Beef teriyaki bowl - cucumber kimchi

What an amazing place! This is authentic as it gets. The food was phenomenal, quick service, very friendly owner/chef/staff. It was a one woman show while we were there and she was great!! We will be back.

Authentic Korean food. Large portions and the standard side dishes of assort kimchi. The chicken fried rice was the best I have had since being in Korea. Service was quick and place was filling up quickly during lunch. Not a fancy place but great food

Uncooked tempura

We had ordered seaseme chicken meal with cucumber kimchi and a double order to veggie tempura. The lady that answered the phone was trying to rush us to order and very impatient. Our veggie tempura was under cooked and my seaseme chicken over cooked with mushy rice and hot vegetables salad. I was only able to eat the kimchi. We were highly disappointed and very unsatisfied with the service and food. This restaurant used to be awesome and now it is not worth it and would recommend staying away from it.

We have driven by Kang San numerous times, so we finally decided to try it. The food was amazing, it's a very small restaurant, we were the only one's there so service was very quick. Only issue was we went on a very hot day and there was no air conditioning or if there was it was very minimal so it was uncomfortably hot in there. My husband and son got the beef stir fry with noodles and my daughter got chicken stir fry with noodles. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch box (came with a side salad and rice) this was absolutely amazing! The breading on the chicken was crunchy and had an amazing flavor. My husband said he's getting that when we go back. We also tried fried and steamed potatoes stickers, shrimp tempura, cabbage and cucumber kimchee. The proportions are VERY large especially for the price. We have been craving it and wanting to go back, just going to wait until the temperature cools down a little.

Small and modest, tucked away but very busy during lunch time. A local favorite Im told by airmen across the street at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Try the BiBinBap. The udon has the most comforting soup. Worth it to go and support this local gem. The owner knows a lot of customers by their first name. Love that.

Ichiban and I have a funny history. Let me explain: I was…read moreborn in Rapid City and spent half my childhood there. When I was maybe 5 or 6, I went to Ichiban for the first time with my dad and his friend. My dad used to come here a few times every week when we lived here- he even knew the owner and was well acquainted. But, I was a young American kid, trying sushi, which is a very hit or miss cuisine as it is. I hated it, and I remember trying an ice cream they had there (green tea I think), and it was a terrible experience. My 5 year old self never wanted to come back. Now, being a mature 20 year old (sometimes), I have developed quite a liking/ obsession with sushi. For Easter I was planning to see my family that still lives in Rapid City, so I wanted to go back to Ichiban to try and reverse my bad memories of dining there. This didn't turn out to be quite as glamorous of a turn around as I had hoped. Ichiban is a very casual Thai & sushi place, so you don't have to worry about looking nice or keeping it formal. The menu featured an insanely long list of special rolls, which made it very hard to choose. As much as it pains me to say, I was pretty disappointed in the food. "Da Bomb" roll was pretty decent- that was my favorite roll I tried. But all the other rolls, they were really average and just not high quality. I've had some pretty great sushi and Ichiban just did not hit that mark in any way. Even my dad, who used to come here all the time, agreed that it was a big let down and the quality of the food has plummeted since we lived in town. It's just really unfortunate. The service was decent, our waitress was an adorably smiley lady and she kept up with us well. And even though I now appreciate sushi for all it is, I still don't wish to come back to Ichiban if I have other options. Sigh.
