It's a beautiful location they are one of those belgian type beer locations so if dubbels and trippels are your think you'll love it they are very good and making that variety of beer but it isn't for everyone if you aren't familiar with it. The food was good I'd go again for sure. read more

This was a super interesting find- not many know of the monastery that is up on the hill in Mount Angel, let alone this brewery that is on the monastery grounds. After exploring some of the paths and buildings at the complex, we decided to go down to the brewery and try out a couple of their beers. I am a big fan of German/Austrian style beers, and I was very much in luck. I ordered the farmhouse ale, and my partner ordered the dunkel ale. Both were very good- the farmhouse was mild and not overly sweet, and in a lot of ways was more bitter than I am used to. However, I much prefer it to many of the farmhouse and sour ales I have had that are so sugary that it will give you wicked heartburn and make you sick to your stomach. The dunkel, though, was my favorite of the two and was very well balanced. It reminded me very much of the beers they serve at Occidental Brewing up in Portland- lighter, but still retaining a complex flavor profile. The service was very friendly, and they have a limited menu of food (and I think a food truck on weekends/holidays.) The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and face several large fields including a hop farm (where I heard they get the hops for the beer.) Environment is quiet, and the prices are very reasonable at $5 for a typical pint and up to $7 for the more seasonal/limited edition beers. We need a moment to escape the craziness of the Mount Angel Oktoberfest so we found solace amongst some beer-making monks. Their tasting room reminds me of a Swiss/German chalet. They have an incredible view. The monks from the monastery were out and about chatting with the customers. The staff was very friendly. It was a great spot to chillax for a moment while sipping on one of their good brews. Interesting fact: The monks brew the beer using water that comes from their own well and hops that they have grown on their own land since 1880. Note: They also had a tasty cider made by a local spot. read more

A really nice brewery experience. Worth the drive out into the country to visit. Overlooking hop yards and the surrounding farmland. Nice taproom with wooden benches and both low and high tables along with an outdoor patio to soak it all in on a nice day. A few snacks to soak up the beer, and board and card games to play while hanging out. Nice folks working the taps. I would call their beer good, but not great. Hopefully with time it will improve. You can taste some of the trappiest yeast influences, but the beers are only vaguely "Belgian" tasting (beer geek historians will remind me of the various orders of monks who have brewed far and wide, aside from the Belgian and Dutch Trappist monks associated most with monastery breweries now... ) and lack much hop bitterness or flavor in the styles that call for them. Strangely, the Helles lager was the more true to style beer, but still not quite crisp enough. Regardless, nice to taste them and enjoy beers that are outside the typical IPA's that predominate in the NW. Great place to celebrate community spirit and the self-sustaining Mt. Went here today with my girlfriend..i had forgotten the brewery was up and running. We went to visit the wonderful and peaceful monastery..on the way up there e spotted the brewery sign..so after prayer and meditation dropped in for a pint. The place is on a small rise overlooking the fields and woodlands ..i think a hop field too ( now harvested)..clean modern building with seating and standing tables..when i was there there was one monk and a few servers. it was a wonderful October day so there was still seating outside. There was only 3 beers on tap but between me and the g/f we had all and all were top quality. I loved the helles ( oh so ironic)..excellent. No food that i could see..but overall i could have sat outside looking at the bountiful land until dusk..which we did. Recommened read more

Quiet. Beer options are fitting for the setting. We are from the food cart and the flatbread was delicious and hit the spot. Afterwards we drove up to the Abbey and walked the grounds and enjoyed probably one of the most expansive views in a Oregon possible. read more

Staff was excellent with recommendations for the flight I ordered. There were plenty of options to choose from and they even had a few ciders for my wife. Just a neat place to go and enjoy some fantastic beers that are flavorful and reminded me of Belgium. They have some outdoor seating and sell some bottled beers at their location but no where else, so if you enjoy it buy it while there! Met one of the Fathers and everything supports the monastery, just a neat place to go if in the area. read more

Had a really good beer experience. They had a Belgian Dark Strong Ale, Farmhouse Ale, Munich Helles, Belgian Pale Ale, Belgian Tripel, Cascadian Dark IPA and a loganberry cider from Bauman Farms. All the beers were good with the Helles and Belgian Dark being the standouts. They do have some appetizers to order too. We got the nachos, meat and cheese tray, and butternut squash soup. The nachos are just simple concession stand nachos with a few more goodies. The Meat and cheese tray is simple cured meats and a few types of cheese with fruit and pickels. The soup was pretty good. But you don't go there for the food, you go there for the experience of beer brewed by Benedictine monks from the Abbey in Mt. Angel, which was founded in the 1880s. The Monks follow in a 1,500 year old tradition of craft brewing. The Benedictine Brewery is one of only three monastic breweries in the United States. During our visit, one of the monks, Brother Justin, was making his rounds socializing with the customers as well as bringing beer and food out to the tables. The monks by no means preach at you, they just say hi and socialize with you for a bit and then move on to the next group. I found it really nice, but I'm a social person and have zero problem having a conversation with a total stranger. They have a nice patio with picnic style tables that over look some hop fields, can't wait to go back in the spring and summer. read more

Really enjoyed this place, it's small and simple but everyone is very friendly and the beers are excellent. I tried a dark beer that was very stout like, and a farm house ale, my wife had a cider that was perfect and a locally brewed root beer. It was all excellent! Shared the pretzel bites and fondue, that was good, too. Prices are more than reasonable (with most everything on tap at $5). Board games available for checkout - we brought our own and spent an enjoyable, rainy afternoon with the kids playing Exploding Kittens. Table next to us had brought a cake and were munching away on it will playing some sort of card game. Overall, it was a great experience with well-crafted beers and friendly staff.
