It's worth the price of admission to see the dusty, brick-laden passages that exist directly beneath the modern streets surrounding Pioneer Square, preserved in all their late-1800s glory, but Jennifer brought the flavor to the tour that made it such a memorable experience. Guide Jim took us through many underground sites, all while explaining the history of Seattle, the great fire, and the rebuilding of the city so as to keep the town dry. We had family in town from Texas and they were interested in the underground Seattle tour. The tours book up quickly so I would sign up online and take the bus downtown. Our tour guide was Richard and he was very knowledgeable. He also was fun to listen to. The down side in my opinion was the walking portion. I felt we spent more time above ground then below. The below rooms were pretty much empty except for a few pictures. We relied on Richard to provide that information. The Smith Tower portion was interesting too. I did not know we ended up in a restaurant. The view of Seattle was nice. read more

There are two underground tours, and they're both good. I like this one better for the sheer fact that your group will average 4-12 people rather than 30+. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly and you can tell they love this city. I was so glad I had some cash on me to leave a tip! read more

We didn't realize there were two underground tours and walked into the wrong venue (Bill Speigel's Tour). The old guy behind the registration desk was cocky and said, you don't have reservations and this is the original tour, then pointed outside. As we walked out, I said to him I'm sure the other tour is better. When we got to Beneath the Streets registration desk, the young girl was so very friendly and inviting. She even asked if we wanted to do the 1030am tour since we actually were booked for 11am. We did. Eowyn, our tour guide is very knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humor. My husband was interested and set up the tour for the family. I'm not much of a history or tour kind of gal, but Jim got my attention and kept it throughout. Even the 18 year old ended up enjoying it! Jim walked us through the history of Seattle from the Duwamish tribe to the present. It was interesting learning how the area came to be, and the lessons it took to make it happen. Little bit of walking, little bit of talking both underground (not the basement!) and above ground. There are stairs and uneven walking surfaces. Pioneer Square can be rough around the edges. Homelessness and active addiction may be seen, as another commenter stated. We accidentally went in here instead of The Underground Tour and didn't realize it right away. If you want to only spend 1/10th of the tour in disconnected underground rooms, see some dirty back alleys, stop by statues you can see anytime, and hear sales pitches for local businesses, this is your daisy. We did learn a few interesting things about Seattle history, so not a total loss. I hope to do the other tour someday and actually see the old underground city. read more

2.5 Stars Ah, we (5 gal pals) all looked forward to a requisite Seattle "underground" tour. It was to be the highlight on our last day and Beneath the Streets had great reviews. Additionally, we had an Uber driver the night before who was pretty informative and told us the history in an engaging manner. Truthfully, we were pretty excited about the tour but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The macabre atmosphere of the building set an odd tone. Was this a ghostly tour? That wouldn't have been bad. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, but his monotone, dry "humor" made it difficult to stay engaged. His political commentary seemed self-serving as well, even if one agrees. What surprised me the most is how little we actually were "beneath the streets." After the initial and most interesting part of the tour (where you could see the buildings upon which the second story was built), the rest was lackluster. We spent more time walking above ground than under. When we did go under, it was in the basement of a bar that anyone can go to on comedy nights and a building going through renovations where much of it was plastic sheeted off. There were photos and such so I guess that was good for perspective. All in all, we weren't impressed, especially since we were really looking forward to the tour. I had no real expectation but at the end of it, I'm not sure I'd recommend beneath the streets. read more
