I'll preface my review with this: I'm a NERDY NERD, especially when it comes to breweries! So, to my total joy, stumbling across this brewery on our Oregon trip was a TREAT! We went first to the abbey, just to walk (gorgeous view), where we were informed of the attached brewery. As a beer girly, a Jesus freak, and a traveler who's been to other monk-run breweries around the world, I knew that we had to check this place out! The beer was good. It's not the best you'll ever have, but definitely pretty good! The service was great two - the bartenders were working hard to serve people and close up shop once it hit the time. They have to-go cold and non-cold options, as well as other merch available for sale. The space is gorgeous, and I love that it utilized community-raising initiatives to build out the frame. Definitely take time to read the posters, the documents on the site, and watch the video about the community raising!

What's not to love about this place? There's an great variety of brew options and sizes including tastings and wine for those that dont drink beer. They also have good and simple bar bites to pair with the drinks and beautiful views. Don't forget to get some merchandise, the shirts are super soft!

Benedictine Brewery, Mount Angel, OR - August 23, 2025 God bless the monks! The beer here is heavily! The service was fantastic! Barley and Hops were happy to let me sample a few of the beers before I landed on the Whiskey Barrel Aged Haustus - a truly delightful 6.8 ABV beer leaning in the direction of a German Dopple Bock. Nice indoor air conditioned seating and a fair amount of covered patio outdoor seating looking out over the Hopp fields.

Now here's a brewery that I've had bookmarked for quite some time now. It's a place that was highly recommended to us by a priest-friend lol. And for the love of God, he couldn't have made a better recommendation. Here's a bit about this lil' brewery called Benedictine: = Parking & Atmosphere = When most folks see the sign and enter the parking lot, they end up parking in the lower lot, and walking up to the place. Not knowing they've got also got parking along the side, next to the brew house. Regarding the inside, there are a few table to kick it at. But they've also got a three big patios, so plenty of space for large groups visiting. The atmosphere is definitely chill, as folks and dogs were here enjoying the brews! = Brews & Bites = In general, their beers cost about $6-8 per pint. Average, and not bad imo. Since we had never been here, we did a Tasting Flight ($10 or $12) consisting of 4oz pours. We tried the following: ~ Haustus - a good starter of a pale ale. ~ Hairshirt - a Belgian IPA which was not my favorite unfortunately. Likely the bitterness. ~ St. Gabriel Dubbel - my taste buds were really feelin' this one! ~ Black Habit - a dark ale that was probably our favorite of them all! ~ Pinot Barrel Aged Dark Night - you definitely taste and smell the pinot in this brew. Might be heavy for some. ~ As for food to graze on, we tried their Pretzel Bites with fondue ($13). These little pretzels came out hot, fresh, and buttery good. We had mustard, but also opted for the cheesy fondue. Gotta dip them in beer cheese right! = Overall = Thank you Father Sean for granting us your blessing to visit this place. It was easy to find. The staff was cordial, helpful, and awesome. The place was spiritually humbling lol, and the brews were simply fantastic!

I'm not a beer drinker but I really like going here just because it's a charming location, especially on a nice summer day when one can sit outside and enjoy the open air. The small bites are yummy (my fave is the pretzel bites with fondue) and if you're not a beer-drinker either, cider, wine and sodas like real ginger ale are offered as well. It's the perfect place to meet your friends and relax with a chat or a game of cards.

