I love this place! We went on a Saturday, so the place was packed for dinner, but we were seated fairly quickly compared to other restaurants around the area. I also learned that if we had made reservation, it would help reduce our wait time when the restaurant is crowded. We decided to sit at the hibachi side and we had to sit with others, but that's no big deal because it's just a regular hibachi setup. We were greeted fairly quickly by our server who brought out the drinks, soup, and salad at the beginning. After finishing our salad and soup, it did not take too long for the chefs to come out as well. The show was a nice touch to our meal with the usual heart beating trick and volcano. We also got some sushi as appetizers and they were very fresh and great tasting. I would also like to mention that the portions that they give out are more than enough to satisfy a large grown man. That's a good thing because I get to eat the rest of the food the next day! Prices are around 10-15 for lunch and around 19-30 for dinner. Another good aspect is that they have happy hour (half off on drinks) from Mon-Thurs (4:30-7:30) and some sushi rolls for half off from Sun-Thurs. Overall, it was a positive experience. SIDE NOTE: We also noticed that if you have reservation or not and your entire party are not there, they cannot seat you at the hibachi side. The reason I noticed this is because a customer threw a tantrum about having to wait so long even though she had been there for awhile. The host told her beforehand that they could not seat a party until everyone is in the building and that wait time starts when entire party is there. I've been to a few benihanas but none can compare to this one! As soon as you walk in the hosts greets you with a welcoming smile and sat me within 10 minutes. The server came to the table quick, which I appreciated because in other restaraunts servers sometimes take forever to come to the table. She explained the menu to us page by page and was very friendly and upbeat. We got our appetizers right away and the chef came as soon as our salad and soup plates were being cleared. The chef put on a wonderful show and the server made sure we were okay and refilled our drinks the whole time. At first I thought the prices were kind of high but after seeing how much food I got, I was surprised they weren't higher. The food was delicious! I also appreciated the fact that the managers came over after the chef left to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. They really care there. My wife and I have been going to Benihana in Edison, NJ every Friday night since they opened. To us this is the best hibachi restaurant. When we walk in we are greeted by the host staff in a warm friendly manor by name. The servers, especially Anthony P., are courteous and attend to our every need especially making sure that our drink glasses are never empty. The chefs not only cook well but are very entertaining. Each and everyone of them stop to say hello to us even if they are not cooking at our table. The managers, Mike and Joe, greet us as though we are family and even the owner stops by our table to say hello and to make sure that we are satisfied. The food is always cooked to perfection, is tasty, and the portions really fill us up. I had a reservation set for 7:30 pm I got there at 7:20 pm on valentine's day and still had to wait 45 minutes. They called me in for a table even though I went by myself after 45 minutes. I thought I was going to die. I ordered the benihana delight which is a 6 course meal done by server Felipe. Anyway he put on a good show. my hair almost caught on fire with all the excitement. It comes with bacon and mushroom broth, and fried rice (extra $3.50) and shrimp and chicken. To be honest the chicken was dry and I was highly upset its hard to mess up chicken. I would suggest just getting the steak that was done much better. Rice I felt like I need more than just a tiny bowl of it. In total i spent $61. I just went to try the name brand but to be honest the wait time and the food wasnt all that great for me to return for that price. Go to mount fuji on route 17. Everyone said. No allergies. At end. $5.50 up charge for fried rice. Next, our cook was just that. A cook. Very little show for hibachi. (We could see other tables getting a much better show) Next. Meat wasn't really seasoned. Just cooked. Finally although included on menu. Neither the green tea or noodles where served. When asked. Was told. Supply issue. Funny is the up charge to fry the rice, yet skipped 2 parts of meal. Last question is. Masks, most staff had on, but 50% wore mask on their chin. Not sure what the purpose is. Either cover your mouth and nose. Or don't wear at all. Total for 2 hibachi dinner. No drinks. $115. read more

I was never a fan of sushi. i had it at Benihana's for the first time and i loved it. I've several other places and it has never quite been the same as here. so of course this is the only place i will order sushi/ they have take out as well and 1/2 sushi during happy hour and Monday thru Thursday for dine-in. As for the hibachi dinners, yes they are a bit pricey, but i have never had a bad chief or any reason to complain! even though there aren't a ton of Asians there i would say they have a classical Japanese feel. plus i like the servers don't bug you all the time, yet there is always someone around when i do need assistance. Our party of 7 rated our dining experience a perfect 10! We were celebrating our 12 year old's birthday. The waiter, Matt was personable and attentive to all of our needs. We had the esteemed pleasure to have our food cooked by Hernan, the Executive Chef! Hernan is AMAZING! He served us with a smile and we enjoyed every morsel. The meal ended with Richie cutting our cake and sharing his own culinary/baking skills. The manager, Jesse checked in on us and made us feel welcomed. By far, this was our best experience at Benihana ... and we've been coming every year since the young prince was 8! Servers didn't seem to care what we were having nor the fact it was our first time. My family was not happy after getting their drink order wrong twice! and the food was like any other hibachi restaurant (sad to say), we enjoyed it off course but it didn't stick out like I thought it would. the cooks were very pleasant tho. made us laugh and created the usual heart or volcano rice on the tabletop, always enjoyed a good show. By far the best hibachi restaurant in New Jersey. With the authentic decor and full bar it is a great dinning experience from start to finish. I usually just take my wife out for a quiet romantic evening, but whenever someone in the family has a birthday, we always go there to celebrate. The staff is awesome! Bartenders are skilled and generous. The servers are always smiling and pleasant. The cooks are the ones that steal the show, between flying shrimp and onion volcanoes, they put on a fantastic show. Me & my gf went to Benihana Tuesday night. We chose to sit by the bar & were seated within 5 minutes. I was unaware that hibachi dinner entrees come with a side of shrimp (I am allergic) once they brought the food out I explained my situation with Zachary the manager & he had them remake my food in the back. It was brought out in less than 5 minutes & it was delicious. Zachary continued to check up on us for the rest of our stay & made sure we had everything we needed. Visited this Benihana with my husband & two children. We usually go to the one in Short Hills, but we decided to give this one a try. Overall I was very satisfied with the service they provided. i cant believe anybody would rate this place bad. the food is awesome. the drinks are off the hook. try the punch bowl. the only issue i have is they change the menu to make more money. i at least spend $100 there when i go for dinner with my family, including drinks and i don't mind. but now your dinner does not come with veg fried rice or noodles, you have to pay extra for it. it use to come with the meals. but with all that said i still rate a 4 minus 1 because of the menu change read more

I have been to this to this resturant multiple times a month . Sammy has always been a great sever and I noticed that they have a new busser there. I've seen him before but haven't in a while. For most of the busters he is one of the ones who don't look miserable and actually asked us if everything was good while cleaning up the tables! I definitely will be back and hope to see them both. I Planned a large birthday party of 50 people here one night. The manager Gloria was very helpful. he took our budget into consideration and even made a custom menu for us. I was a little scared to come here from the reviews so we did the hibachi. I didn't want any sushi or fish based on their less than fresh reviews. We had edamame. It was as expected. And you know you can't get that wrong. Go with the steak hibachi rice and noodles. Was decent. Pretty expensive, fun - my problem stems with the fact that I got the teppan filet, and my steak was pretty much blue/raw. I asked for medium. It was expensive. Everyone ate, except me really.
