The WORST Benihana l have ever been to in my life. l love this chain and tend to visit everywhere l go, but for some reason l don't know if it's management here or what, but this Menlo location is TERRIBLE. Found a hair in my sushi, waited 30 mins for drinks and appetizers, only to get the wrong sushi roll!!! l must have given this place 3 chances to date, and EVERY time, their service is HORRIBLE. Total scam! Said drinks were half off, they really charged us full price. Ordered a full Boston roll and never got it. We told our waiter (the third of the night) and he said no problem. Well, I guess this was my last dinner at Benihana. It used to be fun - sometimes Hibachi and the show; sometimes sushi and the quieter room. Fun birthdays, souvenir photo, good food. But not this time. I don't know if the management or policies or staff changed, but we went last month for my birthday and sat at a table for almost 45 minutes with just water and tea until we could even get someone's attention to take our order. Finally we ordered and eventually got [lukewarm] soup and our salads. Then we waited even longer - another 40 min for the sushi entree, then about a half hour after that for the other entrees. All this time anyone we asked kept saying 'it's coming right out'. Meanwhile the other customers came, ate, and left. Was it worth it? The sushi was good, but the hibachi dinners (ordered cooked, since we were at the table area) were overcooked, tough, with soggy vegetables.The entrees were bland while the fried rice was overcome by onions. Not a pleasant mix. The manager apologized and said he couldn't offer anything except 15 off. We said ok, then saw what he meant - he gave us coupons for 15% off our next visit. I love Benihana specially the one in edisson NJ Good customer service food is delicious to me best time is anytime, my family and I leave in south orange but drive to edisson 2 to 3 times a week and don't forget the sushi they have the best kind they also have the best happy hours from 3:30 to 7:30 you can not go wrong with that the list go on and on, $5 to $10 off when you go online and do the servey, $30 gift certificate on your birthday what more can you ask.... I ordered take out through seamless who were advertising a ten dollar discount if you ordered 30.00 or more. So I ordered my favorite Salmon with the avocado puree. This meal might as well be different because the puree was the most important part. They forgot the puree and I called and I spoke to a manager Mani. I live 20 minutes away by the time I go back get the puree it would be 40 minutes which means my 30 dollar meal will be cold. Instead of offering me a refund or to make me another one. He took this opportunity to take MORE money from me and said if I order from them again, that they would offer me an appetizers. WTF? I called again and ask I would like the same meal I ordered and they said that they would loose money. What kind of establishment sells a 30 dollar dish and cant offer costumers what they pay for. Today was my first time here and my impression of the place was very good. The atmosphere and decor is pretty good but most importantly the food. Half my party had sushi and the other half had hibachi so I was able to taste many of the dishes they serve at this restaurant and judge for myself. The vegetable sushi, vegetable and shrimp tempura as well as the tuna teriyaki hibachi style were my favorite. The service was also great. We will definitely return. read more

This review is for take-out only, not dine-in. I ordered the emperor's feast, which is filet mignon and chicken. I asked for no shrimp and no mushrooms. When i picked up my order, i confirmed there was no shrimp and no mushrooms with the hostess. I also opted for chicken fried rice upgrade. All in all, just a little over 50 bucks with tip. First thing in my bag, mushroom soup. Okay, no biggie, just toss that out. Second was the salad with their dressing in a small container, that was fine. Next I opened the steak/chicken/veggie container. Steak and chicken was okay, but the veggies was full of mushroom and no onions - another item for the bin. Then i noticed that not only did they give me the chicken fried rice, but also plain rice, nice, but not necessary. The chicken fried rice was mushy and flavorless. Horrible, it was like oatmeal in the mouth. It was like they made a huge batch in the morning and scooped it out instead of freshly made like they normally do when you dine-in. No salt, no garlic, mush - uneatable. And i could tell it wasn't fresh because the plain white rice they included was the right consistency. More for the bin. And they threw in some ice cream for dessert which was a nice touch. Was this a 50+dollar meal? Hells no, i wouldn't give 10 bucks for this. I know Benihana can be great because i used to dine-in there a lot, but his was absolutely dreadful, never order take-out from them, i know i will never do it again. read more

