We did the 5 course Hibachi Dinner where the chef comes and makes the food in front of you at the table which is a cool, unique and fun dining experience. We had the Hibachi Salmon and the Ocean Treasure - both were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Ocean Treasure if you enjoy seafood - it comes with calamari, shrimp and scallops. We have been to this Benihana every August to celebrate my FIL's b-day when we are in town, and this year the food and experience fell short of our usual expectations which was disappointing. The service was subpar and that really is what sets the vibe for the whole evening. We still had fun as a family, but we missed the spark of joy that Benihana usually delivers. What a great place for a group for hibachi! You get to watch the cook make your hibachi entree! I tried the Yakisoba Trio Course meal which came with a salad, soup, rice, and entree. It came with three types of protein: Beef, Shrimp, and chicken. You have the option to pick protein on fried rice too. For allergy option, they offer a separate gluten free, vegan/vegetarian, keto options which is nice. You just have to make sure your food is getting served/made gluten free including the sauces. The presentation of the food was presented in varying degrees. For hibachi your plate was prepared as the food was cooked, and not prepared as a complete plate. For sushi, I would imagine they would come as fully prepared. The cook that made our food had minimal cooking/entertainment compared to the other cooks around, he had the metal spatulas spinning skills, and onion volcano. I would have enjoyed seeing the egg toss into hat and a little more flair. Either way the food tasted great! Since Benihana has been around for a long time, I can see some Of their plate cutlery could use a little updating . Some places didn't seem as shiny so you can see water trace that could question its cleanliness. For the price range of their menu items I would expect a little more on the cleanliness, service, and presentation of dishes. Meals are pricier than comparable places in the area, but you get a unique and fun dining experience; a culinary show, of sorts, while dining in a group setting. It's a fun place for a celebration or special occasion. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated on Christmas Eve, despite having a reservation. However, we found a table in the bar area and started with some drinks. Once seated, we were asked for our orders pretty quickly. The wagyu beef was a highlight at our table. The texture, taste and tenderness were unforgettable. I ordered the filet and shrimp meal. (In my mind, you can never get enough shrimp)! Our cook was entertaining and skilled and our server, though seemingly busy and frazzled at times, worked quickly to get us our food. The chicken fried rice is always good and worth a little extra wait to get a fresh bowl in hand. The combination of soy sauce, egg and butter make for a rich taste. It's a show every time:) It's my niece's favorite restaurant ever since she was little. This location is the closest for her (about 1-1.5 hrs away). And she still gets excited. It also has memories of past family gatherings throughout the years. Clean and modern. Food is good and consistent. Entertaining? Well, as much as I think it's funny that I've seen the same tricks for decades, I do love watching my niece's reaction and that elevates my score to 5 stars. I paid for the shrimp hibachi, and got shrimp, a few slices of zucchini and onions, and some sauces. The meal also included rice and a mushroom soup. The soup was alright. None of it was worth the almost $50 price tag though. I'm definitely not one to be stingy with my money when it comes to food, but this is just not it. You're paying for an experience that they hope will distract from the flavorless hibachi. I will raise my score a little because my friend ordered a Vegas roll off of their sushi menu instead of getting hibachi with us, and it was delicious. However, they made her look up the sushi menu on the internet which had no prices. The service was good and the restaurant was clean, perhaps I would give it another shot only for the sushi bar, but there are plenty of great sushi bars in the area, so this would not likely be my first choice. read more

Melted in the mouth. I think a couple more seconds cooking would be good for medium rare. Seasoning was perfect. Avocado salmon was okay, I still have yet to find a restaurant that can cook salmon like a west-coaster... a little dry... needs more seasoning and a little less time on the grill. Have dinned here twice since it opened. The wife and I are foodies (we eat out at least twice weekly).and have dinned at many of the Chicago area restaurants as well as internationally through are travels. Blufish is a beautiful place with a modern and bright look. The food is fantastic, however we do have a couple comments. Let's start with the parking, the lot is way too small for this site, also on our second visit last Wednesday, the snow was not well cleaned, and we ended up parking several buildings away and walking in the snow for several minutes to go in and dine (possibly getting a valet parking service may help) . The second item is the slowness in getting served. We did not get our first drink till at least twenty minutes after we got there. Our waiter, although nice kept looking at his POS device the whole time we were ordering, our food took it's time getting there, and my wife's second drink we had to be cancel because it had not come by the time we finished our dinner. I must say that the cleaning staff was great in picking up the dishes and getting us water and such. Hopefully the management can do a better job training the waitstaff and expediting the food process. read more

We have been going to various Benihanas for decades, including at this location. They are always consistent in their service, food quality, cleanliness, and value and our most recent experience was no different. We were a group of 8, four couples, coming from the Chicago lakefront, Orland Park, Saint Charles, and Rockford areas - meeting in and around Schaumburg is always a convenient area to congregate and this Benihanas location has great access from I-53/290. Our group gathered in the bar an hour before dinner for cocktails and received great service from our bartender Mathew who was prompt and professional in accommodating our drink requests. Our server Angel was also on point; friendly, professional and always there when you needed him. He also went above and beyond accommodating our request for separate checks for each couple which was not as easy as it sounds since we were sitting guys on one side and ladies on the other. Thank you again Angel, we really appreciate you sorting that out for us. We will of course continue to frequent Benihana's in the future, especially since some of their competitors are getting lazy when it comes to the above mentioned criteria - I'm looking at you JMK Nippon - Rockford. read more

