I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place and The A&D Jamaican Restaurant w. Just when I thought Rapid City was a lost cause for authentic food in a sea of fast‑food chains and franchises. This spot is run by a lovely couple, with the wife juggling both the register and the kitchen. I ordered the Chicken Coconut Milk Curry (boneless chicken thigh simmered in a rich, creamy coconut milk curry). The flavor was fantastic -- a smooth curry with just the right touch of coconut. The chicken was incredibly tender, though I do wish they had given a bit more of it. I also tried the Papor (two pieces), a deep‑fried flatbread made from bean flour. I don't usually go for fried foods, but this was delicious and totally worth it. Last thing I ordered was the Mango Rice Pudding, it was delicious. From now on, whenever I travel, I'll definitely be checking to see if there are any Bengali restaurants in the area. This place is pretty highly rated, so we decided to check it out on our road trip from Washington to Maine. My husband is from India and cooks a lot, so I could probably be considered a food snob in this department lol. However, I couldn't help but leave an honest review so the public knows what they're getting. The restaurant is old and small. But this isn't a big deal, they have enough seating. Capacity for this place is 35 per their signage. I don't mind eating at hole in the walls and we travel abroad a lot so I've eaten in many variations of food stops. But this review is for those who are wanting to know how this specific restaurant is- it's at the bare minimum in terms of cleanliness. It's not dirty; it's just old and not well kept. We were greeted by a female and I believe she was 1 of 2 cooks. So it's definitely that home cooked style- which is great! I got butter chicken (im basic) and my husband got paneer tikka masala. The flavors were just ok compared to other places we've had. The curries were lacking a little flavor. I did order 4/5 spice out of 10 so that could be why, but even then- when you order mild at places you still can taste the masalas. They gave us a generous portion of rice. Now the butter naan. Was tiny little squares.. I don't think they make it in house. The bread is giving store bought. Just fyi- don't expect nice crispy & fluffy naan. Overall, the people were super friendly.. they have lots of great options on the menu. But due to the flavors and the naan seeming to be store bought.. watered down fountain drinks.. I'd give it 3 stars! This does not mean they were awful, this is just an honest review. When I give 4 & 5 stars; it's truly an amazing dining experience. read more

This is a very small space, but they have still managed to make it cozy and welcoming. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and were attentive without being bothersome. Chicken Malai-curry was fantastic. So much flavor. Garlic naan type was a bit more fluffy and bread type vs cracker type. It was very niiiccceee. Location is in a small strip mall. I stop here every few months and the food is always really great... Never an issue for parking, and the food comes out relatively quickly. They work with you for different spice ranges. I tend to go for hotter food so that works out pretty well. read more

Just to be clear, this review is not about the food because we never had any. Traveling through RC and looking at Yelp we were interested in trying out this place, there were some great reviews. Right after we walked in we were met by a lady in a burka that made us feel like we were completely bothering her, there was only 2 other people in the room and it seemed like she reluctantly sat us a a table. Several minutes later she dropped off menus and that was it, no drink order or nothing, she just disappeared. We sat patiently for a very long time and then decided to go somewhere else, looked at Yelp and found Kathmandu and had a fantastic experience. Started with layered chicken singara appetizer, and shared 3 main entrees that included goat biryani, mango chicken curry, and lamb tikka masala. Plenty leftover for a second dinner. My husband and I love Indian food and usually don't eat out, but we love ordering takeout and having lazy dinners, sometimes just for fun. For a long time, we stuck with the same two Indian restaurants in town, but my coworker recommended Bengal Kitchen to me, so I thought, "What the heck? Why not venture and try something new?" Let me tell you, when I tasted this food, the way the flavors hit my mouth, I could've cried with joy. I always get Chicken Tikka Masala (it's my favorite) and I really wished I had ordered two servings for myself because I wanted to have it for dinner and lunch the next day. This summer we had the absolute pleasure of making friends with the owners and getting to try their delicious authentic Bengali cuisine. The service is great, as the chef herself recommended dishes for my wife and I to try (everything was amazingly flavorful). She answered my questions about how she got the delicate texture of the bread with great detail. Has a very clean homey ambiance. Their goat biryani is incredible. Such a breath of fresh air from the normal food scene in Rapid City. Lovely family, plenty of parking, excellent food. Get some home cooking in SD. Stumbled into Bengal Kitchen. What a find! I wish I lived closer. Read the whole menu. I ordered quickly and didn't see that they have bok choy and other amazing vegetables and dishes that are hard to find in the Kansas City metro. My mom and I stopped in after doing the tourist thing. We ordered the Piyaju (lentil onion fritters) and each of us got a combo. I ordered the chicken curry with the bread and she ordered the Chana daal with bread. We ate inside and they had us order first then sit and wait, which is fine. So good!
