I've been coming here for about a year and a half for an eyebrow wax, usually every 4-6 weeks. As much as I want to rate this place higher than a 2 (it's a cute store, staff is friendly, products are good), I can't. The problem is that the service is so hit or miss that I legitimately don't know if I'll be leaving happy or annoyed. I've had some awesome staff members; one even took extra time to show me the best way to use some of the Benefit products when I told her I was going out afterwards. Minus a few people, the staff seems to turn over on a dime, so if you DO get someone who does a good job, they're probably not going to be there next time. I've left with burns from the wax, many stray hairs, and just overall messy looking eyebrows. To charge $30 for sloppy work is really ridiculous - I go here as one of very few treats to myself, and it's frustrating to waste my money. I went last month and had the best brow wax of my life. The staff member listened to me when I requested my eyebrows be made a bit thinner (which tbh is a first. Everyone else just insists on doing what they want, not what I ask for), and I left extremely happy. That staff member wasn't on the schedule when I tried to make an appointment again, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Today I went and the service was again subpar. My brows were burning before I even left, and the person didn't listen to my request. read more

It was disappointing to learn that Benefit stopped doing the Birthday Brow Wax--they used to offer a free brow wax during the week of your birthday--but I assume that was a corporate-wide decision, not any individual brow bars' fault. Anyway, after I had made the appointment and realized that they were not doing the birthday special anymore, I decided to still keep my appointment for the brow wax and another waxing service. (They do various facial waxing services and I know they also offer various body waxing options too, although I haven't gone there for that.) Yuliya was great. I have pretty thin brows that don't need much but for some reason I'm a little squeamish when it comes to doing the maintenance on my own. She cleaned them up nicely and I was going to do my own brow makeup afterwards but she offered to put it on me if I wanted so I said sure. She did a really nice job and gave me some great tips for how to apply the makeup to get an arch. We also talked skincare and cosmetics a little bit. She was incredibly gracious, friendly, and helpful. I'll definitely come back again when I need more maintenance and maybe check out the tinting services as well! read more

IMPRESSED!! I was looking for a brow place after going to my girl in MD for the past three years so I literally had so much anxiety about trying a new place. I read the reviews online and I made an appointment and I am SO happy I did. Khaila has a new forever client in me! I got a Brow Tint and Wax and it was my first time getting a tint and I am so happy I tried it and actually love it. These people -- especially Catherine who did my lamination today -- REALLY know what they're doing! I went in for a brow lamination and tiny and ended up also getting a lip wax, after care brow setter, and an amazing concealer. I asked for quite a few add on-site and recommendations for product while I was there for my appointment and they went above and beyond and kindly helped me with every question and catered recommendations. I will absolutely be back and definitely recommend to anyone in need of brow service! I visited this location in December because I needed help with my overplucked raggedy brows. My brow stylist who advised me to grow them in for 6 weeks and then come back for a proper waxing and shaping. I did. My brows are fabulous now. I also got a lesson in how to properly use and eye pencil to fill them in (like an artist with light strokes, not like a toddler with a crayon lol). This is my new spot for brows. I had an appointment with kellie and she is a brow queen. I think everyone that works there is pretty experienced and they are very kind! I've only been to a brow bar once and had a bad experience. Then I came here and it was like a full 360. I usually go to those threading people like most woman in NYC but this place is LEGIT. The level of sterility and cleanliness is untouchable. They filled in my brows after which really gave it that BAM! They left a few hairs in so my brows can grow out..Laura is amazing at filling in brows and she put this insanely good moisturizing thing on my face that I ended up purchasing because it was that good. I highly recommend coming here. They do a. Full consultation to determine what your looking for offer advise and get you the perfect shape! They really want to give you what you want! I got my eyelashes tinted here for the first time and it was an extremely uncomfortable and sloppy process with dye getting inside my eyes and then having saline solution being squirted at my face for 10 minutes. My eyes have been irritated and in pain for 2 weeks and I'll be going to the doctor to see if it can be resolved. I have been before for a brow tint and was happy with it but I'll never get my lashes tinted here again. read more