Wow! Just wow! This has got to be one of the most fun and unique beer-centric experiences I have ever had. Many breweries like to recount the tales of monks back in 'Ye Olden Days' producing libations in their monasteries. But that tradition is alive and well here, with Benedictine Brewery on the grounds of the Mount Angel Abbey, where the brothers are brewing up beer, tending bar, and enjoying some pints right along with the other visitors. It is a bit surreal, but also amazing, to sit down and talk with them about the work they do, and getting some good recommendations about what drinks to choose. Speaking of which... The beers here are really fantastic, and you for sure need to go for a flight if this is your first time here. As you may expect, the monks have several old-world-style brews on offer; with Dubble (St. Gabriel), Tripel (St. Raphael), and Farmhouse Ales (St. Benedict) being prominent on the tap list, and all being outstanding. But, lest you forget you're still in Oregon, there are plenty of other craft styles to choose from. The St. Michael Helles is delightful, and the perfect thing to drink on a warm, sunny afternoon. The Hairshirt IPA is great, as is the Black Habit Dark Ale. But I was blown away by the Tyrant, a Cascadian Dark Ale which I think has a perfect mix of hops and malts. Most of their beers are available for purchase in bottles, and they also have a selection of local wines and ciders, too. The brewery is a very easy afternoon trip from the Portland area, driving through gorgeous farm country, and set amongst the sprawling, picturesque hop fields surrounding the abbey. The taproom is smaller in size, but has ample outdoor seating, and a wide grassy lawn, which you for sure should take advantage of if the weather is nice. If you need something to snack on, they have a few food options like meat and cheese boards, chips, and pretzels. And there was a food truck parked outside on the day we visited. Prices for everything are very reasonable, pretty much on par with any other craft brewery. So all in all, I think this counts as the highlight of my recent Portland trip. If you are a brew hunter, this place should absolutely be on your radar. Will for sure try to come back when next I'm up in the PNW. If tasting-is-believing, then that is extra true here. Cheers, all!

The Black Habit dark ale lives up to its name. Rich, nuanced, delicious. Dark Night stout is also something to write home about. The place is comfy, but low frills, as it's run by monks. No music, closes at 8pm. Come to get a drink and say a prayer. Kids present.

Have to stop here whenever we are in Mount Angel. Fun to see how much they have grow since our last visit.

But it feels much more satisfying, rewarding and accomplishing as it obviously would by trying a beer from a brewery that I have been wanting to try... which leads us to one of my latest brewery experiences which is Silver Falls Brewery. Steve and I had one beer from this brewery and we liked it pretty well. We got the Oregon Sunshine Hazy IPA which was a better IPA drinking session than on previous occasions. In short it was a nice, refreshing one that hit the spot nicely. The elements in the flavors to look for are citrus, a juicy quality and a hoppiness presence. This IPA despite being a hazy also was bright in flavor as well as hue. A very refreshing IPA and I am so very glad I got to try a beer from Silver Falls Brewery!

For example, there aren't many places in Silverton where diners can order étouffée, gumbo or jambalaya. Well, look no further as one of SFB's "bowl" dishes rotates between these three Cajun favorites. In addition, the menu also offers a number of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for guests looking for something to suit their dietary needs. What I love most about Silver Falls Brewery is the many seating options. The restuarant has balcony seating, as well as an outdoor courtyard with a fair number of tables. In addition, the interior dining room has several large family-style tables that can accomodate large groups. This establishment does a fair amount of business during the spring and summer months when tourist activity is heavy, yet they somehow manage to swiftly seat, serve, and care for guests without compromising on service. The drinks are great, service comes with a smile, and I'm here for supporting local businesses that always shine brightly.

But when I heard Matt Spenner was going to be the brew master, excitement crept in. Because if anyone should be able to make good beer, it would be a Spenner. (This is generations of research manifesting itself here, folks). I was not disappointed. To start with, they have some funky names: Citra Lee Ale (named after Matt's wife Crystal, who's a brew mistress (is that even a term?) with Matt), Eukanot Do That on Television IPA (pretty awesome name considering the stuff on TV nowadays), and my favorite to drink, the Schmokin Porter. Their selection is limited, but they have guest beers (and wines), and they'll be coming up with new stuff so stay tuned. The place is open and airy and comfortable. No TVs or one arm bandits here, so you're gonna have to socialize, which is a good thing in my book. Add a dose of country music in the background, and voila, you're soaking in a cool vibe and sucking down some yummy suds. If you want grub, there's a food truck around when you need it. Plus, with the bay doors open, it's like you're chillin' in your bud's new backyard brewery, which is uber cool.