We made a reservation for last night at 7:30pm for 2 people. When we arrived on time for our reservation and checked in with the rude hostess we were told it would be at least a 40 minute wait. What's the point of making reservations? We sat at the bar and ordered a couple of drinks that were served in a sticky dirty glass. We decided to leave at this point because we were already so turned off. We asked the hostess on our way out if it's always like this with the waiting even with a reservation. First time my girl friend went here at Benihana and the first time I've been there in over 15 years. This place is no comparison to Kyoto. Not even close. The fried rice was very plain tasting, the soup wasn't as good, the ginger dressing in the salad wasn't nearly as good and was a bit watery, and the filet was a bit dry and not really tender. The chef never asked us how we wanted it done either. I had the filet and lobster and my GF had lobster and seafood. My GF got my meal and I got hers but we share everything anyway so that's no big deal. The waitress screwed up some other orders and the chef was visibly upset with her since his cart was not correct and the whole table knew it which was very awkward. Some people say the show is better there from the chef compared to other places and it was nothing special. Yue Son in Wood Dale was better than this for food and show, but still not as good as Kyoto. Some Chefs at Kyoto are better than others (we love Andy!) but the food is always great no matter what Chef you get. Portion wise it was okay I guess and they do have a very large menu that has more variety than your typical Japanese Steakhouse. I did like they had a noodle option instead of rice but we didn't get that. We didn't have reservations so we left and came back about an hour and a half later and still waited quite a long time which is fine but it was clear others that did have reservations had been waiting over an hour since we saw some of them before we left. Benihana is an American institution, a solid spot for "teppanyaki" cooking (not "hibachi"). And this location upholds the quality of the franchise. They cover all the bases well: a friendly staff, tasty food, and satisfactory service. We came in for lunch and were seated right away. We had our table all to ourselves, which was nice. After quickly taking our drink and food orders the chef arrived after a small wait. He put on the usual show and cooked up some TASTY food. Honestly, I should come here more often because any Benihana always does a great job with the food. Throughout the meal the waiter did a satisfactory job of checking in on the table and making sure we didn't need anything. He was also great in recommending menu choices and accommodated the little ones very nicely! All said, we had an enjoyable lunch and it has brought Benihana back onto my radar. The best thing about coming to Benihana every time is the performance of the hibachi. The food is never anything special, but having your food cooked in front of you is a fun, unique experience. I was a bit disappointed with our cook, however, as he messed up a few times and he looked like he really didn't wanna be there. Not exactly a welcoming feel. I got one drink and it was really expensive and I swear there was no alcohol in it. Very disappointing. The food itself wasn't anything special except for the mountain of butter they use on literally everything. I don't remember them using that much the previous times I've been. I was honestly grossed out by how much butter they used. I got the Splash 'N Meadow. The one thing I don't understand is why they ask how each person wants their steak cooked if they are going to cook them all exactly the same anyways (medium well when I asked for medium rare). They shouldn't bother asking if they're going to do that. I did like the soup that you get to start. After we were all done eating, we weren't offered any tea or dessert as we are supposed to get according to the menu. I didn't realize it until later, so I couldn't say anything at the time. Due to the high price and low quality of the food and drinks, this is definitely a restaurant to come only once in a blue moon (for me it's about every 3-4 years or so). Cheesy unique experience. I don't like most of what comes with the meals so I just got pot stickers and chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice was good but doesn't have much chicken in it, so I was disappointed. I should have asked to order extra in mine since this was my main meal. Meals come with white rice but if you upgrade to chicken fried rice it's the same price as just ordering it. To me it should just be an upgrade charge because it's not like you get both options. While the chef was cooking he broke an egg and still used it! Then I had egg shell in my meal. I don't get why he still used the egg. The potstickers come out from the kitchen. They were enjoyable. When we arrived they did not honor our reservation and made us wait for around 25 minutes, after that instead of being seated at a table for 2 we were seated at a table which was empty at the time but after around 15 minutes 5 completely random strangers were also seated at our table, ( 2 of which were a drunk wife and husband, the husband was exceptionally rude, while sitting down to eat at the table I was hit across my back by the man's hand quite hard (so I was physically assaulted), I asked the server to give us a new table but they never gave us a new table. The only thing good about the food was the chefs performance, other than that the food was dry and pretty tasteless, and in my opinion way too expensive. Our chef, Diego, was terrible. He was not only rude but refused to fry our shrimp tails upon request even though the server said they do that upon request- Diego still refused. My husband and I also specified no mushrooms and were served mushrooms in our steak. We reiterated no mushrooms and Diego made us wait until he finished cooking everyone else's meal then took our food and just picked the mushrooms out right in front of us and gave the same steak back. My husband has an intolerance to mushrooms and got sick from this. He put on no show despite the hibachi style of the restaurant. IE vegetarian food cannot mix with any other foods containing meat. We had egg allergies, we had dairy allergies, and shrimp allergies.