I really don't understand the list of great reviews. This place is good if you don't have defined eyebrows or need well defined eyebrows with tint and stuff. But if you're like me who has thick eyebrows and doesn't require any plucking or drawing lines and cost less than a dollar to do, then skip this place. There's not a lot eyebrow threading places since a lot people prefer waxing here therefore finding a good eyebrow threading requires a lot of trails. Sadly the place I used to go to closed permanently and since I dont go to work, I couldn't go to the one near work. Wanted to try this place and see what the $28 was about. Everyone is nice here and friendly, place does get crowded. They are clean which is good if you've become a germaphobe since covid. My eyebrows, first of all they draw lines to get your shape, second it's 10% threading, 60% plucking and 30% trimming with scissors. The end result after 30 minutes UNEVEN EYEBROWS! I even told the woman who did my eyebrows that its uneven but she refused to change it saying its correct. And thats $35(threading cost+tax+tip) down the drain. Its definitely not worth it. Also they do the same shape for everyone rather than shape it based on your face structure. Back home, the people who do my eyebrows do it so perfectly and trim only the front corner with scissors. And my eyebrows last for 4 weeks and cost less than $10. When I told my friends that I paid $35 for eyebrow threading everyone were shocked. My eyebrows were uneven and it was so unnatural and horrible. Thankfully I found Regina's right across this place and eyebrows is only $10 and she does an amazing job that my eyebrows look perfect and last 4 weeks and I paid $35 for eyebrows and a pedicure at Regina's! In short, if youre looking for eyebrow threading or can do your eyebrows yourself, skip this place. For waxing, tint and drawing defined brows this place is perfect and you should definitely go here. read more

These ladies are the most fabulous! They were able to squeeze me in while I was running late from an express train that was slower than molasses in the pit of winter. Gabi was quick and thorough. She took great care to shape them without taking too much off which is always a problem anywhere I go. She cleaned them up, trimmed them up, and made me feel great. My appointment took no longer than 10 minutes to complete. If you're in downtown Brooklyn and feeling a little bushy or unkempt, you should visit Benefit for a quick pampering. Appointments are preferred because they do get busy, but if your lucky someone might be able to squeeze you in. Next time I'm on town I'll visit these fabulous ladies again for great conversation and pampering. read more

What a great experience! After years of getting my brows done at nail salons I will now only use Benefit. I have been to Benefit in another area, and took my fifteen year old daughter to this location. The employees were super friendly and my daughter's eyebrows have never looked better. They actually take the time to measure each eyebrow and they use some technique to let the eyebrow grow in where it needs to grow in. They even gave me a nice sized free sample of their mascara Bang, which I have to say is excellent. Benefit is definitely more money but it's a cut above the rest. read more

Paige was super professional and friendly during my spray tan experience at Benefit. Although I've received a spray tan elsewhere before, I would have felt very comfortable as a novice in her hands. Paige was patient and walked me through everything, she also consulted with me on the shade I was looking to achieve - all of this despite the location being very busy (btw, I'd highly suggest having an appointment scheduled. Don't just walk in). A week later, my body is still sun-kissed! I deducted a star as there was another employee present who was very unwelcoming (she received me upon arrival) and was just generally agitated (with patrons and fellow employees) the entire duration of my visit. I get that everyone has bad days but if you work in customer service, you can't walk around with a chip on your shoulder and exude attitude. I was in Mac cosmetics on Smith st trying to find an eyebrow pencil/brush and the rep did not have the shade I needed so she recommended me to visit your store (bk - Court st) I didn't have an appt and I was helped by Kayla... she was extremely helpful and patient with me. I explained that I needed to soften the color of my dark and thin eyebrows and to compliment my new hair color, she showed me how to properly apply the pencil all the while letting me view it in a handheld mirror each step of the way. She helped me realize that I can draw on the actual skin without it appearing bulky or unnatural. Although I went there without an appointment and it was close to closing (i got there at around 6:40 -they close at 7pm) Kayla was super helpful, no one made me feel rushed or cognizant of the time. The first time I went I had a great experience and my brows looked wonderful. I booked another appointment because I was so pleased with my first, but that one did not go well at all. That time the woman who waxed me took out a bunch of random chunks. I think she was TRYING to give me an arch, but it didn't work out that way. I have kind of goofy brows - they're a bit wavy and don't lay flat - but nothing I wouldn't expect a specialist to handle. The women who work there are all super nice and it's a pleasant atmosphere. Yes, Cobble Hill has changed considerably over the last 15 years. Change can be a GOOD thing. There are a few options for brows in the area but all of them are inconsistent -- threading across from Trader Joe's left me with pencil-thin brows that took ages to grow back in (I reviewed them), nail salon waxings are a recipe for breakouts and double dipping, Shen Beauty's brow specialist seems to be booked through 2020 -- and along comes Benefit. A longtime fan of their cosmetics (I realized today I have been using Benefit since 2003), which you can have applied to you to try, the San Francisco-based brand has been around since the late 1970s and is likely known for its kitschy packaging and fragrant product. I used to have to go to Bendel's to get it, now it's available on Court Street in its own shop! In addition to product sampling and purchasing Benefit offers expert brow shaping and three options: tweezing, waxing, or threading. I usually opt for threading since I break out from wax and am afraid of the technician making a mess, taking too much, etc but Pam and I discussed my options and she did an excellent job removing all of my unwanted strands. The entire staff is friendly -- and not in a fake way -- and I highly recommend not only their services but also giving some of their cosmetics a try. ALSO GREAT FOR GIFTS. Warm weather must-haves for me are: * "take a picture...it lasts longer..." silky glimmering body balm. great on legs, arms, collarbone. It smells DIVINE. (Old timers like me will remember it as "Bathina, Body So Fine") *I love the Bathina smell so much I added a bottle of the scented body mist to my purchase because I always longed for the body balm scent in a bottle AND NOW IT EXISTS. YAY. You have to smell it. Plus even though Benefit is available at Sephora they don't carry ALL of it nor does Sephora take the care that Benefit's team members do. And nary a hard sell which is ALWAYS a nice thing. *I love Brow Zing to help control those expressive hairy things over our eyes. *The concealers are amazing. PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING IS AMAZING! *Lastly I left with the $24 sampler of Benefit's new skincare line. It doesn't seem to have high quantities of SLS and other ickies (second-to-last or last ingredient, if at all) so I will edit this review once I know how it is. I was given samples of the Instant Comeback Facial Serum and their new Roller Lash which is "super curling" -- JUST SAY NO TO BARBARIC METAL EYEBROW CURLERS! My only advice is to get there early if you want services -- when I passed by again a couple of hours later (on a Monday) all of the chairs were full! All my experiences here have been pretty good. Came here the other day and the person who I chose to do my eyebrows (she's done them before and done well) did not show up. After waiting 10 minutes another staff decided to help me. She seemed really sweet and kind. I liked her a lot! There were a few points I had her fix after completing the brow wax. All seemed well. The next day I realized that my brows were majorly uneven and long hairs sticking out. One brow has a really thin part while the other doesn't. I'm pretty upset because I paid $30 with tip and now I have to get it fixed someplace else. I really loved this place, but now I won't be returning! It's my bad because I should've taken a final look after she continued to work on them after I got up to look at the makeup. I wouldn't come here because it's not consistent. I always feel comfortable getting my lashes done here because Benefit uses vegetable dye that isn't harmful and doesn't contain dangerous chemicals. Yulia (sp?) gave life to my brows and helped me believe in tweezing again! All of the ladies who run this place are amazing, and equal parts friendly and efficient. After a terrible experience with tweezing and threading a few years ago, I have stubbornly stuck to waxing, and only waxing, preferring to live with slightly imperfect brows. Yulia told me to give tweezing a try again, insisting that her tweezing wouldn't hurt at all, and it actually didn't!! She was thorough and quick and shaped my brows without taking off too much. I made my appointment half an hour before coming in, and the whole appointment took around 10 minutes to complete. I also purchased a Gimme Brow, and the manager was really helpful in helping me pick a product and a shade. They were almost out of the free deluxe samples which were a part of a promotion the store was running, but the manager sweetly dig around to help me find a great, nude shade of lipstick. They accept tips via Venmo as well as cash, which is super convenient! I'm definitely going to stop by here when I'm in Brooklyn next and in need of an amazing beauty experience. read more

