly family who runs the Bendix will make you feel like your are a regular even if it's your first visit. With that said it is apparent that a lot of regulars dine here. Overall the food is pretty standard diner fare. We stopped for breakfast. I had the truckers special. Eggs, pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were excellent. Perhaps just a bit on the greasy side. But that's what one would expect from a real diner. My son had the Greek omelette which was well prepared. Nice home fries and perfectly toasted rye bread with butter. My only slight knock was with the water of all things. It had a foreign pepper taste. Not sure if it was the ice, the water, or the cup. But no big deal. Seriously one of the best Greek salads I have had! My friend suggested we stop here for lunch as I was looking for a real NJ diner experience. It was mid-afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy. Our server was great - such the sense of humor! The decor was like stepping back in time. I've been wanting to try this diner for a while. It's in an odd place. Between the highway. I finally convinced my husband and we went last weekend. Parking was a bit hard due to all the trucks. Not sure why there are so many there. I figured they drivers were eating inside. But that didn't seem to be the case. John and his son helped us. We grabbed menus from John and sat where we pleased. Kids wanted to sit in the addition area. Which was a bit dirty. Napkin dispensers are rusted over. There were dead flies and dust on the window panels. The place needs a little tlc. We were going to move to a normal booth. But seats were duct taped over the holes. So we decided to stay on the seated addition area. Kids food (french toast, waffle) came out first and they enjoyed. Our omelets (western, garden)we ordered were great as well as the home fries. We got coffee. We got topped off. Just need to help put cup under pot. Great food. Great prices. read more

My husband fell in September there after eating, bleeding and dazed and the guy behind the counter would not help and threw him out. The place is old, disgusting and food greasy. Bl edging, he left to go to emergency room because the guy would not help him and said he did not see him fall. To the business owners answer..... so? When my husband was bleeding and asked for help, your guy told him to leave. Instead of trying to get him help, he said LEAVE. He said Go on, get out of here. Is that how you treat your customers? Been many times to this nostalgic diner and have had positive experiences with food and staff. Parking remains a problem at times due to amount of trailer trucks that may end up parking there, but all in all, no real complaints. Breakfast is always a large serving and it is done as you ask! read more