This place used to be awesome when it first opened, but over time the restaurant slowly integrated from hiring quality chefs to take-out chefs. Eventually the creativity that each chef was to bring to his dinner performance was totally gone as every chef use the same boring routine (I've seen so many crappy onion volcanos it's just sad.) The food portions became smaller, and tasted even worse while the prices skyrocketed. My family and I used to LOVE coming here and didn't mind paying the premium because we knew everything would be impeccable. We'll be looking for another hibachi place at this point... read more

Solid food and solid service. Have never had a problem with the service and food is up there, if not better than a lot of the hibachis I've frequented. I've been 3 or 4 times now and would definitely go back for the filet and shrimp. I'm not even really sure where I should start with this review . Can we say over-priced? Inattentive servers? Poor food quality ? . Came here for a late lunch with my family and literally it was the worst decision ever . Ever . We ordered dumplings and edamame to start. The dumplings were flavorless.. and tasted kind of bland. But being the optimistic that I am , I did not expect that from the sushi but I was seriously mistaken . I ordered a shrimp crunchy roll and it was terrible :( !! The shrimp tasted flavorless and I'm pretty sure nothing on my plate was fresh. It tasted more like a California roll. For some strange reason. Anyways ,We also ordered a spicy tuna roll to the table and a rainbow roll and honestly, just the worst. Super bland and extremely flavorless , I actually started becoming apprehensive about what I ate because I truly question the quality of what was being served. My mother ordered the sushi combo and her soup & salad didn't even come out until SHE asked the waitress to bring it , ( maybe she forgot ? But tbh it wasn't busy at all) mind you that was while they were serving the entrees . Getting the soup and salad before the entrees would be reallyyyy nice . And I honestly don't even want to tell you how long it took to get the waitresses attention to get the bill or even check on the table . Just know it was enough time to think about how I'm neverrrr wasting another moment going into this place ! Was back again last night. The food is good. If you have a loud table the chef will play up to it. Otherwise they do their standard routine. As I said with my checkin last time when there is no cooking being done around you the hibachi room smells like dirty carpet. It was really off putting-honestly I don't know how the wait staff or other workers don't notice it when they come in for their shifts . I don't think I'll return again for that reason. Use to come here a lot as a kid so was pretty excited when my friend wanted to take me there for my bday. The food was pretty good, though they put on a lot of extra charges without telling you that it's not included (like 14$ charges, not .50). The chef was actually super disappointing and boring... Never introduced himself, set the onion volcano and that was it. None of the fancy showmanship which, honestly? That's part of the price with hibachi. It's a show and food restaurant. I feel like I was just at any Japanese American restaurant and the chef just happened to be cooking by us. He wouldn't rly interact with us, even when we tried. It was my friends first time there and at hibachi so he was looking at me like why do you like places like this? Super sad.. We also had to remind the staff after everything about the ice cream included in our meals. They never asked and we're almost confused even though it says 6 course including ice cream right in the menu description. We had a new guy so that may have contributed to some of it... But he was honestly trying and has nothing to do with the lack luster cooking experience. Kind of a flop of a birthday, definitely didn't get my monies worth, sad since I live nearby that I'll probably not go back, goodbye childhood memories. Want hibachi? You must be thinking - how good could a chain really be? Well... let me tell ya...VERY GOOD. I love the service at this particular Benihana - the waiters are fun and friendly and the chefs are awesome. The sushi is top quality but the highlight is the hibachi/teppanyaki. The chefs pay attention to your party, they talk to you, joke around and put on a show - they dont rush from table to table. It's very entertaining and well worth the wait - yes everyone, unfortunately, there is a wait for big groups. Not to mention the fried rice is dangerously good. Get a table with a group of friends - down some cocktails and eat up - it's an awesome time. At the end of the day, you're in Edison...it doesnt get better than this. read more

Lunch says the beef julienne comes with mushrooms, but if you order it as part of the lunch duet, you don't get mushrooms. What a scam. Asked for a side of mushrooms and was charged 6.50. Absolutely ridiculous. A lunch is only 12.25 with the mushrooms! We are frequent customers, but will not be returning. Management sucks and is not willing to help at all. This Benihana has the worst service ever!! We waited 2 hours to get a table. We were a party of 3 & saw many ppl who didn't have reservations come in after us & get tables before us. Once we finally got a table we waited an hour to get the soup & salad. The table next to us got seated about 30 mins after us & they received their food before we even got the soup & salad. There were 2 birthdays at our table & because they were so late servicing us they did not sing to them. The manager was called over & did not apologize for anything.