The woman who answered the phone said "oh actually Yuliya doesn't work here anymore, she moved back to Russia awhile back." Seriously was anyone going to bother to tell me this?!? The answer is no, they weren't. Instead they were just going to wait until I came in. So rude and unprofessional. If you can find someone you trust/like it's fine, but they will be gone in no time. Jackie was great but moved to a location in Manhattan, and I liked Yuliya but apparently moved back to Russia. Turnover is high, your person won't be there for long. read more

Really poor experience. I've gone to plenty of places, the customer surface was horrible. No personal attention from Anika.i got an eyebrow tweeze. Half way through, she's like you really should have gotten it waxed instead. Just rude, no further explanation at to why. I would never go back. I have one word for this place....Awful I had a 4:30 appointment for Sunday and I came few mins early to browse and get settled in. At 4:50 I was given a seat but my Esthetician was running around the store helping retail customers. Another 10 mins later she finally came over and started working on my eyebrows. Every 2-3 mins she would run after a retail customer that walked into the door. My eyebrows came out crooked and not the color I wanted. I will never come back again. Came here yesterday after about 6 months of letting my brows grow out (tweezer incident). Made an appointment day of and had no problem on the website. My appointment time was for 2pm but I was able to do a 1:45 appointment since no one reserved an appointment time before me. When I first arrived it was hectic people all over the place, several ladies needed to remind the store associates of their appointment times. One woman waited an extra 15 minutes for her service while another made an appointment online that never showed up on the schedule. I stood in the store waiting for someone to help check me in for my appointment for about 6 minutes until I was assisted. The staff is not very organized and they do NOT do well under pressure. I got my brows done by sally and she was very kind and knew what she was doing. My brows came out great! I also got a lip wax and after my service was over they filled in my brows for me! I will definitely return, however I might schedule an appointment in the morning when it is slower. read more

I had my eyebrows waxed and tinted yesterday - Anika is seriously a brow wiz. She is the absolute best and the only person I trust to handle my eye brows. She is amazing at making sure she does the perfect color tint to match my hair as I dye it frequently between very light blonde to dirty blonde. I am always SO happy with my results!
